(Not sure if this belongs more in Prototypes or here; a mod can feel free to move if they like) Eat your heart out DDR and Dance Evolution. This was one of Atari's laserdisc projects, although I hadn't seen it on any games list before this. So as we know on the Atari once something was popular there were other publishers rushing to have their own version. With clone games being mirrors of each other which one did you like better? Phoenix or Demon Attack Battle zone or Robot Tank Space Invaders or Gorf Star Raiders or Starmaster Kaboom or Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em You can name other clone pairs and pick your favorites. Feel free to comment below and if you feel a game is unfairly labeled as a clone but is substantially different comment as well.

Who has modded their 7800 and what mods did you use? Everyone knows the limits of the stock video output of the 7800 and how it leaves much to be desired. What mods have you gone with and why did you choose to mod your system.

Hello everyone! After purchasing a "Vader" model for my collection from the flea market, I have been having strange problems with its functionality. I don't think this has happened to other collectors, but I keep encountering a static-y screen with no visuals whatsoever. (PS. It might be hard to see, but there is a bunch of dots on the screen when it shows black. I am new to this website, so I am unsure of whether this has happened to the collectors. I cleaned the switches and important parts of the Atari, in addition to swapping out system chips. I disassembled it recently, and noticed that the inside of the cartridge slot is damaged. Could this be the source of the problem? 002.MOV

So the writing is on the wall the original hardware may still work but many will not be able to hook it up. TVs are dropping the antenna rf port and analog av ports meaning if you don't have an HDMI or compatible signal you won't be able to hook it up to a modern TV. While there are clone systems that mimic the system there is nothing that gives real accurate low latency authentic hardware representations. So what can be done when no one is making these chips and they were never meant to be used with digital outputs. The answer is FPGA a chip that can literally change it's internal connections to mimic actual hardware and clone actual chips so you have a low latency authentic system that acts almost identically to real hardware but can be reconfigured to run on modern TVs. There is an open source project to resurrect and preserve gaming platforms in FPGA form that can be used by the community to create hardware projects commercial or personal. The name of the project is the MiSTer FPGA and they have working Atari 2600, 5200, Nintendo NES, Sega Genesis, Arcade Boards and other platforms. There are no 7800 cores but more than half the work is already done given the processor and 2600 chips are already there. Without someone's help the 7800 may fade to even more obscurity and will not be playable. Here are some links for further information: A news article detailing the project The 2600 core The hardware And Hardware Addons Wiki So what are your thoughts and what do you think the future or fate of the 7800 is?

I'd like to announce opening up of a website I've been working on over the last few months. It's dedicated to programming, DOS, utilities and other serious (non-game related) software, documentation, and other resources. Most of these resources are available at other sites around the web as well, but the presentation, organization, and some content is unique; and some of the resources you'll not find together elsewhere. I'll also be using it to house documentation updates that I've done quite often (adding bookmarks and improving cover pages, etc.), which I'd formerly hosted at these file-sharing sites that seem to come and go from month to month. So it'll be a permanent location for those resources. The site is more focused on quality and interesting software, rather than quantity, OSS being one of the main focuses. Right now I just have enough content to get things started, but I'll be adding more content as time goes by. Some textual content is incomplete (section descriptions, etc.), and some graphics are just placeholders for the moment. So they'll be other changes to the site besides adding content in the future as well. If anyone has suggestions or resources that they think might fit into the scheme/concept of the site, please feel free to speak up / contribute. Check it out here: Serious Computerist

New MiniVex controller for Atari 2600 / VCS combines a joystick, paddle, and driving controller all in one unit! Up until now, MiniVex controllers were made for the Vectrex (with the exception of the MiniVex Pedal I, which is compatible with both Vectrex and Atari) but this one is strictly Atari compatible. Compact size fits right in your hand, see second photo for size comparison. ONE cord and ONE plug, you can play your favorite games, one after the other, without having to unplug and plug in all the different controllers. Case is made of tough steel, has a weighty feel to it. Two toggle switches on the back. One selects joystick or paddle function, and the other toggles between paddle "A" and paddle "B." The black button on the back enables and disables the driving controller. Two buttons for your convenience, no matter if you're left or right handed. Either button can be used with any of the three controllers. Driving controller on the left, paddle on the right. Joystick in the center has the feel of an analog stick but functions like a digital one. All new parts used in the making, so there'll be no jittering during Breakout or Indy 500. This and other MiniVex controllers are hand-made by me, so they aren't cosmetically perfect. They do come with a 30-day repair guarantee. A handful of these will be auctioned on eBay during the next few weeks, as they get made. The hand-making process is slow, and how many will ultimately be made remains up in the air at this point. Please see this and my other eBay listings under seller name "classicgamesandcarsfan." Larry

If you were making an Atari 2600 Arcade what joysticks would you use? What style of arcade quality sticks would you use to be the most playable for the games and the most authentic to early Atari / US based arcade games? I was thinking the IL Eurostick or the Happ Competition pro do any of you have any other suggestions?

I have a lot of games I'm trying to get rid of so I wanted to offer them here before they end up at the game store. I may entertain cash offers but mostly looking for trades at the moment. Maybe closer to the end of the week for cash. I have my wishlist along with the other stuff in the attached link. Feel free to offer any items that aren't specifically on my wishlist, especially NES/Famicom, SNES, and PS1 games and/or accessories. Action/platformers, puzzle, and horror games are good for me. Send me a PM with any offers, and please get your offers in by Friday around 12:00 noon EST. Edit: Continental US only please https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/134tHlI07W4mDp5KlxVfEpaE6t_-P4xLgUSyQTTnA5sc/edit?usp=sharing
