  1. I have tried loading disk images off 4 different net sources and none will boot. I keep getting a "mount device error." Any ideas what's wrong?
  2. I received and cleaned-up a 1050 and XF551 today. Blew out the dust bunnies, lubricated the rails, cleaned the drive heads, gave the cases a bath, etc. Using a known good power supply and SIO cable I went to testing these one at a time. I could not get either one to boot from a DOS disk so I switched to a cartridge based DOS. I could not get either to read a disk so I tried to format a disk. Both drives set off to format, I hear the head stepping, I hear a write or two, long seek, more stepping, then both throw an error 144 ‘Device Done Error’ the bits of the error description that may apply are: ‘unable to read or write the requested sector’ OR caused ‘by variations in drive motor speed’ It seems so odd to me that both drives have such similar issues. Both were in their original foam and boxes but had likely been stored in hot and likely damp locations. Thanks in advance for troubleshooting advice and order of things to try.
  3. I've been in possession of a C64 with a 1541 drive for a while now, with very little complaints. However recent games I have purchased for it are making me question if I have bad disks or a stubborn drive. When I began using the drive for the first time - probably the first time the drive has been used in years - it would take 3-4 tries per disk in order to get it working. I even had a mint in the box copy of Space Harrier that I had to try loading a handful of times before it would work. But this would happen with a small handful of disks until they started loading on the first try, and they have been ever since. Most of the disks I've acquired loaded perfectly the first time I took a look at them. However, I'm somewhat concerned about certain disks I have, and I'm not sure if the drive is being stubborn, or if the disks are going bad. Here's what I've documented so far: Ghostbusters - Game works perfectly fine, but on the "Activision" load screen, the drive makes loud grinding / clicking noises, the kind it makes if you try to load a disk and you get a disk read error on the DOS screen. It makes this noise twice, then it goes silent for a while, then it makes it one last time a few moment before the title screen appears. I assumed it was normal, but now not so much. The game loads and plays perfectly fine, so I wasn't sure if it was part of the loading process or not. It's not a pleasant sound, regardless. Back to the Future Part 2 - I am able to get the title screen to load, with the intro animation and music, but when I hit the fire button, the screen goes into that color-changing loading state before it goes white. I can hear the disk spinning, but the head stops moving. It spins for a good few minutes before stopping altogether, leaving me locked on the white screen. A couple of times the screen went from white to black, but other than the color change, zero difference was made in how the drive behaved. Today I decided to try it again, and while it got stuck on the white screen, the drive kept on spinning. Another try brought me back to the DOS screen, which remained completely blank. Castle Wolfenstein: game appears to run fine, but I think I get a clue as to what's up with the disk drive. When I start a new game, on the second text intro screen, the drive makes that clicking noise, but only for a moment. The drive stops completely and at the bottom I get: Disk Error #20 read error, 30,16 Press any key to RETRY Luckily I got my hands on the 1541 manual...it says #20 means "Block header not found", so I assume memory blocks 30 and 16 are unreadable for one reason or another After pressing a key, then the game loads / plays normally. I played through the first few screens and tried to save the game, which did not work. The drive does the same thing as it did when loading a new game, making that momentary clicking noise, and then stopping. I get the following: Disk Error # ...which I find odd, since this gives me no reference number. Loading a previous save is like a dark joke, it appears to load normally, but what I get is a blank room. No doors, keys, or anything. Just you all by yourself, with ten bullets and a grenade. Kinda creepy. So yeah, I'm not sure what's going on, but I want to at least have an idea before I decide to dismantle the whole thing.
  4. Hello, I'm currently a newbie to Batari Basic and Visual bB for the Atari 2600 and had only begun to set up both programs. I installed both Batari Basic 1.5 and Visual bB build 568. So far according to the Windows 10 installation method I had extracted both zipped files and placed them together in a folder labeled "Atari2600". From there I launched the Visual bB configuration wizard and ran the install_win batch file. From there I am able to launch the Visual bB however I get error windows claiming to be script errors. I'm able to skip or ignore these messages and go into the program, from there everything appears to work as normal and I'm able to compile my code which at the moment has only been a playfield. When I test my code in the built in emulator, I'm then presented with an error regarding the file which will not allow me to run the code. Could I have possibly made an error while installing both programs or made an error with the configuration wizard? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
  5. While playing E2M2 on Jaguar Doom, my game froze and displayed a message which said: Apparently this is an extremely rare glitch that randomly occurs when a player treks on stairs. Here's a photo I took of it (sorry for the awful quality) https://imgur.com/a/tP0YEpC And here is a page describing what's going on: https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Stairs_create_unknown_sector_types Has anybody ever witnessed this? Apparently this has also happened in games such as Tower II and Strife. Seems to be an extremely rare glitch that is occurring. Has anyone ever run across this?
  6. I had purchased my Atari Flashback X from Amazon a couple of days ago and when I checked the "About section of the Atari Flashback X menu which has the two QR codes, the place where it would show the UID instead says "UID IS NOT AVAILABLE". What does this mean? Is my Atari Flashback X counterfeit/pirated or was it an error on AtGames' part. I hope that AtGames releases another firmware update to fix this problem if it is the latter.
  7. EDIT I FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX IT! Well. This is totally Embarrassing. I forgot to have a loop that constantly drew the screen. So yeah... You can ignore this post. So. Here I am. I have been having random errors with Batari Basic for 3 months. All of those prior ones were ALL my fault. And this is a whole new animal. (Screenshots below) I really don't know what to do. I followed the instructions made by Random Terrain exactly as it said. And maybe the tutorial is right and maybe I missed something. But I don't know... And I'm really starting to get annoyed with this. If anyone out there can help me I would really appreciate it. Because I don't know what I'm doing and I'm truly stuck. Thanks for reading this. Have a good day.
  8. I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this, but ! Here goes ! I recently found a good emulator for the NEC PC6001. I need it to complete a video for my youtube channel but I'm having difficulties getting it to run a .cas image for pac-man that I found on Archives.org. I have't been able to find an alternate image of this game anywhere online. I do know it exists because of this. http://p6ers.net/hashi/emupacman.html I've tried to make it work in Mess & with PC6001VW Emulator to no avail. Anyone know where I can get an alternate rom image to work with this emulator. Because so far I'm turning up nothing in my searches. Attached are the clips I currently have.
  9. I read Jac's website and also watched the installation videos. I downloaded Jac's pre-made installation into C:\jac\wudsn. When I run Eclipse, I get this error. I tried going to the Eclipse website to download Eclipse but there are so many choices, I don't know which to download. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
  10. I tried downloading and installing 5 different versions of Stella, and I also installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable that they require (both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions), and no matter what when I double-click the .exe I keep getting a message saying, "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b), Click OK to close the application." I have Windows 7 64-bit on my notebook, and have downloaded and used emulators for so many different systems in the past, but for some reason I can never seem to figure out how to get Stella to work. Do you happen to have any idea what I am doing wrong?
  11. Good afternoon all, I have just picked up an old Phat PS2 PAL model. I am getting disc read errors on PS2 games, PS1 games and audio discs. I did briefly manage to get a PS2 game to load, but it eventually locked up on the title screen when left alone. I know the discs are all fine because I play them on another console that I have. I was just wondering what could be the cause of this and if its not too expensive I may attempt to repair/replace myself. Many thanks for your help!
  12. Hi there guys, so after talking to some of my friends about the problems with my 1040 STe, we wernt able to figure out whats wrong, so they suggested that I post on here and see if anybody can help me. Basically, almost every game I try to load either gives me a black screen after the main screen or it shows bombs or goes red and freezes. Ive only owned my owned my Atari 1040 STe for about 5 month and Ive only gotten some games for it in the last 2 weeks, so I dont have much of history with it. Here are a couple videos I uploaded to youtube that can probably show you better than I can describe. https://youtu.be/Nj1wB4KnbUg https://youtu.be/76pGk_AkMAI Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  13. I downloaded visual batari basic today and when i went to compile and run it said could not locate default.bas.bin, Please check to make sure it was compiled correctly. Anyways i could fix this? Thanks
  14. I finally went and bought myself a PEB, listed as untested, and complete with RS-232, Disk Controller, and 32K cards. And as seems to be usual with untested systems, it doesn't work. (at least not entirely) I typed in the following program listed in the Disk Memory System manual, in order to test the drive: 100 OPEN #1:"DSK1.X" 110 CLOSE #1 The LED on the controller lit up for a fraction of a second, but the drive itself was lifeless, with me getting an I/O ERROR 00. The manual, however, says that I should normally get an I/O ERROR 06, and that 00 means that the drive could not be found. For what it's worth, the drive spins up when the PEB is first powered on, and the LED on the drive lights up when shutting it off. Where should I start with troubleshooting this? (BTW, I thought that members here were exaggerating about how loud the PEB's fan is; turns out it really is that loud )
  15. I have a '99 that I fitted with a F18a some months back. I've used it a good many hours without issue, and some of that was online through TIMXT with a WiFi232 -- so the keyboard has been working fine. I'd not used the TI in a few weeks and turned it on and noticed in the FlashROM '99 menu that certain keys were not working. Those keys are: HJKL; and SPACE Press normal, hard, etc. and they don't register -- TI BASIC, TIMXT, Forth, etc. But, I left the machine on for a while and I notice they keys now do work...but you need to press them just a little harder than "normal" for them to trigger, and when you do, they usually repeat a few times. One depress of 'K' results in 'KKKK' and such. So something is really strange here. I assume the hardware heating up is the change, but the repeat action baffles me. Can anyone make anything out of this? I see no other oddities with the system. I disconnected my PEB and that had no effect on the situation. Is this a specific IC failing? Or...? Thanks. bp
  16. Posting from my phone on vacation, so I will add more details and attach examples later... However, this is really bugging me and I wanted to get your thoughts... While going through all my old disks I decided i'd like to finish some uncompleted games that I had started back when I was a kid in the early 80's. but I ran into a problem with several of the files. These are all in standard atari basic by the way. When I try to load the problematic files it results in: READY READY (two "ready" messages) and then when I say LIST there is no code to view, and RUN does nothing, like there is nothing in memory. The files show up in DOS directory and seem normal size, etc. I have found I can load them into memopad as an imported basic tokenized file, but not sure what good that really does for me...at least it seems to indicate that the data is there and can be read. I am thinking something in the basic tokenized file got corrupted. I remember "back in the day" running into this READY READY thing with nothing to LIST even on some commercial software ( like Avalon Hill games or something like that which were in basic) and I assumed they were doing something intentionally to protect the code. Anyway, I'd appreciate any help or advice. It would be cool to finish some of these games I started on so long ago but I am stuck for now. I will attach some example files later after I get back to a PC. Thanks!! Eric
  17. I have DOSBOX and I noticed that while picking through the graphics modes for CALGAMES, it won't do some graphics modes correctly and instead display garbage graphics. Examples: Tandy 1000 mode, and Hercules monochrome mode(This mode doesn't display garbage graphics, instead nothing displays at all). Why is this? Also, I got the zip files for the enhanced floppy disk version(aka MS-DOS Version 2) of Maniac Mansion, but all the things I tried won't make the enhanced version boot at all! Instead, I still get the standard DOS version that uses the 5160 speaker for sound and music.
  18. Hi all, I have a problem with my atari 4160ste, it suddenly started to stop booting. It was working fine, except the floppy drive which was dead, so I bought a replacement one and then everything was perfect for a day and suddenly I got this bomb screen on start up. I have no idea what is causing this, I checked all the chips and stuff inside to look for a dodgy connexion or anything suspicious but it all looks OK and since it was working 5 min before I wonder what could have gone wrong all of a sudden. It sometimes starts if I force reset several time, most of the time it turn it on and get no sound at all, like its not even trying, but if I reset it a couple times sometimes with a floppy inside, it will eventually load the game or come back to the TOS environment. I have no knowledge whatsoever in electronics and computer components, I can just see that all the connexion seem fine on my boards. Could be a dodgy ram upgrade from previous user ? but it was working everytime before and all looks in good working order. Any idea what could be causing this ? Advice most welcome. cheers!
  19. Started using Harry Wilhelm's XB compiler (which is a great compiler) but came across a bug that most people may never come across but took me a while to figure out what was wrong. In XB you can assign a value to two or more variables with a comma. a.k.a. x=0::y=0 can be x,y=0 when i was compiling and old program the compiler kept locking up on this one line. after a while of trying everything I changed x,y=0 to x=0::y=0 on the line. turned out to be the problem and the compiler continued on. i.e. don't use commas for multiple variable definition. Just an FYI if ever you come across the same problem.
  20. Anybody able to pull up Atarimania's page right now? I just get this and some other error information: @ Que s'est-il passé ? Erreur de l'accès natif MySQL. Numéro d'erreur = 22 L'erreur suivante a été renvoyée par la base données : Numéro d'erreur = <145>. Message d'erreur : Table '.\atarimania\tb_version' is marked as crashed and should be repaired Code erreur : 73001 Niveau : erreur non fatale (EL_ONRETURN) Code erreur WD55 : 3001
  21. Has anyone else experienced errors while trying to copy files to their HDX server? I can reproduce it every time doing these steps: (Assume cable, HDX board, and Server are working - which AFAIK they are, as everything else works) 1) Launch DM2K (v2.5b) on TI with Editor/Assembler 2) Source: "DSK1." 3) Select ALL files (contains about 18 files <180k) 4) Hit Proc'd 5) Choose Copy 6) Destination: "HDX1." It will start to copy files to the HDX server and I can see records being transferred. But in the middle of a randomly chosen point of a file; HDX will crash/hang/unresponsive. Within a few seconds DM2K will report "error 6: Opendst [Device error]" At this point, I'm dead in the water. HDX server is hung, I have to force it to close and get the Windows message of application in not responding. This ONLY happens when copying files TO the HDX server using DM2K. But then, I don't have any other method to "copy" files to and from the HDX server to compare against. Can anyone with a fully functioning HDX server try this; and tell me if it fails or works for them? The goal is to copy my utilities disk (DSK1) to HDX1 but I can't get it there!!!! TIA! -Dano
