I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this, but ! Here goes ! I recently found a good emulator for the NEC PC6001. I need it to complete a video for my youtube channel but I'm having difficulties getting it to run a .cas image for pac-man that I found on Archives.org. I have't been able to find an alternate image of this game anywhere online. I do know it exists because of this. http://p6ers.net/hashi/emupacman.html I've tried to make it work in Mess & with PC6001VW Emulator to no avail. Anyone know where I can get an alternate rom image to work with this emulator. Because so far I'm turning up nothing in my searches. Attached are the clips I currently have.

I know this has been done to death, but I have to set the record straight. Numerous documentaries and books (even L. Herman's Phoenix) state that the video game crash of the early 80s was caused by too many games on the market. This is false. The second thing to address is the year of the crash. Some are quoting it as 1982. From the perspective of the consumer, this is also false. Perhaps some developers began to suspect the bubble was about to burst at the time. The truth is that the general consumer public didn't feel the effects of the crash until 1984. Reasons for the crash: Primary: Home consoles and arcades were slandered by the media. The focus shifted to computers. Video gaming never stopped. Instead of playing at the arcade or on a console, the majority of gamers played on their home or school computer systems. Secondary: The economic recession and rapidly rising interest rates. People were paying over and above 18% on their mortgages in the early to mid-80s. Consider how this and the energy crisis affected the amount of real disposable income (not to mention investor income). If you were going to spend money at that time, it was no longer enough to purchase an item purely for entertainment. Instead, it needed to serve more than one purpose. I.e. integrate home and office (generate income), educate (build a future), and finally -- entertain. Enter the rise of the home computer. Once the economy recovered and interest rates dropped, people could again begin to look at consoles. Hence the rise of the NES, Genesis, etc.... http://www.fedprimerate.com/wall_street_journal_prime_rate_history.htm

What is it that you would most like to have but you hadn't seen any for sale yet? One item I think should be made is big specific storage and display cases for each system. Many of us have large collections but need a better way to show off our favorite games. I would love to have large slotted cases designed for certain size cartridges. Nice wooden or plastic racks holding about 100 games would be just great. Another product I would buy in a heartbeat is something designed to clean the contacts on your old school gaming cartridges. They already make those to insert into your Nintendo with cleaning solutions for the consoles & game cartridges. Why the heck hasn't anyone designed one for the Atari, Intellivision, Colecovision etc? What about a cleaning tool, pad, or device that would work on all the smaller hand held gaming units as well? Let's hear your thoughts & ideas on something which you think is needed within the gaming community but you just can't find it in stores or online anywhere.

As you all know, the 2015 edition of the Carol vs. The World! Championship is under way, and we've already had a good turnout by rookies and veterans alike. Now, I would like to introduce you to my fellow judges for this year's contest, hand-selected for their unique perspectives, strength of character, and passion for our hobby. Or something like that, I'm sure. Judges Panel: Albert - First off on the list is our friend and host, Al, operator and administrator of AtariAge itself. Al brings a sense of respectability and fair justice to the judges table, which is well needed in a panel full of excitable and passionate individuals. Revolutionika - Our very own Rev is in the ranks, providing good humour, promoting fairness and equality, and ensuring that fun remains the main focus of the championship. GroovyBee - Nobody is as groovy as the GroovyBee, who's passion is self evident in all his work. Groovy's keen programmer's eye and zen-like perspective helps us make sure that decisions are not done in haste, that judgements are consistent, and that respect for the game is maintained. "Mystery" Judge - And lastly at the judges table, perhaps reluctantly and unknowingly, is the "Mystery" judge (it's my wife, but don't let her know!); through whom I ran all my ideas, concerns, and suspicions, and always ask for council before making decisions or judgements. When I bring up a topic to the judges table for discussion, chances are that "Mystery" judge has already vetted it and influenced it. And of course, there's your's truly, DZ-Jay, wrangling the cats, having fun, but mostly just stirring trouble. Let's all welcome the new judges! New Rules: In case you are not aware, we've updated the contest rules this year in order to make it more fair and accessible to rookies and novices. The most important change is the creation of a separate rank and prize track for veteran players. The idea is to give a chance for rookies and experienced players to win prizes, without having to compete against each other in an uneven match. A "veteran" player is one who has participated in the contest before with a score of 2,000 points or higher. To celebrate their accomplishments, Santa Claus himself has anointed them with the special honorary title of Elite Knight Elves. The other judges and I believe this to be a better approach for everyone, but of course we welcome feedback. After all, this contest is for the community, and to share and have fun during the Christmas Season. So, don't be shy! Whether you've played the game one time, 500 times, or none at all -- you are all invited and welcome to post your scores, share in the merriment, and have a go at winning a prize. I wanted to show everyone a test box and cart that I made with the help of some fellow AA members! I made this prototype to see how close I could get to making it look like a official Micro Fun release and I think it turned out great! I have always loved Boulder Dash for the Colecovision and I have always hated Telegames. Boulder Dash is one of those games that is really good and extremely rare. Do to that combination, the price for the game is around $500+ That's a lot of money for a "in my opinion" ugly Telegames box & cart. I have been wanting to make a near perfect copy of Boulder Dash that looks just like Micro Fun would have made it back in the day. I have talked to Collectorvision and if there is enough interest Collectorvision would be willing to make a official homebrew release of "The Micro Fun Boulder Dash" that will look just like my Prototype. This is not a preorder as Collectorvision will take care of that. This is just to gauge interest to get the green light on the project. My question to you is "would you want one?" I'm not sure of the price of the homebrew release as it depends on how many people would want one. The more people interested the lower the price will be. I don't think it should cost much more then a normal homebrew release but that would be up to Collectorvision to make that call. Here is my video showing off the game: http://youtu.be/-NQCfD_ZJXc As a bonus to all my Canadian Colecovision fans I also incuded in the video a special Beer Review of the best Canadian Beer I have ever had!!!! Let me know what you guys think!

Dodge It Panoramic Adventure DodgeIt_PA_RC1.bin Basic Gameplay Dodge an increasing number of blocks while competing head to head with KC Munchkin to catch fast moving dots in the arena of a large virtual world ten times the size of the screen! You have 10 minutes to collect as many dots as you can. You get a point for each dot collected and lose a point every time you are hit. If your score drops below zero you lose and the game goes into attract mode. Unique Off Screen Interaction All of the character sprites utilise soft collisions to interact in the distant planes of the virtual worlds; this adds an interesting depth of complexity and randomisation! Game Changes over Time Every two minutes the screen changes to “RF Blue”* and the blocks, previously restricted to the upper level, can traverse the level below. This lasts about 20 seconds and then things return to normal. Every 15 seconds, sssnake will draw a Fort for you somewhere near the middle of the virtual world; this can give you temporary protection from the traveling blocks. Further downwind, sssnake likes to draw a patch of alternating patterns of blocks (inspired by Archraxar Defense). Cast of characters and the game changes driven by them: The Blocks The blocks can crush you, and they can grab KC and the dots and swing them around, changing their direction anywhere in the virtual world. The Dots The Dots are cool, they travel around the world and you and KC try to catch them. KC KC is bad; try to avoid him! Sssnake Sssnake draws stuff in lazy languid patterns while the fast action is going on; sssnake is activated to draw things by time driven events and also by other characters, like the Score. The Score Don’t underestimate the score as a character in this game! 50 foot high numerals that carve passages you can walk through to reach the lower level (sometimes) comprise the score. While sssnake draws the score and the scoreboard, the score in turn causes sssnake to draw and erase different maze elements in various parts of the virtual world that change as the score does. Strategy Try to collect as many dots as you can when the game first starts and there is still only one block on the screen – this can help keep you from losing the game. When the second block joins in from below it often leaves a tunnel; even if this tunnel is just partial you can usually wait in it for a bit to either take refuge from the blocks until they start moving farther away, or it may align with the score passages, which you can use to enter the level below. Until you get good at somersaulting around the blocks (360 degree Joystick move), you may want to reload the game rather than pressing reset – reset ups the difficulty level on all subsequent games, you start with two blocks right away. Multiple Attract Modes There are two attract modes, one if you lose the game and another more interesting adventure attract mode you are rewarded with when you win that can last up to several minutes and grows more interesting over time: Adventure attract mode starts out showing the characters and scrolling down to display your score just like when you lose the game, only it does not keep resetting, instead the game slowly lowers your score point by point and the characters in the game eventually break free and begin to interact more and more as this happens. Your character cannot be controlled in attract mode but depending up on the attract adventure (it’s different every time!) you may even see your character break free of Master Control and start walking about catching dots on it's own. The length and complexity of the attract mode adventure is dictated by how well you do in the game; bigger score = a bigger attract mode adventure! Party Play Dodge It PA is tremendous fun with one player or as a collaborative party game; the extended periods of both furious and lower paced action allow players of different skill levels to share in the adventure! *About RF Blue: RF Blue is awesome – when the blocks rain down below you will feel as though you can see the fabric of the Matrix, the underlying gamegrid if you are playing on real hardware with a Radio Frequency connection to a tube Television Note: If you play in Stella, install the glide wrappers for OpenGL for better graphics performance with this game! *** ...Older stuff with early prototype below: Dodge It Panoramic Adventure Dodge It on the Fairchild Channel F is an awesome addictive action game that has never been ported to the VCS; until now! Dodge It Panoramic Adventure was inspired by themes from Dodge It, Berzerk, Pitfall, Adventure, Breakout and other classic video games Basic Gameplay Your Berzerk inspired character must dodge an increasing number of blocks and avoid the electrified walls while adventuring along the scrolling panoramic. In the original Fairchild Dodge It the blocks created entry tunnels; in this version the blocks will eventually create exit tunnels for you at the far end of the panorama. Goal Enter the tunnels to reach the level below to find Treasures that must be returned to the Vaus; that’s your Spaceship, you start out next to it! Pitfall style reset If you hit a wall or get smashed by a block you will get fried and transported back to the beginning; if you’re carrying treasure with you you’ll have to retrieve it again. Breakout is Happening You’ll notice a giant Breakout game is going on all around you the whole time! Once you’ve returned all of the treasure to the Vaus it will power up for another round. Under Development Dodge It Panoramic Adventure is still under development but here is a release of the Prototype for now: DodgeIt_PanoramicAdventure.bin You can use the Tunnels to explore the level below but there is no Treasure to retrieve yet. This game uses a remix of the awesome soundtrack Der Luchs wrote for Scrollout with some additional effects filters. Additional soundtracks may be added for the different stages. Looking forward to hearing ideas and feedback about the game!

How far will Quebec go to nurture its video game industry
Nick Gviddan posted a blog entry in Gamming
It is the one piece of good news that stands out in an otherwise grim Quebec fall. Video game developer Ubisoft Entertainment SA will invest $373-million over seven years and create 500 positions in Montreal. In a province that added a dismal 5,000 jobs in the past year, this private investment provides some comfort. But the change in fortune has a price for taxpayers, and it is not cheap. The Parti Québécois government is extending its already generous aid to the video game industry http://universe-journal.com/. The payroll tax credits, which can reach 37.5 per cent of an employee’s salary if the title that he or she is working on is also offered in French, are no longer limited in time. Quebec used to wean video game producers off the tax break three years after a title was released. This is a reflection of a trend that is changing the video game industry’s business model. Cheap or free online games that cater to a community of players are increasingly popular, be they one-hit wonders by independent producers or spinoffs of big gaming franchises. But video game producers need to use the insight they gain from players’ every moves to tweak their games on an ongoing basis. With this constant update, they can maintain the players’ interest and trigger so-called micro-transactions within the game. As the small transactions add up, the big money is made. This trend also explains why Quebec is extending its tax credit to the new trades of the game: community and network management specialists, business intelligence analysts, mathematicians and the like. It is only fitting that Ubisoft would be the first company to profit from these new rules. In Quebec, the French multinational is the one that got the ball rolling in 1997. Its lobbyist, the late Sylvain Vaugeois, convinced then Finance Minister Bernard Landry to grant Ubisoft generous tax credits in a bid to transform the province’s traditional manufacturing base into a creative economy. But local companies who envied the deal protested loudly, so the PQ bought peace by offering incentives to all the Quebec-based producers that qualified. The program proved wildly successful, and even the Liberals, who had denounced it while in Opposition, kept it when they arrived in power, even if they reduced the scale of the payroll tax credit in 2003. The video game industry now employs 7,400 people in the Montreal area, according to TechnoCompétences – Ubisoft alone accounts for over a third of them. When other Quebec studios are factored in, the province employs half of the Canadian video-game industry, which gave work to 16,500 people in 2011, according to a survey by Nordicity for the Entertainment Software Association of Canada. These workers, a little over 30 years old on average, earn around $72,000 per year. There is one drawback, however. Quebec’s success has fuelled the video game’s arms race. Provinces such as Ontario, American states, as well as European countries, like the United Kingdom namely, have sweetened their financial aid in recent years to attract these highly qualified, high-paying jobs. And the province has responded in kind. One can only congratulate the Quebec government for staying on top of the latest industry developments. According to Denis Langelier, media and entertainment tax practice leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers, no other province has been as amendable, even if some video game producers complain that Quebec bureaucrats are too finicky in the way they administer the incentives on a daily basis. But at the same time, one cannot help but wonder how far the province will go to nurture its video game industry. The current program cost taxpayers $128-million in Quebec’s last fiscal year. And from now onward, with the exception of the people who help with distribution, anybody who just so much as touches a video game will earn a subsidized salary, for as long as they are employed on that game. How much will this end up costing Quebec taxpayers? At Monday’s press conference, none of the ministers present were able to provide a figure or a cost-benefit analysis. And that is ignoring the direct subsidies that Quebec started throwing like a bunch of cherries on top of the cake. Ubisoft, which declared a net income of €66-million in its 2013 fiscal year on sales of €1.26-billion, received a $9.9-million subsidy this time around. If only Quebec were in good financial shape. The latest figure released Friday indicates that the province’s deficit has reached $1.8-billion in its first trimester. Despite the PQ’s promises, balancing the books for the year now looks elusive. At some point for the gaming industry, having a critical mass of schools, great talent and studios in a single city with affordable rent should be worth something. At some point for Quebec, enough should be enough. -
