  1. DUCKTALES 1987 THEME SONG (All-in-one archive) : DUKETALES1987.zip This archive contains the Ducktales theme song I've composed a few days ago. This archive is also updated to contain both PAL and NTSC versions, technically making it sounds just fine regardless if you are using the NTSC or PAL ColecoVision game system. WARNING! The music may play at the wrong speed if you are using a modded ColecoVision or an emulator. For example, setting 50Hz on BlueMSX but still using the NTSC ColecoVision BIOS results into a slower theme song. If you are curious, unzip everything in a single folder, modify one of the ASM source files, and double-click the "compile.bat" file to generate a new ROM file (if the modification is valid). Anyway, enjoy the new ROM file with all the files to make it. PS.: I know, I've called the project DUKETALES on my computer... why? I don't know, I just did it that way.
  2. I get messages asking how do I compose music for the ColecoVision. I hope this will answer your questions. SCREENSHOTS The only softwares I'm using to compose music for years now. VIDEO The music playing on BlueMSX at 50Hz clock And that's it. I'm not using any music tool nor a midi keyboard which I would like to use; I use my imagination and start coding with time and dedication, trials and errors. STORY TIME Late April 2018 With the positive comments received about my CV Commando music-box, and not yet decided about a game project to do, I wanted to compose another CV song during the last week of April. After watching multiple videos of beloved 80s music, and some videos about a SNES ROM hack called GrandPooBear World filled with music, I've finally selected Africa by Toto. I was a bit afraid to not be able to make it sounds good after hearing the Commodore 64 version I've found that I didn't like much, but the song repeats enough and uses an interesting rhythm variation that I love composing with a drum beat (usually when we *clap* our hands) at every 3/4 per bar (measure), like in Commando and many other songs I've composed so far. April 28, 2018 I went babysitting to help a friend who desperately needed someone for an hour or two. On my way back home, I've stopped at a coffee shop to compose my vision of the ColecoVision version of this music. After many hours calculating and tweaking what each sound channel should do to get a pretty good version of the chorus part, and probably looking like a weirdo moving my hands in the air to the music nobody was hearing, I've decided to stop there, send an email, and let my ears relax. My calculations surprised me to see that power of 2s cycles per note were ideal for the PAL version and so I've decided to go with it. FILE: toto-20180428.zip April 29, 2018 Encouraged by what I've started, I've composed the music intro (riff part) which added the xylophone instrument and a reverb voice effect. But hearing both parts back to back felt a bit off. After some tweaking by reducing the duration of the drum sounds to give more time for the bass notes, both parts sounded finally great together (uniformity of the rhythm). Then I got a call; my friend needed my help again. Back home, I've composed a verse by using the same trick as in Time Pilot by playing the same note on 2 channels but slightly different to get almost the same effect as singing on multiple tracks. (save) FILE: toto-20180429.zip April 30, 2018 After dinner, I've started to compose pretty much everything else which added the flute (recorder) instrument, with the help of some music sheets. I've also tweaked the high pitched notes in the chorus part to not be that loud compared to the rest of the song. I had to stop before completing the solo part; my eyes were redder than ever, it was time to sleep. As a surprise and email test, I've sent this file to some Coleco homebrewers and fans; got a bunch of emails bouncing back but some reached destination. FILE: toto-20180430.zip May 1st, 2018 At lunchtime, I took a moment to complete the solo. Finally! Time to share it online! I've created this post on AtariAge and sent a message on Twitter about it. (save) FILE: toto-20180501.zip Not bad, isn't it? I've even muted one of the 3 tones channels to use its frequency to play bass notes on the noise channel. And keep in mind the sound chip has fewer possibilities than many other sound chips of the time, no triangle wave, no PCM sample, nothing. Simulated instruments: drum *clap*, maraca, bass, keyboard, guitar, flutes, xylophone, voice, chorus. Share and Comment :-)
  3. I'm leaving here the first draft of a music I'm currently working on. It's based on a famous chiptune many should recognize. It took me about 3 hours to figure out the proper notes, sound effects and what overall feels nice to my ears (essentially means, I am able to listen without the feeling that something is out of place). Keep in mind that I code music note by note, no help of any music tracker, it's all done by hand which takes a lot of time, patience, a minimum of music knowledge, and listening to the original material over and over again. You can try to compile the music data in a program with the proper calls to the Coleco OS sound routines, check the coding guides, OS7 ColecoVision BIOS listing. It should also work with ADAM EOS sound routines since they are essentially the same. You can also try to use a keyboard and play the notes mentioned in the comments. You can also play directly the data with one of my sound tools without compiling anything. Hint: the capital letters HS refer to the words High Score. And for those who really can't try the music data listings, at least you can listen to the result. So,anybody got some good explosions sound effects? also need dropping sound and firing laser sound. in fact, maybe this be a good thread for consolidating sound effects. no need to re-invent the wheel when someone else has already done it for you.
  6. Hi guys ! Anybody knows how to stop RMT music play but keep sfx playing ? I've tried stopping music, disabling irq (that calls music play), but I either get music+sfx or nothing... I would like to turn of music so it doesn't waste cpu time, but keep possibility of playing sfx when needed. Any help appreciated ! Vladimir
  7. Hi everyone, I started a little project to get funds to attend RUMSX at Winter 2018 at Barcelona, Spain. So I decided to edit the music of Mecha-8 and Mecha-9 together in a single CD. Nanochess said to me "Include too the PSG music", because I only I had included the FM music present on the MSX version of the game, so, the final result is a 56 tracks CD with a beautiful cover in a vinyl style CD into a very nice CD box. This is a limited edition, because of that, I'm only releasing 50 copies of Mecha OST (right now, just 45 because I sold 5 at past weeks), if you want one, welp, you can order here, just sent me a PM and you will get the details c: Also, I'm selling the OST of "Sydney Hunter & The Sacred Tribe" featuring the 9 tracks of the Game Of The Year for Intellivision with the original art of the game-box! Right now just have 46 copies of the OST, hurry up to get yours! Some history In 2011 I started composing music for MSX for a fortuity, my brother needed music for a game called Zombie Near that was going to send to the MSXDEV 10, which ended in second place. In 2012 I composed music for Mecha-8, a vertical scrolling shooter that ended in fourth place in MSXDEV 2011, and later, thanks to MATRA Corp, went on sale in an improved version in physical version (cartridge) and had an excellent reception with Spanish/Dutch MSX community. And shortly after it was published in Colecovision by part of Team Pixelboy, resulting in a great success within the Canadian community. In 2014, the Mecha-8 license was sold to AtGames, and the game was included in the ColecoVision Flashback console as a special addition with other greatest original hits. This console was sold in the United States and Canada in stores such as Walmart, Sam's Club, Dollar General and others. In 2015, the enthusiasm generated by Mecha-8 made Mecha-9 possible, edited with luxury on ColecoVision/MSX by Team Pixelboy in Canada and MATRA Corp/Bitwise in Spain/Holland. The FM soundtrack that I compose is my great pride, also, the Japanese translation by B. Shigeru (which made it possible to enter the MSX homebrew market in Japan) makes the game a must-have for any MSX fan. In 2016, I was called to make the Sydney Hunter & The Sacred Tribe soundtrack, a new CollectorVision game for Intellivision. The game was voted the best game of 2016 (GOTY = Game Of The Year) by the community of AtariAge and its first edition finished quickly. Shortly thereafter, a conversion was made for ColecoVision/MSX, becoming the first commercial game to go on sale for Colecovision after 15 years! Sydney Hunter & The Sacred Tribe will also be released for the Sega Master System under the Acclaim brand, and ports for NES, Gameboy Advance and probably C64 are being prepared. That makes me the first Mexican to have made a soundtrack present in six different consoles! (Intellivision, MSX, Colecovision, Sega Master System, NES, Gameboy Advance). Other projects I have participated in have been Remember The Flag for Colecovision and I also collaborated with the music in the game Corrupted Data for PC, an RPG that celebrates the seventh anniversary of Miku Hatsune, the Vocaloid diva. Thanks for reading, guys. Later!
  8. In order not to pollute the thread of Sound List Ripper with this, I've created a small utility in VB5 which converts MID files into TI-99 sound lists. It's somewhat crude, but I'm posting it anyway since there has been interest in it. I think it facilitates the development of sound lists for the TI-99 which are a nice, compact format with a player built into ROM. You can find details on its usage in the README file supplied with it. The ZIP file contains an EXE file, the source code project and the README file. Oh, sorry to say, but since it was developed in VB5, it only runs on Windows. I'm not exactly sure which versions it will run on, but I'm pretty sure it will run on Windows XP, 7 and 10. Maybe earlier versions (from 95 upward) are also OK, but I haven't tested it. Enjoy! Kurt MIDI_TO_Sound_List_0_0_1.zip
  9. Hey guys! So, I really like Tim Follin and his music, so I decided to cover Tim Follin's Chronos on the Atari ST/ZX Spectrum + AY. I made this with Vortex Tracker II. 10. This my homage to the WB character Michigan J. Frog and the song "Hello Ma Baby!" Speech is used, but not required (there will be no frog croaking sound effect but it should not effect the rest of the program. [Effect borrowed from the game "homeward bound"]) Only the part of the song used in the cartoon is played, and lyrics are displayed in time with the music. Does not sound so good in classic99, but sounds decent in MAME, sounds great on real console. Please forgive the poor graphics quality on the opening screen.
  11. I wanted to start an open discussion on music programming with the Atari 800XL home computer. This topic is for sharing Atari basic source code for music and sound effects as well as learning how to program chiptunes on your Atari at home. I hope here we can learn and experience more about programming in basic and help others write their own music projects with this classic system. Rock on! \m/

  13. It's been a while, here's something fairly original. I don't like the long note breaks, but they are OK and I'm kind of done with tinkering with this one. I know other folks are busy making games, so maybe this will help someone that needs a title page song or intermission song or something. HTH. Free to use, don't even have to credit me if you don't want.
  14. Hi everyone, I just want to share some tunes I made using 15 kHz clocked Pokey in basic version of Raster Music Tracker (1.28). I believe they sound a bit different than tunes made with a regular clock (64 kHz). So check please if you wish and enjoy! I think they sound best when listened to on a real hardware, therefore I made recordings also and put on my bandcamp profile. So if someone doesn't use a real piece of hardware, please follow the links: http://makarybrauner.bandcamp.com/track/echoes http://makarybrauner.bandcamp.com/track/step-it-up EchoesMB.xex StepItUpMB.xex

ROM FILE : RAINBOW BRITE JUKEBOX 2017.zip SOURCE FILE : RAINBOW BRITE JUKEBOX 2017 (SRC FILES).zip FAQ Q: Software to make the music? A: My own software CVSoundGen.zip and 2 days of patience and listening the theme song in chunks with Audacity. Q: Development kit? A: My own kit based on Marcel deKogel's devkit released in 1998 and adapted to work with SDCC compiler. Q: Can I use this music and sounds for my own projects? A: No, unless I tell you otherwise. Q: Will there be a playable game Rainbow Brite for the ColecoVision? A: Maybe, maybe not. Q: Why you decided to make a jukebox with the Rainbow Brite theme song? A: For fun. First time ever I've heard the music and I quite like how catchy and groovy it sounds as a chiptune.
  16. Some years ago, I wrote some PHP code to convert YM files originally created for the Atari ST to an Intellivision format, along with a CP-1610 assembly player. I was recently asked to share this code, so I thought it would be better to make a public release here, in case other people are interested. The PHP code is pretty bad and not especially fast, but it gets the job done. A YM file basically consists of a large dump of the AY-3-8910 registers, compressed with the LHA algorithm. I'm using this program to unpack the data (the Windows built is included in the archive). The PHP script processes the raw data and re-compress it into the final Intellivision format. The output of this process is a .asm data file which is compatible with the player. If the 5th argument of the ymToIntv::process() method is set to true, it will also attempt to generate the player ROM file, provided that as1600 is available in the path. Again, a Windows environment is assumed, but it should be very easy to have it running in another OS (see ymToIntv::generateRom()). Some YM files include information about special PSG effects. Most of them rely on high-frequency interrupts. These effects are ignored, as the Intellivision would not be able to render them anyway. Consequently, not all YM files can be properly converted. YM files sometimes come in several versions. If possible, choose a version without Digidrums and without SID Voice. The following tunes are included as examples: Best part of the Creation by Gunnar Gaubatz Chambers of Shaolin by Jochen Hippel Crapman Anthems by Joe Maarten de Man Cuddly Demos / Big Sprite by Jochen Hippel Custodian by David Whittaker Decade Demo / Giga-Dist by Nic Alderton Ghouls'n Ghosts Theme by Tim Follin Hystanders 2 by Doclands Leaving Teramis by Jochen Hippel Line of Fire by Tao Primus by Scavenger Rectangular Waves by Nils Feske R-Type Intro by Wally Beben Sharpness Buzztone by Jean-Sébastien Gerard Virtual Escape by Furax Zynaps #1 by Dave Rogers ymToIntv.zip

  21. I finally completed my XGM / VGM player that i started more than 1 year ago It's still not perfect, has some bugs (refresh, playback issues with fast tempo...) but i am happy enough with it's current state so i think it can be released =) XGM player is intended to play XGM music through the XGM driver i developed for Sega Megadrive. I developed a tool to convert Megadrive VGM file into XGM format so you can basically see the XGM player as a Megadrive VGM player... This tool is called xgmtool which is part of SGDK, you can also use it to optimize your Megadrive VGM files (and it does a very good job here compared to others tools). The main difference between VGM and XGM is that XGM allows to play up to 4 PCM at same time where classic Megadrive VGM is limited to 1 PCM channel only... that is an handy feature for game where you can play several SFX at same time through PCM channels, it can be used for richer music as well but currently no tracker support the XGM format. Another interesting part is that XGM format is optimized for Megadrive sound hardware so files are generally 25% smaller than optimized VGM. Currently i only provide a test rom to introduce the XGM player capabilities, and for that what better than a Technosoft compilation Musics from the following games are included in the rom : - Dragon's Fury - Elemental Master - Thunder Force 2/3/4 - Herzog Zwei Because of rom size limitation i could not include all tracks for those games so i made a (personal) selection of 80 tracks. You can download the rom here: https://t.co/xwc9cumECg Small animation : https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video/CnHGA82WIAAuo9B.mp4
  22. I need to raise some money for a Joe Satriani "Chrome Dome" Complete Studio Recordings collection I've just agreed to buy so I thought maybe some of the fine AA folks might be interested in some Vinyl to go with their vintage gaming and computing gear: Prices don't include shipping. Payment via PayPal goods and services (I will accept mailed payments for you non-PP folks). Gradings are Vinyl/Cover. Have any questions feel free to ask! Post sold and then send me a PM so I can send you a total and my PayPal address. $1 off any 2 or $3 off any 4 albums in this thread! Gradings are via Goldmine scale and are Vinyl/Cover. These first several are in VG+ or better condition (good copies): Jermaine Jackson - Jermaine (Motown - M 752L) VG+/VG+ $3 Vinyl is VERY nice and is close to NM. The Hollies "Stay" VG+/VG $25 Original UK Stereo pressing! Sleeve is actually in very good condition for its age. Front is still shiny and not faded. The back has some yellowing due to age and previous owner wrote his name on the top left. https://www.discogs.com/Hollies-Stay/release/6428163 The Beach Boys - Close-Up (Capitol Records - SWBB-253) 2xLP, VG+/VG $2 The Challengers - 25 Greatest Instrumental Hits (GNP Crescendo - GNPS 609) 2xLP, VG+/VG $6 Vinyl in excellent condition! Cover has slight ring wear but VG mostly just due to signs of age. Still in very nice condition. The Buckinghams - In One Ear And Gone Tomorrow (Columbia - CS 9703) VG+/VG+ $4 Cover still in shrink! Various - England's Greatest Hitmakers (London Records - PS 430) VG+/VG+ $4 Various - Cruisin' 1959 (Increase Records - INCM: 2004) VG+/VG $4 Front cover in great condition but back has yellowing. Top edge is mushed slightly. Pictures on discogs page are mine and of the actual item for sale. Various - Rock's Greatest Hits (Columbia - GP 11) VG+/G+ $2 Cover intact but I downgraded it due to shelf wear and yellowing and moisture staining on inside of gatefold. Kris Kristofferson - Spooky Lady's Sideshow (Monument - PZ 32914) VG+/NM $2 Still in shrink! These are what I'd call "player copies" and show some wear and some noise (some throughout some just in places as noted). Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies (Warner Bros. Records - BS 2685) VG (mostly. see notes)/VG $5 Most of the album is VG but there is a scratch that causes a skip for 5ish rotations about 50 seconds into the first song. The Beach Boys - Endless Summer (Capitol Records - SVBB-11307) 2xLP, VG/VG+ $5 Pretty strong VG, pushing VG+. Vinyl comes in Mofi sleeves. Outer sleeve included. Various Artists "Super Golden Hits" VG+/VG+ $6 1960's hits compilation album. Very cool "Laugh In" style cover. Cover in great condition but previous owner covered the painter girl's nipples on the front with round stickers. Not sure if it can be removed cleanly. https://www.discogs.com/Various-Super-Golden-Hits/release/3199406 The Spaniels ‎"Hits Of The Spaniels" VG/VG+ $2 with any other album Cover is bordering on near mint. Still in shrink. Vinyl is strong VG and might clean up to VG+. https://www.discogs.com/Spaniels-Hits-Of-The-Spaniels/release/2501338 Mötley Crüe - Too Fast For Love (Elektra - 60174-1 Y) F/VG+ $4 Album has large scratched area covering much of the 3rd song. Also has a warp that causes the arm to jump during large parts of the record. Included here in case anybody wants to try and flatten it or needs the cover. Bobbie Gentry - Ode To Billie Joe (Capitol Records, Capitol Records - ST-2830, ST 2830) VG/VG $3 Cool Oddball Stuff: Titanes En El Ring Con Vlady, Su Orquesta Y Coro* - Titanes En El Ring (RCA Victor GLS-80024) Panama VG/VG+ $15 Sleeve still in shrink but shrink is tearing in places. Sticker on back says "DISCOTECA PANAMA RADIO 62-1100 plaza 5 de mayo". Vinyl very stron VG but does have some noise which isn't too distracting. Rod McKuen - In Search Of Eros (Epic - BN 26370) VG+/VG+ $2 Album very quiet and in Excellent visual condition. Sleeve still in shrink and would be NM except for very slight ring wear. Anita Kerr, Rod McKuen / The San Sebastian Strings - The Sea (Warner Bros. - Seven Arts Records, Warner Bros. Records - WS 1670, 1670) VG+/VG $1 Cover still partially in shrink. 23. Hi all, I'm looking to get a copy of Bruce Harrison's music assembly source code. He said in an Art of Assembly article that the full source for his Nutcracker suite was available for purchase, did anyone get that and can share it here? The WHT Tech disk is NOT the source, it's only the binaries. Thanks!
  24. I'd like to pay homage to Red Dwarf and use the intro music (not the whole song, just a few seconds) for my game Space Fortress Omega. About 12 or 24 seconds of this: Here is a link to it being played by an orchestra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quTktctks30 Here is a link to some sheet music: https://musescore.com/user/154204/scores/2474021 I have not got RAM for a player (e.g. RMT) so I'm after the note values, durations and any audio settings, but even the notes would be a good start Thanks
  25. As most of you in this part of the forum know, there is a set of music routines by Arnauld Chevallier that can be used to playback tracker music. DZ-Jay has previously posted a How To-guide on how to manually put together your music data. Some have asked for a tool to simplify the process. While this is no one click solution, I have written a PHP script that will, assuming the input file is of the proper formatting, output something that almost will assemble. Get the PHP script here: mod2inty.php First, compose some music in a tracker of your choice. I am an Amiga user since the early 1990's, so for me the choice has always been OctaMED. However, you might find that other trackers like Protracker will work too. What you need is an option to print to file your music data. That means you can't take a .MOD file as it is, you need a text representation of the content of the file. Obviously when you compose, you need to think ahead as regarding to the Intellivision sound limitations. That means three channels, of which one (channel A) may be mixed with noise for drum effects. Most trackers will let you work with four channels, but the fourth channel is no good, unless you plan to manually mix two channels at a later stage. The printed file will contain some headers, like instrument table, volumes, playlist and so on. You need to edit that away with your favorite text editor. In my case, it means Emacs but YMMV. Save the playlist for later, because you will want to set the patterns in the right order. What you should have is a file like this: mmix.txt Now open a command prompt which has access to the PHP CLI executable. That is freely downloadable elsewhere, for various operating systems if you don't have it. For those who prefer other scripting languages, I leave it as an exercise to the user to convert the script. Use the command "php mod2inty.php printedfile.txt 4" in case your song has 4 tracks. As noted above, only the first three are used anyway so you can use a lower number. Note that all the output will appear on standard output so you might want to use > to capture it into a file. This script tries to handle the following: Split each track inside each block to a subpattern, with support for long (sustained) notes Handle the effect command "C00" to silence notes, insert rest Identify volume changes on actual played notes, not fade out while note is playing (MOD volumes = $00 - $3F) Identify arpeggio effect commands "0XX" and create matching pitch effects and instruments Identify identical subpatterns and omit duplicates Save the configuration of subpatterns for each block in the MOD What it doesn't do: Identify what should be drums, if those are used, since MOD's use drum samples at any position Identify the playlist order of patterns, this is what you need to fix afterwards Identify different instruments using the same arpeggio effects (i.e. those would all be converted to the same instrument) Handle a lot of other effect commands for slide, portamento, vibrato etc. Some of these are supported in the music routines, most aren't Obviously there may be awful bugs, and in particular if your input format doesn't match the example, results may be highly unpredictable. The output is a music file with instruments & envelopes stolen borrowed from Arnauld's demo song. You should of course edit those to your liking. However, the file won't assemble automatically because for every instrument imported from the MOD file, an X is added in front of the instrument number, and for every instrument automatically generated due to a pitch effect, a Z is added in front of the new instrument number. This is for your sanity, so you make sure to go through the output and make adjustments as required. Since X and Z only appear in front of the instrument numbers, those are easy to remove or replace with your text editor. Also remember to adjust the order of patterns. Hopefully someone will understand something of this, and perhaps even have use of it. Good luck!
