In the Atari 2600 game My Golf (HES, 1990), for each shot, the game tells you the distance to the hole and then asks you to choose your club. But, nowhere in the game or in the game instructions (see link) does it provide a table showing the distances of each club. (It might say the hole is 205 yards away. And you're like, okay, thanks, so which club should I use?) Well, so I made this little table. In the game, I just "stood" at the the first hole and recorded the max distance I could get with each club. These are max yards. Meaning, with the power meter at full power. (I slowed the emulation speed down in Stella so I could press the button at almost the exact moment.) Club.......Max Distance (Yards) 1 wood 253 2 wood 224 3 wood 216 4 wood 205 5 wood 190 1 iron 198 2 iron 188 3 iron 183 4 iron 171 5 iron 159 6 iron 147 7 iron 136 8 iron 125 9 iron 109 Pitching Wedge 91 Sand Wedge 80 Putter 60 I'd be happy if anyone out there would like to share feedback about my little table and/or offer improvements to it. And I realize there are some pretty smart people out there who read these forums. It's no big deal. Just wanted to share. So if you print out this little table and keep it near you the next time you play My Golf, I hope it makes it easier for you to choose your clubs. BTW I'm very fond of My Golf and also original Atari Golf and I like them both in different ways.

Or, Atari PAL Log: My Experiences Playing PAL Games On My NTSC Atari #1 Kind of a long title for an on-going series, so I shortened it a tad bit. I know that I can't possibly be the only one living in an NTSC country collecting PAL releases for their Atari, so I thought that I'd share my experiences with these games. Oh, I've only begun to collect PAL games for Atari platforms to be sure, but I figured that this would be a great time to start covering these releases. I've certainly got a long history of collecting PAL games for my NTSC Sega Master System though, but the list of PAL games that I own for the SMS is extensive and, well, where would I begin? I'll be doing a new log whenever I have a new batch of PAL releases to discuss. I'm already aware of some of the technical issues that I'm liable to experience, as I worked as a Television Broadcast Engineer for 25 years. Test Machine Atari 7800 ProSystem; NTSC I have the RF output connected to a Coaxial (F-Type) to Female Adapter, which is connected to the RF Coaxial Input of an old VHS VCR. I am feeding the Composite Output of the VCR to a Composite Switcher, which is connected to an HD Flat-screen TV. No Upscale device is currently being used, although I do own one. PAL GAME #1 2-Pak Special: Planet Patrol / Wall Defender Publisher HES Country of Origin Australia Rarity Rating Undetermined I bought this cartridge on eBay from a seller in Germany for $11.26 + $5.64 (S & H) = $16.90. Cartridge only. HES released several (10 I believe) of these 2-Pak Specials. The label for this release is blue with nothing to identify the publisher. No Catalog or Part number either. It does feature a menu to select which of the two games to play. Experience Displays in Black & White, but is otherwise fine. No graphical glitches. Sound is similar to the NTSC release that I own. I'm speaking of my NTSC cartridge of Planet Patrol, as I don't as yet have an NTSC release of Wall Defender. PAL GAME #2 Mission 3000 Publisher Bit Corp Country of Origin Germany Rarity Rating 3 This is the re-release I bought this game from a seller in the U.S. (Florida) for $8.98 + $3.70 (S&H) = $12.68. Cartridge and Box, but no manual. Bit Corp, like HES, released many games for the 2600. This one they released 3 times. My only other experience that I've had with Bit Corp that I'm aware of is that I own a Bit Corp Gamate, and several boxed games for it. The Gamate is one of the systems in the database at http://highscore.com/ Experience Plays flawlessly. In color as well. The eBay seller warned that this game was PAL and not compatible with American hardware. I'm sure that was stated just in case, well, you know how some people are. That was a statement, not a question by-the-way.* The only other thing worth mentioning is that the sound effects sound different than they do through emulation (EMU7800, Version 2.2), which is why I don't review games that I've only played via emulation. *The seller and I have exchanged emails since I originally posted this entry. He did, in fact, mention the 'not compatible with American hardware' part for the reason that I speculated. He already knew that this cartridge worked on an NTSC system. Please Like, Comment, and Follow. My next blog entry will be a game review.

Hey guys, I decided to try this forum as it might garner some more attention than in the Marketplace section. I'm near to completion with my PAL release Atari 7800 collection and there are three games that I've been having real difficulty in getting... - Kung Fu Master - F-18 Hornet - Tomcat: F-14 Simulator All three of these games were released in PAL territories under the HES/Salu branding and I'm looking for boxed versions of these games! I'm also on the hunt for a boxed PAL copy of Dark Chambers. Is anyone willing to sell any of these? I don't care too much about the condition! Thanks!

Hello all, I don't particularly collect Non-US 2600 games (or 2600 seriously at all), but when I stumbled upon this, I decided I better grab it before someone else does. Even if it doesnt fit into my specific game collections, I like odd packaging, which makes this a lovely addition should it not have any value. I seem to have an HES copy of River Raid in its clamshell. It's been a bit abused by the pictures, but I have never seen this before, and I was unable to find another one like it, either in the Marketplace here, or on eBay, though frankly, I only did a cursory check. I have tried to take clear pictures, but my camera is not the greatest. Hopefully they illustrate what is needed. I will be scanning and trying to preserve the packaging as best possible, I just need to access a scanner at this time. What I would like to know is A) if there is any interest in these clamshelled games, B) if this has any value more than nostalgia, and C) if anyone wants a deal on it Thanks, Solo

Pitfall II from HES Australia - until recently the existence of which was doubted. A 'holy grail' on atarimania, and a holy grail to any HES completest. 1 of only 2 confirmed in existence - the other I found last year and is documented on atarimania. This is even slightly different to the other in that the instruction manual is seperate (and not printed on the back of the clamshell insert) This comes with original waranty, instructions, and Activision brochure. The condition is excellent, and the clamshell case is also very good. Open to offers. For your information the other sold for AU$250 PM with offer or for more info. Cheers

Activision's River Raid HES label (Proper game preview pic)
SavyIsJoshoArts posted a gallery image in Member's Gallery
From the album: HES Cartridge Label Graphics
UPDATE: 5-1-2018 Heavy graphiced work. The original HES Label of Activision's River Raid had a Intellivision Game screenshot on the Cartridge label when It should've been the Proper Atari 2600 Game Screenshot on it. That's when I edit it re-done the label picture.© Activision Inc. and Carol Shaw - Game Designer for River Raid
