  1. Looking for the Pocket or the Color
  2. Hey there everyone! If there's two things I love in this world it's old video games and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and you can expect to see a fair amount of both in this thread. If for some reason you are put off by either old video games or magical talking pastel colored unicorns I would suggest clicking the "Back" button on your browser now. You have been warned lol That said, let's start things off with a look at my home console gaming center! That's a bit of an older picture, before I added another game storage cabinet for my 130'ish Atari 2600 cartridges and some framed Atari posters to the back wall, but it should give you a fairly good idea of my setup. Maybe I can take some new pics later this week if people want to see them. On the subject of the Atari 2600, that seems like as good a place as any to start the look at my game collections for individual systems. Again, this will be a sightly older pic... I've acquired a good dozen or so new games since that picture was taken, including Princess Rescue and a reproduction of Shooting Arcade; as well as a Wico Command Control Trackball, Wico Command Control bat style joystick, a Best Electronics Lightgun, and a Competition Pro 5000 joystick. Those I shouldn't have much trouble snapping some new pictures of in the near future. I do collect for a few other systems as well as the Atari 2600, including the original Game Boy / Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and the Sega Genesis. I use the term "collect" loosely, because honestly I consider myself more of a curator than a collector. I'm not out to collect every game published for my favorite systems, just the ones that I personally like and find enjoyable to play. If I buy a game and decide I don't like it after playing it then it goes up on eBay or off to a local game store and gets resold. There are a few historically significant exceptions to this in my game libraries (such as the copies of Pac-Man and E.T. seen above), but for the most part I'm only interested in collecting the good and fun games for my favorite systems. I haven't taken any pictures of my Genesis collection yet since it's still pretty small (around 20 games) but I do have a few of my Game Boy library to share: I have a real soft spot for the old gray brick and the games on it, but the vast majority of the time whenever I play a Game Boy game it's on my custom Twilight Sparkle themed Game Boy Color. I really dig the color pallets that Nintendo programmed into the GBC for many of the more popular original Game Boy games, and I like seeing the games displayed on a screen the same size as the one they were originally made for; but without any of the motion blur of the original Game Boy screen. The Game Boy Advance SP does get used for original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games sometimes as well though (usually late at night when I don't feel like digging out the Worm Light for the GBC), and it has been somewhat customized too. It started off life as a Graphite colored AGS-101 model backlight GBA SP and really got the ever living daylights beat out of it by it's previous owner, but after I purchased it I ended up refurbishing it with a brand new purple housing, buttons, and screen cover. I also took it to a local game store and had them solder in brand new L and R trigger contacts, and it's been a constant traveling companion for me ever since. It really is a wonderful little system. That's all for now! I hope you enjoyed this look at my gaming center and game collections, and you can expect to see this thread updated regularly with new pictures of Atari 2600, Game Boy/Color/Advance, and Sega Genesis games and accessories.
  3. Hi there, I have an unusual collection for you all to see. Back in 2016 I made a simple challenge for myself: collect one of every GBA Video cartridge that exists. And holy crap, some of these were hard to find. Most can be found for very cheap, usually in the $5-$10 range, but as you will see, there are some major exceptions. I actually completed this collection about a year ago, but never got around to posting any pics. For those who don’t know about GBA Video, effectively what they were are special white GBA cartridges containing 45-ish minutes of incredibly low-quality video, to be viewed on the Game Boy Advance. When I say low-quality, I mean it makes old 240p YouTube videos look good by comparison. But in 2004-2006 when they were released, most people didn’t have a device in their pocket capable of playing video like we all do now. So at the time, it made sense. Nowadays they’re pretty much obsolete - better options for viewing videos on the go exist, and have existed for quite some time. Now you might be asking, why would I want to get a complete collection of an old, obscure, and obsolete video format? Simple: because I’m completely out of my mi- er, I mean a dedicated collector! I had a few of these cartridges back when they were new, so there’s an element of nostalgia to it, but mostly I did it because I've never seen someone attempt it before. Plus, I didn’t think it would be too difficult. I mean, how many of these cartridges could they possibly have made? Hoo boy. To my knowledge, there are around 35 different GBA Video cartridges that exist. I say “around 35”, and put the asterisk in the title, because I’m still not 100% sure if this is complete. I did a lot of searching with Google, trying to find a complete list of which cartridges were released, but I couldn’t find one. Each list I found was different, and they were all missing titles - even the official GBA Video website doesn’t even have half of the damn things they released listed. So I made my own list. I put a lot of effort, and a lot of hours into cataloguing every GBA Video cartridge I could find evidence of, and these are the results. Without further ado: pics! This is all of them. I’ve sorted them by series. The ultra-rare ones I keep in plastic cases at the bottom. Apologies for the glare - I’m a bad photographer. I’ve added text to indicate what they are. These are the one-offs - shows that only got one volume. And yes, I’m aware I have two copies of the Kids Next Door cart, I intended to only include one in the pic, but I’m too lazy to re-take it Okay - seriously, who asked for 6 different Cartoon Network Collection cartridges to be released? This is ridiculous. And what's with these names? It goes Volume 1, Volume 2, then Special Edition, Platinum Edition, Premium edition, and Limited Edition. And yes, they’re all different. Good lord. There were 4 Pokemon cartridges released, 2 Fairly Odd Parents, and 3 SpongeBob. The only one of these that was difficult to find was SpongeBob Volume 3 - I had to scour eBay for awhile before I found it. I don’t understand why the first two SpongeBob carts have the same exact pic while the third is different, but whatever I guess. 6 Cartoon Network Collection carts but only 3 Nicktoons Collection carts, with the third being extremely rare (I’ll show it off later)? Weird. The four on the bottom are the only movie cartridges released that I know of - and yes, they actually contain the full movies, but the video quality is horrible and at a very low framerate. Now we’re getting into the rare stuff. Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go - a show pretty much nobody has heard of, which I assume is why this cart is so rare. It has a 9/10 rarity level on NintendoAge, but I only paid about $50 for it. It was the only copy I could find on eBay at the time. I showed off both of these in a previous pic, but I’m posting them again because they were ridiculously difficult to find. The 2-in-1 cartridge, believe it or not, actually contains both full movies. To be honest I’m stunned that they fit on a single cartridge. Disney Channel Volume 2, I got from JJGames. It was out of stock for months, and when they finally got one in stock, I snapped it up as soon as possible. NintendoAge doesn’t even have a rating for it. I have never seen a copy of it on eBay. Does that mean it’s ultra-rare? To be honest, I have no idea. I’m just glad I found one. This one took a long time to get ahold of. 7/10 rarity on NintendoAge. I bought it for about $50 on eBay, but again, it was the only copy I could find so I didn’t have much choice. There are a few copies on eBay right now, and holy crap, apparently it's worth a lot more than that now. This one was a major pain. It was the final cartridge I needed to complete my collection. It took me over a year before I finally found it on eBay, and it just happened to be in a lot of games someone was selling. I convinced the seller to sell just this cartridge to me, and they only asked $25, which I was happy to pay. At the time of writing this, there are only a few copies on eBay, and they're asking an insane amount of money for them. Oddly enough, it only has a 5/10 rarity (not sure if that's accurate). It’s worth noting that there may be one more cartridge out there: a 2-in-1 movie cart containing both Shrek and Shrek 2. They definitely released both of these movies in a single package, as you can see in this pic: However, I don’t think there was ever a single cartridge containing both movies in one. I’ve seen CIB listings for this release on eBay, and rather than a single cartridge they just had the two separate cartridges in a single box, both of which I already have. I have yet to see a single piece of photographic evidence that another 2-in-1 cartridge exists, and if anyone can prove me wrong, I’ll gladly pay top dollar for it. That concludes my GBA Video adventures up to this point. Thanks for reading! Edit: Full list of released carts and their rarity: 2-in-1: Shrek and Shark Tale (movies) (Rarity: unknown) All Grown Up! 4. I had a chat with Ian Ferguson about a lot of topics, but the main one I wanted to cover was the Game Boy. To summarize, portable gaming was different in that it offered a more "immersive" experience, cutting the player off from even other people in the room. This was spun as a negative thing for a while, and it's only recently that our culture has noticed the positive aspects of it. Also, I shouted out my love for AA, and tried to claim my sandwich.
  5. A few years ago, I got a Nintendo 64 with a bunch of games and the transfer pak. The accessory was part of the Pokemon Stadium bundle and I recently discovered that you could use the transfer pak to transfer your monsters to the N64 game, but also to play Pokemon Yellow, Red and Blue. I was wondering if that's a good way to experience those games on the big screen, since tracking down copies of Pokemon Stadium and any of the Game Boy games is going to be an expensive proposition for me. I know the N64 resolution is quite low and I don't know how its controller handles a traditional Pokemon, so does any of you have any experience with this? Is it worth adding those games to my collection so that I can play Pokemon on a big CRT? Or do you think that's just a waste of money? Any resources that you can throw my way will be greatly appreciated since the only thing I've found was a video on "My Life as Gaming". Thanks in advance!
  6. I need some jobs done with my AGS-101 Game Boy Advance SP: 1. The charging port (The rectangle port next to the link cable port) doesn't charge all the way and it's very finicky. Could be a bad ac adapter, I'll try a new one out maybe. Either case I'd like someone to take a look at the port to make sure it's not damaged. I'll get a new battery too for it. 2. The volume slider is almost unusable. I have tried cleaning the little slot out but it looks like it's going to need a new volume control module or whatever that thing is. 3. A check of the capacitors just to be safe.
  7. Hey there guys and gals. I got the itch to build a new backlit Game Boy with a custom colored shell, buttons, screen lens, backlight kit, etc. to use with my recently acquired EverDrive GB X7 and I have all the parts I need for the project except a donor Game Boy to strip for the motherboard, screen, and speaker. If any of you folks happen to have a beat up but still working Game Boy they wouldn't mind selling me for my project I'd be happy to buy it. The condition of the externals don't matter at all as long as everything still works properly and there isn't any scratches on the actual glass screen underneath the plastic screen lens. I'm looking to pay around $30 shipped for it and can pay via PayPal. Thanks for taking the time to view my ad and just shoot me a message if you happen to have one that you'd be interested in selling!

That said I also have consoles for most of these games that will be listed when I get time to research prices. If you have interest in a certain console let me know and I will try to move it to the top of my list of things to do. The more games you want to buy, the more willing I am to work on the pricing. If you have questions, please feel free to message me. Thank you for your time and attention.

  15. Hello everybody, today I have a simple question: what's your favorite mario party game: 1 through 10? Actually, its more complex than that. It would be cool to hear two answers: what is your favorite game, including biases like your first mario party, a favorite gaming party or experience, etc, as well as which game you believe is all around the best, unbiased. I personally had the most fun with Mario Party 8 because it was my first even though some other entries in the series were way better. I'm exited to hear your answers!
  16. Sold, will update post later with another Game Boy Advance SP lot. Thanks! If you're looking for feedback on some deals I have done here, you can check HERE. Some of my personal rules for selling: If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to post a reply or PM me. I work on a first-come-first-serve for selling, so the first to PM me gets first dibs on it, and so on. If you PM me with a question or interest in purchasing and I reply, then you do not reply to me within 2 days, I will offer it to the next person in-line. This is so I don't get hung-up waiting for people who ultimately decline to purchase it. I accept PayPal only. I am not interested in trades. I will be courteous and polite to you, and make every effort on my end to ensure the sale goes smoothly and worry-free for you. Thank you very much for taking a look!
  17. So I played a round of Tetris today on my DMG Game Boy with newly installed back light mod: (yes, one of the four backlight LEDs does not work - I need to contact my supplier about that...) Got 315,965 points, possibly my best game ever. I still remember the first time I cracked over 200,000 points on my Game Boy Color, and how amazed I was as it launched the rocket into outer space where it released tetris pieces from it's cargo bay. Best rocket launch ever in any version of Tetris! But on DMG Game Boy, not so much... Compare to this (skip to 1:37) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YdVcb1ETN0&feature=youtu.be&t=1m37s
  18. Why did the Game Boy use a Z80 instead of a 6502 like the NES (and the closely related 65816 of the SNES)? Were there any power advantages to the Z80 that would help with battery life? Wouldn't it have made more sense to use a 6502, than they could reuse code and make it easier to port NES games over.
  19. Which is better, Game Gear or Game Boy? Nintendo had the games and sega had the pure power. So which was better? I think the Game Gear have great sonic games and is the better system. Have fun voting!
  20. During the early fall season (and October in particular), I like to cover a lot of Castlevania content for my YouTube channel. This year I decided to focus on Let's Plays in particular, and as a result I stormed through 11 Castlevania titles from start to finish. Which titles were they in particular? Well: Castlevania (NES), Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES), Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES), Super Castlevania IV (SNES), Castlevania Chronicles/Akumajo X68000, Castlevania Adventure (Game Boy), Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (Game Boy), Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (PC Engine DUO), Castlevania Bloodlines (Genesis), Castlevania: Dracula X (SNES), and the Castlevania Adventure ReBirth (Nintendo Wii). If you are interested in checking any of them out, I have attached a playlist, each video appearing in the order in which I covered it. (Playlist link - ) The first video in the series: ( )
