  3. I picked up my first Lynx and about 30 games at the weekend. It's a Lynx II in great condition, and with it came two other brand new and boxed but non-working Lynx IIs. They were dead on arrival when they were new, so even if I can't get them working they might be useful for spare parts. Dead Lynx A completely unresponsive: I tried with both fresh batteries and a Lynx PSU and there is no response when I press the 'on' button. I tried connecting the negative battery terminal to the negative (ground?) pin of the speaker jack (which I saw in a YouTube video) - when I did this the screen backlight comes on but there is still no response. Problem Lynx B works perfectly except for the screen display being fixed solid black. The backlight switches on and off, sound plays, buttons respond etc., but the 'brightness' setting does nothing. Again I tried both batteries and a PSU. I tried switching over the motherboards of these two machines, to see if Lynx B's problem is just with its screen, but there was still just a solid black image. I was wondering if I could swap a McWill screen into this machine, but I'm not sure if this problem would persist with that screen too- is there any way I can test whether that would work? Is there any other A/B testing I can do between these two machines to help identify the problem components? Are there any other standard things I can test for? Thanks in advance!

  5. I bought a working Lynx 2 quite cheap. After a while, I recognised that button B is stuck (not physically, but electronically). Since I wanted to mod a Lynx 2 with McWill's screen, I chose this one, because I had to open it anyway. I cleaned the flexcircuit and the rubber pads of the buttons with alcohol and installed the new screen. Everything worked fine after reassembly for 2 months. Now, the right key on the steering cross is stuck (electronically) .... Any suggestions whats wrong?
  6. I'm slowly but surely selling off the majority of my video game collection. I have the following items currently up for sale, and will be listing more soon and adding more photos and prices to every item as I find the time. I am taking as many photos as I can, but if I haven't listed photos and you want to see some just let me know. If I haven't listed a price yet, just ask. I have a LOT of items for sale so it will take awhile to update everything. All items are from my adult, non-smoking, household. All items have been stored away from sunlight, and either in boxes, a closet, or on a shelf. In other words, once these items got into my hands, they've been babied. I take very good care of my items, and try to be as accurate as possible with the descriptions and photos so you know exactly what you're buying. I'm a collector, so I know how it goes. SHIPPING will be actual cost by whatever method you request. I can ship anywhere in the world, but if you don't purchase tracking and something happens there's nothing I can do - you're buying at your own risk. TRADES - Although I'm just looking to sell 95% of my items, there are a few select items I would happily trade for. If you happen to have any of the following, please let me know: - Retro-Bit Super Retro Advance Adapter GBA to SNES (SNES) - Mother 3 repro GBA cart (GBA) - Secret of Evermore cart and/or manual (SNES) - Official Nintendo brand N64 Expansion Pack (N64) If you feel a price is WAY off, please let me know. Just took the original box plastic wrap off last year. Manual looks brand new, cart looks practically new except for the number "19" written on it. I just realized some of the left and right edges of the front label on the cart are slightly coming up off the plastic. (see pics) A small amount of shelf wear on the box at the corners, and a tiny tear at the one corner (see pics). Cart has only EVER been played a handful of times. This game was purchased brand new for a rental store back in the day, but they never actually put it out on the shelf to rent. They wrote the # on the cart, but it stayed in their back room as an extra copy and was never actually used. Then I purchased and it's been in my collection since. 7. I am just sharing this from user Marcel Franquinet from the Lynx fan group on Facebook. Apparently, he was invited to RJ Mical's home, where RJ showed him some rare Lynx memorabilia. Rare as in "I have never seen it before". Beside what appears to be a dev system and a Lynx design document, RJ also showed two slightly different prototypes of the Lynx itself. They are very different looking from the final version. Enjoy! The two Lynx prototypes: A Lynx dev system it seems: An original Lynx 1 faceplate, possibly the original mock up: Lynx documentation... 8. Back when I used to collect Lynx games (I sold them all), most of them came in boxes. I didn't really care that much about boxes, so I just stored them somewhere else. So in the pantry there is a big box of Lynx game boxes. The games are gone, but the boxes are still here. So I've decided to rather them sit there collecting dust, to sell them instead. Please note that there are no games in the boxes. These are just the boxes themselves. Most of these are in very great condition. I'm going to sell them for $2.50 a piece. So if you need some Lynx boxes, let me know. Here's what was in my box box: UPDATE: All are pending. apb basketbrawl bill & ted chips challenge crystal mines 2 dirty harry hydra kung food power factor rampart roadblasters rygar steel talons stun runner switchblade 2 todd's adventures in slime world xybots

  11. Hi everyone, I have an idea on a hombrew. I'm purchasing a WII U and the new Smash Bros. just looks great. Iv'e been playing-ish my 2600 (it needs repaired) this morning and I thought of something. What if there was a game where you could be old school arcade and Atari charachters and fight. I'd imagine it'd be the best on a 7800 or Jaguar. 7800 would be easier though. I suck at programming, but my friend could help with this if I decide I really like the idea.
  12. Hi all, I have a Lynx II which is 'like new' (only a handful of hours of use, total) in the original box with manual, Travel Carry Case Pouch, Sun Visor, AC Adapter and ComLynx cable for sale. I'm looking for $100 + shipping. I can accept payment via PayPal and will ship worldwide. I have an eBay account for reference (with 100% positive feedback) with dozens of international sales over the years. Thanks!
  13. Talking about a possible version of Donkey Kong for the Lynx made me think (again) about a topic that has bothered me a while. I'm talking about the right way to cope with the Lynx very low resolution, and the unusual aspect ratio. Let's face it, pretty much all classic games were developed with a 4:3 aspect ratio in mind, and higher resolution. Or in the arcades for vertical screens. So Lynx ports of such games have a problem to deal with to begin with. The example of Donkey Kong for one is, that it is originally a non scrolling game, and the player is meant to see the barrels the moment the ape throws them. He can thus plan his strategy. We have the DK sourcecode available now as it was used for the Atari 8-bit computers; running in 320-200ish resolution (or 160 stretched) This is how the game roughly looked on the Atari 800: Now if we went with the original graphics plus scrolling, this is what it would look like on Lynx, bar life, score etc which would take a few more pixels away. Is this desirable? Would people want to play such a version? I don't know. I already have the player sprite more at the bottom so the player can look higher u, but still I feel the overview is too lacking. The alternative would be redrawn graphics to fit on a single Lynx screen. Less detail, but more accurate gameplay. I have made this mock up for the Lynx in vertical position, and I have already posted it numerous times; it is but a try to fit the game on one screen. I have not yet tried to squeeze it on one horizontal screen, but it would definitely look even more squashed. Now this is not only about Donkey Kong (that's just the specific game that brought the problem back to my mind), it's an issue for many possible games; and even the dev back in the day dealt with it differently. See Double Dragon: the sprites here have original arcade size, being almost screen filling. in the arcade game and most home ports, the sprites appeared rather small with a wide look at the surrounding. to the left the Lynx, to the right the Master System: Ironically, despite the overall higher res of the SMS, the devs made the sprites smaller than Telegames made the Lynx sprites. The result is that while the game looks almost arcade perfect on pics the Lynx screen is very crowded and you don't see what's coming; the SMS version, while not as pretty retains the true DD gameplay. Which way would you go? With Ninja Gaiden III the approach was the exact opposite. Left on the Lynx, right on NES. Here the developers basically squeezed the entire NES screen on the small Lynx screen; it's almost as if they used an automatic resize option of some graphic program. The result is full overview over the game, but admittedly the sprites have lost all detail and it's hard to tell what they are supposed to be. And I feel that other developers had to trade off gameplay for looks or vice versa also; Electrocop comes to my mind, where I really wish I could see more of my surroundings to have more time to react. Or Zarlor Mercenary, which being a vertical shooter on a horizontal screen leaves you very little time to react imo. The old fake Mortal-Kombat-II-demo... GadgetUK considers doing a demo of MK for the Lynx, and again I've been thinking if this is a good size for the sprites. Characters can jump quite high in MK, how would that work here with such a zoomed in view? it would also be impossible to get a good distance between you and the enemy. Yet downsizing the sprites would take away from the MK look. I am really wondering what you all think in general about that problem. What would you do? After all homebrewers work for the community to enjoy the games, but I'm just not sure how things like these are best handled.
  14. After countless work hours, 108 Stars and I are presenting the playable Luchstenstein 3D demo. The main goal for us was to see what we could do with the engine and then hopefully make plan for a full content game. Keys : A : shoot B : strafe Option 1 : open doors I would like to personally thank 108 Stars for his patience working with me painfully limiting his creative and artistic mind ! Luchs3d.zip
  15. Hey folks! I'm hoping someone on here can help lend some insight as to how I can repair my Lynx. Here is the issue: When I power up the unit, it reads the TITLE screen clearly from any game I use, but then becomes scrambled after it tries to load the actual menu screen and/or game. See the attached pictures. It should also be noted that it was doing this BEFORE I replaced all of the capacitors, and have since done a full recap and absolutely NOTHING changed. The sound works and music plays when the main menu is loaded (but scrambled) and it even responds to the controls, but the center of the screen is shifted way over and half of the screen is scrambled. I'm fully aware of the dark lines in the LCD... I did a recap because I was hoping this would fix the issue and was going to do a McWill screen mod install, but since it's not reading games clearly, I don't want to waste all the time and money yet. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Atari Lynx Posters

    From the album: My Home

Here's a photo of my wall as it looks now, with several DC comics posters above a line of Atari Lynx game manual posters, and a couple of Krome Studios game posters below those. I intend on replacing the Hellboy poster (a DVd promotional poster from a video store) with another DC poster, either Wonder Woman, The Flash, or a Teen Titans poster depending on what I find first. There's a Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure poster (the Lynx one) below the Scrapyard Dog poster, since that area is where my games/computer room merges into the movie viewing area.

  21. I just found a great case for Lynx games at my local Target. Each section holds 10 to 12 games. And the case itself holds roughly 30 games, depending on the cart style (curved end vs. straight end) The case has a fairly secure lid, nothing like tupperware, but it does the job. They come in two colors, clear and pink, and two styles. The other style (not pictured) is a square case with four sections You can find them in the dollar section at Target.
