Hello everyone. Just found out the existent of this forum through reddit. I hope I am posting this thread in the right section of the forum. I need help with identifying two games belonging to Famicon I guess, which I was really fond of, though I couldn't beat them or even get pass through any stages cause I was a kid at that time. 1) Originally a Japanese game I think. The game is a single player 2D side-scroller action RPG game without character levels, where players could switch between a pink and a blue knight character anytime during gameplay. The blue knight character could jump higher than the pink knight. However, it will die when it touches the water. The pink knight is a vice versa of the blue knight; jumps lower than blue, but could survive under water. If I remember correctly, as a player, we could slash through walls of bricks with swords to access otherwise hidden places. There are monsters acting as obstacles. Upon killing, I don't think it drops anything...maybe coins...? There's also maybe ladders...as well as caves...to access other areas...? 2) It's a single player 2D side-scroller action game, where the player controls a small guy trying to fend off enemies with a puny pistol, and eventually finding an awesome robot to ride in, where attacking other enemies got a ton easier. It's not an arcade style like Metal slug, but more like adventure style....in a futuristic environment setting I think...? Hope someone could help identify these two games... Thank you so much in advance!

I try opening retro roms on 8-Bit Workshop (or Notepad) to hack, and I get encrypted garbage. Does anyone know how to fix this? I want to see how games looked to the programmers

Sorry for making another thread, I've been having a hard time learning programming. Long story short, I've tried Pico-8 with little success (made two shitty prototypes) in the past, but I also have a hard time retaining and remember that knowledge. I would love to learn a language that I can remember and translate, such as BASIC and C for instance, but again, I've had issues trying to retain information because I've got other unrelated projects as well. So, what is the best way to learn quickly and retain for more than a week's worth of time?

As the title says, my 2600+ arrived broken. No damage to the shipping box, any of the games that I ordered, or the console's box. It's obvious that the person packaging everything dropped it on the corner and then packaged it up. I received it last Monday (12/11) and immediately contacted customer service. I received an automated email with a support ticket number, a link to a customer support log in, and a promise that I would be contacted by a customer support agent within 1-2 business days. It has now been over a week without hearing from anyone. The customer support log in link they sent in the email is broken and forwards me to the main Atari website. I've received a response from whoever monitors their social media replying to my Facebook messenger plea but they only say the customer service is "busier than usual". This was supposed to be a Christmas gift for me and my family. This is my first Atari purchase. I love the games, I love the console, but this experience is wearing on me. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.

Hi all, installed a Retrosix Cleancomp (white board) into a 2600 junior, with mounted rca ports in the shell. when connected to a tv, it outputs fine but I get awful Dot Crawl on pole position. ive tried to adjust the on board pot but it does not help. when the pot is turned and the screen turns black and white it dissapears but that’s it, I either get minimal call but los of noise, or no noise but severe crawl. i know the cleancomp has the option forms video, but my tv does not support it. is there any solution, workaround or mod I can perform to eliminate this horrid looking effect? thanks

atari2600 Atari 2600 (woody) won't work! Riot Chip gets hot!
DatsunDeer posted a topic in Atari 2600
I bought an Atari 2600 from a yard sale with a buncha games for about 20 bucks. When I hooked it up to my TV, the screen was all black except for red and blue vertical lines on either side of the screen. If I kept restarting the console I could sometimes get vertical bars with several different colors and a humming noise. I replaced the RIOT chip with one I ordered from eBay that claimed to be working hoping that would fix it but i got the same results. The RIOT chip will heat up the longer the console is on and eventually get so hot it's uncomfortable to touch. Any ideas on what to do? -
Hello. I'm trying not to overpopulate the forum but unfortunately C&A is my first Atari 8bit game, so I will have questions. How can I scroll on Atari 8bit? Before you say "Dude. Use HSCROL and change the Display list" Yes, I know. But then we get into the screen wrap part. I'm using ANTIC 4 here for lots of color, but it also requires lots of memory and lots of DMA. I plan to use ANTIC 6 for the final boss zone so that it looks unique though! But then I got to the Screen wrap part. Oh dear. So, how do I handle this? Do I need to do the afwul C64 way and move all of memory myself, or can I do it the NES/7800 way and use "screen wrapping"? Basically how that works is I have a tilemap (I'm using the atari 7800 as an example here) and it's bigger than the screen. Say, 32*12 characters of 8*16 pixels. When I scroll, I move the table (duh) and when I reach the end, I start writing to the beginning of the table and when I do pass the end, what's "After" the end shows the beginning. If that makes any sense. I'm trying to take a break from the 7800 area since..... reasons, don't ask. And also the 7800 is...... the 7800. I want at least an ICT game on the big 3 atari systems! Thanks guys.

I've got a Dualshock 2 that belonged to my mom way back in the day in my possession. Unfortunately, upon plugging it into my console I realized that the buttons were unresponsive and simply do not work with the exception of Start and Select. The board inside is definitely still working in one form or another, as the analog LED is on when I plug the controller in. But none of the face, trigger, or bumper buttons appear to be working and neither do the analog sticks or D-Pad. I'll post a picture of the insides and the board itself when I get home, but from my recollection everything looks absolutely flawless. I compared the board to a confirmed working controller and wasn't able to discern any physical wear that could indicate circuit failure. I was hoping someone could share some ideas on what I could do to fix it, thanks! Here's an online photo I found of the controller revision I have.

To clarify I have an Atari 2600 4 switch Darth Vader console. On Sunday I turned on my Atari to play a bit of missile command and asteroids. When turning on the console my Tv was displaying a black-and-white image but the black-and-white switch was in color. I tried resetting the console and turning it on and off to no avail. I then proceeded to fiddle with the rf cable on the back of my tv. I have one of those screw-on adapters. As I was fiddling with the cable the color returned. Unplugging and plugging in the inside cable slowly works too. After I finished playing missile command I turned off the console to put in asteroids, after I turned it back on it was displaying in black and white again. Upon testing it later It has come to my attention that the problem is weirder than I thought. With my Atari on channel 3, I cannot get a color signal. but on channel 2 I can only by fiddling with the channel switch. I have also noticed the strange occurrence of Picture in picture mode displaying color when I am not getting color. I have even tried a replacement video cable. What's the meaning of this?

Recently acquired a UK 7800. The RF video is so bad it gives me headaches. It's not even just a bit of noise on the solid colours it's moving patterns of really prominent noise over different sections of the screen. Any help? Thanks in advance.

I’ve been experimenting with getting more playfields on screen but hit a roadblock. That roadblock being how it gets to the next screen. Because I want it to be when a certain score is hit, it goes to the next level. The code I jotted down is: if score = 2 then goto playfield2 Is there a way to resolve the issue or is this not possible to do on the Atari 2600?

Just recently got a 7800, it's my first Atari console, but not my first console that uses just RF. My RF picture quality on other systems (like mega drive) is far far better. This can't be standard right? would love some advice here.

Hi guys. I’ve had to be in the shadow of you’re arguably better games for my entire time on AA and I am sad about it. I feel that my games don’t address my audience that well, and I’m asking for help on how to make better games. What sort of games would you like from me? And do you guys enjoy my stuff? ( my 2600 stuff too ) What criticisms do you have on my stuff? And how can I improve? (And no, ICT7800 won’t be finished, it’s better as a 2600 game) Thanks! E.C.

I have a 2600 that won't come in on my TV. I have the RF plugged into an RF>coax adapter and into the (CRT) TV and when I turn it on the TV static goes wild but no picture. So I know it's getting power. I cleaned the game. I tried both channels 2 and 3 and even did a channel search but still nothing. Any suggestions? Could it be a bad adapter? I know the TV is fine because I just used an NES plugged with RF earlier.

Hi guys its been a while since i posted on the forums however, My sound (monitor output sound, don't have rf box) is not working. I did a couple measurements with the multimeter on the POKEY and it seems that it does have voltage output at pin 37 (read that on forum where someone had the same audio problem with their 130xe) Personally, I have a hunch that it's not the POKEY chip itself rather it's a capacitor or resistor in the sound circuit since I'm pretty sure POKEY handles I/O and keyboard scanning (both of which work tested the disk drive with emulation with aspeQt/SIO2PC, however cassette playback does not work.) So I guess my question is should I just skip trying to get a donor POKEY and attempt to troubleshoot the sound circuit (potentially just shotgunning the entire circuit and replacing it all until it works)? I would gladly accept any advice from anyone! Thank you! I have the schematic of all the resistor/capacitor values here http://www.jsobola.atari8.info/derelit/xefsm.pdf

Hi All, I made a post on Reddit but was directed here. I was given a 2600, but an unable to connect it to my moden TV - which as I understand it has the correct connections. Could sombody point me in the right direction of where I'm going wrong? I'm in the UK if that makes a difference to the console I have. The external cable looks like this at the end, and plugs directly into the read of my Sony XR-55A80J When I switch the TV source to where I think that should be (with the console on and a game inserted), I don't see anything. The people on Reddit advised I got a “Phono RCA Female to F Type Male RF Connector Coaxial Adapter for Atari 2600” which I did (here) - however it doesn't attach to my console's cable. This seemed baffled the people on Reddit. Can anyone help me - I just want to play Space Invaders again like I did in the seventies?

I bought a Telstar Arcade recently and it's been a lot of fun to repair and restore. I've fixed multiple issues with it so far but there's still one problem remaining that I haven't been able to fix. The image is constantly scrolling across the screen and nothing seems to stop it from happening. I tried adjusting the tuning pot on the internal RF modulator and I got it perfectly tuned in, but the issue persists. I also tried the console on both CRT and LED TVs and I get the same problem across all of them. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix it? I'll include a video to show the problem. P.S. the audio buzzing heard in the video has been fixed since the video was taken. IMG_21339565.mp4 .

I can't get my PS One to work on a TV. I'll list things that I've tried. - 4k tv and older HD tv - A/V cable - composite (red/yellow/white) cord - LCD screen attached/detached - HDMI converted The LCD screen works just fine, but the picture doesn't come through on the TV. You can only see a little bit. Do I need a new one or is there anything else I can try? I really don't want to have to return everything.

So, just a couple weeks ago I bought my first *real* Atari 2600 after spending years playing just Flashback models. It's a handsome black and grey American Atari Jr. model; 4 switches, small, can't fit Parker Bros. cartridges, cost $150 at my local Hock Shop. Came with a copy of Missile Command. The other day while playing Space Invaders, I spilt Chocolate Milk on the console, though it was off at the time. I let it dry and it seems to be working fine, except for one tiny detail --- the color is black and white! And it won't work no matter what I do; not changing the TV channel, not turning that little grey color switch left and right, not squeezing thr film capicators, nothing! Can someone help me?

I got this old Colecovision from Creig’s list which is pretty dirt, controlle is fine, everything works perfect as it should except the joystick which only works if I push it to the right SOMETIMES if I’m playing a game and push the controller to the left hard enough it might make my character move slightly to the left, the other directions don’t work at all Here’s what the inside looks like
