I bought an Atari 2600 from a yard sale with a buncha games for about 20 bucks. When I hooked it up to my TV, the screen was all black except for red and blue vertical lines on either side of the screen. If I kept restarting the console I could sometimes get vertical bars with several different colors and a humming noise. I replaced the RIOT chip with one I ordered from eBay that claimed to be working hoping that would fix it but i got the same results. The RIOT chip will heat up the longer the console is on and eventually get so hot it's uncomfortable to touch. Any ideas on what to do?

Very recently, a fascinating listing came up for what *appears* to be a French, boxed heavy sixer at just 110 dollars. The seller isn't willing to take the console out of the box again to take more pictures so I need help with identification, is this indeed a heavy sixer? If so, then I'm **absolutely** going to buy this, I've never had the 2600 box before, or a heavy sixer, so this would be a real treat for me. Help is massively appreciated, thanks!

Hello there, TL;DR any help on Intellivision flashback controller to Intellivision I pinouts? 1) successfully made an Intellivision flashback to Intellivision ii adapter via posts like this: 2) Tried to make it to a similar pinout but with a DuPont connector header via this mapping: https://arcarc.xmission.com/Web Archives/Deathskull (May-2006)/games/tech/intvcont.html 3) no luck, I get a bunch of buttons and some trigger side buttons but no wheel. 4) anyone have guidance? I have duponts on the cable so I am correct the mapping if I am missing something. if anyone has an existing Intellivision I to Intellivision flashback adapter and could take a multimeter to them and tell me the pinout that would be sooo cool of you. tried to buy one but the OP of these hasn’t replied. No worries though figured I’d try my hand at trying to get better with soldering/learning electronics. any help you could provide would be sooooo appreciated, thanks !

Hi, I have a issue with my atari 2600. The problem is the image. I Don't know why and how but graphics are much darkers and différents since yesterday after playing galagon homebrew. - No, the problem is not the tv, i try two diiferents tv and i have the same problem. - I have the black vader Atari 2600 version - i never seen the problem since i buy the atari ( 5 years ago) - somebody already saw this problem ? how can i fix that ( i'm not a pro technician) - Check the pics below to see the problem i'm desparate. thank to answer me

I got Atari Dev Studio up, but honestly I dont know where to start with ideas, and I dont know how to get started coding! I'm utterly lost! Help?!

Can the Power supply I have pictured work with my Intellivision 2 console? When I power the console on with the biggest sleeved adapter all I get is snow and lines. When I wiggle the adapter the console shuts off. I set the adapter to 12v and positive polarity. I also cleaned the games I was using. The consoles is hooked up to the television with a Atari 7800 cable going into a coax adapter on my tv.

When I go to the main rarity pages of any console that isn't the 2600, it still shows the text and pics for the 2600 rarity main page. In addition, Some game profiles lead to the 404 page, such as the unreleased shooting arcade for the 2600. Also some pieces of hardware have pictures missing even when a year or 2 ago they had them just fine.

Please help me on this. For some reason, I am unable to make a status update or even type a reply to an existing one. Whenever I click the reply button, I get sent to my profile page after a few seconds. I can still react via the emotes button, but nothing more. What could be the culprit? Pic related, its the drop-down "create" bar with no status option.

I went to hook up an NES the other day for my Punch-Out fix, and made the sad realization that I somehow sold/gifted/swapped ALL of my peripherals! lol I just need something for regular use, maybe a couple different ones would be neat. Plenty to trade, PayPal as well. Thanks!

Today I picked up a very nice Atari Video Pinball cab, but it has one issue: The plunger doesn't work. All the other controls work and I can get into a game, but it won't respond to the plunger being pulled and released. I knew this when I got the game and the previous owner said he got voltage at the plunger connector and the fact the rest of the controls work leads me to think the optical sensor is kaput. Is there a fix or replacement for this part? Other than that, it is a really nice machine and I am really wanting to play it! Thanks!

Where is the list of the contents of all of Gazoo's Games Cartridges? We're getting so many goodies here I can't keep track of them all.

OK Ive just got my Micro-Time ST, I don't seem to have the manual for it, can anyone help? I do have the disk but I haven't looked at it yet.

I got a 2nd 400 from my uncle. It booted to a black screen. I pried out chips - the whole way in most cases but only part way for some and not at all for a few rather daunting ones. It seems he hacked together a RAM upgrade with some toggle switches to make different blocks of RAM visible if he wanted to play a pirated cartridge or something - lots of wires and stacked chips. Anyway, no change with re-seating I disassembled the working 400 and swapped boards from the non-working unit to the working unit (which he had also hacked - 48k and composite out). The power board checked out. The CPU board had different chip placement so I had to test it outside of the aluminum housing - it went to Memo pad but the screen rolled. I switched back to the working CPU board just to check and my working unit seemed fine - no roll, nothing amiss at all. Finally, swapped the RAM board from the non-working unit to the working unit and got a brown screen. I thought, "Aha!" I put the RAM board from the working unit into the non-working unit, and played with the toggle switches (they are unmarked, of course), and got to a blue screen that said "READY" and showed a prompt. Playing with the switches a little more, I got a cartridge to work. Satisfied that I had somewhat of a lead, I put everything back together they way it was before I started. My non-working unit still showed up black. But now my working unit showed only the brown screen (on both composite and RF). Ugh! Any ideas what I did to this poor thing?

I have a modded Xbox that I got off a member a few years back. It has a bunch of stuff on it I don't really need or want (copies of sports games, console emulators, and whatnot), so I was thinking about zapping all of that and putting Coinops on it but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I'm also not 100% sure what mods the Xbox has on it, but I'm fairly sure it has a larger hard drive (from the amount of stuff already on it) and is running the original 'Blades' dashboard. Anyone have a guide for installing CoinOps (the newest version) and tips on what dashboard I should be using? I have access to a PC with Windows 7 and Ubuntu, but I also have a OS X laptop and an XP laptop.

I just got my hands on a MSX flash cart (Megaflashrom SCC+ SD), but I'm a little confused as to how to actually set it up. The included instructions are a bit cryptic, but what I really want to do is put all the roms into what the instructions call a MULTIROM (basically a menu). Has anyone done this and can you tell me how?

I finally found my Nintendo 64! so I plugged it in and got everything together. I turned on the system then the tv. I turned it to the av channel and.......nothing. all there was was a black screen! so I tried turning it off and back on. the screen flashed for a second then nothing. I did everything correct I put the cartridge in before starting the system. could it be the av cable?

So I got a nano PEB and the TI Gamebase but I have not been able locate working disk versions of most of the cartridge games. Out of the few I do have many require EA which I do not have and although I have a copy of YLOAD I have not been able to use it successfully. I downloaded 2 compilation disks of the Atari Soft games from: ftp://ftp.whtech.com/ which have a loader for XB but when they load I have one option and one option only on the menu screen "1 terminate" (a Dalek must've written the loader). Can anyone help me figure out YLOAD and could someone please send me or point me to verified working disk versions of the carts, please? If I can't figure out YLOAD is there another tool or maybe just somehow I can get all software in XB? my email is my forum name at yahoo (yell0w with a zero for the O and an underscore between the words.)

In recently playing games like Contra and Gunforce for the SNES, I began wondering to myself, "What other titles in a similar vein are available on the system?" I know the Genesis has quite a few run 'n guns, as well as lots of arcadey, linear action-platformers that primarily revolve around shooting. I'd like to finally make an effort to find out what else is available for the SNES, then look into acquiring the carts if possible. What I am looking for is anything that's straight run 'n gun, like Contra, Gunforce, etc., but also, action-platformers that focus heavily (hopefully primarily) on shooting. These must be linear for the most part though, as my least favorite kind of 2D platformer is of the sprawling, non-linear kind, like Daffy Duck in the Marvin Missions (blech). **Edit 2/10: Here's what I know of so far and what has been mentioned in this thread already, as well as what has been posted in the same thread over at NintendoAge. I have also attempted brief categorizations, so if you are interested in checking them out, you will hopefully know what you are getting into: THE OBLIGATORY ARCADE-LIKE RUN 'N GUNS (i.e., straight from point A to point B, no exploring whatsoever) Contra III: The Alien Wars - Self-explanatory Gunforce - Like Contra, but slower/more floaty. Port of the arcade game (a somewhat shoddy one, but still). .....ones that may or may not fit this bill to a "T": Super Turrican - Mostly straight-foward, arcade-like action. Some levels are large and explorative though. Super Turrican 2 - Like the above, but I believe it's more linear (could be wrong, been a long time since I played it) Rendering Ranger R2 - Super Famicom only; like Turrican in many ways. Mutant Chronicles: Doom Troopers - Pre-rendered visuals, mostly linear point-a-to-point-b gameplay with some sketchy platforming. The Terminator - Straight-forward gameplay from what I can tell (although I only watched a video of the first level). Looks fairly run-of-the-mill. THE OBLIGATORY ARCADE-LIKE [sort-of] RUN 'N GUNS (that don't have "guns") (straight from point A to point B, no exploring whatsoever) Super Adventure Island - Action-platforming set in a linear, arcade-like manner. Rather than shooting guns, you toss boomerangs and stone axes. Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts - Like the above, the entire game revolves around tossing various kinds of weapons. Joe 'n Mac - Along the same line as Adventure Island. Two-players at the same time! PLATFORMERS THAT ARE "SHOOTY" BUT FOCUS ON EXPANSIVE LEVEL DESIGN: (i.e., large stages; may or may not have puzzles, key collecting and other gimmicks as well) Robocop Versus Terminator - Large characters; game revolves around blasting the shit out of things (in an awesome way mind you). Levels can be fairly large and can sometimes be traversed multiple ways if I remember correctly. Phantom 2040 - Seems pretty linear at parts, but has some kind of rope gimmick and the stages look like they can become larger than just a "point A to point B" kind of scenario. Realm - Large stages, but a heavy emphasis on shooting (unfortunately, ammo is limited. bah!). I've only played one level in this, so i can't vouch for the rest of the game. Demolition Man - Very action-oriented (and pretty cool at that). Levels are fairly large if I remember correctly and there is a large emphasis on platforming along with shooting and knocking the crap out of everything. Metal Warriors - Shooty and action oriented, but the levels are very maze-like. You control a mech and can get out and walk as a tiny dude. Judge Dredd - Attacking is primarily done by shooting, and there are quite a few different attacks. Big, expansive levels that require a lot of item collecting. Jurassic Park 2 - Very, very maze-like (some will likely say, "not in a good way!"). Lots of shooting, though. B.O.B. - Large stages. Reminds me of Turrican a tiny bit. Sort of. Time Slip - Reminds me of Contra in the way you aim diagonally and duck. It looks like the levels may be large though and there are items to collect (only watched a few seconds of a video snippet. Will have to try it out later). Super Star Wars series - Mostly (really difficult) action-oriented shooting, but these games tend to add sword play, jedi powers, and flight scenes into the mix. Daffy Duck in the Marvin Missions - Blech. Don't get me started on this one. OFFBEAT ONES THAT ARE HARD TO CLASSIFY (but have a lot of shooting): Jim Power: The Lost Dimension in 3D - Action-platforming revolving around shooting; Even though shooting is the way you attack, I think it is really secondary to the platforming though, which is set in a rigid, extremely-difficult, Shadow of the Beast-like manner. Sunset Riders - Walk 'n gunner (like that one? ). Based on the arcade game. Joe 'n Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics - It's similar to the first game, but revolves mostly around hand-to-hand combat (why did they decide to do this? ugh). There are projectiles, yes, but nothing like in the original. Also, somewhat non-linear with weird things like talking to people being a requirement. Metal Morph - Who's grand idea was it to release this game as-is? Ugh. Great Battle IV - Import game; Shooty and arcade-like, but seems slow. Plok - Platformer that revolves around tossing out your limbs in a shooting kind of manner. Xardion - Shooting is your main form of attack, but this game is soooo slooooow. Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 - Yeah, there's shooting, but the game's meat is the platforming. Dream T.V. - A platformer that revolves around exploration, but the primary attacks come in the form of projectiles. Magic Boy - A cutesy platformer where shooting is your primary attack (still have to bag and dump enemies after though). Warlock - Action-platformer based on what I am assuming was a relatively unpopular movie. There are two kinds of primary attacks, but you will mainly be using your shooting-themed one for the majority of the game. If you give this one a go, do so on the Genesis version, it plays much smoother and you can ironically shoot faster. Mega Man X series/Mega Man 7 - Naturally shooty in nature, but a very heavy emphasis on platforming. OTHER GAMES THAT ARE SHOOTY, BUT NOT WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR: Super Smash T.V. - Port of the arcade game. Top-down, twin-stick styled shooter. Pure awesomeness (even if it's hard as nails)! Total Carnage - The spiritual successor of the above. Top-down, twin-stick styled shooter. Not nearly as awesome as Smash T.V. (IMO), but still pretty good. Operation Logic Bomb - Top-down. Not very fast paced at all if I remember correctly. Pocky and Rocky - Like a shmup, but not! Top-down, shoot in any direction. Very difficult game, but lots of fun, if I remember correctly. Pocky and Rocky 2 - Like the above, naturally. Zombies Ate My Neighbors - There's projectile-tossing, but this is mostly a fetch-quest kind of game. And an awesome one, at that. Ghoul Patrol - Like the above. People say it's not as good though. I haven't played it so I can't vouch. -Gradiu.... ahh, naaah, I'm not listing any straight-up shmups here.
