Morning all, poster from Ireland here, TLDR version: I am utterly clueless when it comes to AV hook-ups for the original Odyssey (and also when it comes power networking more generally). Would really appreciate if someone could review my Youtube/Wikipedia research, so I don't destroy a vintage console. The Console: I have an original Magnavox Odyssey (1972) that I picked up from another guy living in Ireland. I don't know much about Magnavox's distribution history (was the idea of PAL consoles even a thing back in 1972? ) but I'm assuming it's a standard NTSC unit that was imported, as there's a sticker on the bottom saying 120V/60Hz. The guy I bought it from just had it out on display, so there's no game power cord or antenna game switch with it, and I'm just trying to figure out what my best options are to power it on (without wearing out the battery compartment), and connecting it to a CRT. Power (Problem): In Ireland, we run the UK-style "Type G" electrical sockets, that output a standard supply of 230 volts AC (frequency 50Hz). I do have a step-down transformer but would prefer not to use it if possible, as it heats up very quickly. So I guess what I'm looking for is a) a modern power supply that can accept an input range of 100-240V, 50/60 HZ), b) that's well suited to the MA1 console, and c) that has those Irish/UK style pins. Like I said, I don't have one of the original power supplies that Magnavox manufactured for the Odyssey (I have been waiting for a few months for one to pop up on eBay with no joy...), but in an earlier thread linked below, @Clong80 notes that the specs on the original power supply are: INPUT 117 VAC 50/60HZ OUTPUT 9 volts 400ma 3.5mm mono headphone jack Tip positive for polarity Power (Solution?) So after a bit of online browsing, I found this website that sells modern power supply adapters for the Atari 2600. The specs on this unit are: 9V DC 1A Tip: 3.5mm jack (Centre tip positive) https://www.retrosales.com.au/collections/atari-power/products/accessory-power-supply-atari-2600-power-supply-adaptor-pack-9v So that will supply more current than the console needs; I know these numbers don't need to match exactly, but is the difference (9V, 1A vs 9V, 400ma) reasonable enough? I'd also need a standard travel adapter to convert the Australian plug to UK pin-style. Found this unit on Amazon ("This Adapter does not convert Voltage. Please make sure your device supports 220-240 Voltage.") Per Jakob Schuler on YouTube, it looks like the Magnavox Odyssey needs a 2.5mm tip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzXlJSa_VP4&t=6m22s), so I found this 3.5mm-to-2.5mm adapter on Amazon AV Hookup: I don't have one of the original antenna game switches with the hanging hooks, but my CRT doesn't accept NTSC RF anyway, so I don't think that would be the best option for me. However, it will accept NTSC through the composite ports. And I have an NTSC RF-to-composite conversion box, which works great either on its own or with composite switches. I've had no luck finding an original MA1 video cable like this one https://atariage.com/forums/uploads/monthly_06_2016/post-32949-0-81329000-1466475134.jpg On the TV end, the little RF adapters are obviously no problem to get from Amazon, but I understand that the other end which connects to the console is proprietary? (I'm not 100% sure about this). End of an entirely-too-long post Would be super grateful if anyone could advise me on 1) whether I've made any huge screw-ups in my choice of power accessories, and 2) how to find a video cable that will connect to the console Many thanks if you stuck through to the end of this post

Hi all I have recently finished my Atari Flashback Raspberry Pi conversion. I have based it on the look of the Atari 2600 Vader edition. This is an Atari Flashback 6 with a Raspberry Pi 3b+ inside with Retropie. I removed the Flashback buttons and replaced them with arcade style buttons. I used black snakeskin style vinyl wrap to cover the brown wood effect front panel. I removed the old Joystick ports and added USB ports. I cut a hole in the back to add an HDMI port. Another hole was cut to add a Micro SD card reader so I can easily remove the SD card without opening up the whole case. I wired the Pi board to the power button and a white power LED. Hot glue, super glue and lots of filing was used for the project. The Pi board is currently sitting loose in the case as not a lot of room to bolt it in, but it is very secure as it is. I have converted an Atari Flashback 7800 joystick to work via USB by using a convertor. Also connected, an 8Bitdo wireless controller. Just for effect......I messed around with a couple of "free" retro wallpaper backgrounds and stuck my Flashback in the middle, which came out well.

Hi, I am starting a new Virtual Pet homebrew, and would like to get everyone's input. So far I have gotten the pet sprite to appear on screen. Not sure what to work on next so feel free to let me know. I was going to animate the sprite bouncing left and right like the Tamagatchi pets. Binaries Updates 11-15-2021: Added bouncing effect to the pet similar to Tamagotch pets. Uploaded first binrary

I've got the last copies from the CORGs expo up on Etsy. Balloon Girl / Sharkstorm is the first Xonox Double Ender style homebrew release. Meaning, two original homebrew releases (and not ROM hacks or reproductions.) https://www.etsy.com/shop/Gemintronic Balloon Girl is a one button side scrolling action game. Basically, the FIRE button lifts you forward and up. Collect joysticks and pink dots while avoiding baddies. Sharkstorm is a top down endless boss rush. Each wave has a unique boss that grows in mass, firepower, movement and such.

As the title suggests, I'm looking to sell the 8 original Panda boxes, acquired in December of 1984, IF IF IF I can get enough for them. Listing them for sale HERE will depend on response to this thread (if any), otherwise eBay it is. All are in nice shape except for Space Canyon which I HAD to modify. It can be restored to its original condition, I suppose. (Was anyone else miffed that Panda couldn't bother to put the title on the front of the box?). I had cut the title off the bottom flap and glued it to the front. Hey, it was the '80s, nobody cared. The carts and instructions were sold 10 years ago. The boxes were flattened for scanning purposes and will be shipped this way if/when sold. The built-in inserts have held up nicely making them sturdier than Atari brand boxes when un-flattened. Behold... Please post here or PM any thoughts or questions. Thanks!

I have a darth vader 2600 model. First I only played Night Driver and seems to work. But maybe is because this game is more binary left/right. All other paddle games the sprite move corner left to corner right, without gradation. Any hint where the problem can be? Thanks.

Please check out the binary in the first post of Byte Knight and my work on a 1980 arcade port to the Atari 2600. With respect to AtariAge, no keywords in comments & suggestions please. Many people aren't aware batari Basic can now make games of this detail. You may have missed this if you avoid batari Basic games http://atariage.com/forums/topic/216037-dk-arcade-2600-progress-files-source-code-help-appreciated/

Been out of the collecting game for some time and came across a few drawers filled with loose Atari Carts. I still have a working console, but rarely bring it out anymore. So thinking of selling these as a lot. 94 loose carts. All were cleaned, tested and working when they were put away. Asking $600 plus shipping for all. That's just over $6 a cart. You can see what is there and do your own research on going rates. There are quite a few carts that currently go for $10 - $15 and a few higher end titles like H.E.R.O. in the mix to give some wiggle room. Since I have been out of the loop for a while, if you think the asking price is crazy, shoot me a pm with an offer. Worse case, I say no thanks.

Im in Sweden, Europe and EU but will of course ship anywhere, anyhow using whatever service we agree on. Oh, btw, thats the sun shinig on the R in River Raid, the label is not faded in anyway.

Hello Atari fans! I'm a poor indie game developer who is trying to complete an Amazing Atari 2600 PC style game and I'd really need some help from the community about the console limitations to keep my upcoming title as close to an original Atari 2600 game as possible! The game is called DEADFALL and here I've sent you a screenshoot of the game and the relative box art mockup! Thank you so much for your time!

Hi guys. I am a new member here, but I wanted to give the AtariAge members first dibs on this Kiosk before I list it on eBay. I have looked through the forums, and it appears the last Kiosk sold in 2014, but I don't see what price it sold for, and one in 2013 for I am assuming $750. I don't think one has popped up since then. This kiosk does not have the built in brain board. I purchased this from an older couple who got it from a K-Mart in 1986. It has been sitting in their basement ever since, and does show some signs of wear, but nothing major. Most damage as you will see in the photos is along the front control panel laminate. There is some moisture damage on the underside at the base in the rear, but you can't even see it when up against a wall. Also, it appears to be missing two of the bottom shelves, but a piece of MDF would suffice in replacement, it is pretty basic. T-molding all looks pretty decent, plexi has some scuffs but not too bad. Around the control panel there is some staining from what looks like Pepsi or something, but not too bad. I tried to clean it the best I could but with a little extra work I'm sure it could be restored further. The controls work great. In fact, it makes playing 2600 enjoyable lol. The paddles might need a shot of electronics cleaner, but they both still function fairly well. It is currently stationed in my garage, up on pallets. The featured photo shows it all decked out with merchandise (and photoshopped into a nicer looking room rather than a garage, lol) - sorry, games not included. Please click the imgur album link to see more photos. Included is the kiosk itself, the gnarly Sony Trinitron, and the 2600 console. I am in the Springfield/Dayton area in Ohio, and I assume most of you would prefer to pickup so you could see it in person first - but if I can get close to my price I might consider doing a delivery, make a weekend out of it. It would be delivered disassembled of course (assembly is like 12 screws). Here is my eBay user account if you'd like to check my feedback/whatever; http://www.ebay.com/usr/poisongoomba Link to imgur album with more photos: http://imgur.com/a/auJBu Please feel free to ask me any questions about it. I don't have a lot of room to store it, and I would love it to go to a good home where it can be preserved. Thanks! EDIT: I currently have a standing offer for $1500, the buyer wants to meet me in September. So I will put a hold on until then.

So, just a couple weeks ago I bought my first *real* Atari 2600 after spending years playing just Flashback models. It's a handsome black and grey American Atari Jr. model; 4 switches, small, can't fit Parker Bros. cartridges, cost $150 at my local Hock Shop. Came with a copy of Missile Command. The other day while playing Space Invaders, I spilt Chocolate Milk on the console, though it was off at the time. I let it dry and it seems to be working fine, except for one tiny detail --- the color is black and white! And it won't work no matter what I do; not changing the TV channel, not turning that little grey color switch left and right, not squeezing thr film capicators, nothing! Can someone help me?

I have a really stupid/brilliant idea, basically I want to put a retrotink 2x mini inside an s-video modded Atari 2600 Vader. The idea is to keep the console bone stock looking, with the only visual difference being an HDMI cable instead of an RF cable coming out of the back. I should be able to get +5v off the 7805 to power the 2x, but have no doubt it will burn it out quickly if I do. Can someone recommend a dc/dc converter that is a drop in replacement for the 7805 regulator, preferably with a little extra available amperage? On a side note, can I just remove the RF modulator? It looks like a great place to mount the retrotink, but I don’t know if it’s tied into anything.

I was looking on eBay a couple of weeks ago. I don't even remember how I found these now. But I noticed these 2600 boxes in a mixed loose and boxed lot. The artwork on the silver boxes caught my eye as they were not what my brain would normally associate with those titles. The Galaxian art seemed familiar but I couldn't place it. There were no pictures of the backs of the boxes in the listing. I did some googling and came up with nothing. Searched Atari Mania, nothing. So I went all in and won the auction. They arrived and I was very excited when I saw the backs of the boxes. It turns out I should have recognized the Pole Position art as a variation of it was used on the 5200 box. @Ballblaɀer also pointed out to me that the Galaxian box appeared in an issue of Atari Age magazine in 1983. Also Tim Lapetino pointed out on my FB post that he came across the Galaxian art when he was researching his Art of Atari book, but it didn't make the cut. I am very happy to have these in my collection now. The promo boxes were in amazing condition for being printed in 1982 & 1983. The boxes did have standard copies of Galaxian & PP carts an manuals inside. My guess these were added by someone along the way. The rest of the carts in the lot were in amazing condition and the Kaboom box was missing the cart. An odd lot for sure. Enjoy.

Could anyone hack Video Olympics to increase the AI of the computer player, and enable a computer player on more than games 1 and 2? I think it would be a good idea.

Hi everyone Hope someone can help me, I am having issues with my 2600 4 Switch PAL, when I boot Asteroids, the game will appear on the screen but has graphical issues (image attached) and sometimes will change colour to dark purple. Games like Pole Position I can hear it but can't see anything on the TV Screen. I was wondering if anyone has had this issue. Steps I've currently done: Changed the main cap 2200uf 35V and the 4.7uf cap with new ones. Cleaned the pins on all three chips - Chips are soldered not socketed. Change regulator to a new one. Thank you in advance.

Hi, New to the community, just joined. I setup my first 7800 and ordered bunch of games from eBay. I am in my mid 40's and 2600 was my first console (other than a pong clone). I have so many childhood memories with that machine. Recently I had this itch to revive those fun days. Emulators weren't cutting it, so I started looking for a 2600. While I am at it, why not get the 7800, since I learned it was backwards compatible. I am already working on some custom labels for some of the duplicate games with damaged labels. Why the hell not. Here are 2 pics showing the 7800, and the connection hack for a modern TV. Surprisingly the picture on TV is pretty clear without interference unless I touch the adapter.
