  1. This was presented during the 26th edition of the ADAMCon in Cleveland, at 11 o'clock Friday July 25, 2014. Link Blog (download) : http://newcoleco.dev-fr.org/p4219/2014-07-19-draw-your-coleco-sound-effects.html DOWNLOAD CVSoundFX.zip Give it a try and if I see a clear interest to use this tool , new functionalities wilit will be part of the toolkit with some improvements. Story My previous presentations about the sound chip inside the ColecoVision console got some attention. Unfortunately, nobody seems to have done anything with this information. I was thinking : "Maybe this is too technical, I need an even more family friendly approach." For this year ADAMCon, I was invited to talk about sound effects and instead of showing again a bunch of numbers they might forget, I've decided to create this tool for everyone who want to have fun making their own Coleco sound effects. Technical Information Coded in Java 1.6, this tool allows to draw frequencies and volumes as you want and save your creation. It's simple and a lot of fun just giving it a try and say "I can do Coleco sound effects! Listen!" Please note that the resulting file ( .sfx ) is a text file with the following structure : MODE [0 = tone, 1 = periodic noise, 2 = white noise] SIZE [120 by default, number of entries ( period + attenuation ) in this file, 120 @ 60Hz = 2 seconds] START [0 by default, it's the index value where the selection starts] END [119 by default, it's the index value where the selection ends] sound data ( each period and attenuation values )

  3. As the title suggests, I will be using this thread to share scans of everything that I have collected over the years re. the ColecoVision Game System and the Coleco ADAM Family Computer. I will be posting items in their entirety and some items could take a number of days to a week depending on how much time I have. I hope everyone will really enjoy all the great items that I will be sharing in this thread and feel free to use as you wish... I don't claim ownership to any of this stuff, it belongs to the community. To start out, I will be posting the "1984 Coleco Press Kit/Toy Fair Catalog - 1st Release" which details items for the ColecoVision, ADAM Computer and Atari/Gemini systems. It is 75 JPG scans long and will obviously take a number of days to complete. Enjoy!
  4. https://auctions.godaddy.com/trpItemListing.aspx?miid=261954276 Shutting down the website, and would like to see it go to someone who is serious and can turn it into something good. $1,500 USD is the corporate price... but if you're interested I'm open to offers.
  5. Golden era shelf in my game collection. Got some cool new additions like Rubiks Cube and Silver label Gravatar for the 2600.
  6. So about a month ago, I bought an ADAM. On Monday, another one followed me home... https://youtu.be/Ngj3YN8y_4I
  7. Once upon a time, more than a decade ago, a collection of sounds and music of various ColecoVision released games was put together with the best sound chip simulator of the time I've coded in Java, better than any emulator back then. https://wayback.archive.org/web/20090831111436/http://www.geocities.com:80/newcoleco/soundbank/os7_en.html Here's an archive of that web page with files. Download: soundbank.zip Unzip everything in a single folder, unzip the soundbanks, but do not unzip the .gz files. Then execute either the CVBANK.JAR or the CVBANK.EXE file. Enjoy!
  8. Undertale - Muffet Song - Spider Dance STORY I really like this music and wanted to create a ColecoVision version of it. So I took a day listening to the original music and multiple covers including the great acapella version by Smooth McGroove. I took a day to decide the way I wanted my version to sound like and coded the first 30 seconds, added the valid cartridge header and very simple needed routines to work properly. These four consoles are by far the cheapest to buy and easiest to collect for. If you want to collect for Studio II, Astrocade, Channel F, Arcadia 2001 (Why are there so many of these?), APF-MP1000, Creativision, Adventure Vision, 5200(?), or vectrex (Sadly) you are a bit crazy perhaps. I'm looking at the Wikipedia page for second generation consoles... Why are there so many?!? No wonder the market crashed There were like... 18 different consoles worldwide... and that's just silly.

  11. DUCKTALES 1987 THEME SONG (All-in-one archive) : DUKETALES1987.zip This archive contains the Ducktales theme song I've composed a few days ago. This archive is also updated to contain both PAL and NTSC versions, technically making it sounds just fine regardless if you are using the NTSC or PAL ColecoVision game system. WARNING! The music may play at the wrong speed if you are using a modded ColecoVision or an emulator. For example, setting 50Hz on BlueMSX but still using the NTSC ColecoVision BIOS results into a slower theme song. If you are curious, unzip everything in a single folder, modify one of the ASM source files, and double-click the "compile.bat" file to generate a new ROM file (if the modification is valid). Anyway, enjoy the new ROM file with all the files to make it. PS.: I know, I've called the project DUKETALES on my computer... why? I don't know, I just did it that way.
  12. I get messages asking how do I compose music for the ColecoVision. I hope this will answer your questions. SCREENSHOTS The only softwares I'm using to compose music for years now. VIDEO The music playing on BlueMSX at 50Hz clock And that's it. I'm not using any music tool nor a midi keyboard which I would like to use; I use my imagination and start coding with time and dedication, trials and errors. STORY TIME Late April 2018 With the positive comments received about my CV Commando music-box, and not yet decided about a game project to do, I wanted to compose another CV song during the last week of April. After watching multiple videos of beloved 80s music, and some videos about a SNES ROM hack called GrandPooBear World filled with music, I've finally selected Africa by Toto. I was a bit afraid to not be able to make it sounds good after hearing the Commodore 64 version I've found that I didn't like much, but the song repeats enough and uses an interesting rhythm variation that I love composing with a drum beat (usually when we *clap* our hands) at every 3/4 per bar (measure), like in Commando and many other songs I've composed so far. April 28, 2018 I went babysitting to help a friend who desperately needed someone for an hour or two. On my way back home, I've stopped at a coffee shop to compose my vision of the ColecoVision version of this music. After many hours calculating and tweaking what each sound channel should do to get a pretty good version of the chorus part, and probably looking like a weirdo moving my hands in the air to the music nobody was hearing, I've decided to stop there, send an email, and let my ears relax. My calculations surprised me to see that power of 2s cycles per note were ideal for the PAL version and so I've decided to go with it. FILE: toto-20180428.zip April 29, 2018 Encouraged by what I've started, I've composed the music intro (riff part) which added the xylophone instrument and a reverb voice effect. But hearing both parts back to back felt a bit off. After some tweaking by reducing the duration of the drum sounds to give more time for the bass notes, both parts sounded finally great together (uniformity of the rhythm). Then I got a call; my friend needed my help again. Back home, I've composed a verse by using the same trick as in Time Pilot by playing the same note on 2 channels but slightly different to get almost the same effect as singing on multiple tracks. (save) FILE: toto-20180429.zip April 30, 2018 After dinner, I've started to compose pretty much everything else which added the flute (recorder) instrument, with the help of some music sheets. I've also tweaked the high pitched notes in the chorus part to not be that loud compared to the rest of the song. I had to stop before completing the solo part; my eyes were redder than ever, it was time to sleep. As a surprise and email test, I've sent this file to some Coleco homebrewers and fans; got a bunch of emails bouncing back but some reached destination. FILE: toto-20180430.zip May 1st, 2018 At lunchtime, I took a moment to complete the solo. Finally! Time to share it online! I've created this post on AtariAge and sent a message on Twitter about it. (save) FILE: toto-20180501.zip Not bad, isn't it? I've even muted one of the 3 tones channels to use its frequency to play bass notes on the noise channel. And keep in mind the sound chip has fewer possibilities than many other sound chips of the time, no triangle wave, no PCM sample, nothing. Simulated instruments: drum *clap*, maraca, bass, keyboard, guitar, flutes, xylophone, voice, chorus. Share and Comment :-)
  13. Up for sale are the citrus3000psi RGB boards for the Colecovision/ADAM. These boards are designed to be soldered to the bottom of the VDP and provide RGBS to an output connector of your choice. To properly calibrate these boards, 3 onboard POTs are used to adjust each color individually. Please note that to properly calibrate the board, you MUST use an oscilloscope. If you do not calibrate with an oscilloscope and choose to adjust by eye, please note that any compatibility issues, damage, or world ending results via the summoning of Cthulu are solely your responsibility. Each kit is sold as a DIY and fully assembled/tested before shipping. If you receive a board and have issues, please contact me. If the issues are found to be related to misuse or improper installation, you are on your own. If there appears to be a defect in manufacturing, I will work with you towards an amicable resolution. No output connectors are provided, except with install service. Output connectors can be whatever you wish but the cables themselves must be pass-through, ie no capacitors or resistors installed. If you need assistance with purchasing cables or output connectors please reach out and I can answer your questions. Each board is $30 shipped in the Continental US (CONUS). If you do not feel confident with the installation or would prefer to have it installed for you, I will be providing install services with oscilloscope calibration of the board. Cost of this service is $80 including the board, but not including return shipping.

It's sad when the battery cover is more valuable than the machine itself
  15. I'm leaving here the first draft of a music I'm currently working on. It's based on a famous chiptune many should recognize. It took me about 3 hours to figure out the proper notes, sound effects and what overall feels nice to my ears (essentially means, I am able to listen without the feeling that something is out of place). Keep in mind that I code music note by note, no help of any music tracker, it's all done by hand which takes a lot of time, patience, a minimum of music knowledge, and listening to the original material over and over again. You can try to compile the music data in a program with the proper calls to the Coleco OS sound routines, check the coding guides, OS7 ColecoVision BIOS listing. It should also work with ADAM EOS sound routines since they are essentially the same. You can also try to use a keyboard and play the notes mentioned in the comments. You can also play directly the data with one of my sound tools without compiling anything. Hint: the capital letters HS refer to the words High Score. And for those who really can't try the music data listings, at least you can listen to the result. 17. Hello! I've set up an IRC server on the Adam Wiki server. You can now chat at irc.adamwiki.info on port 16667. Please notice the port is NOT 6667 as that port is banned by GoDaddy's VPS hosting. I will try to always have the room #ADAMChat up and running for you guys. Feel free to open other rooms as you see fit.
