  1. My monstrous connections for atari 2600 (repro boards). I know the easiest ways to do this job, but I have to work with what I have at hand. These children have just been born. Atari F8 and atari 4k PLCC32.
  2. Still running down my laundry list of more minor tweaks. The past few things I've done are: - WSYNC screen color changes tweaking. I can't believe it, but on several screens I had the WSYNC on the DLI *after* the actual color register change, not *before*. Thus in the 5200 version there are a few screens where you can see a color change mid-scanline. I tested 5200 AdvII on a 27" CRT so it probably didn't concern me , or I didn't notice it back in 2007. So, I fixed a handful of those screens for the XEGS version, and those screens are more rock-solid looking now. See the before and after screen shots - look carefully along the logs and you'll see blue water color on the before pic . - Minotaur Freeze State. I never got to put this into the 5200 version but always wanted to have some way you could take out the Minotaur, even if just for a short while. In the XE version, the Blue Key will freeze the Minotaur in his tracks until you remove the key from that screen. - I also finally located a bit of code that needed some gentle massaging (either that or more Hard Work* ) to stop the Troll from BAMF-ing ** around at times. Fixed! * obscure AA reference ** BAMF is the comic book sound effect in X-men comics when Nightcrawler would teleport. BAMF! Al is going to have a recent version at the PRGE show , running on an XEGS machine. See prior blogs for other recent tweaks to Adventure II XE.

I would like to give folks a try at my new game before the finishing touches are added. If you like my game please consider buying it when it comes out!! This was programmed from scratch, by me!! Here are the instructions.. Joystick = moves the character Hold action = Jump (in Jump let go of action to attack) Left + action = attack Right + action = attack Down + action = special attack Hold up + action = Use magic (uses power) In easy hold action on the Game Over screen to continue In Hard hold action to begin at an earlier point in the game (usually), or choose a different character On the title screen hold a direction to listen to one of the music tracks, five in total! (I made all the music, too) This game is one of my most loved creations and I hope you all enjoy it and consider purchasing it when/if it comes out at AtariAge Please don't take my code or modify it in any way!! I present.. Titan Axe Beta TitanAxeBeta.bin

  5. I've been working on a new (well, it's been going on a while) project to bring a new game to the Atari. It is currently called "Escape the Night Garden" and can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYArkNuj0L8 I would like to thank Miker for the music, I came across this track and just loved it, so I asked him if I could use it and he was happy to allow me to use the track. Thanks Miker! Please don't be too harsh, it's my first attempt at programming a full game in MADS. A lot of work still needs to be done to get it into a working game. It'll basically be a game where you have to get out of the maze (night garden in this case) by flicking switches in the right order and avoiding enemies (when they're fully programmed), I just need to get past a programming problem with MADS structs. I'll better the graphics later, add a title screen, DLI's for more colour, extra levels, sprite animation, possibly more music if memory allows, additional fonts for more varied graphics and add a status bar at the bottom. At the moment you can also walk through walls, obviously that needs to be sorted. Levels (24 screens) are compressed down to around 450 bytes. That'll take up more when colour schemes, disappearing doors and enemies are implemented.
  6. Hello everyone! I've got a question about an Atari 5200 I recently picked up on craigslist. It's a 4-port model and came with all of the appropriate cords and stuff. I took it home and hooked it up and I could not get it to send a signal to the television. Curiously, the red light does come on the console itself, so I believe it is getting power, but the television does not display a signal at all. I tried on a couple of different TVs and got the same results. Wiggling the cord doesn't help either. I read on another forum thread here that the switchbox itself makes a "clicking sound" when you power up the console. However, I didn't hear any sound when I powered mine up. It does, however, allow another console to pass through it via the antennae plug in, and does display that video signal. Anyone have any idea what it could be? I was assured by the previous owner that the console worked the last time he plugged it in. If it is indeed the switchbox, does anyone have a homemade one that I can buy from them? My solderng skills are not up to par with creating one from scratch. Thanks and I look forward to your responses!

  8. I've been developing a skateboarding game for Atari 2600 with the help of bB. I've got it to a point where its playable and thought I'd share it with the community! I plan to add more stages, more tricks, title screen, menu, a two player mode and instructions on how to do each trick without an instruction manual. Instructions: Your character will automatically skate to the right and you can control what tricks he does with the joystick controller. Tricks: Kickflip: UP then RIGHT Heelflip: UP then LEFT Shuv-it: LEFT Shuv-it 360: RIGHT Flip: DOWN To land a trick you must be in air. If you hit the ground while the board is flipping you will crash. To jump (or ollie) hit the button and you will jump. I'll explain the logic behind the controls if it seems weird. The button is your back foot, so when you press it, you are pushing down the tail of your skateboard. The joystick is your front foot. For example when you do a kickflip on a skateboard you slide your front foot up the board and to the left to giving it the spin to flip. In game, you would press the button then move the joystick UP then RIGHT. Comments and criticism welcome! If you have any problems let me know. The .bin has been tested on Stella for Mac OS X 10.7.5 and Ubuntu 12.04 skateboarder.bin
  9. Hello all! I recently picked up a ratty old 4-port 5200 lot off craigslist for cheap. It was a great deal if only for the 17 games (including James Bond), but I was hoping to get some life out of the console and controllers as well. So I got everything nice and cleaned up, hooked it all up, and turned it on. The switcher clicked and the power light on the console came on, but no screen output (not even the black screen). So through the process of elimination, I found out that the console and power supply works fine, but that the switcher box wasn't working. (I found out by using a known good switcher, and it came up perfect, with both display and sound clear as a bell.) Took apart the switcher box, had to reflow some cracked joints on both the RF and power supply jacks, then tried it again. That time, I was getting a display, but it was very staticky and had awful static noise coming out. See the picture below: Given how expensive 5200 switchers generally run, I would prefer to fix this one if possible, especially as it seems this is a simple interference issue that I hope shouldn't be too difficult to fix. Oh, and if it's relevant, this is the Switcher box that has the RF antenna screws, and not the one without them. As I mentioned, I've already gone through and reflowed the cracked/loose solder points, but I'm just not sure what to try next. I had considered unwiring the antenna screws altogether, but I wasn't sure if that might mess something up? Worst case scenario, I'll just do an A/V mod on the thing. But my first choice is to fix the Switcher box if at all possible. Thanks in advance for any help!

  11. A while back I was trying to figure out a way to daisy chain both my sio2pc devices just because I was sick of disconnecting and reconnecting them. I do switch between the two depending on what im trying to do. I started a thread but never really got the answers I needed. Then a little while back at a thrift store I found something that gave me some inspiration. It's a belkin data switch from 1999 (good news its y2k compliant). It's just a parallel port switcher but I figured I could turn it into an sio switch for my sio2pc rs232 and my sio2pc usb. So I did. I just hooked up the switch at the sio end of both my sio2pc devices. Anyway I thought I'd show it off just cuz I think its pretty sweet. So here are some pics. Also I was wondering if anyone knew how to put an led on an sio2pc device using the 14c89 chip. Id kinda like to have a little led above each of the two inputs that gets all blinky when I'm transferring data. That would be really sweet.
  12. Hello, I recently purchased an atari 2600 junior and i have one of these: And was wondering if i could use this for hooking my atari up. Thanks, Archedhydra

  15. Well good news I found a heavy sixer for $20 at goodwill today. I was pumped till I got it home and started it up. Nothing but a black screen! Well I tried all the obvious stuff. Still nothing so I opened her up... No obvious problems. After a few hour of tinkering and checking voltages I decided to pull out my light sixer open it up and 1 by 1 I swapped out the socket'd chips. Bingo the little one in the middle fixed it. I didn't want to swap out the guts completely cuz I figured then its just a light sixer in heavy sixer clothes. But my light sixer is mint and the heavy sixer looks good but the wood grain has got some marks and the orange trim has definitely taken some wear. Now im considering swapping the tops. I know I cant fool the experts but I think it would make me happy to make my heavy sixer look perfect... But then again it wouldn't be perfect because I'd be cheating. What would you do?
  16. Would there be any possible way to save files in cassette format on any Atari 8-bit computer emulator? I looked at many various emulators such as Altirra, A8E, Atari800win plus, etc, and I can't seem to find any option on any of those for what I'm trying to do.
  17. Just I've listed my first auction in eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251530697357 It's a uncommon R320 Cartridge 32 in 1 in very good state, connector is clean. Most of the games contained are interesting hacked versions of classic Atari games. Just as a sample, the Donkey Kong game in this cartridge has Donkey Kong replaced with a kind of big smiling bunny More info http://atariage.com/forums/topic/42602-anyone-read-chinese-check-out-this-multicart-i-just-got
  18. For quite a while now, I have been looking for a ROM of the ATASCII Animation program that was for the Atari 800, "Atari Toons". I used every search engine I know of, trying to find a ROM of it, and I have also been to a ton of ROM sites as well, but I can't seem to get ahold of one. I also can't find any physical copies of it on eBay or Amazon. Can someone help me out?
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-59-Atari-2600-Games-/111364801339?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 i saw this eBay lot just now and noticed the cart in the lower right hand corner is an M Network "Lock 'N' Chase" cart........but its a really small case (half the size of a normal M Network cart)?!?!?!?!?!? Is this rare? Is it a homemade case? Did Mattel Electronics actually make them like this one? If so, I've NEVER seen one like it before today! Wiki has listed for Lock N Chase: Arcade Atari 2600 Intellivision Apple II Game Boy Wii PlayStation 3 3DS Virtual Console its not "Telegames" version (standard Atari shaped cart with silver foil label), its not Intellivision edition (actual rectangle shaped), can't find an Apple II version on the net, and its not Game Boy or newer..........
  20. In the iOS App Store now. Free with no in app purchases. Hashteroids, Centipup, Take-out, all realized at least as well as Atari's Greatest Hits. http://toucharcade.com/2014/07/01/dennys-atari-remix-released/
  21. I was wondering if anyone knows what is wrong when I tried to reset my atari 2600 with the reset switch on my Atari 2600 Jr it doesn't work but when I open up the console and jump the corresponding pin on the 6532 RIOT Chip I am able to reset and do the game select functions but If I plug in the ribbon cable into the motherboard that goes to the reset and game select buttons It doesn't do anything. I tried bridging it with wire but not effect the only thing It does when I do that it just stays in a constant reset loop like what would happen if you just held down the reset button. Any suggestions or idea would be much appreciated Thanks
  22. I always wanted to ask: why were there such great games (original and ports) for Commodore 64 that never made it to Atari XL/XE series? Was the reason only hardware issues? What are the key factors that determined this situation? Forgive my ignorance, - Y -
  23. So there is a good deal on a 1200xl locally. $60 obo complete in the box along with a basic programming cart,rf cords, and the power supply. Issue is I'm only really interested in playing games on it and I have heard that it has compatibility issues. What do you think?
