  1. My collection. 30+ years in the making. Yes, these are dust proof, moisture proof tubs. Most systems are not new, but I like to keep them dust free. 82 systems counting the vintage original systems and the modern minis / classics. Not including the 20+ Plug and Play systems. You could get technical and say an Atari 1040 STE and a Mega STE are essentially the same thing, but for the system count's sake, I did not group them. I have not focused on handheld systems, but they have crept into the collection through awesome finds and trades. And, yes, my chair is lame. My father made the large toybox for my children when the first one was born, and I had it re-upolstered with Arcade Logo fabric when they got too old for a toybox. It houses all kinds of extra cables and connectivity items required to get various systems working with various monitors or TVs. For the monitors / TVs, I have a PS3 3D TV, a Dell MutiSync Monitor (for the Atari STs and Amiga), an Atari ST monochrome and an Atari ST color monitor, a 4K TV, a 215 pound Sony Trinitron WEGA TV and finally a Sharp curved CRT good for the light guns. I have a broken Emerson Arcadia 2001 and Microvision, so they are counted in the total. Next items that I'm still working to get: Playstation 5 Xbox Series X Philips CDi Emerson Arcadia 2001Gameboy Color Amstrad 6128 Sinclair ZX Spectrum I started my collection with unique vintage controllers and then modded controllers for various systems, then adapters or adapted controllers that allow just about any system to use any controller, then finally modded systems. Not all systems are modded, but the vast majority of them have something that has modernized them in a user and game-library friendly way. Most Unique is probably the Amiga 1200 in a PC case with modern cooling, USB ports, CD32 capabilty, and Flash Drives. Favorites: The 800XL was my first computer and bought earning $3.10 an hour in a Target warehouse, so I am attached to it. I still love the Super Nintendo's hand drawn sprite games.   2. Instead of working on the dozen or so projects that I have started, I decided the other day to delve into SecondBASIC programming for the Genesis. For those that don't know SecondBASIC http://www.sbasic.net/ is a BASIC language developed by Second Dimension. It is in active development and appears to be fairly robust. My biggest gripe is that there are virtually no programming examples for it. Commands are documented and a few code snippets come with the development environment but that's about it. I decided to help rectify this situation by writing a simple Snake game and commenting the hell out of it. The game uses the text functions only (i.e. no shape tiles) and has two very simple sounds. I've tested it with the Fusion 3.64 emulator and everything appears to work as intended. I can't seem to find my flash cart so if someone could test it on real hardware that would be much appreciated. While coding the game I did run into a couple of things. First, I did not see any mention of multi-dimensional arrays on the SecondBASIC site although they are supported. I did only test with 2 dimensional arrays, however. Second, I had to use another program to fix the checksum on the binary. Otherwise, fusion would throw up a checksum error whenever I tested the binary. I ended up using Fix Checksum https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/342/ to correct it. Third, at one point during coding I tried to do an animated spinner using the string: "\|/-" to no avail. Older guys will recognize this as a cursor used by many on the Apple II and C64. Not that big of a deal that it didn't work but I did find it a little odd. I believe the "\" is used by SecondBASIC to denote something, possibly "\n" for newline, etc. Even when I tried to build the string using chr$, it failed to work. Fourth, the ASCII codes don't quite lineup with the text screen that I'm using. I tried using codes: 016,017,030,031 (4 arrows) to do the spinner and one of them kept displaying as a heart. At that point I decided the hell with it and didn't look any further into it. Lastly, the binary generated by SecondBASIC is always named sbasic.bin no matter what your project file is named. You have to manually go to the work folder and rename it if you want to keep a copy. Otherwise, it will be overwritten at the next compile. Attached is the rom file and the basic listing. I'm sure there are things that can be improved along with using actual shape tiles for the visuals. This is just a simple example to hopefully encourage others to take a look at this programming option for the Sega Genesis. Feel free to tinker around with it and see what you can do. Controls are simple (up, down, left, right). Skill level can be chosen at the title screen by pressing left or right. It's a basic Snake game, eat the dot and avoid hitting the walls or yourself. Once you reach 100 points, obstacles will appear in the playfield to make things tougher. Have fun. Snake.bas snake.bin

  4. My Retro/Vintage Gaming Hobby I Am a Child from the Dawn of the Video Game Age Taking a side trip here away from my adventures here. Anyone who knows me personally, can attest that I am somewhat of a geek and so it’s no surprise that I became an mechanical/aerospace engineer by trade. With that stated, I always had an interest in building things and tinkering with electronics, etc.. As I was growing up in the 70's I was fortunate to experience and be able to participate in the dawn of a new era. It all started simple enough with my father coming back from a business trip in Texas one year with one of the first ever digital calculators. I was hooked. I loved the display, the tactile feel of the buttons and the ease of use. I was further inspired when I saw advanced calculators becoming available and even into my high school and college years where I always had to have the latest programmable calculators for my science, math and eventually engineering courses. Now this seems pretty minor in this day and age, but back then, looong before cell phones, home computers, high level object oriented programming languages, etc.. this was an exciting era for me. I've heard some good things about the Genesis's racing games library, and with my recent acquisition of my very own console, I was hoping that some of y'all could fill me in on some of the good racing games to try. I've currently got Super Monaco GP, and Hard Drivin' in my collection, I'm just curious as to what else I could add in the future. Sports games are a genre I haven't really dabbled in much, but from what I've heard, the Genesis is basically the go-to console for 90s sports games. Seriously, from what I can tell there were an ungodly amount of sports games released for it. With that said, what do you think the best ones are?

The video is some highlights from our playthrough, but watch the whole thing if you want. I really wish Gambit had a better jump...he would have been my main throughout the game. Oddly enough, when I talk about this game, not many people have an idea of what i'm talking about. The ability to play as Magneto blew my damn mind as a kid.   8. NOTE: PLEASE READ THIS FULLY SO THERE ISN'T ANY CONFUSION. I TRIED TO MAKE THIS AS USER FRIENDLY AS POSSIBLE. Intro This was a project that I had mostly completed a while ago, but decided to revisit recently to do one last revision. Thanks to @bluejay for being the one to show my 2nd revision to y'all a few months ago! Sonic 1 had a stellar soundtrack. One unique thing about the way it was made made was that, the OST's main composer, Masato Nakamura, used actual instruments and synthesizers for each song, and only after that would Sega's sound team rework each track to work on the Mega Drive's FM chip. These original recordings (as in the ones that were made before the music was reworked for the Genesis) are known as "Demo Tracks", and they were later released under the "Sonic The Hedgehog 1 & 2 Soundtrack" CD album by Dreams Come True. Here's what Green Hill Zone sounds like: Pretty sick, right? I remember thinking to myself: "It would be so cool if I could manage to get these songs to play in-game!". And by using an open-source Sega CD port of Sonic 1 from http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_1_for_SegaCD, I made my dream a reality by creating my own build that uses the Demo music from that album! Keep in mind, I've ripped all of the songs from that album myself via my own personal CD copy of it, so I can confirm that absolutely zero audio compression has been made to the music, and each song is in its original .WAV Redbook Audio quality! No MP3s or OGGs are used here. The only thing I did was extend the length of each song. The main Zone themes, the Special Stage theme, and the Boss themes have been extended to be 10 minutes long. This is because Redbook Audio has the fundamental flaw, in that, it can't seamlessly loop audio tracks after they end. My solution was to edit in my own seamless loops via Audacity, and have them play longer than the game's 10 minute level timer so you'd never hear the track end within normal play. This comes with the cost of the music taking up quite a bit of storage space. As for the music that the album didn't have such as the drowning theme and the power-up theme, I've used the drowning music from Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast, and a small clip from the instrumental version of You Can Do Anything from the Sonic CD Japanese OST. But anyway, with the introduction out of the way, lemme briefly talk about which version you are going to want to download depending on what you're using to play this. NOTE: USA BIOS IS REQUIRED! Emulation and EverDrive PRO/Mega SD A couple of things to note beforehand: - I've only been able to get this to work on Kega Fusion. As of right now, it does NOT work with Retroarch, but it may work with other standalone Emulators. (this is actually mentioned on the Sonic Retro page for the port) - For the Mega SD, you might need to rename the .WAV files to .BIN and update the cuesheet to have the WAV files instead listed as "BINARY". This is very easy to do, and you can use Google as a quick reference if you have trouble figuring it out. - The EverDrive PRO setup is the simplest. Just drag the folder onto your SD card and load it from there. As long as you have the USA Sega CD Bios located in the folder that the EverDrive expects, it should load without any issues as long as you at least have MEGAOS V4.01 installed or later. Sonic 1 - Sega CD Port FULL This build includes the full 10 minute songs. So if you're not using a burned CD-R with an actual Sega CD, this is the version to go with. However, this build is also considerably larger, being about 1 GB in size uncompressed. Which is obviously too big to fit on even the largest CD-Rs. If you wanna play this on a burned CD-R you need to use the version below: Burned CD-R On Actual SEGA CD Hardware This build was designed with 650 MB CD-Rs or higher in mind. As such, sacrifices needed to be made. All songs don't run as long, and will eventually fade out and restart. (you can find the length for each song in the README). With that said, I did my best to make the most out of the storage limitations; this version is 648 MB in size, just barely enough. So as long as your CD burning software doesn't add any extra data, it should fit just fine. Speaking of which, here's what you need to know if you're gonna use this version: - As listed earlier, both versions expect the USA Bios and won't boot otherwise. Meaning, this game won't launch unless you're using a USA Sega CD. Alternatively, if you have an EU or JP system, you can use a flashcart to Bios-swap. (check the manual of your flashcart beforehand to make sure it supports it). - You'll need to have a basic level of knowledge of how Sega CD game burning works. Be sure to check Youtube and/or the manual for your CD burning software to familiarize yourself with this. I can't really give a guide because the process on how to do this can vary depending on what software you're using. - You must use a CD-R, as CD-RWs will NOT work. - Be sure to set the writing speed to 2x in your CD burner software. Sonic 1 - Sega CD Port (burned CD version) Conclusion I think I've said all that I need to! If you're having any issues, feel free to describe your issue in this thread, and we can try troubleshooting. I or someone else will be willing to help you out. This project was a lot of fun to do, and it was very cool to see these songs finally being played in-game at their original quality. I hope everyone who sees this thread gets something out of it, and enjoys playing this as much as I enjoyed making it! Credits Don't forget to check these guys out!   12. I have searched and have not found a complete list of incompatible carts, I just assume Virtua Racing & maybe early titles like Star Control won't work... Does anyone have a full list? I know there is some variance with each of the Atgames sega releases, this is the 81 built in games 2017 model. I just picked this up last night cheap with my GF because we just moved and wanted some quick 2 player Mortal Kombat lolz... anyhow, ANY help would be most appreciated!

  15. At first I thought "This couldn't possibly be the same Pengo that I used to play on Atari consoles back in the day." Well IT IS. They added a story mode and some time limits but the gameplay is basically the same. Then I thought "Well this makes perfect sense. Sega made the game, Sega owns the IP, so they must have printed a whole bunch of copies since it was cheap and in-house." Well THEY DIDN'T.
  16. Have some genesis games I'm looking to sell. All are repros except for Golden Axe. MKII unlimited is in an original MKII cart and uses its original pcb. Truxton uses a sega cart and pcb as a donor as well. The labels for those are glossy and professionally printed. Golden Axe is original in original box and artwork. no manual Zero wing is a repro the whole way. It uses the now infamous European translation. The PCB is a high quality Muramasa with a rom chip, not a flash chip. The cart is clear and painted glossy silver on the inside for a gun metal type effect. But now its back again, and I have to be very worried about infections. So we are back to the chemo again, and hope that another miracle will occur. After a depressing vist with the Dr. it appears that choices of treatment , have become limited. I can either go to the hospital for a month where they would treat this with a very very aggressive chemo, or I can get a milder version , given as a shot for 5 days, every month. The choice is becoming clear, and it is Quality or Quantity. I have chosen the quality, and with that I am not sure where it will go. I will say that at least I have been given the option, which alot of people do not get.And after the second go around with the Chemo, I am holding my own.I cannot decide which is worse, a round of 15 shots or getting a bag hooked up for an hour at a time. Bottom line,with Barbs help, and the amazing drugs I soldier on. Again thank you to all who send us best wishes. Over the past few years we have had numerous requests for consoles and computers that we do make. The reason we do not make them is because we have not had the actual console/ computer to use for a template. Buyers say, well I can give you the dimensions or send a picture. The problem is that dimensions do not take into account all the curves, bends, protrusions etc that are common on these units. So, working from supplied dimensions almost never works. Barb and I are not as mobile as we used to be, so trying to find these computers/ game consoles is a crap shoot at best and a waste of time at worst. What we can offer is this.If you have a console/computer, preferably a parts shell unit, that your willing to send us, we will make a cover for it and send it back at no charge! Now, we are not interested in units that are so obscure that there might only be 100 in the world.   19. Some background info: The MegaKiosk DS-18 by Will Gentry has inspired me to build an Arcade Cabinet for my Sega Genesis. (Yes, a Flashcart would be less work, less money and offer more games but below is the route I wan to take.) MegaKiosk DS-18 The MegaKiosk DS-18 offers two features that I think make this project really cool. 1) You can cycle between 8 original game cartridges. 2) The hardware identifies the active slot with an LED. So (in theory) I can build an Arcade Cabinet with a button to cycle to the next game and I can have an EL Panel that lights up to match the currently selected game. This would operate just like a Neo Geo MVS 4-slot/6-slot. But my skill are very much in the realm of hobbyist. I've replaced capacitors, batteries and repaired my Neo Geo 4-slot EL Panel to give you an idea of what I can do. I started by building a control panel that will work with a Sega Genesis. It works great and by far the hardest part was the wood working. The two small red buttons are not in use yet. They are intended to be a Reset for the Genesis and Cycle to the next game on the MegaKiosk DS-18. I'm currently looking into what to buy for my 8 Mini Marquees. So far, I think this will work: A6 electro-luminescent panel with leads and connector ($10 USD each) https://glowhut.com/a6-electro-luminescent-panel-with-leads-and-connector/ I believe this inverter can power eight A6 sized EL Panels all at the same time. I asked Will Gentry how to tap into the LEDs that indicate the active slot. This was his answer: "You can simply remove the LED and solder some wires where the LED was to a new LED" Now for my Question: How should I run power to each EL Panel and how do they connect to the MegaKiosk DS-18 slot LEDs? The EL panels should only be getting power from the Inverter. I was thinking about wiring all the EL Panels to the Inverter such they all light up when the inverter it switched on. Then finding a way to break the circuit unless there is a signal coming from the MegaKiosk DS-18 active slot. What do you guys think? THANKS!
  20. Hi. I have 2 sega saturns that I got off ebay. Both were listed as non working/not tested. saturn A had a bad laser and saturn B had this other issue. Saturn B would read the games no problem and then load them (I tested it with a real copy of all star hockey) the sega license screen would show, then the SEGA sports logo would show, then it would stay black and the disk keeps spinning. I then took the laser (whole assembly) out from saturn B and put it into saturn A and it worked perfectly. I even flashed an action replay cart with pseudo saturn and saturn A was able to play all the burned games I threw at it (North american and international). When I put all the lasers back in their homes and tried to boot some of the burned games I had on the Saturn B with the pseudo saturn cart in it, only 2/12 games fully booted. Policenauts and Galactic Attack. I really dont think it is a laser issue because I tested out the laser and it works fine and then I bought two new lasers for them and installed them. Saturn A works flawlessly with the new laser but saturn B still does the same thing. it does read and boot games but stops after the sega licence screen. What else could be wrong with it. Maybe a crystal oscillator is not working, or is it in need of a recap? or maybe something else? Just for reference saturn A is a VA SD and saturn B is VA7 both ntsc north american Thank you for any help.
  21. With all the new Flashback consoles by AtGames why don't that make a Sega flashback ? Like a little mini Genesis / Mega Drive, If its about cost remodeling there firecore system they can cut cost by giving up the cartridge port. I would like to see a mini Genesis model 1 and I don't use my Firecore for cartridge games (well I do for that 10 in 1 game cart they made).
  22. Hi Guys, New here but long time stalker! I have recently been recapping and modding a couple of game gears with the genuine McWill LCD kit from retrosix.co.uk. Really happy with the results but one thing I cant work out is if it is possible somehow to control the backlight brightness level using the original wheel or some other method? I have seen it in action on a YouTube video I stumbled across using the original wheel and I would really like to implement it if possible because I find the default brightness to be a bit hard on the eyes (especially if laying in bed at night) and because it is on max brightness all the time I find it still runs the batteries down fairly fast. From what I can tell it would appear that maybe some clone units now have the ability to have adjustable brightness but not the genuine real McCoy McWill ? Does this sound correct? Does anyone know of a a clever way to add this in potentially? Pics of my install below. I currently have 5v connected to pin 1 of the brightness pot and ground to pin 3 as per the instructions on console5 but do not have the backlight or cysnc points connected as per the instructions as I am not using the VGA output. I assume the 5v and Ground to the pot are still necessary though? Currently the brightness wheel doesn't have any effect at all.

SNES Super Scope: Sega Menacer: Compared to these 8-bit offerings: Famicom Revolver: NES Gray Zapper: NES Orange Zapper: SMS Light Phaser: Atari XG-1: I mean, I can understand that in the 90s, video game and toy makers were pressured to make guns look unrealistic as possible, but come on, the Super Scope and Menacer just look absolutely ridiculous. Even later gen systems like the PS1 Namco Guncon look normal in comparison. What's worse, with all the modular detachable pieces that can get lost over the years, it's nearly impossible to find one complete.
