9. For the TMS340xx graphics processors: I saw this curious super fancy book yesterday while checking “Texas instrument data book”. (see our eBay thread also) Texas Instruments TMS340 Family Graphics Seminar . The listing indicates that it is PowerPoint slides from the seminar. As such, probably not so information-rich as just the data books. Regional Technology Centers were where customers took these sort of seminars or used services (I think speech encoding for one.). I’m not interested in it if it’s just slides with a $60 price tag. I’m happy with the online data books themselves. But could be collectible. If you’re into TMS340xx.
10. Howdy folks... new to TI99/4A and excited to be here. Long time Atarian recently gifted a nice TI99/4A. Decided to video my experience using for the 1st time. Apologize for using the word TIE instead of T.I. in the video but now I know. ? Hope you enjoy if you like seeing others excited about new gear. https://youtu.be/RYVDtG78XIg I look forward to reading through the threads here and learning more about it. TJ
11. When I saw this section this morning I thought I pass along something some of you might find interesting. Back in the day when the TI computer came out the Museum of Science and Industry here in Chicago actually had TI computers power their interactive kiosks scattered throughout the museum. They lasted a good 10 years, I wish I had a photo of one to share, but I was wondering did any other museum use TI computers?
12. So, I'm going to be away for a few weeks (more than a few) and away from my home-base where I can record new videos. So, in this thread I wanted to post those videos that have been created in the past couple weeks. I will be creating more, I know in the last video it appears it's the last, but it isn't, I just knew I'd be away for several weeks (i.e. 5ish due to work assignment out of town ). I have more ideas after this series that I want to develop but I won't be able to for at least a month and I have new items on order that have not arrived to review. So, it's not the end of the TI 99/4a Wagner's TechTalk videos. If you haven't seen these, I hope you take the opportunity to look around and hopefully it will be fun/helpful for you. Please comment below with any recommendations and I'll do my best to add them when I return in late April (I will have internet access, just not the ability to create new TI content as my TI will be at home and I won't be). Best to all! -Jon Part I - TI 99/4a Home Computer Introduction and History - Part I https://youtu.be/mFZgnH32Kag Part II - AWESOME TI 99/4a Upgrades - the nanoPEB - Part II https://youtu.be/hsQD0i4pZFk Part III - Preparing and Managing the nanoPEB CF Card with TI99dir - Part III https://youtu.be/cJ5v9d3LeJg Part IV - TI-99/4A Part IV - Various Upgrades: Video converters, TI99Sim, FlashRom99 and more! https://youtu.be/-0bffE-61qo
13. This is my first post here, happy to have found it (thanks Gregory)! The TI-99/4a was my first computer, I spent countless hours on it when I was about 14ish. It was this machine that helped me decide what I wanted to do later in life, Software Engineering. Recently, I brought all my TI stuff down from the attic and have been having a great time going through my stuff but also catching up on a lot that I've missed over the years. I've had so much fun, I decided to create a video series on the TI-99/4a, below is the first episode : TI 99/4a Home Computer - Part I https://youtu.be/mFZgnH32Kag I'm working on the second episode, which will likely be much longer. Here's a list of things I'm planning in this next video (or two, depending on how long it turns out in the edit room) : Next Episode ideas 1) Connecting the TI cassette cable to the output jack of a PC/Raspberry Pi to transfer a program to the TI. 2) Connecting the TI via an RCA Cable to an HDMI converter to display on an HD TV 3) Using a nanoPEB to load/run programs 4) Using a null modem cable between an RS-232 port/PC/RPi to transfer data between the two 5) Using the FlashRom99 to run carts Obviously, the next video will get a bit more technical but not so much so that it will be too boring. At least, that's the plan. If you have recommendations for segments you think should be included, please post below. I hope to release Part II here in about a week or two. Please like/subscribe if you enjoy this video. I won't be shy, I'd like to someday be able to monetize my YouTube videos such that it can help fund my addiction to technology ps. I also have a Wagner's TechTalk page https://www.facebook.com/jwagnertech . There I have videos about building RPi arcade cabinets, a custom robot my son and I built, an LED face for Alexa (works via bluetooth), etc.
14. I have this TI TM-911, I know it goes to the Terminal computer TM-990, and there are two websites with a bit of info, but other than that I can't find anything on it. No videos, no one selling anything on ebay, (besides what seems to maybe be the terminals internals) and no posts ANYWHERE on collecting, or having such a monitor/terminal. Does anyone have any info on it's worth, or who actually has the monitor or the terminal itself? Maybe video of it working current day? Anything? Here are the only two links I could find doing a quick search, and they just contain old manuals and articles related to the terminal. The terminal The monitor The attached file is a photo of my TI TM-911 monitor. Any info, especially finding someone else who actually has one of these, would be amazing!
15. This is the second installment in computer food coloring. This time, it's the MSX palette. It's also used on the ColecoVision, and the TI 99/4A. Therefore, it could be called the TI palette. It consists of 15 colors and a transparent color. Color 0 is Transparent. Black: 8 parts Black Medium Green: 9 parts Green Light Green: 5 parts Green Dark Blue: 7 parts Blue, 5 parts Neon Blue, 5 parts Neon Purple Light Blue: 2 parts Neon Blue, 2 parts Neon Purple Dark Red: 30 parts Red, 1 part Blue, 1 part Green Cyan: 3 parts Neon Blue Medium Red: 13 parts Red Light Red: 5 parts Red Dark Yellow: 8 parts Yellow, 3 parts Red, 2 parts Green Light Yellow: 3 parts Yellow Dark Green: 24 parts Green, 1 part Blue Magenta: 7 parts Neon Purple, 2 parts Green Gray: 2 parts Black White: None The transparent color was achieved by using plain water. The medium used was Sargent Art Art-Time white tempera paint, which is opaque. And here's how it turned out: That certainly looks cool! It's pretty accurate.
16. Info from one of the designers of the Texas Instruments video chip that was famously used in the TI-99. ColecoVision, SEGA SG-1000, MSX, and many other game consoles and computers: "We were about the cancel the whole 9918 program when Coleco came in with Colecovision and the TI Home Computer took off while at the same time the MSX computer in Japan (the “MS” standing for Microsoft which had a short lived joint venture in Japan) started selling big time using the 9918." "there is a color burst at ~3.58MHz. The 9918’s input clock was ~10.74MHz or exactly 3 times the color burst reference." http://msx.hansotten.com/technical-info/tms9918/
17. Ok, so after the Oregon Trail (California Bound) Project, I am rather bored, and need a new challange! Are there any games (Preferably text-based) that you would like to have on the TI-99 series? Depending on the size of the project, the game(s) may or may not get their own thread.
18. Hello, so a while back i decided to try to convert the 1971/78 version of The Oregon Trail (OREGON) to TI-BASIC (see here, scroll down on 1st page), and i thought it would be good to post my project, and have the text files available, because i can't use my TI and such stuff as often as when i started. MY GOALS: have a finished (or at least use-able) version by year's end have compatibility with the regular ti-99/4, but special features and hints for the 4a. have both text file and audio file versions have a completely finished version by today on 2018 have a physical tape copy of the program (witch means a audio cable soon any-who) I will also let people modify the finished versions, and will post updated versions so others can add to them. P.S if you do add something, please post the version you made here.
19. Finally got around to going through my 'Command Modules' to determine how many manuals I'm missing. Turns out there are far fewer than I anticipated, but enough to stick in my collector craw. Some I'm probably hopeless to find (Disk Manager 1 / Word Radar), while others maybe not so much (I mean, someone's gotta have a Weight Control & Nutrition or Story Machine). Anyway, thought I'd cast my line...PM me if you have any of these you'd like to swap for a few bucks. TI Label Disk Manager Disk Manager II Computer Math Games II Computer Math Games III Computer Math Games VI Equations Measurements and Formulas Number Readiness Reading ON (TI version only) Scholastic Spelling 5 (3-hole punched workbook w/ colour box-front sheet - also need front sheet for 4) Story Machine Weight Control & Nutrition Word Radar Space Bandits Superfly Scott Foresman Frog Jump Multiplication 2 Number Bowling Reading Adventures Reading Cheers Also looking for a box-only for Jungle Hunt, but figure I'll have to re-purchase it CIB to get that, and I didn't list any Funware titles, because like ya, that's gonna happen!
20. Back in the 'good ole days' the early consumer computers were relatively expensive, and since some companies foresaw a larger profit margin they used premium parts. Later to be more competitive with other companies the prices fell and profit margins shrank, many companies began to 'cut corners' with re-designs for fewer components, or just plain inferior parts. At the time a computers life was about 18 months to obsolescence, so if the computer only had to last 2 years or so, who would know how cheaply the thing was put together? I'd like to see a discussion of the computers that have endured the decades. Have the earlier models fared better than the later built models? Have some brands/manufactures lasted longer without intervention? For instance on the TI-99/4A the earlier built black & silver models had mechanical switches in their keyboards and they have endured to this day, but the later price-reduced membrane keyboards have pretty much all died. I'd like to hear YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with YOUR BRAND of early brand of computers. I'm basically trying to target the 1980-85 years. So if you have a TRS-80, an Apple, a Commodore, a TI-99/4A or one of the others let's hear it!
21. I have a Geneve 9640 that is in desperate need of a bootable hard drive controller. If anyone has one they'd like to turn into money, please let me know! Thanks, -M@
22. What is the username of the guy that came up with and made these cool video boards?
23. Just purchased an empty PEB and want to find a disk drive and disk drive controller card for it. Also looking for a 32K Memory card.
24. Looking for the following TI software Manuals/instruction sheets... TI branded: - Alligator Mix - Equations - Computer Math Games II - Facemaker - Multiplication 1 - Story Machine - Reading Flight - Reading On - Reading Roundup - Scholastic Spelling 3 - Scholastic Spelling 5 - Sneggit - Fathom - Weight Control and Nutrition Now the ones that people are less likely to give up if they have them (but figure I'd better ask anyway)... Scott Foresman White Label (looking for color graphic covers, not the generic white covers) - Number Bowling - Frog Jump Funware: - Henhouse - Driving Demon Atarisoft: - Jungle Hunt - PacMan I'm in Canada, so take that into consideration if you feel uncomfortable shipping across the border (not as uncomfortable, I'd wager, as I feel at paying the outrageous exchange rates of late)
25. I was wondering how many active TI 99/4A community members still exist in 2016. I could not find a simple way of knowing so I thought of having a central dedicated blog entry which we can share with anyone who we know is a TI user and tell them to like this page. They can then comment on this blog and tell us some details about themselves. Example: Name, Surname, Age, Country, Year when they first had a TI 99/4A, How many TI 99/4A machines they have, Maybe the entire inventory of TI stuff they have (brag a little), If they use the TI to develop software or play games, if they are just collectors, if they still develop or used to develop, a small personal story related to the machine, etc.... Please do NOT like this page if you are not a TI 99/4A fan.
