Recently I bough Atari 400 with mechanical keyboard. Looks like it is working, but I noticed mislabeled chip: C014795-12, PIA, but the second line is R6502-26. Printing error in Rockwell company?

[UPDATE SOLD the 4 NOS 400 keyboards I had - still have one known good used one] For Sale: I have a small number of NOS (new old stock) original Atari 400 keyboards (the original flat ones). Please PM me if you need one. U.S. based. $25 + shipping. I have not tested each one however I used one in my tricked-out ‘keeper’ 400 and it works great. I also have 1 used known working 400 keyboard. $10 + shipping. They are lite but shipping takes a somewhat bulky box to properly protect the connector cable. I also have many Atari 8bit books and some cartridges for sale too if you want to combine and save on shipping. I will add links to my other FS items. Thanks for looking. 😁

All this is about original 400/800 "non-XL" machines: I am trying to use tf_hh's 400 RAM card to best effect by burning an EPROM with Fastchip and Omnimon for the 400/800. While I have found a lot of documentation I have not been able to collect the necessary ROM files (or at least to assemble them in a form that works on Altirra before I burn them). My understanding is that I need 8K of OSN OS ROM which is patched to allow, inter alia, access to Omnimon with System Reset + Option, 4K of Omnimon and (optional) 2K of FastChip which should be assembled in the following sequence: Fastchip C000-CFFF empty/zero D000-D800 (hardware registers) FP ROM D800-DFFF OS ROM E000-FFFF I would be happy with a single file I can burn but short of that appreciate any vectors on where to find working ROM files. There is documenation about an extended Omnimon and a combined Omnimon/ROMDOS but I understand these to require a RAMROD board that allows for bankswitching in the C000-CFFF area. As I will eventually try to use these on an Incognito 800 as well, would that support bankswitching of the OSN type in the C000-CFFF area?

SELLING ENTIRE COLLECTION FROM 1980's. I worked as a sales rep for Activision in the early 1980's and have a LOT of prototypes (14 total - 8 for 2600, 2 for 5200, 4 for Intellivision), used games in boxes (40+ and mostly Actiivision titles), a 2600 and a 400 game console and even typed original drafts of instructions for 5 games. I want to sell it ALL IN ONE LOT. According to these blogs the protos should be worth about $80 each, no idea of the value of the instruction manuals, and we all know the value of the other games and consoles (not much...). I also have two unopened, sealed ROBOT TANK by Activision for the 2600. Check out the pics. I live in San Diego and YOU will pay shipping. First $600 (plus shipping) can have it ALL, right now! Or make your best offer. and highest bidder just may get this Collection. I had trouble uploading the pics from Google so here's a link top the pics - just copy and paste... (Sorry, I am a salesman, not a tech!!!) LOL https://photos.app.goo.gl/WN5DyyNTrGApAnec7

Hi everyone, Just discovered the website; I'm still looking through it. Amazing stuff here. I couldn't locate any answers to a question and Giggle led me here. - so i did search as well as I could ? - I have a few Atari 400s, 800, C-64s, ... and many Atari 2600 cartridges. Unfortunately I no longer have a 2600. I'm sure others like some games on the 2600 that are just not the same on the 400/800 machines. Just one example is Space Invaders. The 2600 version is simply the best one ever (over 100 levels of Space Invaders)... Anyways, would anyone here know if I can convert my ROMs (or if anyone has any magic) to play the cartridges (and or program) from the 2600 on an 8 bit Atari computer? all the best, Mortis....

I've an Atari 400 that I had apart and late one night decided to install a UAV board. I then connected the power board, inserted the CPU and RAM cards, then powered on. No video signal. I checked over my wiring to figure out what I had done wrong, but the wiring was all correct. Then suddenly I realized something, with the sinking feeling as I would imagine someone might have when they hear the scraping of the belly of their airplane upon a gear up landing...I had installed the cards backwards! I know what direction they're supposed to go, but had a lapse of attention at some point. I quickly powered off, turned the cards around, and tried powering on. This time had a video signal, but a blank screen. All I can get now is a blank screen, or once in awhile, a green screen. I've checked power and signals everywhere I can think of, but everything appears to be good. I eventually figured out that all the ICs are good and it's not the power board. The problem is definitely a component on the main board. Power looks good at all cards and ICs (+5V, +12V, -5V), the frequencies are good, the O2 signal looks great at all appropriate locations, the CPU SYNC is going, address lines are all active, CAS and RAS are active on the RAM. I can't figure what where the problem is, but it's definitely one of the mainboard components. Anyone have any idea of what I might have fried that can cause this? I forgot to add, there's also no activity on the SIO. Fortunately, this was my own Atari I was working on.

Hey guys, I have. Bunch of excess stuff I got in a lot I bought. To my knowledge nothing works. I really don’t want to break it up and sell it as a lot. Otherwise I am afraid I may have to take it to the recycler. (I am running out of room) 400 Computer 410 Tape Drive Ape Face Interface MPP modem Koala Pad Light Pen Joysticks 4 port joystick tap. I am winning to give this away to anyone that wants to pay the shipping.

Got a display cabinet from a garage sale (IKEA DETOLF) for only $10. I think it looks pretty good. Sadly the 800 didn't fit. Quite happy with my XEs all fitting though! (Will post more about some of these items in the future) ;-)

Can anyone give me any pointers as to how to diagnose a 400/800 RAM board? I have a 48k one and a 32k one and i feel ive done all that i can with them but I just keep getting the red/brown screen. ive checked traces for continuity where there should be and shorts where there shouldnt be. Ive checked the 4116 DRAMs work in a standard board and ive checked that the 4164 DRAMs work in an XL. The 48k one receives it's SEL4, SEL5, A14 and A15 connections from the Z103 socket (via a small piggyback PCB) and it also gets the RD4 and RD5 from the cartridge socket (via 2x wires). Does anyone know of a procedure for troubleshooting? Im wondering if the 74LS glue logic is at fault. cheers!

My apologies if this has been covered somewhere but I've done a few searches and read through the restoration thread and have not found anything. The cartridge cover on my 800 doesn't open very well. When I release the latch, the door does not really move on its own. I can see that it could move but there is enough friction that it does not. I don't need it to spring open like a catapult, but I would like it to be smoother and free of binding. What success stories do people have? Are there non-damaging methods to lubricate the pivot points so I can reduce friction? Some oils can attack plastic. I would not want to risk softening the door or any surrounding areas.

I'm new to these forums and just replied all of this in another forum but thought to get best results that maybe I would start my own thread. Here is what I wrote in the other thread. Thanks. I was wondering if anyone here might be able to help me. Bill Loguidice suggested I write something here in the Atariage forums for some help. My good Friend Doug Hardy who was one of the engineers who helped design the 2600, 400 and 800 just recently passed. When I say design, I mean the casings/consoles, cartridges and how everything went together. His name is on several Atari patents including the cartridge. He was part of the team at Fairchild and engineered the cartridge there and literally the day he finished and the prototype was done he walked out the door and went to Atari. He gave me what he said is the very first "Candy" as he called her still. This Atari 400 according to him was the first prototype they put together after they finished with all engineering and had all the parts. You can tell by the way it's able to be taken apart and the fact that there is no serial number plate on it that it's a prototype. It does have a handwritten number on the inside of the machine itself. All pieces are still there including of course the electronics. Doug always told me that this machine was something special and so I want to see if there is anyone I can talk to about it. If anyone wants to send me a message or contact me I would love to find out more. By the way, I have him on audio talking all about how he ultimately came up with the design for the cartridge and how it wouldn't wear out plus stories of the 2600, 400 and 800. I'd love to see how I can put that on here somewhere so people can hear his story. I also have some really good stories from him on audio/video talking about the atmosphere at Atari (yes it was some crazy times) and how corrupt it became once Warner took it over. Any help would be appreciated. Dennis

Hi everybody. I've got an Atari 400 with a keyboard that doesn't register 2,W,S,X, and Shift. I already swapped the 4051 and POKEY chip with known working ones so that isn't the issue. I did plug in a fully working keyboard from another unit and it worked fine in it. I was looking through old threads and found recommendations for myatari.com. It looks like the site is down for maintenance though. I'm not sure how long that has been offline. Does anybody here know if these are available anywhere else? Thanks guys. You've been a great help to me.

I've had a vcs and Intellivision for a long time now, I have the opportunity to buy a 400 computer with a bunch of game cartridges pretty cheap, but I've heard most of the 400/800 games availible were just 2600 games with graphical upgrades. I can see there are a few titles I don't have for any system, just wanted to ask what people think about it.

I've been thinking a little, and I think it would be fairly easy to build a RAM board for the atari 400/800 which would occupy the first RAM slot, have a ribbon cable run out to the 74LS42 address decoder, and provide 64K of RAM and the XL OS to the board. I think there would NOT need to be many soldered modifications, maybe to add a hard reset (or just modify the OS to detect the 400/800 NMI style reset). I would do my best to include a way to enable and disable the upgrade, so you can return to 400/800 mode and have all 4 joystick ports available for use, etc. The main purpose for this upgrade would be to put a U1MB into a 400 or 800, and plug it into this board. The existence of an MMU socket, a 28 pin style OSROM socket, and all of the other necesary signals pinned out for the U1MB (with the exception of /HALT which would require a connection to the CPU board I believe) would make the installation all but plug and play since all 400/800's are socketed. The only non-plug and play bit would be the soldered connection to /HALT on the ANTIC, I believe. In addition to providing U1MB connections, this upgrade could be used standalone as a 64K upgrade, just use an OSROM (would be provided) and an MMU (would probably be present on the board as a CPLD) and it works by itself. I was thinking I would do my best to keep the price below $50, though I suspect it'd be cheaper even (the concept itself isn't all that complex IMO, so I'd estimate $30 at the least). Of course, this is only checking interest, I'm not saying I will do this in quantity just yet, or that everything I said is even correct/that the concept is totally viable. EDIT: also, I know that the incognito is basically U1MB + SIDE converted for the 800. I know there are subtle differences in the software, like the U1MB stuff using a different key in place of help on the incognito. To that effect, hopefully Candle will helpful in this regard, and allow me to make some small changes to the U1MB firmware image to allow easy use with this board, which would have to be flashed into the U1MB once installed. I know this seems a lot like incognito, but the difference is that it also supports the 400. That was my original plan, to make it for the 400, but there's no reason it couldn't work in an 800, so I might as well support it. I don't mean this to compete with incognito, I want to make that clear. EDIT2: typo, there will NOT need to be many soldered modifications EDIT3: 400/800 use 74LS42 as address decoder, not 74LS138.

Hi guys, I was browsing the forum and found this topic about French Atari 400's: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/62346-atari-400-way-to-use-a-video-monitor-with-it/page-2 I remembered that I have a 400 with a Scart (or in France Peritel) connector. Sadly in the topic the pictures aren't available anymore, so I cannot compare my 400 with the one Arnaud (atari-passion) showed in the thread. I tried to power it on. My television set detects the signal (scart and audio) but sadly no picture. Also on the RF cable there is no picture. I will try to fix this. Looking at the pinout if the scart connector uses only Composite video and audio, so it is not RGB. But in the meantine, has anyone seen this kind of mod anywhere?

I'm thinking about connecting a XEGS keyboard to my 400. Since the XEGS keyboard has two 4051 in its case, the signals on the connector are essentially the POKEY input signals. My thinking is that I only have to connect the XEGS keyboard signals to the POKEY. My question: Should I protect the POKEY or does it suffice to directly connect them?

From the album: My Game Collection
Bought this at a local Metal and Electronics recycler, was in their "Second Chance Resale Section", paid $10. Works Good. Came with 4 Joysticks and Epyx "Pit Stop" Cartridge. -
After picking up an Arabic NAJM Atari 65XE i started searching for info on it. That led me to someone stating they had a Hebrew Atari 8-Bit (both with keyboard and OS variants). I'm wondering what other Atari 8-Bit computers came with different language variations? Is there a list that shows all different Atari 8-Bit computer keyboard language versions? I tried searching the Forums but only found keyboard variations - not language / OS variants. Would love to find out more (and collect) other Non-English Atari's

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a 400\800 computer right now. Working of course. I really just need the computer itself. I already have a 800xl, (so I assume they use the same power\rf.....correct me if I'm wrong). Pm me if your interested in selling. I would prefer 800, but I could also be interested in a 400. All if this if the price is right and we can work out a deal.
