  1. Saw this video recently and just thought I would share as the Model II was a pretty interesting computer for its time but just not a winner.

  3. Greetings, community! I have a full CoCo 3 system, including the Tandy DMP-107 dot-matrix printer. Some time ago, the printhead was damaged and the printer is useless, even though the auto test works fine moving the printhead and trying to print, but nothing. Does anyone knows where to find a replacement for the printhead? Original or compatible, I'm not picky I tried several websites and they have other models, but not the DMP-107, it was a little basic dot-matrix printer, perfect for the CoCo. I really want to have my whole system back online. The CoCo, the floppy drive, even the mouse and the joysticks work fine, and I have some software, original and from The Rainbow magazine, that requires printer. I will appreciate some help! Thanks! Alberto.

  8. Hi everyone, I have been playing with a new purchase of an Tandy MC-10 PAL, I have the machine working and the 16K RAM pack, but wanted to get the VDG working with the higher resolutions modes, this requires you adding more memory internally. As I could not find anything on the web about doing this to the PAL version, I took the NTSC and and copied that. Now the only thing I can't find is were you need to change the VA12 line to line VA13 to allow the BASIC to see the extra 4K I have added. You will recall the Tandy had to make a mod to stop the BASIC from seeing more memory then was fitted, as it did not decode the address lines fully. But it looks as if on the PAL versions the MOD has been added to the motherboard. I have not been able to find a schematic for the PAL version or been able to trace were it might be on the motherboard. Any help would be gratefully accepted. Pictures of before and after MOD:
  9. I have acquired from eBay an Old OS for the Model 3 from cosmopolitan electronics that brought you Multidos; ZDOS v1.0 MODEL III - downloadable link to DMK/HFE and scanned manual: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jfyvhW9P9wdPtVnp_adwqUeykLs_aqVf/view?usp=sharing
  10. Poor Man’s TPDD I previously started this as a post on the "TRS-80 Model 100/102/200, NEC 8201A/8300, Kyocera KC-85" Facebook page. I've decided to upload the instructions as single PDF file on this forum as it is a better platform to share this information and files. Note: There is at least one other example of this on the net. However, I found it after I made my prototype. Being retired and on a strict hobby budget, I decided that it would be great to have Portable Disk Drive to go with my TRS-80 Model 100. Unfortunately, most solutions were way over my current budget of zero dollars ($0.00). I rummaged through my inventory of items on hand and created a modern drive using a $10 Raspberry Pi Zero W (a gift) , a very old USB Serial Cable (thrift store), a “lipstick” style phone USB/recharge battery (another gift) , and a few other small items. Since, I already owned everything; I figured that a “headless” Pi should work. I set up the Pi using a fresh Raspberry Pi OS (no desktop). After enabling SSH, I created a share (TPDD) and passed over mComm (python version) from Kurt McCullum’s Club 100 Member Upload Library. I was able to easily get it running on the on the Pi using a TPDD shared folder. I added a switch to shut down the Pi when I didn’t need it. Next, I plugged in the USB Serial Cable and battery. It worked! mComm automatically starts when the Pi is turned on. I pass the M100 files to my Pi through the shared directory on my PC. The Pi’s microSD card will hold almost all the Model 100 files in the known universe. This works better than I could have imagined and meets my current budget of nearly 0(zero) dollars. I am compiling I've compiled the steps needed to set this up and will post them if there is an interest? If you don’t have the materials, this should set you back around $50 or less. (Note: I am not selling this item. I hope others may enjoy it as much as I have! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attachments: The build guide: PoorMansTPDD.pdf Also: A ready to use collection of Club100 files (public domain files in the correct format for "mComm") for folks to test. 13. Finally picked up a FreHD for my Model III and it's definitely a slick piece of hardware. Right off it needed a case and the generic Chinese wall-wart needed to go. Decided I wanted something that would look period correct for a TRS-80. Set the Wayback machine to 1973 and picked up this nice case from Radio Shack. Used a cutting wheel on a Dremel for the SD slot and then finished with a file. The Read/Write/Power LED holes were done with a Whitney Punch and the holes covered from behind with a white translucent tape for a finished look. Also put a divider between the board LEDs so there's no light bleed between them. Added a nice Mean Well power supply and switched the line voltage so the power supply is dead when turned off...also used a grounded line cord. Really happy with how everything fit up just right. The face is pretty much a dead on match for the battleship grey and the black sides match the disk drives and keyboard. Originally I put in a blue LED for the power indicator but realized blue LEDs didn't exist until around 1990, so I put in a red one. And yes...you need a key to fire it up!

  21. Hi! My name is Greg. New to the forum. Finally getting around to posting on here. I have been collecting retro computers and consoles for a number of years now, but have yet to really participate in forums. Currently I own an Amiga 600, TI 99/4A, Atari 800XL, and now new to the stable is a Tandy 1000 EX. It was obtained second hand for $5. I spent this afternoon taking the machine apart and cleaning; as well as inspecting the hardware. The computer is all clean now and boots to a prompt for a bootable discs. Herein lies the issue... I have no discs! I don't really have a way of imaging discs for 5.25 drives at this time unfortunately. After some research, I found that I will require MS-DOS 2.11 to be able to boot this machine to run software. Here are my questions. 1. Does anyone have a copy of MS-DOS 2.11 or has the means to copy a disc for me that could be mailed? 2. What is the easiest way to image these discs nowadays? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. If you can send me a copy that would be great. I would paypal for the copy of the disc and to cover shipping.
  22. I have a Tandy 1000 TL/2 computer that I acquired recently. I had to replace the hard drive and a floppy drive. I formatted the hard drive and have successfully transferred files over to it from some disk. However, I can not load any games from the hard drive. These same games will load just fine when running from the floppy itself. The weird thing is is that small utility programs, such as setuptl2 will run just fine from the hard drive. But with every game I have tried so far it will skip to the next line in the command prompt like its going to load but just freeze there. I've let it be for nearly 30 minutes once trying to load SImCIty. Any idea what might be causing this?
