The best of the worst. -
Hello Everyone! Today I want to talk about the Swordquest series and the sudden end of the series & contest due to the crash of '83. Five golden prizes were to be awarded to the contest winners, including The Talisman of Penultimate Truth, the Chalice of Light, the Crown of Life, the Philosopher's Stone, and the Sword of Ultimate Sorcery. These are the holy grail of the gaming industry and in the nerd world. The Talisman of Penultimate Truth was awarded to the winner of the EarthWorld contest, Steven Bell. He melted it down, but multiple reports say he did it to pay taxes, or pay for his rent. He kept the baubles and the sword as keepsakes, with the sword being stolen from him later, probably lost forever. The Chalice of Light was awarded to the winner of the FireWorld contest, Michael Rideout. Unlike Steven Bell, Rideout stated in an interview in 2005 that he still has possession of the chalice, which is kept safely in a safety deposit box in an undisclosed location. The Crown of Life was awarded to the winner of the WaterWorld contest, which took place right after the Video Game Crash of 1983. The winner is still unknown to this day, and no one knows where the Crown of Life is, even if the Crown still exists. AirWorld was never released, and the series ended without a formal or official end. The Philosopher's Stone and the Sword of Ultimate Sorcery follow the same unknown path. Some say Jack Tramiel, the man who bought Atari Inc.'s assets after the crash, acquired the prizes from Atari and displayed the sword in his living room. ( He passed on April 8th, 2012.) This claim though is unproven. Some say Franklin Mint repossessed them and melted them down and reused the metal for other items. Even though the contest ended suddenly 34 years ago, the series is one of the founding fathers of the adventure genre in video games, inspiring other games like it including the likes of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Minecraft, and Red Dead Redemption. Comic books were also included with the games, mostly used to solve the clues the game gave. They were made by DC Comics and illustrated by George Perez. T-shirts were also made that were given out to Atari Club members. members also received the final Swordquest game, WaterWorld. It was made in limited quantities and is one of the rarest games for the Atari 2600. The legacy of the series still sticks around the Atari fandom today, even with a new comic book being made, Swordquest RealWorld. The fact that the original series is still unfinished to this day bothers me, and I still hope, but doubt that the winner of the Crown of Life will step forward. I think it would be cool if the former contest would be given a formal ending, with the last two contests being played and the final two prizes being reincarnated and awarded to the winners, the former winners being reunited with the new winner, and they battle it out for the Sword of Ultimate Sorcery. with the AirWorld game being released, along with the final comic book of the series. A legendary series needs a legendary ending. Suggestions are welcome for what I should write about next. Ending Question(s): Did you ever sign up for the Swordquest contest? Hello Everyone! This is my first blog post ever here on AtariAge, and I'm excited to be on here! Let me introduce myself. My name is Chase, and I am a seventeen year from Ohio. I have been playing and collecting Atari 2600 games for 3 years now and I have never felt more passionate and happy playing simple games compared to the high resolution, highly complicated games of today. The 2600 seems to pull me in with simplicity and the appeal of playing games that have shaped the game industry into how it is today. I have used my Atari 2600 (a four switch Woody) more than my Ps4, and I actually love my Atari more than my PlayStation. I want to start up a YouTube channel reviewing games and potentially talk to the people who programmed them. I hope to have a fun time on here and I can't wait to share my passion with others and hear stories from others who grew up with the console I love. I will mostly will be talking about the 2600 on this blog, mostly about games. Which ones I love, which ones I think are ok, and which ones I don't really like. I might also dabble in the 5200, 7800 and the Lynx and Jaguar. And one question to end this blog: Which Atari 2600 launch title is your favorite? Mine is Indy 500, followed by Surround.

Ok so i have been working on a variation to this thread http://atariage.com/forums/topic/231131-flashback-to-colecovision-controller/?hl=%2Bflashback&do=findComment&comment=3805492 i have gone through and fixed the issues with the code pasted in the above link and rewritten it to allow a jaguar joypad to be used the current working prototype runs using every usabe IOpi on an atmga328p-pu microcontroller using its internal 8hz clock before i would decide where i should go from here i would like some feedback i cant add any more functionality using this processor becuase it is being fully used, so say if i wanted to add 2 players it would mean using another processor of the same settup to control joypad 2 an option would be to use at atmega 2560 which has many more pins that could be used. unfortunately this is a surface mount chip so it i a bit of a pain to make your own boards with it attached especially for prototypes i have hopfully attached a poll to this for everyone to provide some feedback before i decide what to do next

alright, so I made a post here about a week ago asking for some tips on repairing my light sixer. nobody. responded so I decided to take matters into my own hands and tried to fix my Atari. so after about an hour trying to get it to work I gave up and decided to see if anyone can repair it. So if anybody can repair my light sixer please PM me with details. (sorry for my grammar I'm a little bit agitated)

New name, new graphics!! <<<<< Poodle Jump >>>>> This release is really stable and very playable. Changes: starring a cute poodle dog with ears that go up & down new platform types (white "disappearing" platforms and blue "moving" platforms) the platforms are twice as thick after you die, the game resets after you press fire (allowing you to see your end score) fixed some glitches to make the gameplay better speed-up of PAL version (now plays as smooth as the NTSC version) no more "stacked" platforms cartridge size from 4K back to 2K The .bin files are attached here! Been looking for an Atari 800 or similar spec XL/XE model. Prefer XL/XE model, but will take the old style too! Ebay prices are either way too out there for me for what's being offered or Sold 'As Is and Untested' which I always kind of read as 'doesn't work and I'm selling my junk to you! Ahahaha!' Also interested in an SD Cart of SD Drive for it, but I'm finding those for more reasonable prices online so not required! Found one from an offer here! Thanks for checking~

Hi, I'm currently working on Doodle Jump for the Atari 2600 (see screenshot below). FYI: I initially planned to build this game for the Commodore 64, but after reading "Racing the Beam" a couple of months ago, I decided to buy myself an old Atari VCS and learn to program this strange, limited but wonderful machine :-) I've got the basics of the game working: i.e. bouncing Doodler, vertically scrolling platforms, score at the top and occasional springs that give your jumps a boost. However I'd like some feedback on playability. I've included both the PAL and NTSC rom files for you to play with. The NTSC version looks fine in Stella, but when I play it on my TV (using a Harmony cartridge) the colors look weird. I guess that makes sense as my machine is an Atari 2600 PAL version. Is there anyone that can test this rom on a real NTSC machine and TV? I'll be improving the game in the coming weeks (adding a high-score feature is high on my list), but first I need to do some refactoring to keep the code clean and structured. Hi there guys, so after talking to some of my friends about the problems with my 1040 STe, we wernt able to figure out whats wrong, so they suggested that I post on here and see if anybody can help me. Basically, almost every game I try to load either gives me a black screen after the main screen or it shows bombs or goes red and freezes. Ive only owned my owned my Atari 1040 STe for about 5 month and Ive only gotten some games for it in the last 2 weeks, so I dont have much of history with it.
