  1. I've often joked Bubsy was "The hit points of Mario with the speed of Sonic" I think Bubsy actually owes just as much to Mario as he does to Sonic for the inspiration. And today, the inspiration for Mario passed away. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-46072339?fbclid=IwAR2W8OwHzU3s28cfWOT85P6WfrHQCjgU2uGKYQhA4RVVlpy3VLkuspRGOSE I originally heard the news at this other blog: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/284642-not-atari-but-super-mario-the-real-life-guy-dies/ Rest in peace Mario Segale. Thanks for inspiring the jumpman that was maybe the first platformer mascot I saw. Maybe it was him or Bounty Bob from Miner 2049er. Not sure. Pretty close there. In tribute, I found some Mario jokes. Worth checking out. http://www.jokes4us.com/peoplejokes/supermariojokes.html
  2. Just got this in the eMail from Accolade... Added bonus... SpongeFox contributed to this frightfully great surprise, especially involving the Twins, with this new artwork today!
  3. HEADS UP BUBSY FANS! How would you like to see the Bubster in the limelight? In another game? In another game beating the tar out of Sonic? Well then follow this link and sign the petition saying you want Bubsy in the Smash Brothers roster!! https://www.change.org/p/nintendo-bubsy-the-bobcat-in-smash-bros-ultimate It's voting time and this is your time! Do it for the red, white, and orange!
  4. There are some promo books on eBay that I have not seen before. Basically two sets are available: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-SNES-SEGA-Mega-Drive-Ad-Booklet-BUBSY-Gods-Speed-Racer-Brett-Hull-Hockey/283224638872?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170221125817%26meid%3D568ecf64e1ef4a1db77478c79544809d%26pid%3D100754%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D283224638872&_trksid=p2045573.c100754.m4842 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-SNES-SEGA-Mega-Drive-Accolade-Vintage-Promo-Ad-Booklet-BUBSY-II-Ballz-etc/273522021427?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170221125811%26meid%3De81035e4581e40aabecf29ca58bf011a%26pid%3D100753%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D273522021427&_trksid=p2045573.c100753.m4841 And the second exact set... https://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-SNES-SEGA-Mega-Drive-Ad-Booklet-BUBSY-Gods-Speed-Racer-Brett-Hull-Hockey/283224638872?hash=item41f1810598:g:OCIAAOSwDX9bzzC9 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-SNES-SEGA-Mega-Drive-Accolade-Vintage-Promo-Ad-Booklet-BUBSY-II-Ballz-etc/273522021427?hash=item3faf2ed433:g:IM0AAOSw15Zbzyk4 Some cool pictures if nothing else.
  5. I wrote this to "Bubsy" on Twitter: So above all, not bad. A year later Bubsy is still $19.99 for a used copy, and $29.99 for a new copy at Game Stop. The leaderboards on Steam and Playstation are still active. Woolies Strike Back may be a relatively easy game to get through, most can get through in a little more than an hour; however, moving up in the leaderboards requires skills and tricks that take much longer. As any (good) game. Easy to learn, difficult to master. I think Woolies Strikes Back made for a game that learned from what people complained about. The shield shirt giving one hit is a great system around just giving Bubsy multiple hits (like in Bubsy 2). The Bubsy on Twitter has chimed in from time to time on National Smile Day, Mother's Day, and during the Olympics. Mostly ads, but there was one time where someone asked if the voice work in Bubsy games could be better and "Bubsy" took slight offense asking basically "Would an artist change a master piece?" (Agreed Bubsy, though we try not to look at George Lucas and "Star Wars: A New Hope.) Thought it was hilarious. A year ago I bought a Playstation 4 just for Bubsy, and competing on the leaderboards has had me jumping in every other day to squeeze out a few more points. Been fun. Bought Tempest 4000 on the PS4 and that game is quite amazing. Found that Golden Axe is in the Sega Genesis collection, and the Atari retro collection has a lot of fun games too. Not so sure about Raiden 5 looks too cartoony. But overall Bubsy sold me on the PS4 and I think it is, dare I say to my Atari 2600, Intellivision, and Jaguar... the PS4 is becoming my favorite system. I feel so dirty as a retro gamer. And where Fractured Furry Tales on the Jaguar was my favorite Bubsy game, Woolies Strikes Back has pulled ahead. Someone finally beat me in the Fractured Furry Tales speedrun this year (after ten years) and I almost don't care. Been hacking 2600 games, one of which being the Bubsy hack of "Fast Eddie",helping with the Bubsy Bobcat fan Wiki and yes, Woolies Strikes Back. That among the usual laundry list of life's challenges which praise God have been progressive and positive. So to BillionSoft/Accolade/Black Forest Games... thanks again for the latest installment of Bubsy. Made for a fun 2018 year! (And looking forward to the next Bubsy game!) - Doctor Clu http://atariage.com/forums/blog/234/entry-15170-the-one-year-anniversary-of-bubsythe-woolies-strike-back/
  6. Tomorrow is Michael Berlyn's * birthday, so wish him happy birthday Bubsy fans!! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004994478706&eid=ARBlt_UzWTwPsvvq2J6MpcLoOpv6VJGS-FxEEsbGuMBejRZAWickKTUhoWwIKUvsm7vHIbpFZhsiWYm1 * (creator of Bubsy Bobcat)
  7. This thread given as a reference as I realized the original hack thread should have been posted here. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/271921-bubsy-for-the-atari-5200/ Bubsy0 5200 R1.bin Bubsy0 5200 R2.bin Bubsy Manual.pdf Bubsy0 5200 R3-HS.bin
  8. This picture alone raises so many questions in the Bubsy story and wanted to other fan theories. The picture looks old, obviously a newspaper clipping. Was this an uncle of Bubsy or father? My guess is the father. In the Purrfect Edition Bubsy has the Indiana Jones look on the postcard. The Sean Connery looking bobcat in the picture would be his father if we go with the Indiana Jones theme. Any theories on this?
  9. So this time last year we had the speculation that Bubsy was in Sonic Forces. Where there is a will, there is a way. Thanks to Zerosp0nge there is a hack that replaces the Sanic shirts with all three variations of Bubsy's trademark shirt. Apparently in the story, at least according the early advertisements for the game, there would be a new friend and ally helping Sonic. Originally this new ally had an outline much like Bubsy. Once you slap a Bubsy shirt on this character it really does look a lot like the Bubster. Anyway, the pictures from the game are great. I loved how they had the yellow Atari Jaguar version as an option. I mean, why not? I think I want to get Sonic Forces now. Hmmm... which game systems is Sonic Forces on? According to wiki: "Sonic Forces. Sonic Forces is a platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. Produced in commemoration of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise's twenty-fifth anniversary, it was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in November 2017." Alright, I can have two Bubsy games on my PS4. Then again, not sure if this hack will work on all the versions, would need a little more tinkering. But LOVE IT!! The original entry of the shirt hack can be found here: https://gamebanana.com/skins/162767 Original link for this blog: http://atariage.com/forums/blog/234/entry-14738-sonic-forces-bubsy-shirt-mod/
  10. Been a fantastic day as you can imagine on Twitter. Soooo many people are chiming in on the official holiday started in 2011 (as I'll explain more in a moment) in a day when all Star Wars fans have some tongue and cheek fun with the phrase "May the Force Be With You" which is kinda of a "Drive Safe", or "God Bless" kind of phrase in the Star Wars Universe. So at some point someone started "May the Fourth Be With You", which was as first believed to be the original release date of Star Wars, which was honestly May 25, 1977. However that is more than fine as Disney is releasing a Star Wars story, Rogue One being last year's story released ... December 2016? Huh. Anyway, Solo, the Star Wars story of this year, will be released May 25th. I think this was to avoid conflicting with with Infinity War, but I like how this matches the original release date when it all started in 1977. Ironically I was off work this week and had forgotten about today being the fourth of May. I just happened to see after a recent cleaning of my room Bubsy sitting next to the Boba Fett helmet. And so unsupervised this happened... Later I found out it was "May the Fourth" so I added the title with the Facebook profile editor, and the rest is history. So we have others who have chimed in on this bizarre "holiday".. er... event? Our last Bubsy link before we go off the rails was Black Forest Games who programmed the Bubsy game last year: And now, in the true spirit of "What could possibly go wrong" the rest... Soooo many sports teams jumped on this... And other interesting advertising... Mark Hamill is a star who is a bit of a Star Wars nerd himself. With that let's take this back to where it all started... the fans.. And a fan that's out of this world... The Fourth Will be With You... till midnight tonight. -Doctor Clu
  11. Morning Bubsy fans, Cruiz'in twitter this morning I was happy to see that "Bubsy" (the person playing him at Accloade) was still making comments from time to time. This one cracked me up for starters... There is still Bubsy eyeballing the swag that Sonic gets, which sadly I feel his pain as I would like to see more Bubsy merchandise too. So he's still out there. Over all the reviews of Woolies Strike Back there were many that thought the twitter activity was brilliant so keep it up, just keep it up Accolade! Also on Twitter I had this fan picture sent to me: Like the Bubsy picture. And I guess that is me next to Bubsy? Looked like Animal from the Muppets at first. Then I remembered my current avatar for Twitter is my Bubsy character from the Atari 2600 hack I did last December "The Bubsy Holiday Special". The red cap on Bubsy was a fun difference. So.. ok on the picture. Hope everyone is doing well out there!
  12. Hey Bubsy fans, to continue to be the Bubsy 101 (as the Bubsy on Twitter called this place), I'm happy to another another Bubsy fan posting some cool Bubsy material. Blog is run by Lefty1430 and not bad. Can be found here.... http://atariage.com/forums/index.php?app=blog&module=post&section=post&do=showform&blogid=234 This probably describes it best: In tribute to your new blog I present "The Return of the Bobcat" fan soundtrack by Aizakku Horooee. I adore the track 13 minutes in. Carry on fellow Bubsy fan. We actually do exist.
  13. A lot of people think Bubsy started on Atari (really the SNES and then Genesis) so .... sure... why not! Here we have it folks... BUBSY : Kitt'N Kaboodle This fun hack of Fast Eddie was made possible by Hack-O-Matic 3 . The Woolies are at it again stealing Bubsy's stuff and this time they stole EVERYTHING and stored it on the planet Kaboodle!!! Bubsy will need to JUMP OVER the Woolies to get it all back. In the game you'll see (if I can figure out where the sprites are in the code I hope to change them to...) objects Bubsy needs to collect on based on items he collected in... Bubsy: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind. Bubsy 2 Bubsy Fractured Furry Tales Bubsy 3D Bubsy 3D: Bubsy Visits the James Turrell Respective And even the newest which came out recently that I'm enjoying... Bubsy: Woolies Strike Back. Released October 31st and still having fun with that game. As for this Commodore 64 fan release, you'll see this is definitely a work in progress. The characters are about 70% where I want them to be. Still haven't found where the prize sprites are mapped so that might not change. And there is the intro screen which I wanted to get some input from those reading this. So here is how the intro screen looks... And I have the gremlin, Presents, and Sirius all mapped out... So I've got some defined screen to play with. Part of me has considered working in some order this... So for example, I could have have ... Gremlin = "Kitt'N Kaboodle" splat. Sirius = Bubsy (being red/pink) Presents= ?? Or we can do... Gremlin = Exclamation point (Bubsy's symbol) Sirius = Kitt N/ Kaboodle W/ Presents = Bubsy ! So curious to see what you all think. Here is the romdisk image to try out: Bubsy-c64-32b7.p00.zip Here are other versions of this game that have been made: Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Atari 400/800 Commodore Vic 20 I'll admit, Fast Eddie was probably the best on the Commodore 64, so this should be interesting!
  14. We have a new Bubsy fan game being made! https://talic.itch.io/bubsy-in-a-pawtaform Click on the "Player 1" to start. Arrow keys for moving left and right. X is jump, Up with X is glide. And X with down arrow is for going down through platforms. Woolies can be hit with more variety from the front, and top, rather than just a few places on top. Nice change. This originally appeared on twitter on this entry.. https://twitter.com/new_on_itch/status/971295139409915906 Try it out, give the guy feedback! The world needs more of the Bubster! --------------------- A few other fun Bubsy this and that's on the interwebs... Bubsy faces ripped from Bubsy 3D This "disarming" picture of Bubsy found on Twitter... Also from twitter...
  15. Always good to hear from "Bubsy" on the Twitter feed. And always good to get another Bubsy picture/advertisement. My response: A nice tribute to the Winter Olympics! Also a good article of how Bubsy translated into Japanese: https://legendsoflocalization.com/how-they-translated-bubsy-into-japanese/
  16. Wow 2017 was one hell of a ride for Bubsy fans. A new release of a Bubsy game for the first time in the whole existence of the Bubsy Fan Blog (since 2008). And the twitter feed with none other than Bubsy chiming in, chats with "Bubsy", so much material there. Also the Bubsy fan group "Bubsy Nation" became a term! In the last year we saw a new speedrun milestone for Fractured Furry Tales of 36m 25s by KowalLazy. Congratulations KowalLazy!! In the last year the Bubsy Wiki was also launched with a number (that we will hopefully laugh at later looking back at this ) of 85 articles. Looking good! I'm glad to say the Bubsy Fan Blog has been asked to be a part of the wiki development. So as the twitter feed starts to quiet down, there was one last tweet from the Bubster: Hopefully we'll hear more from Bubsy in the future. Of Woolie's Strike Back I think above all people agreed this was a step in the right direction, the character has been re-introduced to people in a positive way, so time to keep this momentum going. Other news: Bubsy Nation T-Shirts available again on Amazon. Bubsy: Kitt'N Kaboodle has been released for the Vic 20. Bubsy-V20-R2.crt.zip Sometime ago when I started playing with the Atari Flashback Portable I joked about hacking Fast Eddie into a Bubsy game so I could have a Bubsy game to play on the go for the Atari 2600. That version turned out great, and it's been fun hacking the Atari computer roms (800/5200) and now the Vic 20. Just as Bubsy is fairly infamous for video game mascots, it has been fun getting the Bubster on older platforms. A respectful tribute of the character, and all the time giving a nod to the current Bubsy game to give some free press. Some have asked if I will sell cartridges of all these hacks. What I think would be hilarious is if Accolade was able to publish a limited release of these hacks through Atariage and have them officially added to the Bubsy mythology. Just sayin'. BUBSY... OFFICAILLY RELEASE FOR THE ATARI 2600 and Vic 20 just 37 years after their hayday. (Wow.. Fast Eddie (original game hacked is 36 years old as of 2018?) Of course while I am perfectly fine (for the sake of Bubsy fandom and the irony of it all) to publish my fan hacks (just send me a copy and we'll call it squares) there is Sirius Software who originally wrote Fast Eddie. So there is that to be worked out. At some point I really would like to hack the Fast Eddie for the Commodore 64. That is an amazing version of which Hack-O-Matic (that I used to hack the other four versions) sees nothing but gibberish. So hopefully time and input from the gaming community will reveal a solution for that in time. In the meantime, the Bubsy Fan Blog has given a quick view of the Woolies Strike Back, and the other parts should be made soon.. Talk more soon!
  17. This fun hack of Fast Eddie was made possible by Hack-O-Matic 3. The Woolies are at it again stealing Bubsy's stuff and this time they stole EVERYTHING and stored it on the planet Kaboodle!!! Bubsy will need to JUMP OVER the Woolies to get it all back. In the game you'll see objects Bubsy needs to collect on based on items he collected in... I started working on a hack of this for the Vic 20. Extremely rough and the animations for that worked a bit differently than they did the 2600/5200/800 versions. Was discouraged with it for a bit, but then I read this from a Vic 20 gamer... From TheTick1: "I played Fast Eddie on my Vic20 back in the early 80's. I may have to mess with the builtin ML monitor on VICE and work on a similar Bubsy for my good 'ole Vic20. Would be awesome to see Bubsy running on my early 80's Vic20 hardware." Figured that was enough reason to get something going for people to try out. And as much as I love the Atari 2600 version of the hack I had to remember that I didn't have the colors changed on the early revision either. So there is some touching up to do, the colors, the order of the prizes, some of the character spirits. And if someone wants to take a crack at the color changes, drop me a PM and I'll tell you where I believe the color options are based on the other Fast Eddie's I've hacked. Here is the Video gameplay: And here is the rom: Bubsy-V20-R1.crt.zip
  18. Finally the review you've all been waiting for: the review of Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back by Bubsy fans for Bubsy fans! How does this new game compare to previous Bubsy games, how does it rank (by the reviewer's humble opinion), and what are the challenges faced in collecting all the items/yarnballs? Talks about the levels between the tutorial and the first boss level. Watch it here...
  19. Hey Bubsy Fans! So I was cruising around the interwebs looking for the quotes from the Woolies Strike Back, which I finally defeated the last boss yesterday, and found a Bubsy Bobcat Wiki page! http://bubsy.wikia.com/wiki/Bubsy_Bobcat_Wiki Looks like it got started in July back when the news of the new Bubsy game really started to hit the presses. They have about 66 articles, so off to a great start, and I've been having fun filling in some gaps that the Bubsy Fan Blog has picked up over the years. In the end, I think the wiki will be a great go to on quick knowledge for the Bubster, and you can always have fun here as we give the Bubsy opinions and reactions to Bubsy fandom. So like Ford Prefect of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I am having fun writing for the Hitchhiker's Guide to Bubsy.. or as they call it, the Bubsy Bobcat Wiki. See you there Bubsy fans! -Doctor Clu
  20. Well Bubsy fans we are literally five days until Christmas and what have we done? Well.. a lot. A new Bubsy game for Steam and Playstation 4 and lots of fan activity. Yeh it's been a fun year Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! ----------------------------------- And a quick word from Bubsy... https://t.co/TkEWnv02DK
  21. If you wanted to see Bubsy on a Atari system other than the Jaguar, now's your chance to play it online! http://www.virtualatari.org/soft.php?soft=Bubsy Enjoy! -Doctor Clu
  22. With five days left on the guess the arcade game contest that the Bubsy Bobcat Fan Blog is hosting, Bubsy on the twitter feed sends out his wish for a HAPPY THANKSGIVING... I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving as well. My second favorite holiday! -Doctor Clu
  23. Contest: First person to PM me a message with the correct name of the arcade machine photo altered in the picture below wins the Humble Bumble deal on Steam (Bubsy: Woolies Strike Back and Bubsy Two Fur) or $20. Just had some fun photo editing which turned into a contest.
