I had a good find at Goodwill yesterday in Great Lakes Atari Digest newsletters from the late 80's and early 90's. This was a cool piece of history as an Atari fan. I've messaged some people on Facebook who share the names with the authors of some of the articles in hopes of finding some of them. Atari STs seem to get talked about a lot in these. Did anyone ever write or subscribe to one of these?

I just received a couple of the Cauzin Softstrip Readers, and after looking through everything included, there's no software to create my own barcodes! Does anyone have software that will let you print your own? BASIC Week started today on RetroBattlestations and I thought it would be fun to offer the program in the softstrip format.

Hello! Long time lurker of the forums here at AtariAge, this is my first post ever! I wanted to let you know of a project I am involved in, a New Retro Gaming Magazine called "Classic Console Magazine". As someone who has lurked on the site for a while, I know of all of the people who claim they are working on a retro gaming magazine, only for it never to see the light of day. I also know that there is an awesome magazine called Retro that many on here subscribe to. Understanding that, we are attempting to approach things from a different avenue. We are doing this as we are fans of retro gaming, and are offering it for FREE and via digital only. The old model of magazine subscriptions is dying, and if we did it the traditional way and offered print copies from the start, we wouldn't last anymore than a couple of months.. we are also a monthly publication, as we felt having monthly issues instead of bi-monthly will help us grow a larger base of subscribers quicker by offering more good content. I also decided to wait until the first issue was out to post here just so everyone knows we are really serious! We are in this for the long haul. If you would like to subscribe, simply visit our website: classicconsolemag.weebly.com I am always looking for article submissions, so if you have any ideas for an article you might want published send me an email: classicconsolemag@gmail.com We already have a small team of dedicated writers in place, but the more the merrier! Unfortunately at this point we can not provide any compensation for articles submitted, we are all doing it as a labor of love.. maybe someday that will change. I have added a few pics so you guys can know what we are all about. Thanks for your time! -Josh

Greetings all. I'm new to the forum, and bringing you a bit of sad news which some of you may have heard already. Steve Morgenstern (Captain Steve), the editor-in-chief of Atari Age Magazine in the 80's, passed away last month from a heart attack at age 50. Steve was my fiancee's father. He continued working in gaming and tech journalism after Atari Age ceased publication, writing for Rolling Stone, Popular Science, Playboy, Cigar Aficionado, AARP and others. A very cool guy indeed. My kind of guy. Fun, witty, geeky, charming, and endlessly, encyclopedically knowledgable about games, movies, TV and music. It's a tragedy that he passed away so young.

I've been messing around with magazine type-in games again these last few weeks, at the minute I'm on Compute!. I came across Meteor Storm and couldn't get it working under XE OS. Tried all sorts but it wasn't happening. MC was the only way, but my MC-fu is weak. Several hours later and I've found a memory move routine that works backwards (necessary in this case). Several more hours later and I've got it working after figuring out how to do addition in MC (very painful). A couple more hours and I've integrated it into the game and it is working fine, to my eternal joy. Fix notes: This game refuses to work on XL/XE systems as originally printed. The reverse scroll of the meteors is achieved by fooling the OS into thinking it is in mode 0 when it is actually in mode 1, and then printing an insert line character at the top of the screen. While this works on the 400/800 OS, under the XL/XE it does something evil to the display RAM, corrupting it and making the game unplayable. To fix this, I have added a small MC routine to replace the print of the insert line character. The MC routine detects the address of the start of screen RAM, and copies lines 23-3 to the next line down in reverse order. A normal memory move wouldn't have worked as the source and destination overlap. And here they are; bootable ATR (Basic required), and the BAS and LST (as a TXT) files for your pleasure. Enjoy! PS, Atarimania are more than welcome to add this to their database as a fixed version. Meteor Storm (XL fixed).atr METEORXL.BAS METEORXL.TXT

I have 27 original Antic floppies dated from 1987 through 1990. (There is one copy in there too, as a 28th). Most of them are NOT written on like the example on the left is. The two shown are the only two with Antic sleeves, the rest are blank or other styles. Is there any value in these? If they're literally just worth the cost of shipping, I'll just keep them, but if not, please make an offer of cash or trade. Just putting feelers out there. Thanks!

Do any of you remember a magazine called Video Game Update? I believe it was a small press publication that ran all through the eighties, and it was the only contemporary magazine to review the early NES output, such as Super Mario Bros. (If I'm not mistaken--I've never seen a copy of the mag). I'm looking for issues scanned online, or hard copies to purchase. If you have any info, please let me know. Thanks!

Sega Force Mega Edition 01 to 07 the last one... "Sega Force Mega was marketed as a grown-up games publication that would better compete with Future’s MEGA magazine. The first issues were produced at Europress Impact, but later the magazine was outsourced to a company located in Newton Abbot, while Impact staff moved on to a new magazine, Mega Machines. Each issue of Sega Force Mega featured 100 pages, consisting of news features, reviews, G-Force and a buyers guide. Six issues were published along with a ‘special’ seventh issue that included past reviews and news" http://gameplayerspecial.com/2012/08/29/sega-force-mega-issue-01-august-1993/ http://gameplayerspecial.com/2012/08/30/sega-force-mega-issue-02-to-07/ In Video format, see in 1080p and in full screen... Anyone that has ever started a business knows that it is quite a financial undertaking and sometimes can be mind blowingly tough, though extremely rewarding at the same time. We have hit a road block with Retro Gaming Magazine and bringing it to life. Asking for help is humbling and hard to do, especially with a project like this. There is quite a bit of interest in Retro Gaming Magazine and we are dedicated to making it happen. We humbly ask anyone that is even slightly interested in seeing the mag happen to please check out the project page and if possible, chip in something to help. We have a solid team running the magazine including: Martin Alessi who was Art Director for Electronic Gaming Monthly in the early 90's and helped shape the magazine early in it's life. Martin has taken up art duties for Retro Gaming Magazine. Compare his cover (and when we can release them, his layouts for issue #1) to the preview pages I created and it is like a night and day improvement. Several staff members have worked with Gamefan Magazine in reviving the magazine with issue #6 (released around the summer of last year). These include: Nick Abrams, well known to The Retro League community as one of the co-hosts of the show (we stole him away to work on the mag that he is co-owner of). Nick was one of the new writers to provide retro content that debuted that section in Gamefan Magazine. Michael Crisman, our resident retro scribe (dude can throw words like no one's business), while he worked on Gamefan #6, he still resides at Video Game Cowboys under the moniker, Modern Zorker. Carl Williams (the guy writing this), known to many as TriVerse and generally a loudmouth and co-owner. I am currently the guy that will get yelled at a lot for the mag not being it's best. If anyone can help promote the project page, that would be great. The more people that see it, the more likely it will be funded and we can realize the dream in it's full range.
