After experimenting for weeks I have found a way to get lag-free control on the 5200 digital games as well as a few of the Trakball titles with the X-arcade Tankstick and my custom Tron 80's Arcade Multicontroller (which includes a spinner). This is done with daisy-chained adapters/cables and all the components are currently in production, so it's possible for anyone to get this set up. In the presentation I show a number of 5200 games being played in ways you've not seen them played before on the 5200 including Pac-Man, Beamrider, Choplifter, Dreadnaught Factor, Meteorites, Star Trek, and Zone Ranger. This time I proudly present Dan Cage's (bfstats here on AtariAge) reproduction boxes for the black-box US releases from Sega: - Buck Rogers - Congo Bongo - Star Trek - Sub Hunt - Tac Scan - Thunderground They have the original design, shrinked down to the regular Atari 2600 box size for Dan's long-time project "THE WALL". He kindly has given me the ok to offer the designs along with my box creations. -

I created this episode on a request from my wife, a fellow Trekker. As a kid I only got to play this game a few times, in the arcade. I remember loving the vector graphics and just loving the game, period. I thought it was cool that they were able to simulate Mr. Spock's voice and I found the game play was fun and challenging. When it was ported to the Atari 2600 I remember being disappointed because it wasn't like the arcade. Of course I was only 8 and didn't understand that it was impossible to port vector graphics, but yet I played the heck out of it and still enjoy it and the other various ports to this day.

"Ugh ugh ugh...I hated Dr. Pulaski on Star Trek!"

Initial comment on Facebook by a friend: "Ugh ugh ugh...I hated Dr. Pulaski on Star Trek!" Comment 1 :Yeah. She did suck. Comment 2: She worked some nerves. Comment 3: She wasn't that bad. My Comment: You have to remember it in context. Gates McFadden was actually really flat as an actress the first season. Really they all were and trying to find their way. I remember Picard gave Beverly the prime directive speech in the turbo lift and it was like Beverly (or even Gates McFadden) was like "Ok, I'm outta here" So they bring in Dr. Pulaski who I remember actually had some character. First thing she did was clash with Data. They did a lot of things to make Next Gen work in second season: bring back the Romulans (because the Ferringi weren't cutting it), give Riker a beard to make him less of a Re-Kirk, get rid of Yar, bring in Guinan, and trade off the flat acting red head with someone with a bit more character. Oh, and make Wesley more respectable (and eventually get him off the show). I liked how Pulaski called Data an "It". Let's just be honest for a moment, the argument of an actual life form, and Data being one of them, was an argument throughout the whole series. As a Doctor of organic beings I could honestly see her view of Data as an "it". As an appliance since a human made him. And it made for a good story arc much akin to the Spock/McCoy debates, which I'm sure it is what they were going for. As it stood, it helped add some less perfect and more humanizing elements to the characters and she helped pull Next Gen out of the first season quagmire. Oh, and how she worked Picard's nerves to the point he would rather be on a shuttle craft for hours with Wesley than have Pulaski operate on him was classic! I love me some Dr. Pulaski and missed her when she was gone. -
On my Facebook page my profile picture was altered with the Star Trek 50th anniversary theme. I had all these four themes made into memes before that event passed. At the bottom of the pic it says “TO BOLDLY GO" https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153974375173651&set=a.426260258650.199598.513018650&type=3&permPage=1 On my profile pic someone left the comment: "Why havent they ever been to boldlygo hahaha” This is a good and valid point. Apparently other people on the internet are asking the same question: https://www.reddit.com/r/Showerthoughts/comments/3wk2qj/despite_years_of_travelling_the_universe_the_star/ This is why I hope in some Star Trek story, someday, the crew visits a planet named Boldlygo. If we can have a dwarf planet named MakeMake certainly we can have a planet Boldlygo. Just sayin’. And then they can go to Boldlygo… where no one has gone before. Greg

I picked up this cart and I didn't recall seeing it before, and I'm betting it is on every cart, but it's neat anyway. Kinda makes me want to put paper over it and scribble out the pattern. ian

k, so I was adding games to my video game list when i got to the Star Trek for 5200 i just purchased... the Atari Age scan for this cartridge (http://atariage.com/cart_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=665) shows the "end label" as being the part where it says the title & 004-02... but my "end label" aka the top of the cartridge is the part where it says "For The Atari 5200 game system" over the red bar. so, I guess my label is upside down, even though it looks like it's normal because when you insert the cart into the system, the picture/label is front-facing and upright, you know, like a normal label/picture should be... so... is the Atari Age scan the upside down one, or is mine? and I guess I shouldn't even bother asking if this makes it more rare or not... lol, I had the same issue with my copy of Miner 2049er having an upside down end label and I made a thread about it. anyone else have an upside down Star Trek label? / know if this is a common error?

I was watching Wrath of Khan the other day for the fist time in a long time. I assume trekies on here have notice this already, but there was a scene where bones was visiting Kirk in his apartment. There was a discussion of Kirks love for antiques. You can clearly see a commodore pet running in the background. After doing a quick google on the subject I read there was also a C64 sitting on a table that I missed. Since I love thinking about nerdy hypotheticals it made me wonder could that be my C64 that he owns in the year 2285. Also does Atari age still exist in 2285. If so I have to assume Kirk is a member. Yea I know its stupid but its fun to think about....... Also it reminded me that in Back to the Future 2 there was a first gen Mac, Jaws game, and Burgertime in the window of the antique store where Marty bought the Greys Sports Almanac. Not to mention Wild Gunman in the cafe 80's ("you have to use your hands! its like a kids toy" perhaps a prediction of the Xbox kinect?) . It's funny to me that they took these pieces of technology that were cutting edge for the time and portrayed them as antiques, and here we are collecting them as such. If only they were also correct about hover boards!!

For all those of you who played Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator for ColecoVision, is it true that when you pause the game, there is music in the background? If yes, then is it the same theme you hear when you lose the game "SIMULATION COMPLETE"? Thank you, Ben

Do you folks believe that Coleco could have released an Adam Super Game DDP version of Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator? I personally think so, for after you get Game Over in the form of "SIMULATION COMPLETED," there would be a high score screen that plays the whole Star Trek (The Original Series) theme song (by Alexander Courage), rather than just the final strains of said theme song from the cartridge version. I know Coleco did release both cartridge and DDP versions of another Sega arcade game, Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom, and Zaxxon. ~Ben -
