  1. Back in the day, Miller's Graphics produced RS232 modified EPROMs for the TI, Myarc, and CorComp to accommodate the shared interrupt line between the RS232 and the AVPC card. I have both the TI and Myarc versions but I am missing the CorCOMP version. Anyone have one?
  2. I just burned a pair of 27C040 EPROMs with four TOSes and installed them in my 1040STe. I have pins 30 and 31 (A17 and A18) tied to 5v each through a 10K resistor. These pins are also each connected a SPST switch that grounds the address line when flipped up. For some reason, only the last TOS is working - Petar Putniks v1.62i. The other three just sit at a white screen forever at power up or a garbage screen if reset. I'd put the files up for someone to check, but I don't want to post PP's custom TOS online. @ParanoidLittleMan I used PP's ROMSPLI2.PRG on my ST to split each of the TOS images into a HI and LO file. Then I used Windows COPY /B command to merge the four LO files together, ditto for the HI files... ie: copy /b TOS162.LO + TOS206.LO x.LO copy /b x.LO + EMUTOS.LO y.LO copy /b y.LO + PPTOS.LO z.LO ..ditto for the .HI files. Both came out to an even 512KB. EPROMS did burn and verify without issue. I verified that the IMG files worked in the HATARI emulator before I split them. Wiring is clean. No shorts or opens. Pins 30 and 31 are out of the socket and not touching anything else besides the wiring attached to them. What could I be doing wrong?
  3. I asked these questions on another post with an EPROM title but I think these FPP questions deserve their own topic... 1) I've read that there is a faster and more accurate set of Floating Point Package routines. Has anyone created a modified 400/800 OS/B that integrates these improved FP routines? Same question for the XLs and XEs. ref: https://atariwiki.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=FAST FLOATING POINT source code for the ATARI 2) If yes for '1', who/what/where? 3) Would faster FP routines cause commercial software to misbehave (i.e. run faster than designed, become unstable or unpredictable, etc.)? If yes, I suppose the improved FPP routines are of limited benefit... only for the programmer and one would need the ability to switch back to the orig FPP for everything except some custom programs. 4) It seems like only the 400 and 800 have standalone ROMs for the FPP as seen in the image below. Where is the FPP on the XLs and XEs? Is it part of the OS ROM on XL and XE? 5) Bonus Questions... I am trying to determine what kind of EPROMs would be replacements for each of the ROMs on all the A8s. So far I have what is in bold/blue. Can you help me fill-out the rest of this list? Hopefully several of the models share the same EPROM types. - 400 10KiB OS and FPP (2 OS chips and 1 FPP chip) - 800 10KiB OS and FPP (2 OS chips and 1 FPP chip) - 1200 XL - 16KiB OS ROM - 600XL - 16KiB OS ROM (27128 can replace the OS ROM per post #2), 8Kib BASIC ROM - 800XL - 16KiB OS ROM (27128 can replace the OS ROM per post #2), 8Kib BASIC ROM - 130XE - 16KiB OS ROM, 8Kib BASIC ROM - XEGS OS+Basic+Missile Command all in one ROM = IC 27C256B-12 EPROM 256K-Bit 120ns UV EPROM Picture of a very early 400 mainboard. OS is in two ROM chips (C012499 + C014599) and FPP in one ROM chip (C012399). I think the 800 had these same 3 ROMs on it's 'Atari CX801 10K ROM Personality Module' rather than on the 800 mainboard. Thanks for any/all replies!!
  4. EPROM burning is a new area I am exploring so I am seeking what is probably some very basic information. I've done some searching of this forum and found some good bits of information but not quite enough guidance for a newbie. I ordered an EPROM burner (TL866II Plus). My goals are simple, I want to be able fix and enhance my A8s as in the following use cases: A) create and replace Atari 8bit OS ROMs (on all A8s) and BASIC ROMS (on XL/XE) - 1st example - switch my XL BASIC ROMS from Rev 'B' to Rev 'C' - 2nd example - when an A8 fails a ROM check I want to be able to replace the ROM B) repair/modify/create carts - 3rd Example: turn a Rev 'A' BASIC cart into a Rev'C' cart. - 4th Example: I have sevearl bad carts, the shells and labels are great but the cart itself is toast. I appreciate any/all answers and links to the following Questions: 1) I assume it varies by A8 type but what type(s), size and speed of EEPROM or EPROM do I need to buy for: 1a) OS ROMs (are the OS ROM sizes/types all different in each different A8? any rules-of-thumb like all XLs use the same or 400 and 800 share the same?) 1b) BASIC ROMs (are all the Atari BASIC ROMs 8K?) 1c) cart ROMs (what are the different sizes? 8K and 16K? Others?) 1d) are there EPROM brands better than others? 1e) are there EPROM brands to avoid? 1f) recommended suppliers (Jameco? others?) I am in the U.S. 2) Good places to find reliable original ROM images for OS and BASIC ROMS and for other carts? and what do I look for (i.e. .rom files or other extensions)? 3) If I need new PCBs for repairing my carts, where are good places to source them? Who makes/sells the various 8K, 16K, etc. cart PCBs either bare or populated? 4) When it comes to carts am I better off buying one of the many more modern multi-cart options? What is your favorite? 5a) I've read that there is a faster and more accurate set of Floating Point routines. Has anyone created a modified A8 OS that integrates these improved FP routines? 5b) If yes, who/what/where? 5c) Would faster FP routines cause commercial software to misbehave (i.e. run faster than designed, become unstable or unpredictable, etc.)? 5d) If yes to 4b then I suppose the improved FP routines are of limited benefit. ref: https://atariwiki.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=FAST FLOATING POINT source code for the ATARI Thank you!!
  5. Has anyone made a Genesis repro with a Master System ROM on it, thus eliminating the need for a powerbase converter? I've checked around but I haven't been able to find any information on how to do this (if it's even possible).
  6. Need to quickly move out of my parents house and these are sadly among the assets being liquidated. Venmo, Cashapp or PayPal preferred payment methods. You will have to pay shipping because I do not have any money ? Both less than a year removed from being new and have been stored in a cool, dry, dark box. Covid stimulus impulse purchase liquidation sale, offer me an amount you think would be fair & can afford- if you do, it is yours. Jaguar Cart has 8 games, most of them are good and it can be re-programmed to your favorites if you have the know-how. Everdrive is an Everdrive. What you see is what you will get.
  7. Afternoon all... so i recently found and decided to hook up my old supradrive to my atari st to look at some old files on there (i`m a working musician and used the ST extensively during the 80`s / 90`s... upon power up i heard a bit of a "crack" from within the casing !!!! ... so i opened her up and a couple of chips on what looks like the controller board were fried ... a quick look on the web meant that i could source the affected chips still and relatively cheaply (hurrah!) ...BUT..... one of the affected chips seems to be a custom programmed EPROM.. and i was wondering if anyone has or knows where to get the file i need to re-burn the new chip as my drive is useless without it .... alternatively can anyone suggest an alternate housing i could source so i can swap the actual HD over ... see piccy`s for the lowdown ... affected chips are 74HCT240N X 1 Easily available S7407N X 1 " " PAL16L8ANC X 1 " " CUSTOM EPROM.. Thanks for any advice / help offered.. steve
  8. I’m restoring an Astrocade and would like to build a Balcheck. I’ve reviewed the plans and photos on Bally Alley (awesome website!). I’d like to create a PCB with parts that are currently in production. Can anyone recommend a modern alternative to the 2716 EPROM used on the Balcheck device? I’d prefer an EEPROM or Flash with very similar functionality. A quick search on Mouser returned the Microchip AT28C64B. It’s larger than need but I can ground the unused addresses A11 and A12. Also I have a TL866 so I can easily program it. Btw: could the AT28C64B work for a homebrew cartridge too? I figure all the other IC’s can be replaced by a single inexpensive MCU. I’ll post the Eagle files when I’m done. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
  9. Dear AtariAge forum Recently I found out interesting 3DO stuff. - In some Japanese 3DO FZ-1 theres is a single SOP44 ROM chip which does contain BIOS and Kanji fonts on the same package. The second ROM slot on the board is left blank. - SOP44 3DO ROM chips can be read as if they were 29LV160 chips (eg. AM29LV160**, MBM29LV**, MX29LV160**, ES29LV160**, HY29LV160**, the asterices being any letter) - BIOSes can be written on to AM29LV160DB and AM29LV160BB. Probably on the rest of the afore mentioned chips too. - The RSA check can be removed from the BIOS by changing the two occurrences of 000313A0000111A0 into 000313A0000011A0. It is important to leave the 000213A0000111A0 as it is. - Without RSA check all arcade games and unlicensed games will run on home console 3DOs - M2 games did not run on such systems yet and probably won't Member Tajigamer was a invaluable help during these explorations! Keep on preserving stuff, kind community! Ben
  10. I've just fixed an XEGS with a bad ROM and MMU, and have got it going temporarily by flashing four copies of the XEGS OS to a 27C128. Naturally it boots straight to the Self-Test, since there's no BASIC or Missile Command. I can't seem to find out what the ROM layout is supposed to be, however, on a 32K chip (i.e., is it BASIC, Missile Command, OS ROM, or OS ROM, Missile Command, BASIC?). Needless to say I've also been unable to locate a complete 32K dump of the XEGS ROM, otherwise I wouldn't be asking how to manually assemble one.
  11. I have 15 ST-branded M27C256B UV-erasable EPROMs and a Minipro TL866 chip programmer. The chips came as used off Ebay. When I try to program these chips, I get this: $ minipro -p "M27C256B @DIP28" -w cleurom2.bin -S Found Minipro TL866A v03.2.80 Chip ID OK: 0x208d Writing Code... OK Reading Code... OK Verification failed at 0x200: 0xc8 != 0x00 I thought that this was due to this particular variation of the 27c256 requiring more current than the Minipro burner could provide. So I bought a cable that has two male USB type A plugs on one end and a female type A jack on the other end. I've used variants of this for older hard drive enclosures that needed the extra current. This didn't help in the slightest. All of them fail programming in exactly the same way. Erasure goes fine. I've programmed several 27c256 chips from Texas Instruments with no problems. What's going on here? Am I better off simply trashing these chips?
  12. Just completed my 80-track Mod. Will thoroughly check all solder points before plugging in. Which I can't do until the weekend. Hope I done good. I took lots of photos, some might make good prints for wall art. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10206865163899614&set=a.2902404651182.2113402.1592441926&type=3
  13. Just curious. Anyone using EmuTOS on EPROM on real hardware? Sounds like quite a project. I watched some videos of it in action on YouTube. The only concern I could see was that DRI's GEM icons are not exactly attractive compared to the Atari's versions we're all familiar with.
  14. Hello at all TI99 friends.. i organized in Classic99 emulator many new software that was created from many people present here on Atari Age in many post. 15. Hello! I own a WILLEM-USB v1.5 EPROM programmer, and I can't find software, drivers or manuals. The official site willem.org does not longer exist, and although I googled and googled, I've found all Willem models but not this one. Not even an image. I've tested drivers and software for other Willem products but none of them worked. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  16. Can anyone (preferably in UK) burn the Atari 1050 US Doubler ROM to a couple of 2732 EPROMs for me? My EasyPro 90B programmer will handle 2764 and up, but doesn't have the juice for 21v EPROMs. Obviously I'll cover carriage, etc. The chips are pre-blanked. PM...
  17. Hello, I have had retro video game preservation no my mind recently, and am wondering how I could backup my atari 2600 and 5200 games with an eprom programmer. I'm fairly new to this kind of stuff, so if anyone could recommend an eprom programmer that is compatible with Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, that would be awesome. Any answer is appreciated!
  18. I'm selling some of my prototype/eprom cartridges... Here it is the first for Gameboy on Ebay... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 171568020077
  19. Hi, I picked up 3 Activision PAL Proto Label games (all working with typed top labels! which is nice) Pitfall II, Pressure Cooker and Robot Tank. Two have the same front label one has the Activision logo on it twice (Pitfall II) which I think is the gem of these Three. Some provenience is that the original owners friend used to work at Activision UK in Slough, Berkshire (Activision Europe Headquarters), were I found them. He was given them in the late 80s with tons of Activision games (so adds up) Plus I know my labels. So these games have only been in the hands of Activation staff members and surfaced from his friends cupboard recently. So none of these have ever been sold at auction or traded. . I didn't quiz the owner on the original owners staff name but works as a programmer today but in Java Script or whatever people use these days. I didn't really want to put too much attention on these, he just called them demos and said they might not work as one or two initially had a black screen when he loaded , so he almost didn't want to take my money but I after cleaning they are now all working (so I took a risk on these). oh and I didn't pay him peanuts for them; unless you call £90 ($150 derisory on untested/assume dead games in a lot). I didn't poach them on eBay the seller ended the auction because the consoles and some of the games were non working so was of course he was surprised when I offered £90 afterwards but I’m fair and not greedy, I'm a collector and Atari fan first! trader second. I have a few collectors names that deal in Protos in Europe so these will be up for trade elsewhere. (If I have no luck on here). I would be looking to trade on rare CIB games to collectors (not traders), a PAL CIB Espial would be nice (god that game is hard to find boxed - please revise rarity AA ; ), lab loaners and anything R7+ CIB or loose rare games and I’m willing to split this lot as I would say these have varied values, Pitfall II being the gem for me although the label is slightly faded on that one, the other Two have excellent labels. I'm not a Proto expert but I’ve collected for many years (historically in the thousands) but have slimmed my collection and I’m moving on to other things non Atari so I don't really need these on my shelf but was great to bring them back to life and to hold them (if only for a while). I'd rather these went to a collector that is as happy as I was to find them. I have a figure in my head on trade value and would prefer Private emails to atariattic@hotmail.co.uk unless your just adding info or being helpful. I've sadly noticed Trolls on Atari Age threads (come on guys really?) must of us are knocking on 40. Well I say "Trolls" but people making unhelpful and contrived comments to poach games or to put down other peoples trade offers. I just put up a trade on a BOMB! CIB "Great Escape" and although its not the ultra rare NTSC version (its rare to find complete even in PAL land) - the first response I got was "your no way going to get a CIB miner II" (that's for the person that might have a Spare Miner II and not have a CIB BOMB with mint cart. I consider that unhelpful advise. Not even a Hello! just "your not going to get what your asking!" I didn't even mention condition as I have not with regards to trades on these. It's up to the people offering trades to decide what they are willing to offer not the people that have nothing helpful to contribute. It's not like CIB BOMB (albeit PAL) is Space Invaders so trample on someone else's thread. Although these are Third-Party Protos, Activision pretty much showed Atari up on many games so it's nice to be holding a Pitfall II Proto which was programming a feat thanks to David Cranes Patented DPC (Display Processor Chip) Which I think was the only game that ever used that specific Indexing chip (not extra RAM or ROM carts; for which there are many) (I'll have to get better at Pitfall II to find out if it's the full version so will have the theme no doubt imbedded in my head for the next few days. I'll try not to have a nervous breakdown (or I could turn the volume down) solved! I'm welcoming helpful advice, trades, ROM identification (not sure these are EPROMS) they feel the same weight as standard carts and it's hard to see the ROM differences without opening them up, which I’m not keen to do but I know some of you might be able to identify the ROM without opening. All the games worked although Pitfall II needed a clean but it loaded after a few attempts, Pressure Cooker Seemed to end early but will try and play them all today but could be final versions, i'm not sure but they do have cat log numbers typed onto the top labels. I'm not claiming these are ultra rare but I think they are seldom found. Antony
  20. I recently came across 30+ what look like Atari 2600 EPROMS. They are black chips with two rows of pins on the back. The chips read Pitfall High; Pitfall Low; Worm War High; Worm War Low etc... Has anyone seen these before? I will post pics when I get home. OSG

Are these any good? http://www.ebay.de/itm/110832687398?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Thanks, Siegfried
  22. Thinking (again) about updating my LPT port eprom programmer. This seems like a very complete package. Anyone? Or alternatives for say under $150? http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-speed-true-USB-Universal-Programmer-TL866CS-Full-Pack-include-7PCS-adapters-/320967107440#vi-content Thanks, Larry
  23. Hi everyone, I was wondering and checking which Atari 2600 game carts I could open and re-use for my 4k homebrew. The idea would be to simple de-solder the EPROM (?) and replace it by a 2732, 2764, 27128 or whatever. Are there games known to have a pin compatible layout? I can burn these standard EPROMs but I would prefer not to produce new PCBs. Any ideas/suggestions/help appreciated Also if carts are known that require some changed wires or such -that would help. I am talking of very small numbers here, not mass-production of any kind. I.e. Star Voyager has some single chip on the PCB (no capacitors or such) that I fail to identify unfortunately. Thanks alot, Martin /enthusi
