  1. Selling a beautiful, working Atari 800 (see pics). Includes S-Video Monitor Cable (new), and Modern (wall-wart) Power Supply (also new). $280 + actual shipping charges.
  2. Hi there, I decided to rescue this program using scan and OCR-ed text file but I'm not sure if everything is OK there. All details in this topic: Yeah, linking it here because it's Atari 80bit related after all.
  3. As a kid, I recall seeing the 800XL in a department store in Hamburg and thinking that this was the natural evolution of things Atari. I had the Atari 2600, so seeing this computer with a a cartridge slot at the top, two joystick ports and then the select/start buttons on the side made it seem that this was the next system to get. I actually don't recall any cartridges being played on the display models and none of my friends had a computer. We mostly had 2600s and we swapped games for a few days. At this point in time, a couple of kids had a ColecoVision and we were all jealous. Back then I had no clue that the 800XL was related to 400 with the flat keyboard and the 5200 was nowhere to be seen. In all honesty at this point in my life I was gravitating towards Commodore. Specifically the V(I)C-20 which would be bought in a nice carrying case for 200 DM. The C64 was impressive, but I knew I could never convince my parents to pay that much. But none come of that. I ended getting a C64 when I came to Canada and made that my primary gaming system (as well as 2600Jr and a 7800) until I bought PS1 in 97. The desire of getting a 800XL never left me. Now that I have a several 2600/7800 systems, this is always something I wanted to get. I don't really feel the need to get a C64 at the moment, especially with the crazy prices for that gear. I did get a 65XE a couple years back, but that did very little for me and not the desired reaction I had so I ended up selling it. After trying to buy one here in the forums and being frustrated at some nickel-n-diming by a couple of people, I decided to look for one on eBay and Kijiji. A couple of weeks later, I saw someone selling one in Mississauga, with the added bonus of including an Epyx joystick, which is something I have been meaning to get for ages as well. The computer itself is in great cosmetic shape and all self-tests pass successfully. All keys work and it's nice to do some BASIC programming again. As I did for my 65XE I ordered an monitor-composite cable off eBay. I have been putting it through it paces. The one thing I won't do for this system is collect a bunch of cartridges or get a disk drive. I have decided I will get the AVGCart based on the comments in the 8-bit forum and just load my software this way. I can't wait to play Bruce Lee on this!
  4. Hi, ever since I bought a donor board to repair my 600xl with, I've had a spare, perfectly good Pokey chip just lying around. I'm thinking of using it for a stereo mod, but I can't seem to find where to purchase a stereo pokey board. Does anyone know where I can get one?

  6. Hi all, I think that the Atari 5200 is under-represented in the BASIC 10-liners competition, so here is a new easy way to write games for the console: Just released a new beta version of FastBasic, with one big addition: With the help of @vitoco, the PC compiler now supports the Atari 5200! You can read the details in the manual at https://github.com/dmsc/fastbasic/blob/master/a5200.md , and the compiler usage in https://github.com/dmsc/fastbasic/blob/master/compiler/USAGE.md Basically, the Atari 5200 target supports: - All the integer and string functions, including compatible STICK() and STRIG(). - Graphic modes 0, 1, 2, 7 to 13 and 15, with PLOT and DRAWTO support. - DLI and P/M. - PRINT to screen and GET for reading the Atari 5200 keypads. To implement the Atari 5200 support, there are a lot of changes to the compiler under the hood, now the compiler supports multiple targets, and the old "integer only" and "floating-point" compilers are simply different targets now, the targets currently implemented are: Atari 8-bit computers binary loadable files (XEX, with and without floating point), Atari 8-bit computers Cartridge images (CAR, with and without floating point) and the new Atari 5200 Cartridge images (BIN). Also, for advanced users, now the language can be extended without modifying the compiler sources, by writing new target files, there is an example in the compiler manual for writing a new statement and a new function, see https://github.com/dmsc/fastbasic/blob/master/compiler/USAGE.md#extending-the-language There is a few new language extensions: - TAB() function inside PRINT, moves to a column multiple of a number. - DIM can be used to declare normal variables (like "DIM X$, Z"), the variables are automatically initialized to 0 or empty strings. - The comma in prints now uses the TAB function internally, so it behaves more consistently in screen output (but in a different way that Atari BASIC). Well, you can download all the usual files from Github: https://github.com/dmsc/fastbasic/releases/tag/v4.6-beta Attached is a test program, the "joyas" game ported to the Atari 5200 Have Fun! EDIT: final 4.6 version is released: joyas.bas joyas.bin
  7. Looking to buy or trade for a tested & working Atari 8-Bit Cassette Drive (any type that will work with an NTSC 800 or 800XL.) I've now purchased a total of 4 drives (2 each 1010 & 410,) serviced them all to the best of my ability and none of them work. 2 different computers and 3 different cables (with the 1010's.) My primary trade item, for someone who is up to doing better servicing than I, are the 3 remaining drives (sold one of the 1010's,) I have that are not working. I also have some other Atari parts, as well as general vintage parts. If interested, l can send a list. Thank you.
  8. Hi All, I will be selling my collection, as a bundle. There are some gems in there. Atari Roots for one, Mac/65 with manual and big box Robotron. Also a spare NOS 400 keyboard, and an 800XL mobo. 2 USB power for XL series adapters and an XIO to USB. I am looking for reasonable offers. I live in the Los Angeles Area. Thank you. KB

  10. Hi; So I hauled out my 8-bit collection (that has been modded for various reasons back when I used it heavily back in the '90s). I have forgotten soooo much! This 8-bit stuff got me through a dissertation, online database searching and early attempts at running a profession-related BBS before the Internet was ubiquitous. Current problem. I'm trying to efficiently figure out what to do to resurrect a 130XE that currently only boots to a blank green screen. I noted that a different computer (Also Atari 8-bit) booted to green screen when the ribbon cable for the keyboard was badly inserted (a corner was folded over itself...straightening that out allowed it to boot correctly, but that was not the problem with the unit at hand). First question: I have a pretty horrid/beat up 65XE that I was thinking I might scavenge for parts/chips, BUT other than memory are the 65XE chips the same as the 130XE? Next question: Is there a step-by-step logical process for teasing out the most efficient process for diagnosing/repairing the green screen issue? Thanks Stuff I have on hand... CSS Black Box with Floppy Board (Bob Puff was my main go-to guy back in the day!) SpartaDOS X with R-time-8 cartridge 130XE with 320 RAM upgrade/Multiplexer OS (in good working order) 130XE with a ROM board/switch that can switch/boot between 3 different chips (this is the machine with the problem) 800XL standard/good working order 65XE with horrid case and keyboard with many dead keys (I might be brave/foolhardy enough to try and desolder this for parts). 1050 disk drive XF551 disk drives (2) Hard drive with various Sparta/MyDOS boot partitions and utilities. Various game cartridges and 8-bit software mostly on 5.25 disks.
  11. Wanted to let people know that I have completed typing and debugging a working version of the example program "Mazies & Crazies" from Frank DaCosta's book "Writing Adventure Programs on the TRS-80". Here is a link to my latest post on the project: http://jimgerrie.blogspot.com/2020/04/retrochallenge-april-2020-mazies_19.html It is my impression that this program does not exist in any playable form on any TRS-80 archive sites out there. Anyone know if other working versions exist? I read that a TI99 version of the program also exists. The source is on my github: https://github.com/jggames/trs80mc10/tree/master/quicktype/Dungeon/Mazies The TRS-80 version can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1_3FddzKahUKnS5P5peXqqXwJTyej2b-g MAZIES can be played in the Javascript MC-10 Emulator here: http://faculty.cbu.ca/jgerrie/MC10/ Just select it from the "-Select Cassette-" menu and then type RUN and hit Enter. Thanks.
  12. ======================== EDIT: These items are no longer available. ======================== I recently came into possession of a decent sized collection of Atari gear. I grew up playing games and computing on similar Atari hardware so I'm somewhat familiar with the gear. Despite most of the gear being in excellent condition, it was destined for a trip to the electronics recycler. Recognizing the historical significance of the gear, I snatched it up to ensure that it can live on. I'm looking to sell and redistribute the gear to the community of enthusiasts here to ensure that it can be preserved and enjoyed for many more years. I spent many hours cataloging, testing hardware, photographing everything, and uploading photos. I've done my best to test and verify the functionality of most of the gear in this listing. You can see a list of everything that I have here: https://bit.ly/2qeRtAA Each item includes link to an imgur.com posting with photos. Most items also include a note about the condition of the item. Sorry, it's not the most convenient way to view everything in one shot but it works for me. I didn't include prices on my spreadsheet as I don't really have the time to determine the value of each item. In many ways, the value is really determined by the community here anyway. I would simply ask, if you would like to make an offer for anything on the list, make it a reasonable offer. Also, keep in mind there are shipping costs. Some of the larger items may incur significant shipping costs. I can certainly offer local pickup for anyone in my area. I'm located in south central Pennsylvania (York, PA area). https://goo.gl/maps/bWMy8WTxebmbAu54A Contact me via email or PM if you're interested.
  13. Anyone else going out to Classic Game Fest 2019 in Austin next week (July 27 & 28)? https://classicgamefest.com/ Rob and I will be there. In fact, we are going to have a booth this year as an indy game developer. We aren't selling anything, just showing our existing homebrew games to let people play them on real Atari 8-bit computer hardware and proper CRT monitors. We'll be demo'ing a few sneak peeks of things we've been working on too. Pretty cool stuff I think. And of course, more than anything else we'll be spreading the word about the amazingly active Atari 8-bit computer community and sharing info like how/where to get emulators, ROMs, classic games, new homebrews, and where to chat with others interested in this great hobby (like AtariAge.com of course !). Anyway, if you come out to Classic Game Fest next weekend, be sure to look for us... bitgod - "back in the good old days" -Eric

  15. Hi, I'm wondering if I'm the only one here that remembers Eliza? And if you do remember, just what was your feelings on it?
  16. MEMOIRS OF A NOVELTY ACCOUNT VOL. III, ISSUE III When a coworker approached me about two and a half months ago asking if I would compose the music for his video game, I was skeptical. After all, I had never seen a serious development project. Upon looking into it, however, I discovered that his ideas are full of potential and his drive to get things done is exceptional. In other words, I fully believe in his project, and am helping to the best of my ability. Since I am (or was, sorry...) active in the AtariAge community, I thought that an announcement here might help the game gather some traction. I know you all appreciate the essentials of good game design, and some of you are even programmers yourselves. I can attest that my coworker is a competent programmer and a lot of work has already been done on the project, technical and otherwise. Although the scandal involving the Ataribox crowdfunding campaign had soured me to the idea somewhat, I believe this is an entirely different situation. We already have material -- whether we're going to reveal it, though, is up to the community and the amount of support we receive. I hold a deep respect for the moderators and users of AtariAge, and I trust that this can be a success for all of us. I am posting a link to the GoFundMe page for our game, "They Keep Coming". Please visit and consider making a donation, and also feel free to comment and ask questions. I will be sure to provide updates on this blog when it is pertinent. Thank you. https://www.gofundme.com/They-keep-coming

  18. This Colecovision/Adam keyboard was part of a Commodore lot I bought a few months ago. It's missing a few keys, a bit of yellowing but otherwise feels solid and in good shape. I have no way of testing it as I don't have a Coleco system nor do I have the cable to connect it. Free or Trade, just pay shipping (US only) as I know someone can use this either for parts or a cleanup/restore project. PM me if interested and we can discuss the cost to ship, etc. Cheers, ISB

  22. Hi Im trying to fix this Commodore 64 but so far no success. When I power it up I get a line on screen (look at picture), after about 3 minutes the chips are slowly getting worm except for the PLA,SID and Kernal they get hot but just enough so that they can still be touched, i probed with my scope pins 1 and 39 on cpu and the clock seems fine ,how do I proceed from here I am suspecting the PLA but dont have another Commodore to test it I heard that I could test the chips using a arduino but probably would need a code for that.
  23. I have not done any development in Linux for Atari and I'm wanting to write some programs (games or utilities) and I'm wondering if anyone has ever set up a virtual machine via Virtual Box or VM Player? I don't want to duplicate effort if it's already been done, Why a virtual machine? I have multiple computers running multiple OS's and I want to be able to develop on whatever machine I'm currently in front of. I also want this pre-configured environment to be freely distributed, which is why I will not be using Windows. (I may use Mint so that it will look like Windows for those who have not used Linux before.) Constructive ideas and suggestions appreciated.
  24. Hello, I am keen to understand the inner workings of the game Crossfire for the Atari 8-bit computer. I find it to be a great game. I'm then going to try to port it slowly to all the other 8-bit computers, to learn how to program each old 80s micro. As a starting point, unlikely I know, does anyone have the original source code for the game Crossfire? If not, what would be the best software to disassemble this game? Thanks in advance, Nick
