  1. Lately been on a bit of a "FIX ALL THE THINGS!" kick, and recently restored a system that had a bad RA-3-9600 RAM chip and replaced the system's RF modulator to get a pretty nice system back up and running. I traded this for a non-working system that was a bit scruffy (one controller cord was RIPPED from the controller!) as part of a deal that resulted in a restored-to-working-order Bally Astrocade. Anyhow, while restoring the system that eventually was sent off as a 'thank you', I harvested the RAM from a bare 'sarcophagus' system that I got 20 years ago really cheap and dug out of its tomb in the garage. That board was 'BSOD' but the RAM tested as good. (Thanks for that SRAM test program, @intvnut!) With the trade-in system I received, the controller repair was just a mechanical job (the cord is 3" shorter now, and some bad traces on the controller matrix have been fixed). But the system itself was also BSOD - with some occasional nice pastel colors, light blue, sometimes green, sometimes purple. Once even a bunch of characters and other data appeared on the TV. Systematically testing each chip, the most likely suspects all tested fine... SRAM, STIC, CPU, and the color chip. Finally, it go to the point of … what the heck, check the EXEC. Wouldn't you know, the RA-3-9502-11 that was in the system, when placed in my test bed, would not boot! The fun part though, is that if you left everything powered on for a few minutes and then cycled power, it all worked, and the MTE-201 passes with flying colors! If you let things cool down, the behavior repeats. Since this reminded me of the other "dead" bare-bones mainboard-only system that just sacrificed its SRAM, I popped its corresponding part of the EXEC -- and saw very similar behavior! This one also tested out as "good" after "warming up" a short time. Putting a "known good" RO-3-9502-11 into the newly arrived system cures its ills, and it works! All of this finally leads up to the question: Are the EXEC chips more prone to failure than some of the others? Based on the chip documentation, it seems this one in particular is critical for the boot process to work properly. In my test cases, in which all the socketed chips are 'Known Good' and this particular one (the 'DUT') is bad, it usually manifests as a black screen, somewhat frequently as a screen showing only one color, occasionally changing from black to one solid color, and rarely as "garbled" (typically a bunch of GROM characters). Not sure if this is useful to any other troubleshooters, or perhaps this is already on the list.

  3. Been going on a bit of a repair kick lately and got myself into a bit of trouble / mystery. Way back in the olden days, I got a catalog in the mail from some outfit named INTV Corporation. I ordered an INTV System III from them - so I could have my very own Intellivision to haul off to college! In the ensuing years, that system has gone through quite a lot, even tolerating my "repairs". One time when opening it (another story there, let's just say it needed fixing), I essentially destroyed the ribbon cable connecting the power board to the main board. I hacked together an absolutely horrible solution, and so it stayed for the past 15 years or so. I started using different systems as "daily drivers". I finally decided to remedy the hacky repair, because the system was unstable due to … shall we say … some extremely bad work on my part. At the time I did the "repair" I damaged the traces on the power board where the ribbon cable used to be, and age has not been kind to that board. (In my defense, I did the repair using materials at hand and a soldering gun -- yeah, that was fun!) OK, backstory done. Let's move to today: I removed the mess from the old "repair" and put in something more tidy and less prone to accidental grounding-of-things-that-should-not-be-grounded. However, the damage done so many years back must have caused more issues. The system seemed to work -- until I closed it all up. More investigation revealed further connectivity problems due to damaged traces. So, I reworked the connections again. More stress on an already compromised board... Now, I still have a really bad multimeter. If you're curious, it's this one. So while I can say the voltages on the connector pins are "ballpark", I can't say with any confidence that they are "in spec". Here's the weirdness: One controller does not work. (the right controller). But only with this power board. If I connect a different power board, both controllers work just fine. With this super duper hacky-fixed-up power board, only the left controller works. Using the 4.1 test cart, the chips all pass tests, etc. but I get zero response from the right controller... Swapping back to the brand new power board, everything works just fine. Ideas? I'd like to keep the original parts intact - hacked up damage and all - if possible. Plus it's useful to have a functioning, separate power board available for testing things like this.
  4. In some stuff we got from David Chandler's estate, there was a videotape from December, 1981, that appears to be test video of the Super-STIC, which Keith had indicated entered development in 1982. I guess that story isn't completely right.
  5. Just wondering if these parts commonly go on a intv model 1. Mine works but the board is black. It's the two black parts. Just want to know in case I have to order parts in the future.
  6. Just curious on this topic. I recently purchased a Sears SVA unit from an AA member, and shortly after, another one on eBay. I immediately noticed there was a difference in the gold color of the controllers, on/off switch and reset button between the two units. I took out a third SSVA unit I had, sure enough there was. That one was more silver in color than the other two. All three of these units are original to my best knowledge. Moving on to the Mattel unit, then the Sylvania and finally my Tandy unit. The Sylvania has a very metallic/silver look. The Tandy is more gold shaded, with the Mattel being close to the same. Whereas the Sears units actually look more gold in color, but different shades between production years. Was this the case with these models, all being sold under different labels, or am I just seeing things? If there are color variations in the controllers, what years are the deepest color gold? I would think first generation models? More fun INTV triva...? Thanks for the clarification. JR
  7. The attached image is from an INTV catalog. Was the Intellivision released by INTV with the blank lower faceplate as shown here? I have only seen the Super Pro and INTV System III faceplates there. I now have both the Super Pro and INTV System III versions, as well as Sears, Sylvania, Tandy, Mattel for the 2609 and the Intellivision II with and without the red stripe. Are there any other US varieties of the console? (I also have a Bandai system on the way).
  8. Hi all I'm thinking about releasing the OST of Sydney Hunter and the Caverns of Death (when the game is released for Colecovision), but I want to make a very high end release even if is only digital. My first idea was a Caverns Of Death OST with the music of every port of the game. But I think "Why not making a ENORMOUS RELEASE with the music of Sacred Tribe too and with music of at least 6 systems, an acoustic track and a bonus ROM with serial for the first 25 orders?". Basically like 60 tracks (or more) So, my idea is the next one: Sydney Hunter Definitive OST! - Sydney Hunter and the Shrine Of Perils music of Intellivision - Sydney Hunter and the Sacred Tribe OST music of Intellivision, MSX, NES. - Sydney Hunter and the Caverns of Death OST music of Colecovision, Sega Master System FM Sound, Gameboy. - A special acoustic song of Sydney Hunter and Sacred Tribe. - First 25 orders gets a ROM with the OST of both games for Intellivision. (Yes, even the Caverns Of Death music!) - Digital release, high quality FLAC files without compression. - Physical release? If the people wants, sure! Any ideas? Anybody is interested? Thanks for reading c:

  10. Nine Intellivision cartridges. I acquired these 22 years ago and they worked at the time, but I never have owned, do not own, and do not intend to own an Intellivision, so here they are and I have no way to test them today. Varying degrees of completeness, but all including boxes. Bear in mind the boxes have not been well taken care of but are mostly intact: most have some level of having been crushed and the Donkey Kong box is ripped. I will not be parting these out. I am offering these FREE, just pay for shipping. I am in the process of clearing out stuff I no longer or cannot use. I would rather get these into a good home than send to donation, likely to be destroyed, or recycle. Shipping will be via USPS Large Flat-Rate Priority. 12. So I regard this as one of the best arcade-style maze games of all time and easily among my top games in the Intellivision library; it's a shame that this title didn't get more attention imo. Everything from the wall-to-wall music (unheard of at the time) to the art design and animation work is simply wonderful. That and it's a game that I have always found to be very enjoyable and boasting a surprising amount of strategic depth and complexity for something from so early in the history of video games. Back in the day I never could get past Level 9 though. Then a few years ago I picked up the Intellivision Lives collection for the Nintendo DS/3DS and my interest was rekindled. I just had to beat that dreaded Level 9, demons be damned! And so one day I finally did and reveled in the elation of my hard-fought triumph. Then out of curiosity I looked online to see if I could find recorded footage of someone else showing this as well but came up empty. So I thought well how cool would it be to be someone to do it? The problem is I just didn't have any practical means of recording gameplay, whether from the 3DS or original Intellivision hardware. But then one day I discovered the jzINTV emulator and all that changed. Fast forward a bit and here we are now. My tactics have continued to evolve as I've honed my skills in this game to new levels. For those interested or who may also have a love for this game I present to you for consumption my latest deep run to Level 15: I hope that folks will enjoy it and/or that it could serve as a learning tool for this excellent game, and perhaps people could glean new strategies from it for their own play. I have also toyed with the idea of writing a strategy guide for the game as well as I haven't really seen one out there. Hmmm perhaps one day =P
  13. Hello, I am Oscar Kenneth, from Kai Magazine Software. A few months back I presented you a Project we were working on: Thio’s odyssey. Turns out I received some offers and the game will be published by Elektronite, with a different name (Ninja Odyssey) and lots of changes and improvements. The premise is very different now and the playability has evolved a lot, including different shurikens, a red suit for double jump, an intro, final bosses, smooth moving multi-colored enemies and many more things. I am attaching a video link and some snapshots: The video is recorded at 30 Fps but the game runs perfectly smooth at 60 Fps, so it will look much better on your console. This game does not require any additional hardware and it works on any Intellivision console. We are working on other Intellivision games, so if you like this one, stay tunned That’s all for now. I hope you like the game.
  14. Hello all! As some of you know, Braxton Soderman and I (Tom Boellstorff) are hard at work on our book about Intellivision (and having a wonderful time with it). I've recently run into a wall looking for a document and wanted to see if any of you could leverage your superpower sleuthing skills on our behalf. In February, 1982 a report “The Video Game Industry” was issued by an analyst at Goldman Sachs named Richard Simon. References to this report appear in places like PlayThings magazine, and also three times in the New York times in 1982-83: https://www.nytimes.com/1983/10/17/business/video-games-industry-comes-down-to-earth.html https://www.nytimes.com/1982/10/24/business/what-s-new-in-video-games-taking-the-zing-out-of-the-arcade-boom.html https://www.nytimes.com/1982/12/19/business/the-game-turns-serious-at-atari.html But I cannot find this report anywhere online. Folks at the Strong Institute of Play have tried as well with no success. I have contacted Goldman Sachs but they are so secretive they will not even confirm if they still have a copy or not. I'm going to keep trying to find someone at Goldman who would be willing to help track down this 37-year-old report that can't possibly be of use to them now lol. But given that the report was quoted in PlayThings, the New York Times, etc., some copies of it must have been distributed to some folks in the industry. It might be lost forever, which would be a shame, but I'm going to keep trying on my part. But if anyone out there can find a copy of this, we'll be more than happy to thank you in the acknowledgments to our book (if you would like that, screen name or regular name lol). It would be so cool to find out what Simon's analysis of the whole situation was at the time! I'll watch for replies in this space, or you could email me at tboellst@uci.edu if you find any leads!
  15. I am looking for an Intellivision (plug in play or classic). Let me know if you have one you'd like to part with and we can discuss it. Thanks!!
  16. INTRODUCING THE ALL NEW IMAGIC OVERLAYS 2.0 FOR INTELLIVISION This keypad overlay set was inspired by the metallic Boxes & Labels that most IMAGIC Intellivision games had way back when. IMAGIC never made metallic matching overlays for their titles. For that reason this new metallic backed overlay set has been created to fill this gap. Only 100 sets of this collection has been produced. Once they are gone, they're gone. This hand made DIY overlay set includes: • 15 pairs of metallic backed Overlays in the style of IMAGIC (30 total overlays) which included in that 15 pairs is one pair of Wing War overlays. • 2 Limited edition metallic trading cards of unreleased IMAGIC Intellivision games • 1 Instruction manual All shrink wrapped and included in a great authentic metallic IMAGIC styled game box. Pricing is as followed. Each Overlay Set is $76.00 USD plus shipping. Shipping inside the U.S.A. will be USPS Priority Mail $7.00. Shipping to Canada is First Class International mail USPS $12.00. Shipping anywhere else in the world please message me for pricing. I only accept payment via PayPal. The stated shipping cost is for up to 2 copies. Any more than that will require more shipping. IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE ORDERING MORE THAN TWO SETS I NEED YOUR LOCATION TO CALCULATE SHIPPING. TO ORDER: PM me with the subject line "IMAGIC OVERLAYS 2.0 OFFER" and state how many sets you wish to order and what country it will be shipped to. Be sure to include your PayPal email address in your PM. This is so I can send you an invoice. Once the invoice is paid, I should have your order in the mail within 24-36 hours (not including weekends/holidays). Remember there are only 100 0 copies to be sold and no more will be made. Orders are first come first serve (Basically in order of PM's received)! Background of project: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/238317-interest-check-imagic-foil-backed-overlays/
  17. Hey all, have some things I would like to show you all. Probably nothing new on here but I always find it interesting to see other people's finds and get an idea on prices. Also love to see some of the rare and not so average things. These pictures are my latest pickups, interesting to me. Both consoles work fine. Please any reply or posts on pricing or information is much appreciated, thanks! P.s.-I Collect all types of games and systems, 30 in total. Lately (last two years) it's been more cartridge games.
  18. I've been interested in video art for the Bally Arcade/Astrocade for the last year or two. I doubt anything like this existed for the Intellivision back in the 1980s, but does any video art exist for the Intellivision today? Here's an example of video art for the Astrocade that I uploaded today: Here are a few examples of video art for the astrocade that I've uploaded to YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJdViXGk3iI&list=PLADcQ67H2uU0R8npUnSmT6X8Ad6mKh_3o This sort of art can be created relatively easily on the astrocade because it has a bit-mapped screen and BASIC was available on cartridge. Could intyBASIC be used to make video art like these examples? Adam
  19. The title pretty much says it all. Has no one attempted/succeed at this? Google searches are fruitless. I feel like, out of several billions of people alive today, I may be the ONE person looking to output my Intellivision via Component. ??‍♂️ I'm weird like that, I guess.
  20. Not major, but really like this new fridge magnet I got off of eBay. It's 3D printed. No promises your order will include one, but mine included a free kick-stand which is how it is propped up in the photo. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 233171802210
  21. HI! New to the forums, so apologies in advance for the noob question. I recently picked up an Intellivoice module (boxed and cheap) and am struggling to get anything close to reasonable play out of it. My brown original console works, controllers are fine, etc. I can play game cartridges with no problems, etc. However, inserting the Intellivoice and then inserting a cartridge results in the black screen 9 times out of 10. After fiddling with it, re-inserting it, cleaning the cartridge slot, etc. I can get it to work for a session, then am back to square one the next day. I've noticed that there is not a "tight" fit between the console and the intellivoice module. I've also noticed quite a bit of "play" in the connection between the two. Is this normal? Do I just have a "loose" module? Is there an optimal connection point or angle between the two? Even just pulling out a cartridge and putting in another one is enough to break this connection and send me back to square one. Haven't tried taking the module apart yet for a really deep cleaning, but am willing to go that route for a reliable connection. Thanks in advance for any advice!
