  1. From the album: Miscellaneous

This game. This is the primary reason I have not moved away from this particular phone, my venerable old Sony Ericsson C905a -- even though the USB port no longer works properly and sometimes it will not charge without taking a fiberglass cleaning pen to the contacts. PopCap's (now E.A.) "Bookworm" for Java J2ME. Truth told I plan to move to another C905a, one with a formerly AT&T motherboard so the AT&T system will recognize the IMEI as this one came from Rogers and I get all sorts of crap about it not being supported and what-not. But, even though I will move to the exact same phone, I have not yet figured out how to move an application's data from one phone to another. It appears to be encrypted and locked to the phone. This is known to be the case with text messages and emails stored on a data card (Sony M2,) and when moved to another phone the stored messages cannot be accessed and installed applications show up but are not operable. I have been playing this on-and-off for a fairly long time, probably around three years or so on this go. I generally do not play for more than about an hour at a time and mostly when somewhere I have to wait, but mostly and usually I use this to wind down before going to sleep. Once I get to the point it is difficult to form the words in my mind I exit the game, place the phone on its stand, then roll over and swiftly fall asleep. It is a fun game. But I cannot seem to lose anymore. Used to be it would get me in the decade-level millions of points with those damned burning tiles. But now it just cannot beat me. I have no idea what the high score is (or was, given its age,) or the highest level attained nor if there is even such a level. But I decided that once I reached level 1000 I would have to stop. Realistically using this phone is getting more difficult for the two reasons I mentioned prior: AT&T does not like this phone as the IMEI is unrecognized and therefor the network only indicates it as a 2G phone (though it is more,) and the proprietary FastPort is broken due to a very poor design†. Here I am. PopCap's "Bookworm," Level 1001, score of 501,575,820 points, and seemingly no end in sight. Time to put it down, I think. † In my prior experience with Sony Ericsson this is very disappointing and unexpected quality. The FastPort is a 12-pin port which provides USB connectivity, power input for charging as well as power output for powering devices (such as FM transmitter, noise-cancelling earbuds, and an amplified speaker stand,) stereo audio output and microphone input, and TV video output (sadly, only static images not motion video, but cool none-the-less given the vintage.) It is a surface-mount port with 12 solder tabs connecting the circuit board to the port's pins. Like most circuit board mounted ports there are also two supports built into the body on both sides of the port. Disappointingly on the C905a, and possibly other devices, these supports are not used. The port is not secured to the phone circuit board by anything other than the 12 solder tabs. Later if and when I have more time I may take pictures of this. Not that many people care but at least for posterity?
  2. I don't know how many people are actually interested in Bridge, but I decided to do a little font fix for this game from Antic that was recently uploaded to Atarimania. The font looked pretty sloppy to me. Only the first disk was changed, but I've included the rest to simplify things. Original: Fixed: Blue Team Bridge (Font Fixed).zip
  3. I'm calling this one done and at version 1.0! Unless someone finds a major bug. The spiritual sequel and final installment of the Wizard's series published by long-gone-but-not-forgotten Rainbow software, Wizard's Doom is a new 3D dungeon game written in TI Extended BASIC with assembly language assistance. Features include: Three different character classes to play Procedurally generated dungeons for infinite replay Two dozen different monsters with varying characteristics and abilities Six dozen different items to find including weapons, armor, scrolls, potions, rings, and much more Save and load game feature Full manual in PDF format I also have a very limited print run of paper copies of the manual! If you want to acquire one, I will be happy to ship one to you at the cost of postage. (About $3 for U.S. domestic) Please private message me if interested! Only while supplies last! Wizard's Doom 1.0.1: WizardsDoom.zip

  5. Recently posted version on Atarimania: Colossus Chess 4.1 is not the version listed, but rather version 4.0.
  6. A short text adventure, not too serious. It uses an advanced version of the one key system that was in Valley Of Treasures, with containers you can open, close and put things in. It's pretty good for 10k of basic. There's a few interesting "puzzles" in this one. an_unusual_dream.zip
  7. Fairchild Channel F Collection Serial #: (319955) Console in excellent condition. Outer cardboard box has a bit of wear and damage but the unit has been kept in plastic for many years. The paperwork, registration card, and original pamphlet are all in excellent shape. The collection includes almost every game made for the system... Videocart-1 through Videocart 26. The only three that are missing are 16, 19 and 20. All games have original boxes and original manuals. I know the values rather well I am just curious if anyone here might want to make a serious offer. P
  8. Adjusted the font set and graphics as follows: 1. Slightly smaller and improved font. 2. Characters/Numbers on gauges improved for readability. 3. Colors for gauges adjusted (gauges no longer purple). I also picked a green for NTSC that results in a green color for PAL (rather than yellow, as before).
  9. Anyone know where I can find Tapper for the Atari 800 in the original Budweiser version? All I can seem to find is the Mountain Dew version. Thanks,
  10. Hello everyone, I am proud to say I have completed development on my Pac-Clone game. It has been a great learning experience, and I had a lot of fun doing it. Gameplay and announcement video here: I still have two or three more videos covering the development yet to be released but coming soon on youtube.com/graydefender If anyone is interested as of the time of this posting there are 5 (five) physical copies up for grabs. Send me an email at graydefender@outlook.com if you would like a boxed copy. Thank you for your support!
  11. So I bought Shantae Half Genie Hero yesterday at Lamestop (only place locally that had it) for all of $32 dollars including tax. It was one of the best game purchase values of my life as far as the packaging/price/contents/game quality mix goes. It came with no less than: -Box -Game in case -Thick full color Manual -Accompanying soundtrack CD If all games still came packaged like this i'd still be buying new consoles and games. The kicker is, I inserted the game and it fired right up, no hour long updates or servers to log into. Fun game too.
  12. I thought some members on this forum might not know about this and find it interesting. Zachtronics (creator of many super interesting PC puzzle games) has just released a new puzzle game called "TIS-100", which is all about solving puzzles through ASM programming on a made-up 80's computer system. As you play through the game you learn about the computer and who build it (and why). Here's the trailer for the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkUHGvy2pNU here's how they describe the game: It even comes with a 14-page PDF manual that you're meant to print out and use as reference while you code your solutions to the puzzles
  13. Fellow atarians, We've just opened this poll in Atariteca: Vote for what you consider the best port, hack or enhanced/extended game developed this year for Atari 8-bit computers. IMPORTANT: This time we are NOT going to take in account "downvotes" against the entries -haters gonna hate... So please, feel free to vote for your favorite(s) as many times you want: http://atariteca.blogspot.pe/2016/12/el-mejor-port-hack-y-version-extendida.html Regards, - Y -
  14. Hi, I am David Vella from the small Island of Malta in Europe, approx 60 miles south of Italy. My parents purchased me a TI-99/4A in 1983 when I was still 16. I dabbled with Basic and extended basic writing some slow games, and soon moved on to MSX, Amiga and later PCs making software development my job. In early 2016 for some odd reason I pulled out my TI-99/4A from storage and hooked it up again. It only worked for a few minutes and broke down. To cut a long story short I purchased 3 units and several hardware such a Nano Peb, games etc... In February 2016 I heard about GPL and how it bridges the gap between Basic and Assembly. I though this would be a nice challenge, to write a game using 100% GPL. It took me til November 15th 2016 to finish the game, which is now available from arcade shopper on a custom UBERGROM cart thanks to James Fetzner. The promo video is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU9SCoX-KoY The Facebook Page to post your high scores : https://www.facebook.com/BreakFreeHOF/ Have fun.
  15. AtariAge and that dude who made a game some time ago present... Carol vs. The World! 2015 Championship It is Christmas time once again and the fourth annual Carol vs. The World! Championship is upon us. Throughout the entire month of December, all boys and girls--naughty or nice--will have the opportunity not only to earn bragging rights, but to win actual prizes! This year, in an effort to encourage novices and newcomers to play, we are changing things a bit. We will separate the veteran players in their own category, so that they will not compete with newer players for prizes. We hope that this will balance the contest better and make it more fair to newcomers. There will be two categories: The regular players and the special "Elite Knight Elf" for veterans players, each with their own rankings and prizes. Veterans are those who have won awards or have submitted scores higher than 1,000 points in previous competitions. Please visit the Contest Rules and FAQ pages for more details on contest rankings. All that said, there are prizes for players of all skill levels, veterans and novices alike, and many other surprises! We encourage everyone to participate, submit their score, and join in the fun! Once again, we've partnered with AtariAge to include some more great prizes! The Top Players on each rank will receive a $25.00 gift certificate for the AtariAge Store, and the Grand Prize winner will be awarded a $50.00 gift certificate. How's that for a stocking stuffer? We've also changed the top prize! At stake this year is a custom-designed, one-of-a-kind Ultimate Video Arcade Marquee. Made with the same process and materials that classic arcade cabinets use, it will look just as great on your MAME cabinet or wall. Plus, the winner gets to help design his own Christmas Carol themed artwork! Like every year before, the championship starts at Midnight (EST) on December 1st, and goes all the way until Midnight (EST) on January 1st of the new year. The rules are simple: Play the Christmas Carol game on your Intellivision® console or PC. At the end of the game, record your final score by taking a photograph or screen-shot of the game screen. This will serve as proof of your score. Announce your points to the judges by posting the image right here or sending it via e-mail to the judges at: <cvw@CarolVsGhost.com>. Be sure to include the name you want to have displayed on the leaderboard. Wash, rinse, repeat as many times as you'd like, until the contest deadline of December 31st, 2015. That's it! There's nothing to buy and no registration required. Whether you play the game cartridge on an Intellivision® console, or the ROM edition on a PC or Mac, it's all the same. Just send us a photo or screen-grab of your score and you're in! We'll post all entries to the Official CvW Leaderboard as they come in, where they forever will remain immortalized on the Internet. Will you save Christmas from the twiggy arms of the Evil Snowman? Is the Ghost Of Christmas Presents your friend or foe? Can you attain a Perfect Christmas? Join us here in the official discussion thread of the CvW Championship! Get Ready... Go! 16. I'm developing a scavenger hunt-like game based on the 1979 film, Alien. I realize there's already an Alien game on the Atari 2600, but I wanna make a game that's not a Pac-man clone. Anyway, I'm not very good at creating nice-looking sprites. Does anyone have any advice or tips on making sprites?
  17. Nox Archaist is a new role playing game in development by 6502 Workshop exclusively for the Apple II platform and emulators, with floppy and hard disk support. We are excited to announce the first in a series of mini stories using the Nox Archaist engine to demo the newest features in the game. The Nox Archaist story line is still under development. Any names or characters used in these mini stories are not intended to depict real or imagined NPCs, events, or bovines in the actual game. Any similarities are coincidental. ----Nox Archaist S1E1: Shattered Sword---- In this episode our hero travels to town and faces an epic struggle to get his sword repaired after breaking it over an ogre's head. http://www.6502workshop.com/2016/11/nox-archaist-s1e1-shattered-sword.html New game play elements to look for in this video include: *Conversation with NPCs *NPCs moving between locations on the map based on their daily schedule *New interactive tiles ----About Nox Archaist---- Nox Archaist, by 6502 Workshop, is a 2D tile based fantasy RPG with a classic Apple II look and feel. Our mission is to develop a modern evolution of the Apple II RPG genre, while exploring how gameplay might have advanced in tile-based RPGs if large scale development had continued on the Apple II platform after the 1980s. http://www.noxarchaist.com
  18. This Topic is intended for those who are willing to learn, assist in learning, develop and publish code using GPL, the Graphic Programming Language proprietary to TI 99/4A also known as the GROM Language. To ensure that one can start from scratch and try to dabble a few lines of code in GPL I will list the most basic things that are needed and then show you a very small GPL language program which fills the screen with the letter A. 1. Install python 2.7.11 (Do not install 3.5 as it will not work with the GPL emulator I will propose) https://www.python.org/downloads/ 2. You need an assembler for windows and good documentation according to the assembler chosen. Assembler: https://endlos99.github.io/xdt99/ Documentation : http://www.unige.ch/medecine/nouspikel/ti99/gpl.htm I will assume you install it in C:\XDT99 3. You need a great emulator to run your well crafted virtual cartridges which we shall be creating. Classic 99 is my favourite : http://www.harmlesslion.com/cgi-bin/showprog.cgi?search=Classic99 I will assume you install it in C:\CLASSIC99 4. You need some kind of Editor I prefer Notepad++ : https://notepad-plus-plus.org/ 5. Setting up your assembler > There are clear notes on how to have XGA99 up and running to compile your .GPL code but I will cover this step by step for those who hate reading a lot of material scattered all over the place. Install XDT99, I selected c:\XDT99 folder. Unzip the attached file (xdt99.zip) into C:\XDT99, you can choose a different folder but there are some batch files you would need to change later. This will add a new folder to the standard XDT99 called "myfiles" and also the python program files are in C:\XDT99 (.py files) Point the PATH windows environment variable to point to C:\XDT99 where the.py reside. Please edit C:\XDT99\MYFILES\G.BAT and MG.BAT to point to myfiles and classic99 according to the paths you chose. Please note that all the files you create should be named <filename>G.gpl Example c:\xdt99\myfiles\testG.gpl To compile just go into DOS c:\xdt99\myfiles cd c:\xdt99\myfiles and type G test Note that I did not type G TESTG.GPL as the G.GPL will be auto appended by the G batch file. if no errors just type mg test. This will move TESTG.BIN to CLASSIC99\MODS 6. The last step is to execute the newly created cartridge. Fire Up classic 99 and select Cartridge->User->Open .... navigate to c:\classic99\mods and select the bin file. The TI Program menu will contain the program called TEST in position 2. Have fun... In this post I will place code snippets and BIN files for all to try and enjoy. xdt99.zip
  19. I recently fixed up the screen of an original Game Boy (DMG-01) by using the "soldering iron method" below the LCD panel to remove the vertical lines on the LCD. It started to work fine again. However, about a week later, the screen suddenly became blank except for one vertical line on the left of the screen (see pic). With the contrast turned all the way up the screen was all black with no missing lines - which should be fine. So I used my soldering iron anyway to smooth out the traces on the LCD again - there seemed to be a few lines on the left side that were flickering as I ran across them, but they got fixed up till they went away. However, when I tried playing again I still got the blank screen with vertical line, and the screen was still all black with the contrast turned up. Anything else I should try to this unit before I give up? BTW the sound is still there and the buttons seem to function.
  20. Well, Abbuc competition is over for this year and we got some really nice games! Congratulations to all who contributed with their work and lets hope next year will be even better! My entry "The Monk" reached third place so let's discuss it here. Video of compo version in action: There's much of planned gameplay in it, but still a lot more can be added. I'll keep working on it in next couple months and let you know of progress in this topic. What's best about the game for me is that I've learned a lot and plan to use this type of graphics for next projects. There is lots of potential in this type of colorful, low-number-of-bytes/screen type of graphics. Everything draws quickly, it doesn't take lot of space so fast, arcade games are possible with this approach. Will share details about coding stuff later this week. Wish you many good hours spent with the game and I hope you enjoy it. ps. If you get stuck feel free to ask ... Cheers! Vladimir Download: monk_1.3_plus_story_and_instructions.zip

We are running a tile graphics contest! The top three submitted tiles will be determined on 7-31-2016 and the winners will receive the benefits below: *One custom in-game NPC named and based on input from the winner *Copy of the initial release of Nox Archaist on 5.25” floppy disks *Pre-release digital copy of Nox Archaist *Printed manual *Name mentioned in Nox Archaist game credits *Announcement of winners on our blog and in this forum *Any other goodies we can come up with To participate, just send us one or more tile designs using the criteria provided at the link below. Here is a link with contest details: http://www.6502workshop.com/p/graphics-contest-rules.html =====ABOUT NOX ARCHAIST===== Nox Archaist is a 2D tile based fantasy RPG with a classic Apple II look and feel. We are taking advantage of the full 128k available on the IIe and later models which will help us create features and effects that may not have been seen in vintage 1980s Apple games. Our goal is to explore how gameplay might have advanced in tile-based RPGs if substantial development had continued on the Apple II platform past the late 1980s. Game play videos and screenshots showing the current evolution of the Nox Archaist game engine are available below. http://www.6502workshop.com- Nox Archaist website with our blog, current gameplay videos, screenshots, and gifs. - Demo gameplay video featuring the current game engine. - Demo gameplay video featuring sunrise/sunset and in-game clock features
