So I bought Shantae Half Genie Hero yesterday at Lamestop (only place locally that had it) for all of $32 dollars including tax. It was one of the best game purchase values of my life as far as the packaging/price/contents/game quality mix goes. It came with no less than: -Box -Game in case -Thick full color Manual -Accompanying soundtrack CD If all games still came packaged like this i'd still be buying new consoles and games. The kicker is, I inserted the game and it fired right up, no hour long updates or servers to log into. Fun game too.

Hey all. Does anyone have a blank diagram/sketch/template of an Intellivision controller? Using one would help me visualize game, um, controlling some game ideas I have. Is there anyone out there who owns the DOS XL Manual that would be willing to scan the front and back covers (as per pictured below)? I have a good copy of the manual content that I'm working on getting the pages in proper order (may straighten them out too). Then I'll be bookmarking this and posting it to my website for download. I can walk around and pick things up....and then I get attacked and die. Pressed every button on my XEGS keyboard and nothing. Couldn't find an A8 manual, playing it on 5.25 floppy! This one seems like it could be fun but just need to figure out the controls. Thanks in advance! -

Hello everyone! I recently purchased an XEGS with 4 carts, keyboard, light gun and original PSU, for about US$70 on eBay. Unfortunately, i was DOA (Red Screen of Death), but the seller promptly refunded me and allowed me to keep the item! So, I intend now to try to fix it, being that it is now literally free... By doing some research, I understand that the first suspect for this RSoD is the RAM chip(s). I already ordered a couple of Samsung 64K x 4 RAM chips for a couple of bucks each (same class as the original ones, although I read that the Texas Instruments were more common), but I thought that maybe a field service manual for the XEGS would come very handy on this, and any future, repair. However I've found service manuals for almost any other 8-bit Atari computer but the XE Game System (I found just the owner's manual). So, anyone have a PDF dump of those that could kindly share?

Recently, I picked up a boxed but incomplete Sears Video Arcade 4-switch. But I need to get a cardboard insert for it. I guess it's the same insert as a regular Atari 2600 4-switch insert? I'm also looking for a box, insert, manual for my Sears Super Video Arcade (Intellivision). If anyone can help me out, it'd be much appreciated. I can do cash via Paypal, or trades.

Inside every ColecoVision cartridge manual, there always is this line of text... "Press the Reset button and the title screen for (name of game cartridge) will appear on your TV." I suspect they really mean for you to turn the OFF/ON switch to ON, when the cartridge is inserted into the console. So, does anyone else know what that cryptic line of text means/meant? ~Ben

There is just one book left, which seems to be lost: 30 Days to Understanding BASIC XL - Bill Wilkinson and Diane Goldstein If anyone of you has this book, we would really appreciate that to complete the BASIC XL project. The first section, an exhaustive tutorial entitled, "30 Days to Under standing BASIC XL," takes the novice by hand and walks him through the fundamentals of BASIC programming. Experienced programmers can proceed directly to the excellent 135-page reference section. Review - BASIC XL BASIC XL OPTIMISED SYSTEMS SOFTWARE 1173D S. Saratoga/Sunnyvale Rd. San Jose, CA 95129 (408) 446-3099 16K Cartridge $99.00 by Robert L. Riggs Optimised Systems Software (O.S.S.) has done it again! Bill Wilkinson & Co. have put the cap on the BASIC language for Atari computers: BASIC XL. It's neatly wrapped and documented in a yellow binder which accompanies the bright orange cartridge. The documentation begins with a 176-page tutorial entitled "30 Days to Understanding BASIC XL," written by Bill Wilkinson and Diane Goldstein. If you are a complete novice at BASIC programming, this book and a fair amount of determination are all you will need to learn to use your Atari computer. Bill and Diane introduce you to BASIC XL with the "chapter-a-day" system: 30 chapters, beginning with "Getting to know your computer" and extending through "Congratulations: 30 END." Following the tutorial is the reference manual which documents the entire language, including 45 syntax expressions and keywords not found in 8K Atari BASIC. It's a well-known fact that Bill Wilkinson was part of the team that developed 8K Atari BASIC. He's written more than once of the bugs and limitations inherent in that language. BASIC A+ did much to alleviate those shortcomings, but it was disk-based and devoured too much memory. BASIC XL is on cartridge and, because of its memory bank design, uses no more RAM than Atari BASIC. Critics of the execution speed of other versions of BASIC will find little to complain about with regard to O.S.S.'s latest achievement. BASIC programs previously typed in from magazines and abandoned because of their boring snail-pace run at arcade speeds with BASIC XL. In fact, timing loops almost invariably have to be extended when running Atari BASIC programs with BASIC XL. That's right, BASIC XL is upward compatible with Atari BASIC, unlike MicroSoft BASIC. And it still offers MicroSoft-style string-handling, auto line-numbering, renumbering and line delete. Other useful additions to the BASIC vocabulary include ELSE, WHILE, ENDIF, ENDWHILE, PRINT USING, TAB and TRACE/TRACEOFF. Player-missile graphics are of particular interest to many Atari programmers. Dozens of articles and programs in a variety of books and magazines are devoted to utility programs to help you design and use players and/or missiles. O.S.S. provides you with BASIC commands to deal with these pesky critters. just wait until you can use commands like MISSILE, BUMP, PMCOLOR, PMGRAPHICS, PMMOVE, PMWIDTH and PMCLR. You'll love it! SET is another new and extremely powerful command. It allows you to exercise control over a variety of system level functions. You can quickly and easily change 13 functions such as BREAK key enable/disable, Tab stop settings for the comma in PRINT statements, the prompt character for INPUT, auto DIMensioning, and LIST formatter to automatically indent structured statements. DOS commands directly from BASIC include DIR (disk directory), ERASE, PROTECT, UNPROTECT and RENAME. And that's not all. You get additional functions like DPEEK/DPOKE, ERR, FIND, HSTICK/VSTICK, PEN, PMADR and SYS. You can type them all in caps, lower case or even reverse characters for all BASIC XL cares. Just think -- no more angrily hitting the CAPS/LOWR key after a syntax error! Yes, I know that doesn't add up to 45 commands, yet. There are more advanced-technique keywords that some of you will undoubtedly drool over, so I suggest that you run (don't walk) directly to your friendly Atari dealer and buy your very own copy of BASIC XL immediately. It's the here-and-now solution to all your BASIC needs for your Atari computer.

I found a "Product Update" sheet included with some documentation I received a while back, which has a number of corrections to the Atari BASIC Reference Manual for the 400/800. I'm curious if these are common items out there and whether or not there are other Product Update sheets for Atari hardware and software documentation? Also, if so, is anybody scanning these in and archiving them?

The title says it all. And no, I'm not talking about the cheat itself; I mean a gameplay explanation. While the original Battlezone is simple, the new version is quite complex, and the lack of documentation is a problem. I managed to pick up some items, others not... never could I complete a mission. Is there any kind of manual out there? Or can someone here give a good explanation?

Hello guys, Since I was taking pictures of the Blue Book and the Fan Club Newsletter I decided to take a couple of extra ones of some Manual Variations that have not been registered on the Intellivision Fun House website. I particularly like the Microsurgeon manual as it has its own artwork inside. It looks like an anatomy textbook. Does anyone have any other ones? Cheers, Oscar

My old college buddy has offloaded his old 7800 to me, telling me to use it or dispose of it as I see fit. Thus have I scribed this notice upon eBay to advertise and dispose of it. Some sort of modified cartridge that accepts 24-pin chips (I believe they're EEPROM chips?) with burned games is included. It's been a year since I was last here. I've picked up Chimera again and am making progress there. Also, yesterday I decided to finally scan my entire Atari 400/800 Operating System Source Listing. I'm going to post it on my Chimera blog and when I do, I'll check back here and let you know. Not sure how useful it will be, but I Recall some people saying they'd like to see it. It's at 600dpi, so you can see the coffee stains on the cover and the grain of every page! It weighs in at over 400MB, so if anyone has any ideas on how to bring that down a bit without degrading the quality, I'd appreciate it. -
