  1. Hello and welcome, I always thought the idea of a real life Atari gaming event was awesome. This system has quick, energetic games that get the blood flowing which is perfect for a social gathering. It's a bummer that this event is only one weekend, in one state. (Cali) And I'm not able to attend those meetups. However, I thought It would be fun to host an Atari Party of my own every week on my Twich Channel: AtariParty I've got around 150 games in my collection, and a supercharger to load games from my pc, so there will be lots of options. Game will be played on an ACTUAL CONSOLE Voting for the next game would be fun, too. I was wondering if this sounds like a good idea to anybody. I will be starting TOMORROW, Tuesday night around 6PM Central Time, and hopefully stream every other Tuesday, too! Hope to see some of you over at twitch.tv/atariparty -blade
  2. Why isn't "The Official Space Fury" listed in the guide?
  3. Hello everyone, I have a question regarding Atari800MacX emulator. There are games like Draconus and Blinky's Scary School that just work when changed the configuration to 130XE; but seems it's no use with others like Dropzone and Alleycat. Any idea on what to do in order to have all (or most) games working in this program? Regards, - Y -
  4. I've got an Atari 5200 motherboard to sell - either for parts or if someone thinks its issue is an easy one to fix. Essentially when I got my 5200 years ago, I noticed a fault where periodically all the controller ports would cease to detect a couple directions (I think left and down) for a random period of time. I was not terribly tech savvy at the time and just replaced the mobo, though it could simply just be a cold solder joint or a bad IC somewhere on the board, I don't know. If you want to give that a shot - or just harvest some of the components on the board - then here you go! This does NOT include the RF/power cable, which I reused for my existing board. I'll accept any offers I think that are fair.
  5. Hello all, now that I have pulled the atari out and started getting into the the 'scene' again. I wondered what I would want to do that would contribute to the community. I am not a great coder, I am not a hardware designer, I do love to do mods, and consider myself pretty good with a soldering iron. I am a mechanic, so I love to fix and tinker. I also love to play Roleplaying games.. but OLD SCHOOL pen and paper Roleplaying games. To that end I LOVED INFOCOM, even Adventure International.. I loved text adventures. I think the INFOCOM items were software I always lined up to buy when it came out. The only ones that if someone put a new one up on Ebay.. I would buy.. and open it.. and play it! I also know that INFOCOM created an engine of sorts for dealing with text input, and that later Synapse came out with BTZ (Better than Zork) text input engine. I think I would love to try my hand at writing a text adventure. IS there any information what happened to this software? IS it possible to reverse engineer it from a game? What is the legal status of that at this point? I did write my own on the level of AI text games, back in the day.. it was a 9 room dungeon adventure, and the vocabulary was about 24 words and the if/than tables I had to make in basic back then were crazy. and huge just for 9 locations with on average 5-7 actions possible in a given location. Anyway.. would love to hear about anything you might know.. can I use these "engines" to help me write my new "electronic novel" James
  6. So I know that a lot of games were exclusive to consoles or exclusive to arcades, but of those that were ported, which would you rather play? The arcade or console version? I know some games I prefer the arcade version because of the graphics and sound and the controls. But other games, I prefer using a console's controller over the arcades. Sometimes, there's also just the nostalgia of playing the consoles. What games would you rather play on the console and which games would you rather play on the arcade? My Partial list Arcade: Street Fighter and other fighting games Double Dragon and other beat em ups Raiden and other SHMUPS Most Atari games Racing games Console: Platformers like Super Mario Sports games like NBA Jam and RBI Baseball and Punch Out Strategy games like Bomberman Adventure games like Gauntlet
  7. I'll be getting back into the competitve gaming scene pretty soon, and have spent a couple weeks going over old team videos to reminisce about old times. The backstory. I've been a competitive gamer for since Goldeneye 007 on N64 where I would attend ( and win ) small local tournaments and other events. I've since moved onto the CounterStrike games where i've been running a top level gaming team for 10 years this summer. The other player in this video is better known as "Steel". Steel has been playing at the pro level for some time, and is a long time friend of mine. He stayed at my place for a month many years ago and we filmed a bunch of competitve gaming related stuff including us engaging in some heated Atari 2600 competitions. I figured i'd share this with the retro gamers on this site. This goes to show that just because it's old, doen't mean it can't be fun! https://youtu.be/cERmZuO1qws?t=473 https://youtu.be/cERmZuO1qws?t=473
  8. Hello, I just expanded my console collection. I am looking for some reasonable loose games. Perhaps your doubles, or the ugly one with torn labels. I now have SNES,NES, and their import counterparts. I also have a Genesis, and a Jaguar (90% working needs a REG1). I would like to spend no more than $50, lots are welcome. Thank you for reading.

  10. I have been buying and selling on eBay for about 8 years now. Lately I have been looking at purchasing various old games, but the other bidders are either scammers, have money to waste, or don't understand how much something is really worth.... The past few days various auctions have been high as hell, and crap like this is starting to piss me off because it is setting a higher standard for other sellers. Am I the only one that feels like eBay is starting to get a bit worthless? I feel craigslist is the only place inline that has decent deals nowadays.
  11. I've listed some homebrews / unreleased prototypes on ebay. 18 unique auctions, will combine shipping: http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=riffraffgames&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X2600+hb.TRS0&_nkw=2600+hb&_sacat=0 Auctions have been completed - thank you very much to everyone who made bids!
  12. I've been picking up Jaguar stuff as I see them. Everything was bought locally (Central Canada). I'm slowly building a decent collection and I hope to get a lot more. I'm planning on setting up an area at a local retro gaming convention and I think a Jaguar theme would be neat. If pictures don't load, you can see them here : http://i58.tinypic.com/30aqnwg.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/5keq9v.jpg

  14. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-59-Atari-2600-Games-/111364801339?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 i saw this eBay lot just now and noticed the cart in the lower right hand corner is an M Network "Lock 'N' Chase" cart........but its a really small case (half the size of a normal M Network cart)?!?!?!?!?!? Is this rare? Is it a homemade case? Did Mattel Electronics actually make them like this one? If so, I've NEVER seen one like it before today! Wiki has listed for Lock N Chase: Arcade Atari 2600 Intellivision Apple II Game Boy Wii PlayStation 3 3DS Virtual Console its not "Telegames" version (standard Atari shaped cart with silver foil label), its not Intellivision edition (actual rectangle shaped), can't find an Apple II version on the net, and its not Game Boy or newer..........

  17. Well good news I found a heavy sixer for $20 at goodwill today. I was pumped till I got it home and started it up. Nothing but a black screen! Well I tried all the obvious stuff. Still nothing so I opened her up... No obvious problems. After a few hour of tinkering and checking voltages I decided to pull out my light sixer open it up and 1 by 1 I swapped out the socket'd chips. Bingo the little one in the middle fixed it. I didn't want to swap out the guts completely cuz I figured then its just a light sixer in heavy sixer clothes. But my light sixer is mint and the heavy sixer looks good but the wood grain has got some marks and the orange trim has definitely taken some wear. Now im considering swapping the tops. I know I cant fool the experts but I think it would make me happy to make my heavy sixer look perfect... But then again it wouldn't be perfect because I'd be cheating. What would you do?
  18. Would there be any possible way to save files in cassette format on any Atari 8-bit computer emulator? I looked at many various emulators such as Altirra, A8E, Atari800win plus, etc, and I can't seem to find any option on any of those for what I'm trying to do.
  19. Just I've listed my first auction in eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251530697357 It's a uncommon R320 Cartridge 32 in 1 in very good state, connector is clean. Most of the games contained are interesting hacked versions of classic Atari games. Just as a sample, the Donkey Kong game in this cartridge has Donkey Kong replaced with a kind of big smiling bunny More info http://atariage.com/forums/topic/42602-anyone-read-chinese-check-out-this-multicart-i-just-got
  20. I've seen Atari Flashback Portables at my local Target dropping to as low as $40. I've been a little curious as to how they are, but is it worth picking one up? Are there any caveats I should be aware of? How is game compatibility? How is hardware emulation? The only Flashback I've ever had was the Flashback 2 (I have two of those), but the Portable seems interesting.

  22. Here's a machine I've been curious about but have never seen often enough in the wild: the Atari ST. Unlike the Amiga, which I seriously desired as a kid (and I have two models now: a 500 and a 4000!), the Atari ST tickled my curiosity but wasn't one of those "Oooh, I've gotta have it right now!" type of desires. Nowadays, though, I thought it would be pretty neat to check out the actual Atari ST hardware and see what it's all about! I do have some experience using Atari TOS thanks to Hatari, and I have sampled some games and demos on the platform. It's enough to wet my beak and get me interested in wanting to maybe add one to my collection! My problem, however, is that, like other retro computers of the time, the prices for Atari STs (and even the STE) have shot through the roof to ridiculous, exonerate prices on eBay and even Amibay. To make matters worse, most auctions and sales that I see are all in Europe (and I'm in the USA), which would mean that shipping would be absolute murder, and I'd also have to then spend money on things like step-down transformers and plug adapters. So my question is this: what's a fair going price for an Atari ST? I'd prefer an STE model; it can have 1MB RAM minimum and that's fine. Hell, it doesn't even need to come with cables; since the PSU is internal on STE models and is a standard 3-prong PC lead, I can supply one. I just need a mouse and I'm good. Send some ideas my way and I'll work from there!
  23. hello i hope someone can help me i have googled alot and i did not find anyting. the power supply workes and it reads 5 volt after the regulater. the cable i am using is a rca coax cable do i need to get a different cable? i have tested it with mutiple tvs and games, it is a 2600 jr pal version . -seppe
