I just got my Model 1 VA6.x (not sure if it's 6.5 or 6.8) recapped with new capacitors from console5.com. Got them soldered by a local PC repair shop. But I'm pretty sure it's not suppose to sound like this. It's pretty loud and drowns out alot of detail in the music and the treble seems high and shrill sounding depending on the instrument playing. My original childhood VA7 however sounds great in comparison, with punchier bass and percussion. It's much more balanced sounding. And the VA7 is supposed to be the "stinker" model 1s. What's the deal? Is there another component on the board bad on the VA6.x? Something to do with the low or high pass filter? I pretty much don't know anything about electronics/circuitry. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks!

I've recently purchased a non-working Sega CD off of e-Bay that had a problem with the tray constantly ejecting and not spinning discs. After some minor gear realignment and a belt change I was able to get the tray working 100% but for some reason I am still not able to load any games . Strange thing about this is I am still able to play audio CDs just fine. I've tested the games it came with on a modchiped Xbox and they played fine so I am begining to think this may be some kind of laser issue. I've already tried all the basic cleaning steps and am ready to consult the experts. I want to bring this thing back to life! P.S. Any experience with generic KSS-240A laser pickups? -
I've had a Model 1 "High Definition Graphics" VA6 Sega Genesis for a few months now and have been playing it on an almost daily basis, and it's worked great. Up until this past week that is when all of a sudden the music started cutting out for a second or two in games about 25% of the time when a sound effect is played at the same time as the music, and sound effects would often drag on for a second or so longer than they were supposed to and sound distorted. This has happened in every game I've played lately (I've tried half a dozen or so different games) but is rather random, sometimes I'll play a game and it'll sound fine and other times the music will cut out randomly and the sound effects will be drawn out and distorted. I've tried using a regular old mono composite cable for A/V output and I've tried patching the sound through the headphone jack on the front of the system for stereo sound instead, but the audio problems persist regardless of whether the sound is coming out of the mono composite jack on the back of the system or the headphone jack on the front. Does this sound like a capacitor issue that could be remedied by ordering a cap kit and replacing all the capacitors or could there be something else funky going on with my Sega Genesis? -

I went ahead and ordered one and I'll let you folks know what I think of it once it arrives in the mail from the UK in a week or two.

I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the Intellivision Model 1 system can be modified to be compatible with the Atari 2600 System Changer as well as a Composite A/V mod at the same time? If so, are the modifications easy or are they pretty difficult? I'm really interested in this because it seems like these mods would kill two birds with one stone, especially since my 2600 died recently. Any light that can be shed on the subject is greatly appreciated! Thanks! -
I am about to purchase a Sega Genesis Model 1. My local plan n' trade has a few "High Definition Graphics" models available, and I have had them set aside a TMSS one and a non-TMSS one for me (I'm a good customer What are peoples thought's on this? Here is my take right now- TMSS Model- Higher video/audio quality due to higher quality capacitors. Downside being some games locked out... Non-TMSS model: Will play all games, Dry capacitors can lead to rainbow banding and other picture/sound quality issues. I'm thinking go with the TMSS model and if a few games are locked out, so be it, it will be worth the higher video/audio quality. I'm thinking that's a cheaper option than replacing the capacitors on a non-TMSS model? What are your thoughts?

I am about to plug a 32x into my model 1. I often use the headphone jack at night on my genesis model one so as not to wake the house. If I have a 32x plugged in, will I still be able to use the jack (to listen to both 32x and Genesis games plugged into the 32x unit)? Or am I better off getting sound from my TV or receiver via the Genesis 2 av cables? I also noticed that sound from the headphone jack has a reasonable amount of background noise compared to getting it from the receiver (from the same source!-that is to say I plug the headphone jack into the "aux in" on my Sony Surround sound amp. I'm thinking this is because most modern receivers have built in Noise Reduction technology for any analog signals it receives. Has anyone else noticed this? Lastly I have seen cables that connect the headphone jack and genesis to the 32x. Are these necessary? Isn't true stereo for both 32x and Genesis games coming out of the back of the 32x via the Genesis 2 AV cables? Thanks

So I was fortunate enough to come across a fully-functioning Sega-CD Model 1 out in the wild. It's also in pristine cosmetic shape with the exception that it's missing the plastic CD tray cover that has the Sega CD logo. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about: (The thing circled in red is the part I need) I was wondering, if any of you have a Model 1 SCD laying around that you're using for parts, or otherwise doesn't work, I would really like this piece of plastic that would complete my Sega CD.
