  1. My friend gave me an Atari for my son to play with, but it keeps freezing. I can scroll a couple pages on the home screen when browsing games, but after I pass through like 5 or 6 games it freezes and it makes that sound the old Nintendo used to make when it would freeze. Sometimes I can select a game but it freezes immediately, and sometimes I can select a game then it freezes when I push start or after 1 minute or so of playing. Every time it freezes I have power it off and back on and it keeps happening, I've had it almost a week and haven't been able to pay a single game on it with my kid yet. I have the yellow and white plugs correctly plugged into the back of my TV, and the power cord and DC are both plugged in..I'm using a 12V DC though because I don't have any 5V, which is labeled under the DC jack on the console. So I started looking for firmware to update it, then realized I don't even know what kind of Atari Flashback it is, it looks like the flashback 3 after searching Google images..but it's not labeled, it just says Atari flashback classic game console. It has a gold stripe on the front top and the joysticks do not have the 3 red buttons on the side of the base, just the fire button on top and the joystick. All the firmware updates I've skimmed say to plug a USB into the console, but my console does not have any USB ports , only the 2 joystick ports on the front and the 1 DC jack on the back next to the power cord which doesn't come out. I've attached photos because I know one of the experts here will know what kind it is by seeing it. 🕹️ Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated!! 🙂 Can someone please tell me what kind of Atari this is so I can get the correct firmware to update it if needed? Anyone else experience this problem, what was your fix??
  2. Greetings Atarians! For those who have been asking, here is my customized firmware image for the Atari Gamestation Pro. This is along the same lines as the custom firmwares I have produced for Atari Flashback devices. It allows you to add games and box art from the SD card to the Gamestation Pro menu and perform other customizations. The filename is Firmware-c.img and you install it using the same method for the official 1.30 firmware. On successful install it will update your version number to 1.30c To use the new firmware features your SD card should be formatted as exFAT. The custom firmware will not function correctly with FAT32 currently. The firmware is activated by detecting a "mount_sd.ini" file on the sd card in the /agsp directory. Extract /agsp folder from the attached agsp.zip archive to your sd card. When the firmware sees the mount_sd.ini file inside this folder it will dump the internal /data partition to the sd card and remount it there. The data folder will contain all of the system's game roms and boxart as well as the games.db file for the menu. Dumping data takes about 40s with my sd card, a Sandisk Extreme UHS-I card that can write up to 90MB/s. You will see the Loading screen while it is busy writing. If you are using an old/slow SD card then the operation may take longer for you. Give it up to 5-10 minutes in the extreme. After dumping the /data partition (if it is not already present on the sd card), the firmware will run the startup.sh script in the agsp folder on the card. This script will detect if a games.ini file needs to be generated (ie /data/games.ini doesn't exist). It will run a simple SQL command piped to an awk script to spit out the .ini file. If the games.ini file does exist, the script will read the first value in the file, "update_db". If this value is set to 1 then the script will run a couple of SQL statements to truncate the db tables and execute a small binary utility, ini2gamedb, to import the ini file contents back into games.db. It will then clear the update_db flag back to 0 in the games.ini file. Finally there is a dump_retro flag in mount_sd.ini. Set it and the script will extract retroarch binary and cores to a folder on the sd_card. This does not really activate them from the sd card, but will enable the community to play around with using or modifying them as they see fit. This is more a proof-of-concept of what can be done. You can modify the startup.sh script as needed, but you'll need to test what works correctly with the busybox variant of ash shell. Similarly the game launch script "start_local_sd.sh" will now be located under /data on the sd card. The support for sourcing runme.sh from /agsp from the earlier patched firmware is still present, but you can modify it however you wish. Of course if you break this script then your games won't launch. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adding games should be fairly straightforward. For each game to display in the menu add a new ini section to /data/games.ini file. The section name should match the rom file name exactly. Fill in the rest of the ini sections, copying values from similar existing games where necessary. For the "about" and "controls" sections, these are text bodies for display in the UI game description screen. For larger entries that span multiple lines or have line breaks for formatting you need to be sure to start and end the content with a double quote ("). The ini converter generally should ignore entries it does not understand, but if anything goes wrong it should write a small log file under /data. Here is a sample of a new game entry added to the new games.ini file: [Pac-Man] display_name=Pac-Man suffix=.a26 release_date=1981 players=1 OR 2 class_type=1 game_type=5 hard=0 save=1 timer=/data/Games/Atari_Games/Atari 2600 about="We know that millions of people all over the world just love the PAC-MAN arcade game. PAC-MAN has won the hearts of men, women, and children everywhere. We also know that PAC-MAN has traditionally been an arcade game. Well, we at ATARI know all about arcade games. After all, we make some of the greatest arcade games in the world, and we know how to bring the same dynamite game play into your home." controls=Press A, then use the Joystick. vertical=0 Some of the fields are pretty obvious. The section name must match the rom file name, although it can contain spaces. The display name can be prettier. The path to the rom location for some weird reason is called "timer". The game_type should correspond to what has been documented in the discussion threads already, and as found in the game launch script. The class_type and hard fields are a little more obscure. We have attached some information (thanks @Vic20Ian ), but the community may have to experiment with those. Generally just try to copy values from similar types of games. I am also providing a .csv dump of the original tbl_game table from games.db. Remember to set the games.ini "update_db" value to 1 (first line of file) any time you want to import new custom entries into the games.db file on startup. Place the matching rom file in the appropriate folder under /data/Games. Co-located with the game are the menu images. They each share the same file name as the rom. There is a .png image for the box art, a .jpg image for the screen shot, and a <GameName>_title.png image for the title banner text/graphic. Any new games added to the system should have corresponding image files of the same/matching size. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have tried to make my implementation reasonably resilient and recoverable, but issues may still occur. If you somehow create a really bad ini file or corrupt the games.db file (not likely but possible) there are different things you can do. Delete the /data/games.ini file and the startup script will generate a new one from games.db. Delete the /data/games.db and the system will copy the default one back to the sd card /data folder on startup. Delete or rename the entire /data folder and the system will regenerate it on startup so long as it sees the /agsp/mount_sd.ini file. Delete or rename the /agsp folder or mount_sd.ini file, or remove the sd card, and the system will just run off of the default internal /data partition and stock configuration. The functionality related to using a /Games folder on the sd card should remain unaffected. Also it is not known how many games you can add to the UI before it starts to encounter any loading or performance issues. No promises, no warranties. Use this firmware at your own risk. But I hope the community gets some utility out of it for enhancing their Atari Gamestation Pros. Firmware-c.img agsp.zip game_type.txt class_type.txt tbl_game_202401280228.csv
  3. People have been asking me for a version of my CFW for the Atari Flashback 12, which is fundamentally similar/same as the AFB 50th but technically a different sku with some minor software differences. I do not own one of these units and have no way to test a custom firmware or provide full support. However, since people have asked I have made a version of my cfw for AFB12 and attached here for any brave soul who wants to try it out. I would refer you to prior threads about the AFB X and 50, since the procedure is fundamentally the same. Please apply the official AFB12 (AR3080B) 1.1.1 firmware to your device first (https://firmwareupdate.atgames.net/). The CFW will install on top of it. Extract the atari_update.img file to your USB flash device, attach to the AFB12 via OTG cable, boot up and follow the update procedure. After reboot, power off and delete the update image file. IF I did this correctly then you should have the same custom behavior as provided by firmwares for earlier Flashback versions. The rom dumping behavior is still triggered by the presence of an empty mount_sd.ini file on your USB drive, and you can also still deploy custom startup.sh scripts, or try out the Nexus packages. No warranties, guarantees, use at your own risk, yadda yadda. Good luck! AFB12_AR3080B_CFW_1.1.1.zip
  4. Fujinet users with U1MB and SIDE3 may wish to update their PBI BIOS with a version which fixes a high-speed polling bug when HSIO is applied to 'All' devices. Special thanks to @fenrock.
  5. AtGames recently released an updated firmware for the Atari Flashback 50th Anniversary Gold unit to address paddle response issues. Here is a patched version of that firmware with my changes to support Nexus, or hand-customized roms and boxart in the main games menus. You should apply this on top of the new AtGames firmware. IE, apply the AtGames firmware upgrade first, then this one. I did not ship everything that was in the updated firmware, just the minimal partitions I had to patch. I don't really use my FB50, but I briefly tested it to confirm the unit was still working with this firmware and allowed me to launch Pac-Man from my own customized menu. This should restore Nexus package support as before. I don't think you'll have any problems if you are using a decent storage device, but let me know if you run into anything weird. You can apply this firmware by simply extracting to an attached USB storage device and booting the AFB unit. Remove the firmware file after patching. Please refer to this thread for further details: https://forums.atariage.com/topic/346547-atari-flashback-50th-anniversary-custom-firmware-for-usb-roms-and-boxart/ Standard disclaimer: Use at your own risk, etc. AFB50_GOLD_AR3080_V1.1_CFW.zip
  6. Hi. Total noob to Jaguar GD (obvi after you read below) Finally getting to install FW on my GD which I bought when AA first started selling them a few years ago now, so I have one of the first I believe with 3d Printed Case. Long story short, I had a few surgeries, deaths in the family and always said, "yeah, I'll get to it after all this calms down". Well, now that we're waiting for new games on AA still and it's cold out, I said to myself, "Now is the time for the Jaguar GD setup"! Background: my Jaguar works normally fine - I have a few OG carts and also Gravitic Mines from AA and enjoy them immensely! I followed the GD instructions first time I installed the cart into my Jag and downloaded my first time FW download from the QR code on the screen per instructions. I put it on a memory card (SanDisk 32Gb ultra microSDHC UHS-I formatted FAT32) and installed it into the GD case. For some reason I thought I needed to press Option during boot. I think I confused this with later upgrades needing to do this. Well, anyways, I pressed the option button during boot up, the cart's red light went on, then off. I let off the option button and just see the Red Jaguar logo on the screen. No menu systems or anything. Turned off / on again, same thing - Jaguar logo. I'm pretty sure I screwed up. Is there any hope? Please help
  7. I'm pleased to announce the release of the version 4.0 firmware update for U1MB, Incognito, SIDE2, SIDE3, 1088XEL, and 1088XLD. The update includes a redesigned SIDE loader, and completely redesigned BIOS plugins with support for SIDE3, Sophia 2, and PokeyMAX. Also newly introduced is support for an NTSC colour palette in VBXE (loaded transparently when the machine is turned on). User documentation has also been comprehensively updated, with sections covering the new SIDE3 loader and Incognito. Most excitingly, Incognito is now capable of supporting firmware plugins, subject to release of a CPLD JED update which I have been testing for Candle. The SIDE3 loader is now capable of native PDM (FujiConvert) playback as well (see the manual for discussion of all new features). https://atari8.co.uk/ultimate-1mb-firmware-update-4-0-released/ Since I spent the entirety of Saturday preparing and uploading all this stuff (after spending the previous day moving my website and work emails), I'll forego further disucssion for the moment, and hopefully answer any questions as we go on. I will probably make a video showing a topical overview of what's been released as well. All ROMs inlclude the newly released SpartaDOS X 4.49e; I thought we might as well get in sync with the SIDE3 ROM, which uses this version by default. Meanwhile, SpartaDOS 3.x, Bewe-DOS and RealDOS users can find RTC drivers for U1MB and SIDE3 on the APT toolkit disk. I would not be surprised if I screwed something up while preparing the files here, so if anything looks anomalous, please let me know. Likewise, please use this thread to discuss any installation or usability issues. The menus in the setup menu and loader are quite different now (many controls are 'modal' to facilitate interactive facilities via callbacks), but this actually makes things like setting the clock quite a bit easier. Feedback from testers of pre-release versions (indeed, some variation of this firmware has found its way onto all U1MB and Incognito machines which have been through my hands these past few months) has been positive, so hopefully the only work that remains to do will involve minor bug fixes. Meanwhile, now that this update is released, I hope to focus on ambitious new features in the SIDE3 loader, such as FAT write capability, more media playback support, and auto-mounting media. Update (060621) Thanks to Doug_in_NC on Discord for immediately spotting that I'd broken joystick trigger handling in main BIOS 4.02 for U1MB and Incognito. Fixed in 4.03, so please head over to the firmware section and update (U1MB/1088 users may update the 'FIRMWARE.ROM' file, and Incognito users need flash only 'IBIOS.ROM'). Blog post: https://atari8.co.uk/u1mb-and-incognito-firmware-4-0-bug-fix/ The 'complete' ROM images also have the update (disregard file creation date). SIDE3 Loader Update (230621) For those who already updated their SIDE3 loader or are yet to do so, please be sure to download version 0.40, which fixes MegaCart, Sic! and AtariMax 1Mbit/8Mbit emulation bugs. https://atari8.co.uk/firmware/side3/ Update (070721) Blog post: https://atari8.co.uk/u1mb-incognito-1088xel-and-1088xld-firmware-update/
  8. #FujiNet #Atari8bit Now that libssh2 is embedded into the code and is compiling, I have added a ticket to add an SSH protocol adapter, if anyone wants to try their hand at it. https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-platformio/issues/439 I especially want someone else to do this, so that they can point out to me how incredibly brain damaged my approach is, and hopefully we can make it better.
  9. For anyone who can help. FujiNet needs to be able to support TELNET connections properly. We need a library that fits into lib/ that can be jumped into when enabled, and when an $FF byte is received. Once inside, it starts a state machine that parses IAC control code sequences, you can see some of these when you run a telnet client with option processing: $ telnet.exe telnet> set option on Will show option processing. telnet> open tnfs Trying 192.168.1.12... 10. I am pleased to announce the release of version 3.10 of the Ultimate 1MB, Incognito and SIDE firmware, incorporating the recently released SpartaDOS X 4.49, and version 4.0 of the SDX 'soft-driver' for SIDE, MYIDE, and Colleen. Updated APT tools and user documentation are also provided. What's New As well as several minor bug fixes, this release brings with it numerous performance, stability and usability improvements. Some highlights: Loader's recursive search speed improved by 25 per cent. Optional keyboard/joystick acceleration feature in loader speeds up navigation of long directories Long filename extensions now remain on-screen even while filename is scrolling left to right Card hot-swap reliability improved Card compatibilty improved ATR swap button now works in loader Loader issue with SD/CF adapters fixed Stereo POKEY detection now compatible with SimpleStereo v3 ATR swap button can now be disabled on the Incognito Better boot drive handling (fixes issues with some boot loaders run from FAT-hosted ATRs) Improved DCB error checking in PBI BIOS and support for immediate-mode IO XF551 high-speed SIO bug fixed Regression regarding CONFIG.SYS boot drive setting fixed FDISK large volume/disk bug fixed Please see the changelogs for the main BIOS, PBI BIOS and SIDE Loader for a complete list of changes. To download the updates, please visit the atari8 firmware page. SDX 4.49 Thanks to DLT, we have the welcome release of SpartaDOS X 4.49. Unfortunately the ROMs hosted on the official SDX site were put together before I released the updated APT tools and SDX soft-drivers. As ever, however, SDX ROMs for all platforms are included in the new firmware release, with the extra tools I like to provide (notably the LSDEV and LSDSK utilities on the CAR: volume). Note the plethora of ATR disk images I provided in prior updates has been done away with; all ROMs for U1MB and Incognito are included on the corresponding 'FIRMWARE.ATR' disk image. This makes the preparation of subsequent updates a little less labour intensive. Please look at the updated README files in the ZIP archives for complete descriptions of the archive contents. I hope you enjoy the updated firmware and tools, and as always I welcome feedback including bug reports and feature suggestions (although we are rapidly reaching the end of the road when it comes to available code space on the existing hardware). Donations are likewise welcomed and appreciated, although they are by no means obligatory. Special thanks to Lotharek at lotharek.pl for his continued provision of Candle O'Sin's fabulous U1MB, SIDE2 and Incognito devices, and for offering my firmware pre-installed at the point of sale. Please continue to support his invaluable efforts and accept no substitute. As usual, please use this thread to discuss any issues so I can address them as efficiently as possible. Since there is barely any code space left, the idea here is to have a milestone release with no known bugs. All issues known about since version 3.02 have been addressed, but since there have been a fair amount of changes and additions, there's always the possibility of another minor point release. We shall see.
  11. hello all! I am having trouble with the keyboard using the flash floppy on my gotek. when i use F1 to search for files if it type: Q comes out as A W comes out as Z A comes out as Q Z comes out as W M doesn't work Attached is a photo with the version i am using. Any advice?
  12. I am looking for good info on hacking the C64 DTV into a proper working Commodore 64 system. Ten or more years later, a lot of the old links with necessary diagrams, firmware and instructions are dead. I have owned the original joystick model for years and recently found a Hummer Offroad plug and play game in a local thrift. The Hummer game seems like a good candidate to modify, as the game-play itself isn't great and I seem to remember it being a revised version of the original Jeri Ellsworth design. What I am wanting to do, at minimum, is to solder on a ps/2 keyboard port and a serial port to use with a real 1541 floppy drive.
  13. I did some hacking yesterday and was able to package my own custom firmware in order to get SD card roms and box art fully integrated into the main menu screen. See anything interesting? I am also able to remove or suppress any of the built-in ROMs that I might not want. I did a simple test of suppressing the non-original version of Frogger that ships with the console. Now I can't take all of the credit. I mean, I did do a lot of hacking, and I did use a bunch of arcane Linux tools and commands to unpack, customize and re-pack this firmware. But I'm sure to nobody's surprise it turns out that the Atari Flashback 9 and the AtGames Sega Genesis Flashback 2018 are virtually the same hardware and system. They just run different emulators and have different roms and creative content for menus. So people have already been hacking that system and already found this same approach. I had already unpacked and was poking around the official firmware image and thinking about my options when I stumbled across this thread: https://gbatemp.net/threads/custom-firmware-for-sega-flashback-2018.523590/page-5 I followed the whole thread, and from reading it I "reverse engineered" what they were doing. These guys came up with an ingenious approach, so I am simply following their lead for the Atari Flashback 9. Basically it works like this: 1. There is a /rom NAND flash partition that contains all of the built-in .a26 roms, box art, a few sound files and the all-games.ini file which configures the menu items. 2. The new firmware I developed inserts a script that unmounts the /rom partition and re-mounts it to a /rom folder on the SD card. This is driven by the presence of a control file on the SD card. Delete the control file or remove the SD card and the unit will simply mount the internal /rom partition and as per normal. So not permanent change. 3. The latest official firmware included the entire /rom partition contents. it's possible to dump the NAND flash from the device, but it wasn't necessary as I was able to extract it from the official firmware. 4. I copied the extract /rom partition contents to the /rom folder on my SD card. 5. Now I can add custom .a26 rom files and corresponding box art and then add the necessary entries to the all-games.ini file, which will populate the menu item and descriptive info page. So in short I am "hiding" the internal /rom partition and loading all roms, box art and rom config file from the SD card. In that Sega thread somebody also started to build a nice GUI tool to manage the somewhat daunting task of editing the .ini file for all the new game rom entries. It's something I will probably be looking to borrow/steal/copy for the Atari Flashback (I'm a software developer by trade). It would also be cool if the community could somehow edit and contribute all these ini file entries and maybe box art to a common repository. I was originally poking around looking at the menu and emulator binaries that are included in the official firmware, seeing if there was anything interesting I could learn or modify with a hex editor. I also had in mind to do some reverse engineering. In theory I could flash the device to run a fully custom UI and/or emulator, although there are some tight limitation in the NAND partition sizes. Let's not get carried away or get ahead of ourselves yet. I think I will get another FB9 to do some more hacking, so I don't accidentally bork my working unit. Also the regular non-Gold FB 9 HD would need a slightly different firmware to retains its UI. I'm going to look at making a leaner CFW that doesn't redistribute roms, but I could maybe post something in a few days if there is interest.
  14. I'm pleased to announce the release of firmware version 3.02 for the Ultimate 1MB, Incognito, 1088XEL/XLD and SIDE/SIDE2. Since the update's primary purpose is to correct issues present in the version 3.00 and earlier released, it is highly recommended for all users. Please head over to the firmware page of my website to download the updates: https://atari8.co.uk/firmware/ New Features (over version 2.01) Include: Number of BIOS configuration profiles increased from three to four Massively faster and more powerful loader search facility Loader’s built-in FAT DOS now supports subdirectories Loader now remembers the last accessed FAT folder Loader scripts may include paths Loader can now open the location of any already mounted image Usability improvements to the loader and BIOS setup menu Optional synthetic ‘IO sound’ with ATRs and hard disk partitions Improved loader compatibility Auto-booting banked cartridge conversions on SIDE/SIDE2 Bug Fixes For users who previously updated to version 3.00 in July, the following fixes/changes have been implemented: Loader Fixed: Unnamed FAT entries missing from partition list Fixed: Selected entry not consistently tracked during search Fixed: SIDE2 displayed as 'SIDE1' in stand-alone loader's device menu Fixed: Logged directory cluster number corrupted after MAP file processing Changed: Boot drive override (to D1:) now issued on restart if a disk image exists on drive 1 (instead of immediately after mount operation) Changed: No boot drive override issued when 'Boot SpartaDOS X' is selected (allows easy booting from CONFIG.SYS drive after mounting ATRs) BIOS Changed: message and menu item wording Changed: progress bar code rewritten for brevity Added: L+RESET starts loader if SELECT+RESET coldstart hotkey is enabled PBI BIOS Fixed: SIO status command now reliably returns enhanced density bit in first byte (DVSTAT) for 130K ATRs Fixed: Dummy format command now returns error if enhanced density format attempted on single density (90K) ATR Changed: Boot drive override clears after first use Changed: SIO status command for device $20 now returns complement of controller error register in second byte (as per device $3x) Feedback If anyone notices any screw-ups, please let me know directly or via this thread. I sat on this update for several days purely because changing just one byte of code in the firmware necessitates the complete re-assembly of a many ROMs and ATR images, which is repetitive and even excruciating process, especially when one notices a bug while demoing the software on video. As usual: please use this thread to report your experiences, both positive and otherwise. Videos As mentioned above, I've made a couple of videos which attempt to demonstrate some of the more useful features of the SIDE Loader, both stand-alone and when used in conjunction with Ultimate 1MB. The same methodologies apply by and large to Incognito and the 1088XEL/XLD. I'll be making more of these videos, since there's still more to cover regarding advanced usage.
  15. I was hoping to find some information about if the Atari Flashback 9 firmware is able to be modded to use something like the Genesis Game Manager. I can't seem to find any information about the Atari FB9, only info about the 2018 Genesis HD. Anybody more knowledgeable than myself able to shed some light on the matter?
  16. Here's a custom firmware for the AtGames Legends Flashback you might enjoy. BurgerTime, Mappy, Street Fighter, Dig Dug, and their friends not enough for you? Here's the answer -- update your machine so it can load other files from the SD card, without losing the onboard games. 1. Back up your settings or save games first if you care about them. 2. Unzip this file and put it at the root of your SD card to perform the update. It will unpack to a 4.3MB disk image file named "arcade_update.img" arcade_update.img.zip 3. Power on, follow the onscreen prompts. Leave the machine on while updating (you only need to run it once), turn it off when done. 4. On your SD card, remove the update file and make a folder called GAME in the root. Put your files in there. No spaces in filenames. 5. GAME ON this message has been brought to you by the firmware fairy
  17. Link to Stella 6 on the R77: So here is the release of the RetroN 77 Community Build Image. This is a firmware replacement image for the RetroN 77 intended to be written (using an appropriate tool, not included) to a microSD card to be used with the Retron 77. What it does do: Brings a rather large quality of life update to users of the Retron 77, especially those that intend to run roms from the microSD card. What it does not do: Fix any existing controller, dumping or compatibility issues (other than those fixed by bringing the version of Stella being used to 3.9.3) What it looks like: Where to get it: The original Community Build Image has been superseded. Get your new and improved firmware here! How to use it: Read the included README.rtf - it contains important information you should know. As mentioned the included image (sdcard.remo.20181120-1353CB.img) must be written (as an image) directly to your microSD card - this does not mean copy the image as a file to the card, it means use an imaging tool such as USB Image Tool or Win32 Disk Imager or Etcher Caution is advised here, if you do not know what you are doing you may wind up wiping out your computers system (or other) drives. DO NOT DO THAT. Ask someone for help if you aren't sure what you are doing. Once the image is appropriately on the microSD simply boot the RetroN 77 and you will immediately notice a difference. The RetroN 77 will no longer boot to the Hyperkin UI, but will boot directly to Stella. In Stella you can then browse through your roms using Stella's launcher/rom selection UI. This of course means you are free to use subdirectories and have a much saner rom management/selection experience. I've changed the bindings to allow page up/down with the joystick here as well. Pressing Fry here will move you one directory upwards. Pressing the Fry button while a rom is running will cause Stella to exit to its launcher/rom selection UI - so now you can play multiple roms without having to switch the darn thing on and off physically. Plugging in a cart to run it functions normally. Pressing the Fry button while you are using a cart will exit to Stella's launcher/rom selection UI. Inserting/removing a cart will restart Stella. Some very important thanks: A truly massive thanks to stephena for kindly lending me his time so that I was able to achieve my initial goals without inelegantly hacking into Stella itself, and then for taking even more time to make the wonderful Stella specific changes to the stella3-r77 branch for this build. What you see when you utilize this image simply would not have been possible without his talent and generosity. And of course this includes thanks to him as always for Stella itself : ) Thanks to Thomas Jentzsch for his testing, input, discussion and kindly giving permission to include his awesome titles in this distribution (yay!) , and to Atari Pixel for his work and for being a great partner in this project. Additional thanks to fellow AA members Sneakyturtleegg, gorfcadet, iesposta, ColecoJoe for image testing and feedback. Note this image comes with no warranties expressed or implied, and is not supported by anyone. This means you are using this image entirely at your own risk, and that you fully accept that responsibility.
  18. Hi all, As of today, I have put all files related to my snes2joy project on github. https://github.com/ivop/snes2joy It contains: * design documents * hardware schematic * gerber files * firmware source code and pre-compiled .hex file * native software to test, incl. source * step by step build photos * freecad and .obj files of 3D printable enclosure Everything is free to use (0-Clause BSD License), so if anybody wants to make a batch of them and sell them, be my guest. Would be nice if you send me one though But no obligations of course. That's what 0BSD means. Regards, Ivo Edit: to clarify, this means I won't be doing a run myself.
  19. I'm trying to upgrade the firmware of an Ultimate 1MB card that came installed in an 800XL I just bought to the latest one by FlashJazzCat. I was following along with the video on pigwa, enabled spartados, rebooted into uflash, updated the bios, updated the spartados and rebooted again. Now when I reboot I just get this... I think this U1MB might be so old it still has v1 of the cpld code on it, the guy I bought it from had no idea. Have I bricked it? Can it be recovered? Help!

  22. Can someone please help me with my new Harmony Encore? I just bought this device and it came flashed with the NTSC 1.06 firmware, I am from the UK so I want to put the latest PAL 1.06 firmware on it the problem is it does not seem to exist and I don’t understand where to get it from, assuming it even exists. The addendum that comes with the Encore manual states… “Also, we don’t recommend using BIOS versions older than 1.06.” So what do I do? use 1.05? or wait till PAL 1.06 comes out? I have tried emailing Fred with this question but I am not getting any reply from him so any help this community may be able to offer will be appreciated. Many thanks.
  23. There is a new firmware available for the F18A, V1.6. It fixes a subtle bug related to sprites and includes many new features that I hope will be utilized. If you have an F18A in your 99/4A there is a in-system software update available (requires a CF7/nanoPEB or disk system that can handle about 250K of files). I posted the full details in the F18A Resource thread here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/207586-f18a-programming-info-and-resources/page-12?do=findComment&comment=3226312
  24. Hi there, I have had in the Eighties a special firmware (a patched original) for the 1050. When disks are formatted with these firmware, all disks (single and medium density) were read more faster on any 1050 without trackbuffer (e.g. w/o speedy or happy etc.) than normal. If I remember right, the "trick" was a new sector skew in the format tables. Does anybody have these firmware? If so, please upload. Thanks. Regards, Juergen
