  1. I just ran across this on Twitter, a new DIY ColecoVision RGB board by Citrus3000psi. Still in prototyping phase but will hopefully be coming out soon, after some more testing. This might be a nice alternative to the F18A for DIY'ers. Check out @citrus3000psis Tweet: https://twitter.com/citrus3000psi/status/953443909501444096?s=01 Now if someone would come out with a better Intellivision RGB board, I'd be on cloud 9!
  2. Sydney Hunter & The Caverns of Death is coming for the ColecoVision! Sydney must navigate dark caverns while avoiding bats, ghosts, hot lava and other obstacles. If you can survive all 10 caverns, you will be able to win your freedom! Here's some screenshots of the work in progress
  3. Just want to gauge the interests about the Coleco / ColecoVision (ADAM) History Book The book is first going to be available as hard copy Then later will become available as Ebook Are you interested by this book? Also, feel free to post questions, suggestions, comments and critics
  4. Got this very cool Pac-Man Arcade Figure by Coleco in excellent condition and an unexpected bonus item!
  5. Hi, Burning Disc is not dead. Final name about my Winjammers project for Colecovision is Wind Edge. Link to Wind Edge Completed : - Entirely playable - Six functinals courts - Efficient AI about moves - Specials attacks working - Include sounds - Operational two player mode To do list : - Fix a lot of glitches (especially in one player mode) - Add more gfx - Improve AI about attacks and opponent behavior (too efficient about the latter) - Add more music and sfx - Optimize code
  6. I was lurking the web and stumbled onto an old game system that is very rare and little known about: The VTech CreatiVision. I am posting here about this because this system was released before the ColecoVision and has very similar hardware (same Texas Instruments video & audio chips). The ColecoVision even looks a bit like the CreatiVision. I had assumed that Coleco was being completely original with their hardware and design (and that maybe Sega somewhat "copied" Coleco with their SG-1000), but now I think otherwise... The VTech CreatiVision was released in 1981 in Hong Kong, one year before the ColecoVision's release date. The Sega SG-1000 was released a year after the ColecoVision, in 1983. All 3 consoles use the same video and audio chips. There is little known about this console-computer system. There were a couple old threads, but I wanted to make a new one here. Some info on the CreatiVision: http://www.classic-consoles-center.at/creativision http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTech_CreatiVision Even the games on this system (many released in 1981) look and sound like early ColecoVision games: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fxxfdZqSpQ&feature=endscreen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmKKj8Cyy5k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur0GA1hTiiU Do you think Coleco knew about this console from VTech before they started development themselves? What about Sega and their SG-1000? In any event, I'd like to get my hands on a CreatiVision and a SG-1000 someday. Discuss
  7. Hello friends, I've got a new project that I'm going to be working on and I wanted to get the word out. I am a big fan of the arcade game Gauntlet: ...and who wouldn't be, its big, its beautiful, and its fun for up to 4 players! Hands down, the single best port of this arcade classic is Tengen's Gauntlet IV for the SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive: With a title like Gauntlet IV, one would assume that this is a sequel of some sort, which could never be as good as the original, but that's where you're wrong. Gauntlet IV has 4 modes of play, 1 being a pixel-perfect port of the arcade classic (including 4-player support), then a few other variants with some cool RPG and battle elements. As I recently picked up a MIB complete copy of this game (replacing my previous cartridge only version), I started playing it again, and realized that a Genesis control pad just doesn't do it justice. So with my new found skills at creating arcade-like controllers I had the idea of creating a proper joystick controller to further my enjoyment of this game. After a bit of research regarding the original controls hardware used in the arcade cabinets, I realized that the linchpin to this endeavor would be to source an original Atari logo'ed ball-knob, 8-way leafswitch joystick, like this one (most of these pics "borrowed" from the internet): So for a little while now I've been on the hunt for one of these little beauties on ebay and over at the Arcade Forums. There were a few variants of this general/similar style of stick by Atari, including analog/digital, leafswitch/microswitch, and 4-way/8-way, but I need a very specific model, only used in a handful of Atari arcade games. Most of those on ebay are of the the wrong type (in 1 way or another), beat up pretty bad, or just really high priced. But last night, I was finally able to strike a deal for exactly what I was looking for, the only caveat being, was that the seller was selling a set of (4) of these controllers, not the "single one" that I needed. But we worked out a "decent" per-stick price for the overall package, so now I am patiently waiting for my (4) slightly used Atari logo'ed ball-knob, 8-way leafswitch joysticks. I will basically have 3 options of what to do with the extra 3 joysticks: 1) resell the unneeded 3 joysticks as arcade replacement parts 2) create and keep 4 Gauntlet Edition - VVG Experience Controllers 3) create 4, and sell 2 or 3 Gauntlet Edition - VVG Experience Controllers If I had 3 local friends that played video games with any regularity/proficiency, I would consider option 2, but that's not the case for me unfortunately (my friends suck). If there is interest from anybody here for such a creation (besides me obviously), some combination of options 3 & 1 are possible. If no one has any interest, then option 1 is my best bet. With all that being said, this will basically end up being built as a SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive 3-button arcade stick, with the arcade-correct Gauntlet joystick and pushbuttons. So why would I ever post this here, for this reason: Team Pixelboy's published, MSX conversion of Gauntlet for the ColecoVision, so it technically falls into the ColecoVision realm! Fortunately this port doesn't require the keypad, and with a little bit of wiring trickery by me, I will be able to make what will be a 3-button SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive controller, also work as a 2-button ColecoVision controller for this fine port. And obviously while this controller will be able to be used for any system and/or game that can make use of a SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive 3-button controller, I'm touting that this will be the ultimate controller for the following Gauntlet-esque games: Dandy - the original that started it all as an Atari Program Exchange game, which inspired the Gauntlet arcade franchise: available on: Atari 8-Bit / Commodore 64 / Amstrad CPC Dark Chambers - Atari's "commercial" release of Dandy: available on: Atari 2600 / 8-Bit / 7800 Gauntlet - home port: available on: Amstrad CPC / Atari ST / Commodore 64 / SEGA Master System / ColecoVision Gauntlet II - home port: available on: Amstrad CPC / Atari ST / Commodore 64 Gauntlet III - home game: available on: Amstrad CPC / Atari ST / Commodore 64 Gauntlet IV - home port/game available on: SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive (as noted above) Additionally I believe that it may be possible to to allow this controller to also work with the Nintendo NES ports of Gauntlet and Gauntlet II as well (in addition to all NES games), more info on this to come. So while right now I have no fabulous pictures of a completed example to show off, I'm just looking to see if there is any interest, from anybody here for such a controller. No matter what anybody else thinks/feels regarding this project, I will be building 1 for myself. The main reason I bring this up here, is mainly due to the fact that I had to purchase 4 of the Atari joysticks, to get the 1 that I needed/wanted. As they are fairly expensive and hard to come by, I would hate to re-sell all 3 joysticks, then have one or more people speak up asking to buy this controller (that I wouldn't be able to build). On the other hand if there is no interest here at all for such a thing, I would probably list the joysticks for sale sooner-than-later to recoup their cost. At this point I don't have a firm selling price, or time-frame. I can only estimate that the finished Gauntlet Edition - VVG Experience Contollers would sell for somewhere in the $300-$400 range, and could be ready as soon as late January, or after. So again, I don't need any sort of "firm commitment" or "down-payment" money at this time (and obviously final decision to purchase would be after the 1st one is built so that you could see what it will be like), I'm just checking to see if knowing all of this info, if there is any interest. As I deal with ColecoVision hardware more than anything else, and there is a ColecoVision port of Gauntlet, I thought I would offer the "idea" of these here first before checking Sega/Atari collectors for their interest. Last note, due to the limited availability of the vintage Atari Joysticks, I can't say that any more than these potential 4 could/would ever be made. If a group of buyers "speak" up with interest in this project, and all agreed they would like to see these limited to only 4 total examples ever built, I'd be fine with that too. So just a little food for thought, and I look forward to any thought/comments/feedback. Thanks.
  8. Following up on another thread that discussed having a complete collection and inspired by Cmart's 125 Game List thread in the Intellivision Forum, I have decided to list things out in more detail. This list of 135 is unique titles and does not take into account release variations such as those made by Coleco of Canada Limitee and CBS Electronics, although there is an Addendum to the list at the end which covers some other unique games for the CV & ADAM. I have finally decided to include the Bit Corp. titles in this list seeing as they were produced during the ColecoVision's lifespan as well as being made available in CIB form and sold in stores. The addendum contains some unreleased and prototype games, but by far, not all. You can check my Collector's List attached below for complete listings of these. 9. I read about this but only a brief description. Walters software Is there such a thing? How far did it go? If so why not expand this into the new ADAM OSX? Anyone want to fill in the blanks.
  10. I'm looking for someone to do some repair work on a 1977/78 TRS-80 Model 1 (Level 1) and a Coleco Adam. The TRS-80 needs a key replaced (I have a spare keyboard to pull parts from) and has an issue with the video sync (I think). The Coleco Adam is having some power issues, but I think it's coming from the console itself as it won't power on when one or both of the cassette drives are plugged in, but the power light comes on when they're disconnected. It also has no video, as far as I can tell. I'm more flexible with the TRS-80, since I already have the motherboard removed from the cabinet and could easily ship that, but I'm hoping to find someone who already owns an Adam so I can ship just the console with the data drives installed. I do have a spare printer motherboard I could send as well if needed, though, but it would be more expensive. Anyway, if this sounds like something you could do, let me know and we can discuss pricing. Thanks!
  11. Hello all, long time reader, first time poster on the forums. I recently picked up a junk Coleco Telstar Combat system made in ‘77 for a couple dollars. It was pretty roached, but it’s a rather obscure system so I couldn’t pass it up. However, after getting it all cleaned up, I plugged it to my TV to test it out, but all I got was static and no signal. I tried many times turning the system off and on but mostly no signal would appear at all. Sometime a staticky signal would fade in and out, but it was very inconsistent. Once, I even got a vague image of the actually game screen to appear for a few seconds. I’m fairly confident that the video cable coming from the system itself is not the issue and I have it hooked up to a known working RF switch that works well with my Atari 2600. So, I opened the system back up, removed the RF shield, and began to adjust the RF inductors (I’m using a modern tv). ( I attached pics for reference) There appears to be 2 RF inductor adjustments under the shield, and a screw adjustment at the top right corner of the board. I started adjusting the orange (bottom) inductor but that only caused the video to go from no signal, to staticky image, back to no signal. So I tried to adjust the white (top) RF inductor, but it wouldn’t budge. Upon further inspection, I saw the slot inside this inductor had several cracks. I desoldered the inductor from the board to examine it further, but couldn’t get it to budge. After resoldering it back on, I still have the same issue, however, the static signal seems to become more and more scarce, leaving me with no signal as I fiddle more and more with the inductors. I also tried adjusting the screw adjuster to no avail, but I’m not really sure which RF adjusters I should/need to adjust. Would the cracking in the inductor be enough to inhibit the video signal completely? Is there anything else that could be causing this issue besides the inductors? I have a rather limited knowledge on electronics as I have only been attempting retro repairs for about a year and a half, so any new nuggets of knowledge are greatly appreciated! This is a really neat and rare system that I would like to have working in my collection. Feel free to ask questions if something isn’t clear. Thanks in advance! (Note: I have the same problem regardless if I’m using batteries or the power supply).
  12. I tried searching for this topic, but I couldn’t find it. If it already exists, sorry about that! Please let me know the link, then, as I’ve had trouble finding results that were helpful to me. I’m new to the Adam, and I took a chance on a cheap auction that has no printer. I’ve seen vague references to other options, but I couldn’t find many details. For new folks and non-technical folks, can we have a list of all the known alternatives for power supplies other than the giant printer that wipes tapes when it’s turned on? I’ve heard it’s possible to make one, but how does a newbie go about doing that? Detailed info on any alternatives would be great! I can update this top post with all the different suggestions so it’s easy for new folks to find. Thanks for your help, everyone!
  13. I recently purchased this item at a flea market. It's a cassette port of Donkey Kong for the Coleco Adam that appears to have been released in 1984. It comes packaged in a cardboard box designed to look like the original arcade cabinet of the game. After purchasing the item, I tried to do some research on it. It was one of three arcade games that were given ports to the Adam with boxes designed after the original arcade cabinets. I only found a few pictures of the box on Google and found no current or completed listings of the game on eBay. The closest thing I found on eBay was a Zaxxon game in the cabinet-style box the was listed for about $500. I wanted to see if anybody knew about the history of the game or how much it is worth.
  14. I had some Coleco Gemini Controllers included when I bought some games off a kijiji ad and when I bought a system. My problem: I opened them and cleaned them and there was black gunk all over the connectors. I first ran it through stella with the 2600 daptor 2 and it was funny. The dial moved the ship in defender and the stick when I pushed up would shoot but when I had the case off it would work no problem. I tried ms pac man on a 2600 and it worked the button worked and the joystick worked (with the case on). When I tried it on breakout the dial worked but I had to press up on the joystick to shoot the ball (This was also on a 2600). Now what I think it is I used too much rubbing alcohol and took something out of the board but I just want to fix and remedy it. There was possibly some black gunk that was supposed to be there possibly? HELP!
  15. Approaching my 35th year collecting colecovision I decided it's about time I shared my collection for my favorite console! Hopefully I can add more specific item pics in the future too. Back last thanksgiving I built custom shelves to display my nearly complete pre Nintendo USA based console game collection. It holds over 1200 boxed games. This is the colecovision section holding my complete cib collection of the original 140 released games, plus a few variants. And this last week I built some more generic shelves to hold my coleco hardware. I call it the wall of coleco. just about everything fit on except my telstar arcade that was slightly too tall which is now just to the left of the main wall and a couple astrocades took it's planned spot. Also my Dina 2in1 is not up there yet. Maybe something else too.....can't think what else there is?? I know I need 3 more telstar systems to have all 14 of those. The cib colecovision system is the one I got for christmas in the early 80s! Well hope you enjoy!
  16. Looking for a Working/Tested/Great condition/Clean Colecovision system with at least on controller (2 preferably), power supply. Doesn't have to come with original box. AV Modded is a plus, but not required. Included games are good, but not needed as I plan to grab a flash cart. PM me if you have one available! I'm in Denver, CO, 80205. Thanks, ISB
  17. Hey all, As we know, when the Intellivision II was designed, Mattel implemented the stricter copyright routine so third-party games, namely Coleco, (and Mattel's own Word Fun) wouldn't work on the new console. It seems like everyone eventually figured out how to get around this, by many already-released games were incompatible. As far as I'm aware, Coleco never re-released their games in the US market with updated code to get around the Inty II copyright check. However, I've read that some versions of the European CBS Electronics release of Coleco's games have updated code and (in theory) should run on an Inty II. The real question is - would you want to? Coleco is somewhat notorious for intentionally gimping their Inty ports to make the ColecoVision look better. In my case, however, Venture is one of my favorite Intellivision games after the AD&Ds! So I decided to order a CBS copy of Venture and got it working. It could just be my imagination, but the CBS version seems to run noticeably smoother than the US-market Coleco version (on the Inty I of course). How-To: Pictures 1 & 2 - Obtain the "Green Dragon w/ White Lines" box version of Venture. The are at least two other CBS box versions; I'm not sure if they all contain Intellivision II compatible code. Pictures 3 & 4 - Great! You have a Venture cartridge that has the right code to work in an Inty II. Only one problem - the cartridge doesn't fit in the console! There are three "chines" above the PCB contacts which prevent insertion into the US-market Intellivision II. Unscrew the two screws on the back of the cart. Picture 5 - The other half of the cart is normal and should fit in any Intellivision. No work needed here. Picture 6 - Break off (ouch! sorry) the three chines with some needle-nose pliers (etc) and sand/file down the remaining nubs. Picture 7 - Reassemble the cartridge (was it really that easy?). Picture 8 - Not quite! Now that you've filed down the chines, the cartridge actually goes too far into the Intellivision II. So when you insert it, insert it about 5mm short of the hard stop. Do that, and you're playing Venture on an Intellivision II!

  20. This Colecovision/Adam keyboard was part of a Commodore lot I bought a few months ago. It's missing a few keys, a bit of yellowing but otherwise feels solid and in good shape. I have no way of testing it as I don't have a Coleco system nor do I have the cable to connect it. Free or Trade, just pay shipping (US only) as I know someone can use this either for parts or a cleanup/restore project. PM me if interested and we can discuss the cost to ship, etc. Cheers, ISB
  21. Aside from displaying the ColecoVision logo, what does the system ROM do?
  22. Hello everyone, Hoping someone with experience with the Coleco Telstar Arcade can help out. I purchased this and plugged it in. Started off with black and white color, tv noise, jittery paddles, and internal speaker hum. I dont have any experience with these. I adjusted the rf modulator fine tune coil and got the color and picture working fine, but still trying to figure out the tv static noise and the internal speaker hum. Is the speaker hum normal? Also, any ideas as to how to get the audio working on the tv without the static? I turn it on and its static free for about 3 seconds, then it starts. Anyone ever repair one of these things? Anywhere I can find schematics? Thanks everyone. DA43978F-429B-46E4-A244-787403FF759D.MOV
