Skippy's Retro Game Center & Collections
Skippy B. Coyote posted a topic in Show Us Your Collection!
Hey there everyone! If there's two things I love in this world it's old video games and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and you can expect to see a fair amount of both in this thread. If for some reason you are put off by either old video games or magical talking pastel colored unicorns I would suggest clicking the "Back" button on your browser now. You have been warned lol That said, let's start things off with a look at my home console gaming center! That's a bit of an older picture, before I added another game storage cabinet for my 130'ish Atari 2600 cartridges and some framed Atari posters to the back wall, but it should give you a fairly good idea of my setup. Maybe I can take some new pics later this week if people want to see them. On the subject of the Atari 2600, that seems like as good a place as any to start the look at my game collections for individual systems. Again, this will be a sightly older pic... I've acquired a good dozen or so new games since that picture was taken, including Princess Rescue and a reproduction of Shooting Arcade; as well as a Wico Command Control Trackball, Wico Command Control bat style joystick, a Best Electronics Lightgun, and a Competition Pro 5000 joystick. Those I shouldn't have much trouble snapping some new pictures of in the near future. I do collect for a few other systems as well as the Atari 2600, including the original Game Boy / Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and the Sega Genesis. I use the term "collect" loosely, because honestly I consider myself more of a curator than a collector. I'm not out to collect every game published for my favorite systems, just the ones that I personally like and find enjoyable to play. If I buy a game and decide I don't like it after playing it then it goes up on eBay or off to a local game store and gets resold. There are a few historically significant exceptions to this in my game libraries (such as the copies of Pac-Man and E.T. seen above), but for the most part I'm only interested in collecting the good and fun games for my favorite systems. I haven't taken any pictures of my Genesis collection yet since it's still pretty small (around 20 games) but I do have a few of my Game Boy library to share: I have a real soft spot for the old gray brick and the games on it, but the vast majority of the time whenever I play a Game Boy game it's on my custom Twilight Sparkle themed Game Boy Color. I really dig the color pallets that Nintendo programmed into the GBC for many of the more popular original Game Boy games, and I like seeing the games displayed on a screen the same size as the one they were originally made for; but without any of the motion blur of the original Game Boy screen. The Game Boy Advance SP does get used for original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games sometimes as well though (usually late at night when I don't feel like digging out the Worm Light for the GBC), and it has been somewhat customized too. It started off life as a Graphite colored AGS-101 model backlight GBA SP and really got the ever living daylights beat out of it by it's previous owner, but after I purchased it I ended up refurbishing it with a brand new purple housing, buttons, and screen cover. I also took it to a local game store and had them solder in brand new L and R trigger contacts, and it's been a constant traveling companion for me ever since. It really is a wonderful little system. That's all for now! I hope you enjoyed this look at my gaming center and game collections, and you can expect to see this thread updated regularly with new pictures of Atari 2600, Game Boy/Color/Advance, and Sega Genesis games and accessories.- 43 replies

More pics are in this Imgur post: https://imgur.com/gallery/j7OisBw I have a Triple Bypass modded MegaDrive VA4 Model 1. Everything works except the colour blue is missing, i did not have this problem before the recap/reflow. It has a yellow tint. I initially suspected that the RGB pins aren’t soldered on properly on the VDP Chip (315 5313A). I did break the RGB pins afterall. But still managed to solder the wire onto it by further exposing the broken legs with my craft knife. I used plenty of solder, and flux, there is no bridging and it’s not loose at all. I test the system with each pin soldered on individually. Red works (Reminds me of the Virtual Boy), Green works but not Blue. Instead i get a black screen with Blue when i test separately, even though it’s soldered on solid. Other mods include the Region Free chips, DFO accurate 60hz mod both work. The clicky reset button works, replaced the 7805 voltage regulators, i get sound. I’ve also recapped it prior to this problem using the Console5 kit. Could it be the caps? All are installed correctly. Many in the right place. Ps I did make a mistake at first by accidentally soldering in a 7812 which ended up shutting off the system and the VDP chip did get hot. I then quickly shut off the system and desoldered that 7812 that was misplaced in the 7805 packet and soldered in a 7805 and it powered on again. Voltages measured using my Astro Ai Multimeter from the VDP to GND. I put Sonic 3 in and took the game out at the white Sega Logo before measuring it. Here are the results. Red= 3.135v Green=3.255v Blue=3.438v I followed this guide for the Triple Bypass mod, more pics from the guide are below: https://www.retrorgb.com/genesis1rgbbypass.html https://console5.com/techwiki/images/f/fb/CXA1145PM.pdf There is also this guide, did not follow this since i have the Triple Bypass: https://videogameperfection.com/2018/08/28/megadrive-bypass-installation/ Is the console/VDP at fault or is it the mod such as the Triple Bypass board? And can this be fixed?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0p3zksQlFSQ I love X-men games, but this one has always been my favorite. The video is some highlights from our playthrough, but watch the whole thing if you want. I really wish Gambit had a better jump...he would have been my main throughout the game. Oddly enough, when I talk about this game, not many people have an idea of what i'm talking about. The ability to play as Magneto blew my damn mind as a kid. Safe to say I never made it to the end of the game as a kid either. Thanks for watching! -Jared from Player Ready

Hi, I am a long time Atari Age Member who happens to have an Retro Game Etsy Store. You do not have to join Etsy to purchase. You can purchase as a guest as many people have. Here is the listing: Sega Genesis in Box with Inserts and Paperwork and 20 Game | Etsy Thanks for looking. Everett

Hey Guys, I know this is a Atari Forum but I am having trouble with my sega flashback with the firmware update? I emailed atgames and they told me the way the file is named can have something to do with it as it is very sensitive. I tried a 16gb sd card and a 2gb sd card both cards did not read on the sega when I turned it on. Also I renamed it to sega_update.img Any suggestions?

So im going to buy locally a faulty JVC X'eye as an future project, and i wanted to know if the problem this console has could be very easy to fix, or not worth trying. So the seller says that the system was working correctly both the Cd and cartridge system, but he recently drop the console by accident and now the consoles doesn't turn on, i tried to get some info on the internet but it seems that no one has had a similar problem, so i wanted to know if its worth my time to fix it, or just as a cool piece for display.

I am developing a new game "Space flies attack" for Sega Genesis and Mega Drive. This is a clone of "Space Invaders" and "Galaga". You can play together at the same time. Or with one AI partner. More than 90 colors on the screen.

Genesis Does! Pepenga Pengo (A Particularly Pricey Puzzler)
MegaManFan posted a blog entry in MegaManFan's Blog
At first I thought "This couldn't possibly be the same Pengo that I used to play on Atari consoles back in the day." Well IT IS. They added a story mode and some time limits but the gameplay is basically the same. Then I thought "Well this makes perfect sense. Sega made the game, Sega owns the IP, so they must have printed a whole bunch of copies since it was cheap and in-house." Well THEY DIDN'T. -
Definitely one to try in emulation or via an EverDrive!
