After a 10-month quest full of rabbit holes and red herrings see attached updated FinalGrom99 firmware to make it run on the QI as well as on the non-QI. At this stage it has been tested by a couple of members with mostly positive results; one member was unable to get the update to run on either console. I suspect this could be a problem with the SD card, FG99 is quite finicky with these (Ralph mentions this on his website as well). Another member had the same problem initially but after switching to another SD all is well. Anyway, if you can please test this firmware on either a QI, non-QI or (even better) on both and report back the results. FG99 is an awesome cartridge, the QI is a great console so the two should be finally able to meet ? Instructions: - make sure SD card is either FAT or FAT32 formatted - save update CPLD file as UPDATE.PLD file in / of the SD card - stick SD card in FG99 and press reload button - LED lights up for a while - after LED turns off remove SD card - delete UPDATE.PLD file - reset FG99 - save update AVR file as UPDATE.AVR file in / of the SD card - stick SD card in FG99 and press reload button - LED lights up shortly - after LED turns off remove SD card - delete UPDATE.AVR file - stick SD card back in FG99 - reset FG99 Cheers and thanks! I'm currently doing some experiments with FG99 usage in Stevie. Basically what I want to do is store my program settings and add the possibility to backup editor text to the FG99. That way I can take the final grom cartridge, plug it into my other TI-99/4a (which also has SAMS ofcourse) and continue working there. That should be possible by creating an appropriately sized cartridge image and by using the advanced mode as described here: https://endlos99.github.io/finalgrom99/ (Yes, I am aware I can accomplish the same by saving my files to TIPI, but that's not the purpose of this excercise) ? Anyway, the thing is, that as it stands now the final grom isn't supported in any of the popular emulators (js99er, classic99, mame, ...) So I need a way to detect if I have a final GROM cartridge and enable programs options accordingly. Is there a way to detect if there is a FG99 cartridge present? Obviously it would be cool if any of the emulators would support FG99, but as long as that isn't the case I need to find an alternative.

My PC has failed (this posted on borrowed pc!) and with local lock down in place it is time to look at the TI99/4a tasks. First up- running TOD from FG99 without disk or cassette. My son has been working hard coding for me, and we have it working in emulator (v9t9) but the real ironware is causing problems. First job done- amended the TOD bin by adding an autoloader so that todg.bin would load todc.bin and move it into vdp - this uses the normal TI Files data files for Tunnels of Doom, no problem, even though my v9t9 required the todc.bin to be split into two smaller files (8k limit). The new autoloader has to do a bank switch- it loads the first 8k of data, switches banks and then loads the rest. This all works with emulator. (Two bank switching methods tried and both run with v9t9). With real iron and fg99 I am getting what is apparently vdp screen corruption, ultimately crashing - unfortunately the way that TOD moves data around is very complex. So- what differences could there be between emulator and fg99? Any pointers on what to look at? It is of course on fg99 that I need this to work- then we can have pairs of bin files for each adventure. The save to disk and tape is still available. I have run the fg99 memory tests and they are all ok. Sample files for Pennies attached to have a look at. s PENNIESC.BIN PENNIESG.BIN

Many of us here on Atari Age have P-Box's. Many of us also have RS-232 cards, but what about users without RS-232 cards or HxC's? How are they going to get new software to their disk drives? RS-232's are starting to get rare and more expensive, all while the TI user base is continually growing, so what about an alternative method? I'm wondering if at some point in the future a "virtual diskette" could be made on the PC, similar to the method used to make them for the NanoPEB or CF7? Sure, this disk would probably be 'read only' and considering the way the FG99 operates, this disk would probably operate like an executable program that would transfer its contents to the users disk drive. The new FinalGROM 99 is 512K, factoring the embedded programs overhead it should still be able to transfer a decent amount of data to users drives. Fact is, for most users 360K is max, so this could do a whole disk at one time for most people.

Hello- now that I have done a great deal of the docs for Advertiser, readily available for emulators- how to get it to the real console? It is gpl only, 8k. The Advertiser module does not have a menu entry, which causes difficulties with Finalgrom, which fails to see it. Is it possible to "fool" Finalgrom with an empty menu entry of some sort, edited into the bin file?? I have tried an SDHC card with JUST Advertiser on it and Finalgrom sees it as an empty card. Is there anyone here with the ability and knowledge to amend the binary currently available for MESS (advertizer.rpk at http://atariage.com/forums/topic/227928-advertizer-phm-3063-what-is-it-and-how-is-it-used/?hl=%2B3063&do=findComment&comment=3037728) Thanks

We all know a TIPI is in many of our futures. As hobbyists, we seem to find ways to exploit and improve our 'big boy toys' by giving them new applications and capabilities. WiFi capability on the Raspberry Pi is no big deal, but once it's hooked up to a TIPI... it makes all these TI's WiFi capable! So, what are we TI hobbyists gonna do? Well, the old X10 command module for the TI is almost unobtanium, but with WiFI there are all kinds of switches and outlets currently available to make a home automation system a modern reality on the TI. As usual, one component is missing... THE PROGRAM! Can you imagine a WiFi controller program stuffed in a FinalGROM controlling everything from the TI? Sounds like fun to me! Hoping that Ralph can chime in on this. My question is, if it's possible to detect if there is a finalgrom99 installed ? That would be intereresting if you'd like to use the more advanced features like writing to RAM/GRAM. -
Another TI user made a GREAT comment about not cluttering up another persons thread with off-topic chit-chat about an OS for the TI. With that in mind, I thought why not start a new thread and see where it leads us. With the FinalGROM 99 on the horizon, now has never been a better time to start exploring options. With one megabyte of memory, and GROM capability, nearly anything seems possible. One thing is certain, as something like this grows and evolves, anyone will be able to download and install any new version within seconds. Since there is no doubt how popular this cartridge will be, I'm pretty confident the potential user base will be quite respectable. Since an OS suggests 'disk access', we know the target audience will already have either a P-Box, Nano-PEB or some other variant to save data, but what about video requirements? A large percentage of this demographic also runs F18A's, so would it not be wise to consider that a standard item as well?
