  1. About a year ago when I got my FAT PS2 I thought adding a Hard Drive should at least be simple. Except I am just as confused as I was when I started this mess. Yes I seen the video on how to add one. Which is why I decided to buy a Free Mc Boot instead. I did get the right kind of hard drive, and managed to do what everyone said had to be done in Windows, making it active and etc. Plugged it in to the Network Card and I used the MISC tools in Free McBoot to format it. My question is what is next? I don't even know how to add games, or why can't the PS2 transfer games save to it. Really I need some friendly advice.
  2. I know that the PlayStation 2. Plays pretty much all games for the PlayStation one except I believe seven individual titles,. and a couple titles don't work on the newer PlayStation twos but only on the older ones. I know one of the advertising pointing to the Playstation 2 was that you could go back and use your old games and accessories. For stuff like negcons, justifiers, gun cons you use those with PlayStation 1 games and certain compatible PS2 games when using a PlayStation 2 to play the disc. Same with multi taps PlayStation 2 multi-tap use the PS2 multi-tap will PS1 games on a PS2 use a PS1 multi-tap. Same with memory cards. even though PS2 memory cards could hold PS1 memory you have to transfer to PS one card to actually use it. the tricky part is that PlayStation 1 and 2 controllers I heard or both forwardly and backwardly compatible for most games. I heard there are quite a few games that work with a standard PS1 pad, and that the only games that required a DualShock 2 were games that had the analog button features. Anything with digital buttons but use but required the analog sticks could use a DualShock 1 ot dualshock 2. I guess the way the analog pads and buttons work when using digital is It's All or Nothing. Some games were perfectly fine with digital buttons and joystick other games it's a performance inhibitor and some are impossible. but I heard the reverse is true to that you could use DualShock 2 on any PlayStation 1 game, eithet on a real PlayStation 1, or Playstation 2 playing PlayStation 1 games. I remember the packages said PS1 / PS2 after the first year when they were consolidating because it was just too expensive to make both DualShock ones a DualShock twos, kind of like the exact reason why black and white TVs died in the 70s. I assume different games read buttons differently and joysticks differently. like some games will read the slightest touch of the analog button or stick and give you 100% pressure when converting to digital. Others just look at the grossest bit: is it pressed over halfway or no? Finally some games require full actuation to actuate a button. It depends on how the original game was coded. luckily any game that has trouble with analog sticks with DualShock ones set digital only mode. So basic questions if you have 8 DualShock 2... ... are there any games worth keeping DualShock ones and or original controllers for. That suffer on a PS2 playing a PS1 game or real PS1? ... Finally what is the most I'll need to keep? I need to know that so I'm popular local retro game parties.
  3. So my main PS3 now is a PS3 80GB "CECHE" model. I play a good amount of PS3 on it still, PS1, and PS2. I've heard two stories regarding this model: -It has half the PS2 chips, others are emulated -It uses 100% emulation to run PS2 games Now, a little research tells me: "North American CECHE 80GB model excludes the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip with it being replaced by an emulated version via the Cell Broadband Engine.[11] However, it retains the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU resulting in a hybrid hardware and software emulation.[16] Due to the elimination of the "Emotion Engine" and its replacement with a software-emulated version, the level of PlayStation 2 compatibility was slightly reduced." So it seems like the first is true, it's a mix of PS2 chips and emulation. I've thrown a lot of PS2 games at my CHECHE and never had any problems. Can anyone say they have, or seen a list of PS2 games that don't work on the CECHE model? Found this interesting as well: https://www.hardcoreware.net/playstation-3-80gbs-ps2-backwards-compatibility-sucks/ It's a crying shame the 60GB CECHA's weren't built to last. That would be a forever system for me if it worked. Keeping my fingers crossed the PS5 is fully backwards compatible as rumors have stated it may be.
  4. Gone! Thanks for playing~
  5. From the album: Games and Their Stories

Although I don't have the system anymore (Mom gave it away to a goodwill when I upgraded up to a 360), I still have the box. I remember how hyped I was getting this console for my birthday. I had it up until 2010, as I arrived kind of late to the 7th generation. I clocked in hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the system, and it never once had any issues. I don't really have the heart in me to throw it away, hopefully it's out there still kicking it!
  6. Heyo! The same company that did the HDMI for Xbox adapter (Pound Technology) is working on a PS1 / PS2 HDMI cable. For whatever reason, it's available for pre-order through Limited Run Games. (Not dogging on them, just seems an odd choice for this type of product.) https://limitedrungames.com/products/pound-technology-ps2-ps1-hdmi-cable Heavy Metal Jesus did a preview of it as well. What little I can see there, I'd gladly use this for a PS1 setup, but I would probably stick to component for PS2. Figured I'd share just in case you missed it during all the Mega Sg hype!
  7. Is there a specific model that is better than the others? In regards to dependability, A/V, etc. Are these all backward compatible with the PS1 games? Thanks, Roger
  8. I have a lot of games I'm trying to get rid of so I wanted to offer them here before they end up at the game store. I may entertain cash offers but mostly looking for trades at the moment. Maybe closer to the end of the week for cash. I have my wishlist along with the other stuff in the attached link. Feel free to offer any items that aren't specifically on my wishlist, especially NES/Famicom, SNES, and PS1 games and/or accessories. Action/platformers, puzzle, and horror games are good for me. Send me a PM with any offers, and please get your offers in by Friday around 12:00 noon EST. Edit: Continental US only please https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/134tHlI07W4mDp5KlxVfEpaE6t_-P4xLgUSyQTTnA5sc/edit?usp=sharing
  9. PS2 turns 20 next year, isn't that crazy? So when will the PS2 be joining us in classic gaming? Makes me feel old. lol
  10. I'd like to pick up some PlayStation games that I missed, but I'm slightly confused as to all the intricacies of backwards compatibility between the generations. I know PS1 games will play on a PS2, so I don't need a PS1. PS2 games will play on certain PS3s - but those command a hefty price premium? PS4s will play PS1 games (from disk? do you have to repurchase them?) - will they play PS2 or PS3 titles? So at a minimum, I need a backwards compatibile PS3 and a PS4 to access the full library, but it may be more cost effective to get a PS2 and a non-compat PS3? Is my knowledge out of date? I have a Trinitron in the basement so I can hook up a PS2 there if need be, but I'd like the keep the number of systems to a minimum.
  11. Gradius V ps2 box, manual for sale/trade Send me a pm if interested. Mostly looking to trade. Box up your rare game for your collection
  12. Good afternoon all, I have just picked up an old Phat PS2 PAL model. I am getting disc read errors on PS2 games, PS1 games and audio discs. I did briefly manage to get a PS2 game to load, but it eventually locked up on the title screen when left alone. I know the discs are all fine because I play them on another console that I have. I was just wondering what could be the cause of this and if its not too expensive I may attempt to repair/replace myself. Many thanks for your help!
  13. By "best" I don't mean most powerful (the current one would always win), nor do I mean the most technically advanced in its day (that would have to be the PS3). I'm talking about legacy, and sheer awesomeness. Consoles only please.

  15. Found all of this through Facebook a few days ago, all for $35 (the Wii wasn't mentioned in the ad, but it was in the bag). The PS2 (model number 79001) didn't have any cables, so I tested it with my own. Disk didn't spin at first, but that was because a piece of plastic broke off the lid, so it wasn't hitting the trigger. Fixed that and it works great. Haven't tried the Wii yet, but inside is an official 2 gb SD card. I'm going to clean them both up and remove the stickers. I'm probably going to sell them cheap, since they are duplicates. It's nice to find some Atari 2600 games, even common ones like these. I've always wanted Lost Luggage, heard it was fun!

  19. As the name would suggest, this is a thread to discuss anything about the PS2, one of my all time favourite consoles! Posts do not have to be explicitly about the PS2, but as long as it's relevant, you can post away. Game stories, reviews, collections... All of it welcome! Some of my first memories with the console was playing Need For Speed Underground 2. The game seems slightly dated due to the Fast and Furious neon and customisation, but it gave you so much freedom to make the car look however you wanted. Fun driving physics also. Very weighty for an arcade racer.

  23. Ten years ago, I had a decent understanding of emulators and what specs were required to run them. Times have changed and I haven't kept up with new technology very well. So, I'd like to ask for help from some of the current emulator users. I have some consoles I'd like to emulate and I have a few different computers availible, but I'm not sure if any of them can do everything I'm interested in. What I'll do is list the consoles I want to emulate, so you can get an idea of what I'm trying to accomplish. 2600 7800 NES SNES Genesis GBA TG16 PS1 PS2 I know that PS2 is the one that will require the most to run effectively, so if you have a suggestion on what emulator works the best for PS2 and if possible, a rundown of the minimum specs for it, that would be awesome. I have a desktop computer that I'm sure will run any of them, but I'd like to keep it more portable. So, I'm hoping one of my laptops will do the job. I also have a tablet, which I'd love to use, but it's very doubtful it has the muscle to do anything newer than the 16 bit consoles. I don't have the specs for everything availible right now, but If it will help, I can see what they are and post them tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any help. Edit: I just found the specs for what seems to be the most popular PS2 emulator and it's even beyond what my desktop computer could handle. Unless there is one out there that doesn't need as much as PCSx2, I'll just have to forget about emulating anything above PS1. I'd still like recommendations on what people think works the best for the other systems, on Windows and Android. Like I said, I haven't kept up with emulation in a long time, so I'm guessing a lot has changed. Also, I'm fairly new to Android, so I can use all the help I can get if I'm going to try and use my tablet for anything.
  24. The PS1 and PS2 are great systems that have a large pool of games spanning many different genres and styles, with a lot of developers experimenting with the content they release. This is why I wanted to make this thread to highlight some of the weirder, lesser-known, or discussion-worthy games available for the system, to help everyone bolster their collection, to start a discussion on the design of these games, or simply to share some awesome experiences! You can post any PS1/2 game here that you like, with the condition that the game is interesting and it is unique in some way. With that said, post away!
