  1. During the past few weeks I've been mulling over how to proceed with TIMXT and its development. The code base needs some TLC and many of the routines could be more efficient if I just bit the bullet to rework or rewrite them. I figured a development thread might help me collect my thoughts and share the periodic update. On that note... A few AA members (i.e., Paradroyd, duhproject) have twitter feeds where they post pictures of various BBS systems they connect to. I noticed a few cool C64 BBSs and was curious how the color and graphics were being interpreted. The C64 palette and character sets are different from the TI, and PETSCII has its own way of moving the cursor and controlling which graphics set to use. With the F18A, we can adjust the palette and use the text mode attributes to display colors, just like TIMXT handles ANSI colors today. So I thought a good approach to redoing the core interpreter would be to try my hand at emulating PETSCII. This week I incorporated the C64 extra graphics (thanks to Sometimes99'ers font collection) and finished all but two control routines for displaying the graphics and colors. The terminal window is hard-coded for 80 columns, though I might try to allow for a 40-column color mode to get closer to the C64 experience. Note: Particles BBS allows for PETSCII in 40 and 80 columns; of course, I chose 80 for my call Also, a few pictures show "@" and "]" in place of horizontal and vertical lines; I did not realize until later that there is some uniqueness to the PETSCII character sets that required me to redefine a few more characters. Scorps portal has been down so I couldn't retake the photos. Don't mind the terminal status bar - I haven't updated it. What you are seeing is PETSCII at 38.4K. 1. PLACEHOLDER - Current Release Files Shift838 pulled the EA5 and FR99 images together. This version is from early 2017 and should work with the standard RS232 and the nanoPEB. Macros cannot be saved/loaded in this version; that will be corrected in the future. TIMXT_NANO.zip EA option 5 files TIMXT_NANO.bin FR99 bin file TIMXT-v02c-2017-01-NANO-EA5.dsk disk image (thx Schmitzi) ** The PETSCII version has not yet been released ** 2. PLACEHOLDER - hardware configurations TI terminal emulators generally do not support hardware handshaking. a. TI/CorComp/Myarc RS232 The following cable is NOT configured for any RTS/CTS hardware handshaking, so be sure to turn it off if your modem is configured. AT&K0 is one common command to shut down handshaking. RS232 - modem device 1 - 1 2 - 3 3 - 2 6 - 20 7 - 7 20 - 6 b. NanoPEB Serial - a standard DB9 to DB25 serial cable works well with the nano. The nano's rs232 port is configured similar to that of a PC for easy connectivity. This also means if you roll your own cable, be aware that the pins will be different. c. uberGROM cart UART Connecting the UART to a modem device requires either a TTL-to-RS232 converter or a device that can operated at TTL levels. There are only three required connections: Ground, Receive, and Transmit. 3. 2. Hey Guys, For a new retro blast from the desperately late 80's early 90's The Lower Planes BBS is back in business.(Read play) at tlp.zapto.org Either telnet or ssh login as bbs with the password bbs, and it will forward you to the first available node, of which there are 5. If cli is no good to you, you can also get there by http just have a look about and head to the login page. This thing actually runs on x86 hardware, when I first fired it up, I didn't have the cash to buy a second IIgs to turn into a BBS, so I got a 286 with a massive 40Mb HD. Best peripheral for your Apple II We have Online Games, Message Areas with QWK support and 600year Warez dude. And its the only SuperBBS in the world. I have pong what've you got to trade for it? ftp is also available.... Have a better one, Aunty
  3. Updated: 6-4-2023 Instant Graphics! Online Graphics Script Interpreter Copyright 1988-2023 by Larry Mears Version 2.19 by Larry Mears, Freeware This is meant to used for Telenet BBSs by SYSOPs and Users *** IMPORTANT USE WITH HSMODA07.ZIP set up a 32K serial buffer the ST's default serial buffer is only 256 bytes I believe, not near enough!! I recomend using a 32K receive buffer with IG devloper and IG219.ACC Interlink's internal receive buffer can be set to 31K max. I do not recomend using IG with FLASH anymore as it's internal receive buffer can not be adjusted it's to small only reliable at 2400 baud for IG script. FLASH and Interlink ignore any serial receive buffer set up by HSMOD and take over that when they run. So if you are running Interlink HSMOD is not needed just set Interlink's serial receive buffer to 31K. If Interlink is running and you use the IG219.ACC it will use the Interlink serial buffer. Once you QUIT the Interlink program the serial buffer is gone, so you have to use HSMOD with IGDEV program if you want to go online with the IGDEV program. I tested the 32K buffer at 19200 baud. It will probably be enough in most cases. It worked on The Gauardian of Forever BBS drawing the opening Gate screen and it is fairly elaborate. I think HSMOD can be set to 64K buffer if really needed. Here's the link I got mine from... https://sites.google.com/site/stessential/home/all-software What's NEW in IG219.ACC and IG219L.ACC (light version no file support): I'd like to note that the "I" command did NOT do a restorative resolution switch. I went back as far as IG210 and checked the source code the older manual says it does a RES switch but it did NOT. It did everything else but not RES switch. I added a I 5 option just for that, seems like a good idea. I recently discovered that the VDI Compatible Resolution Switch by Steve Cole and Lawrence Gold if executed before setting the color palette will mess with VT52 text color, so ALWAYS do a resolution switch FIRST then set the palette. Like G#I>5:I 0: otherwise you won't get the colors you expect. IG219's 'G'rab command aka BitBlit is fixed so when IG switches from medium resolution to LOW it doesn't ask GEM how many bit planes but checks the resolution itself and sets the number of bit planes available so all BitBlit commands should work after a res switch not just SCREEN to SCREEN. I also added a new BitBlit command Memory to Memory, lets you do hidden Blits then pop them up. No clipping so stay within the X,Y bounds. IG219 BIGgest addition would be the the NEW f and z commands. PolyFill the f command draws a filled polygon with up to 128 sides. PolyLine the z command draws a connected line with a minimum of 2 end points and maximum 128 end points. Like the Line and Drawto IG commands but less IG script. IG219 has a new X 10 command it sets the begining point for the Drawto command. Just a feature, not that critical, because the Line or Plot command already set this as it should. I also added to the R and I commands options to SET the default VDI color palette and resolution. The IGDEV program has added support for these additions. I also added a full blown text editor ME.TTP, IGDEV passes the draw buffer to it as file so there is a decent text editor if you need to hand edit your IG script. It writes a file called BUFF.IG then passes that to ME.TTP, BUFF.IG gets wiped out every time it does that, but it might save you if you forgot to save your IG script at exit, at least from that hand edit point. The IGDEV program uses the out lined cross hair now. If you press the CONTROL key you get a drawing grid, multiple presses changes grid size. LEFT SHIFT key prints X,Y coordinates, mutiple presses changes position where X,Y is printed. The draw grid and X,Y coordinates may appear on top off some of your drawing but it is not permanate. They are just visual tools. I also fixed a bug that had been in all the IG2xx.ACCs that I wasn't aware of till recently, every exit would drop 310 bytes. With IG219.ACC this doesn't happen. The DEV progam and EMU didn't has this issue. Happy Drawing, Larry Mears IG219D12.ST IG219D12.ZIP
  4. This is the Instant Graphics update after 30 years IG218.ACC and IGS218.EMU for the Interlink terminal. The IGDEV10.PRG for Drawing and making Music and to upload to Telenet BBS systems using a WIFI modem or maybe some other way with a modified version of Hatari on one Apple system that I know of... https://breakintochat.com/blog/2012/12/13/telnet-to-bbs-within-hatari-emulator/ The IG218D10.ZIP file I made on my 1040STf with WIN Zip 2.2 I got from here: https://www.modula.org.uk/atari-st-disks/ just search for video master on that page it's on that disk image. It may be compatible with the ZIP that Windows does I didn't test it much. IG218 does lot's of things IG217 does not. IG218 has editable fill and line patterns, a new timing command that uses Vsync, internal double stepping for XORing with BitBlit, the Spray Paint command has color rotation, the random constant has two ranges r and R, the input command now uses all mouse pointers not just a polymarker. I changed the IG default color palette and tried to make resolution swapping better. I added a new option for the N command you can jump forward in the buffer, this allows you to jump to several short chip tunes as needed. There is new X 9 command that loads and executes IG commands in the IG MIDI buffer. Also IG218 when grabbing number values from the serial port or a file ALLOWS a carriage return and line feed character to break the line the _ still works. In the IGDEV10.PRG just HIT the F1 key to Draw and make Music. The IGS Editor Kevin Moody & Anthony Rau wrote only supported Medium Resolution limiting it to 4 colors. I really wanted it to support Low Resolution 16 color mode. When I wrote BIG Paint(DOS), Condor PAINT(DOS), Vectasketch & Sketchpad(JAVA applets) they all had many colors. IG needed that too. ST high res mono mode supported as well. I worked on this update for the last 2 years hope you enjoy it. IG218D10.ST IG218D10.ZIP
  5. I have in my possession a pair of disks that I believe I received via mail from the author Paul L.A. Sungenis around 1989. I have no recollection of the circumstances, but I must have crossed paths with him on a local BBS somewhere in Massachusetts (USA). I assume this is probably the same person as Pab Sungenis ? I see he hasn't logged onto the forum in a couple years. Would be interesting if he recognizes that as his own handwriting! I had the foresight to make ATR copies of these disks back in 1999, so I still have the images and can confirm they boot in Altirra. I can at least get some of the initialization screens loaded, but not much beyond that yet.
  6. It seemed appropriate to start a new thread. Heatwave BBS has been back online since Mad Hatter provided the files to me. The "testing" seems to have gone well, so I will plan to keep the BBS online going forward. I have not yet moved the BBS to its final hardware home, which means it is still running on my well-traveled Geneve programming system. You can get to it via telnet at heatwave.ddns.net port 9640 For those of you using the F18A, I recommend trying TIMXT at 38.4K. I have been making some tweaks and updates to the program but I don't yet have an ETA for its next release. Geneve users can use PORT, also at 38.4k.
  7. Hello everybody, A few months ago I started a small Bulletin Board System (BBS) project. Beery Miller had already announced in January 2020 that he would convert the After Hours BBS system to Telnet communication for the TI-99/4A home computer with Tipi extension. Even then, I thought it was a good idea to use my TI with this application. In mid-May, Beery Miller made the BBS software available in the AtariAge forum. That was when I installed the software on my second TI-99/4A with a Tipi extension. After all, the BBS system should run around the clock, 7/24 hours. In addition to the BBS program, Beery also provided all source files. That gave me the idea of gradually converting my BBS system to German. The changeover has not yet taken place in all areas, but the basic text information and parts of the menu control are implemented in German. I set up the system texts in English and German. The TBOX99 BBS system can be called with any Telnet client. A file transfer is possible with the XMODEM protocol. The TBOX99 BBS system has been available since 05/20/2020 at the following address: URL: mytbox99.ddns.net Port: 61643 In addition to my TBOX99 BBS system, there is a second AFTER HOURS BBS, which Arcadeshopper operates in the original English version. The “THEKEEP” After Hours BBS can only be called from the “The Keep BBS”. After logging into The Keep BBS, the After Hours BBS can be reached with the following two commands: /go dialout + enter then d 19 + enter Beery Miller has further developed the After Hours BBS system over the past few months. He has implemented a huge download area with a very extensive menu structure and more than 3000 files available for the TI-99/4A and for the Geneve computer. He has also implemented a search function that searches all files and brief information in the entire download area for a specific term and lists the files found. In addition to news and information in the message area, the BBS can now also be used as a program source for the TI-99/4A and the Geneve computer. For me this is a very good example of the practical (hobby) use of a retro computer! For everyone who has not yet created an account in the TBOX99 BBS, I have converted the current TBOX99 newsletter #3 to pdf format. This issue explains how to download files from the BBS system. The example uses the "Mass Transfer" (MXT) program on a TI99-4A. The TBOX99 newsletter is a pure text file that can be displayed on practically any terminal. TBOX99_#03_Newsletter.pdf Here are also the previous editions of the TBOX99 newsletter: Issue 2 contains an overview of the currently available hardware and software extensions for the TI-99/4A as well as an illustration of the menu structure in the TBOX99 download area. TBOX99_#02_Newsletter.pdf Issue 1 contains brief information about the start of the BBS system TBOX99_#01_Newsletter.pdf If you feel like it, you can log into the TBOX99 system and simply take a look at the system or leave a message. 8. On this day in 1992, The DarkForce! BBS went online, using an Atari 1040ST, Megafile 30 Hard drive, an SX212 modem and Michtron BBS software...
  9. I've put up an example BBS Express 1.0 deployment, and a wiki page on its use, here: https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-platformio/wiki/BBS-Express-850-1.0 Enjoy.
  10. I have started a new user page on the Wiki: https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-platformio/wiki/Deploying-your-Favorite-BBS Which will be a list of favorite BBS software, and how to deploy it. I've started with the FoReM-850-26M that I resurrected (this is the original version of FoReM from 1983, which is, in itself, an extended AMIS with multiple message boards.) Note that the example for FoReM provides a ready to run disk image that you can copy to your own system and get running using a step by step procedure. Have fun, -Thom
  11. NOTE: an update of OeeyGUI is forthcoming. I'll post v2 when I receive it from Shift838. the BBS software still works, though, if you just want that. Here is the OeeyGUI & Fusion BBS that Shift838 demonstrated at the TI99 fest in Austin. The fusion BBS wasn't on the CDs I handed out. Oeeygui-bbs.zip
  12. Hey guys, I'm in the middle of putting together a Carina II installation that can run on Fujinet, and I've managed to make it through the configuration system, however, it seems to fail to a ready prompt, causing MOE to constantly re-initialize the modem. Image is attached, maybe somebody notices something? -Thom carina2.atr
  13. Hello everyone, I just wanted to announce that over the weekend I launched a new BBS titled after my Atari 2600 homebrew, Space Cactus Canyon. You can use your favorite telnet client to access it at spacecactus.sytes.net, or, in the (extremely unlikely, I'm sure) event you don't have a favorite telnet client, I've set up a web page with an embedded client. It's pretty small right now, but I've done some customization in terms of graphics and forums. As for files, it has some of my favorite DOS games available for download, as well as some Atari 2600 ROM files--official releases and homebrews. I've never run a BBS before, and this was kind of a "because it's there" type of project. It seems most people run them either a.) out of nostalgia or a desire to keep things old-school or b.) from a libertarian, away-from-prying-eyes perspective. I'm wondering if there's something that BBSes could do today that the modern Internet can't. I don't know if there's an answer for that, but it could be very interesting if there's a service that a BBS could provide that's not really available elsewhere. Anyway, check it out if you're inclined, and let me know what you think! And I'd love to hear other ideas about what a modern BBS might accomplish.
  14. Hello there! I've been hunting for HBBS for running a BBS on my spare IIgs, but the software is elusive. I have never seen a copy of it anywhere. I tried to contact the author, Mr. Dornquast about it, but he has not responded to my messages unfortunately. Is there a chance anyone can help me with this? Thanks everyone. - Taylor
  15. The Lower Planes has had the following foibles and changes recently. Complete failure of HD on which it was stored Therefore a complete rebuild, which after some foibles of its own is now fully functional and improved from before Local message areas for Apple II, General, and FSX net for those interested. Super Stocked and growing file areas. I'd give my left testicle to figure out why x/y/z modem refuse to work, so FTP is really the only transfer option Files are packed in .shk format as per the halcyon days, to load into your existing system more readily Message base has had a complete reset, but its starting to bop along again. Online games have all been reset too. The Lower Planes firmly reccommends ProTerm, Megaterm, and Agate for enhanced viewing pleasure. You can have sexy ansi (slower), basic ansi (highlighting in colour, faster) or the standby standard of ASCII Would still like to investigate a message network between GBBS pro systems. Not sure what can be done with Warp6. A tlp.zapto.org www/telnet/ssh/ftp initial login is through a linux system which requires a login:password of bbs:bbs.
  16. I never even knew these files existed until I looked in my Tosek Library for Floppyshop Disks. Apparently there are a whole bunch of BBS, Communication utilities in this directory. This is the problem, I have so much stuff that I did not know where to find them. I am going to research more of what I already have and post the highlights here: Floppyshop BBS and Communication Programs
  17. Hey there, pineapple.zapto.org New A2 resource site. Home of the Hardware and Library databases. Enter some details off your unidentified card and see if it can give you a match to sort out what it is. The Library contains some 130 pdf documents at present, Tech Notes, private ramblings, manuals, schematics. Also searchable if you're looking for something in particular, view the results online or download the pdf if you want to. My own crazed ramblings and tribulations with CloneE and his GS brother, that never seems to work. Little bits of hardware and projects to add to either or both. Some odd photos... floppy disks, CloneE and Wishlist in the Photo Gallery. As my physio is want to say, use it or lose it. Logo doesn't show up very well here, its partly in white. A
  18. Hello everyone: I have worked 18 or more hours on my BBS screen creator, basically it takes any text and rewrites it in Inverse Video, coming soon will be color codes and as I am using an array now to store the screens in, they are easily manipulated, IE: fancy borders done around the text and I am focusing on 40 column text for the Atari8 Bit line of computers. My program is taking shape, but I need to ge some sleep , as I am one of those types to focus on nothing but the programming at hand, and often program for 18-20 hour stretches or until I tire out. And I have just done that, tired out !!!! So I am no good for programming until after about 12 hours sleep. I will however upload the atr file, and hope that someone can see the logic in my programming , and maybe help me to use Atari Basic more efficiently. Here is the atr file: BBS_Screen_Creator_2_A.atr
  19. Is anyone at all able to connect to my BBS, Spy Visits Spy BBS at 99.250.141.63 port 10001 ???? cannot connect locally or through my IP from my end Russ
  20. We got a proof of concept cheap WIFI solution going over at Atari-Forum. http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=31586 It's based on ESP8266 connected to the serial port. Should work for any atari and the parts are dirt cheap. C64 "wifimodems" are selling on ebay, connecting them to telnet based BBS's. Other retroscenes are also getting in on this aswell.
  21. Hi! I have an (unmodified) Atari 800XL, a SIO2USB and a Side2 Cartridge. During my Internet-Browsing, I have discovered a "Wifi Modem" called Retro Wifi SI which seems pretty cool. My questions: 1) Does anyone have experience with connecting an Atari 800XL to Internet-Based BBSs? 2) Connecting via WIFI looks very tempting -- is the "Retro Wifi SI" any good, what else do I need / is recommended (a 850? a BlackBox?) 3) Is there some sort of SIO device with a built-in "Wifi Modem", which maybe even has a similar look like the Atari 800XL? Maybe some sort of 1030 hack/mod with a higher baud-rate, ready to buy from someone? 4) Could I also use SIO2USB for that until I have a "proper" WIFI solution? What kind of software would I use with the SIO2USB on the PC-side to provide connectivity to Internet-Based BBSs? 5) Any caveats I should consider? Thanks!
  22. My BBS is now online catering to Atari ST, Atari 8 Bit, Atari Portfolio, and is on Telnet at 99.250.141.63 it is called Spy Visits Spy BBS and has 256 nodes online. Message bases and file downloads are there, door games are coming. Running Wildcat 5.0 on my PC. It is compatable with the Atari ST and the NETUSBEE cartridge but Ihave not connected to it yet that way. Hope that some of you guys try it out with your Atari ST. Russ Campbell

  24. I have gotten heavy into telnet BBSs and became rather impressed by the ST terminal program, TAZ, that allows 16 color ANSI emulation at medium res (2-bit color, of course) by way of color interlacing. Kind of like Megaroids and Quantum Paint, in approach. Anyway, I wrote about it a little and have a video showing the effect. For those interested. http://www.bytecellar.com/2017/06/18/four-colors-into-sixteen-terminal-innovation-on-the-atari-st/ bp
  25. I've been stuck inside for a few days from all the snow we've had, and during my bout of cabin fever I've been visiting many of the old school BBS's that are still hanging on out there on the Web via Telnet. If you haven't been on one of these since the end of the BBS era (1997ish) you owe it to yourself to download syncterm and give them a try. So many fond memories of dialing up late night BBS's to get the latest shareware release of Doom, Duke 3d, wolf 3d, Raptor... The list goes on and on. Stopping by my favorite message BBS (Millways) run on a bone stock 2 floppy drive Apple 2c even in late 96! Or heading over to "The Cave" that ran my favorite BBS software WWIV 4.24a Those were the days, and I'm glad to say that some of these old systems are still kicking. Fido net is still sort of active. Dove-net is rocking, heck WWIV-net is back! Love it. Anyway That's it, just thought I'd point out that these BBS's are still going...well, maybe not strong, but still going anyway in 2018! /s
