Just wondering the what you guys would think the value of this system would be? I have a change to pick one up with the Basic Language Cart as well as a few others, with all hook up. Was a TI guy in the 80's and went PC in the 90's. Been been getting back into the TI as of late and was thinking of adding another retro computer. Thanks, Robb

Recently (May 2015), my Aunt, who is a Realtor, was selling a house for someone, the previous owner moved out and wanted to sell it, well, they left a ton of stuff, so my aunt tasked me with cleanup, in exchange for all the contents. one of the things was a Commodore SX-64 Executive Computer, a Commodore 1541 Floppy Drive, and a Commodore MP-48 Printer. I went to boot the Commodore, and Nothing Happened. the light was on, and i could see that the screen was on, but it was just a black screen. Any ideas?

Hello, everyone! While I've been a long time AtariAge member, this is my first time in the Atari computer forum. I hope you folks can offer some advice on a rummage sale purchase. I recently acquired a working 800XL unit. Thrilled, I brought it home and everything worked great! While searching this forum on another topic, I discovered that some of the power supplies for this model tended to die violently with a huge spike in voltage destroying the computer. Unfortunately, it looks like the power adapter I have is of the infamous Ignot design: Fortunately, I tested the output with a multimeter, and it was outputting a nice 5.14 volts unloaded. Still, I was nervous about the whole thing, so I went looking around for another power supply. Low and behold at the same rummage sale the next day, they had this puppy: 2.8 amps at 5 volts, a switching power supply which I think should be more reliable. The unloaded output is the same 5.14 volts as the original power supply. It is much smaller than the original Ignot, but that shouldn't make a difference, should it? What do you think? Can I use this to safely replace my 800XL ignot power supply after cutting the cords and splicing them to the DIN adapter? Your advice and opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hello, first topic to the forums, please excuse me if I unknowingly break some rules. I would like to see if anyone has an Atari 800XL they would be willing to part with, complete with power supply and maybe some software (this would be my first unit of this type). Please respond to this topic or pm me to discuss details. My goal is to have a working unit in decent, but not necessarily perfect, condition. For reference, I live in the US and am looking for a US NTSC unit. Thanks for reading, any tips or ideas are appreciated.

The poster for the upcoming Gameplay: The Story of the Videogame Revolution documentary film is now ready, and shown below. When the Website is ready, I'll post again, and also once distribution details for this year are finalized. The film, which is based on the Vintage Games series of books by me and Matt Barton (we're also writers and producers on the film), covers the history of videogames from the perspective of those who made it happen. Those interviewed include Nolan Bushnell, John Romero, Todd Howard, Daniel Murray, Darion Lowenstein, Eric Lindstrom, David Crane, and many, many more. The narrator is Cain Devore. The film also has a Facebook and Google+ presence, although Armchair Arcade is still a great place to find out new details (in fact, here's the same thing as a blog post there so you can see the PDF).

Title pretty much says it all. I wanted to devote a thread for the engineers and developers who made our classic consoles and computers possible. Just off the top of my head: - Nutting Associates were behind the development of the Bally Astrocade. I think Ken Lill (kenzre) was part of this group? - Jay Miner designed the chips used in the Atari VCS and Atari 8-bit computer line. - Ed Averett and Roberto Lenarducci were behind the development of the Magnavox Odyssey 2. Ed convinced Magnavox/Philips to develop a new video game console using Intel chips. He also programmed many games for the O2. Roberto was the engineer behind the Odyssey 2's hardware, including the membrane keyboard and controllers. - Eric Bromley and Nuvatec were behind the development of the ColecoVision console. The ColecoVision uses Texas Instruments video and audio hardware. Please feel free to add other consoles/computers & who developed/engineered them, or add to what I already have up. -
Hi, I am just learning my way around the 7800 scene. And I used to be more active in the Colecovision scene. But I had not enough time for so many different Consoles. My main systems are the C64 & Atari 2600 so it just seemed natural when I needed to replace my 2600 to get a 7800. I really think there's a lot of potential with the 7800 but as I am new I don't know how big the Homebrew base is that would support more homebrew projects. So I started this thread to put out there what I would like to see done. I really would like to see more classic 80's arcade ports like in the Colecovision scene. But I also would like to see some multiplayer strategy games like M.U.L.E, that I think was on the 5200 and some classic games like Archon, Mail order Monsters. Anyway this is just my humble attempt to get the conversation started between 7800 gamers & home brew developers. Thanks to all who contribute.
