Hi - I can't boot this TT030 to see the TOS version on-screen as it is stored elsewhere. Based on the TOS labels picture it looks like it has TOS 3.06 based which is cool. Q1 - Is 3.0.6 the latest official TOS release for the TT030? Q2 - Over on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_TOS it mentions TOS 4.x Is 4.x only for the Falcon030 or could it be used on the TT030? I just burned a pair of 27C040 EPROMs with four TOSes and installed them in my 1040STe. I have pins 30 and 31 (A17 and A18) tied to 5v each through a 10K resistor. These pins are also each connected a SPST switch that grounds the address line when flipped up. For some reason, only the last TOS is working - Petar Putniks v1.62i. The other three just sit at a white screen forever at power up or a garbage screen if reset. I'd put the files up for someone to check, but I don't want to post PP's custom TOS online. @ParanoidLittleMan I used PP's ROMSPLI2.PRG on my ST to split each of the TOS images into a HI and LO file. Then I used Windows COPY /B command to merge the four LO files together, ditto for the HI files... ie: copy /b TOS162.LO + TOS206.LO x.LO copy /b x.LO + EMUTOS.LO y.LO copy /b y.LO + PPTOS.LO z.LO ..ditto for the .HI files. Both came out to an even 512KB. EPROMS did burn and verify without issue. I verified that the IMG files worked in the HATARI emulator before I split them. Wiring is clean. No shorts or opens. Pins 30 and 31 are out of the socket and not touching anything else besides the wiring attached to them. What could I be doing wrong?

Hi guys, I'm a newbie on the atari scene and recently ive bought my first atari st, its a 520ste. But after powering it up ive noticied that the TOS is in french. How and where can i change the default language? Thanks in advance ;)

Hi, some of the Atari ST fans are also 8-Bit fans (and vice versa) and may already know, that I make some little projects to enhance the capatibilities of the Atari 8-Bit family. Some time ago I´ve decided to do the next step and make some stuff for the Atari ST series, too. Find some infos here. DUAL-TOS Card for Atari ST computers (TOS 1.0x / 2.0x) This expansion can be installed in all Atari ST (except 1040 ST with CPU under the disk drive) and the Mega ST. It enables the usage of any TOS 1.0x version and TOS 2.05 or 2.06. No need to dril holes for switches, just use the existing RESET pushbutton. Eraseable EPROM included, if wanted, preprogrammed with the TOS versions and language of your choice. --- DUAL-TOS Card with Mega ST compatible RTC for Atari ST computers (TOS 1.0x / 2.0x) This expansion can be installed in all Atari ST - except 1040 ST with CPU under the disk drive. For this special version of the 1040 ST a seperate version will offered in the next 3-4 months. The DUAL-TOS Card enables the usage of any TOS 1.0x version and TOS 2.05 or 2.06. No need to dril holes for switches, just use the existing RESET pushbutton. Eraseable EPROM included, if wanted, preprogrammed with the TOS versions and language of your choice. This version has also the Ricoh RTC chip onboard, which is fully compatible to the Mega ST RTC. You don´t need special software, all TOS versions from 1.02 up to 2.06 supports this RTC. Just use the Control Panel to set the clock. --- DUAL-TOS Card with Mega ST compatible RTC for the Atari 1040 STE computer (TOS 1.06 / 1.62 / 2.0x) This expansion is specially made for the Atari 1040 STE only. It´s the first (known to me) expansion which enables a Mega ST compatible RTC for the 1040 STE. Also it enables the usage of two TOS versions which are able to run on an Atari 1040 STE (TOS 1.06, 1.62 and the 2.0x). No need to dril holes for switches, just use the existing RESET pushbutton. One-Time-Programmable PROM included, if wanted, preprogrammed with the TOS versions and language of your choice. You don´t need special software, all TOS versions running on the 1040 STE supports this RTC. Just use the Control Panel to set the clock. --- HD Module for 1.44 HD disk drive for all Atari STs and the 1040 STE This is one of the smallest PCBs with fully automated HD features for the ST series. It supports two drives with different setups (HD/HD, DD/HD, HD/DD, DD/DD), generates automatically the 3 ms step rate pulse and corrects the media change detection problem with standard PC disk drives. It has it´s own clock onboard, so no disturbation to the weak 16 MHz signal from the Shifter occours. You need a HD compatible disk drive which mostly must modified to work with an Atari ST (drive must be set to DS0 and HD-output on pin 2). --- 4 MByte Memory Expansion for all Atari ST and the Mega ST This PCB enables to expand your ST´s memory to 4 MByte. It can be installed in all Atari 260/520/1040 ST/STF/STM/STFM and the Mega ST series. I’m giving a 1040 STE Some TLC. 1) What version of TOS do I have (pictures) and what’s the best version to upgrade to? A version that handles years 2000+ would be nice. 2) She has only 1MB (pictures) where are good sources to purchase 4MB (4x 1M Simms)? And what specs/speeds are best? I had a 1040ST in the late 80's early 90's. I purchased a very good 1040STfm and SC1224 (color monitor) on eBay, all seems to be working great. So I have a couple basic questions as I get to know the ST again :-) Thanks in advance. Please see the attached picture: 0) Where can I find good FAQ details about the ST line? 1) What version of TOS do I have? How do you tell? 2) Are these two socketed chips my TOS? 3) I see the Gotek drive replacement option. Is there an option that does not require any case cutting? 4) Is there an external (2nd drive) option for Gotek? 5) See image of my current floppy. Can you upgrade to a 1.44MB drive? If so, what version of TOS would support this? 6) Is there a TOS that can handle Y2K (dates with years like 2019)? 7) Is there a real-time clock (RTC) add-on? 8 - Best source for new TOS?

Reading joystick, keyboard via TOS in simple way This is certainly part for which TOS documentation is not well done, some necessary details just missing from avalable Atari DOCs. So, there is XBIOS 34 function Kbdvbase, which will return in d0 address of structure: long midivec long vkbderr long wmiderr long statvec long mousevec long clockvec long joyvec * pos 24 long midisys long ikbdsys Those ending with 'vec' are vector addresses, and SW can put there own rutine to transfer current status of those input devices. Atari DOC s(and Atari ProfiBuch auch, pardon too) says only this: "Address of packets will be in a0 and on stack too. Rutine must end with rts, and last not longer than 1 mS." And that's just not enough to use it. Despite that it is really simple. So, here is working example: * Setting joystick monitoring rutine : move.w #34,-(sp) *Kbdvbase trap #14 addq.l #2,sp move.l d0,a1 lea 24(a1),a1 * Joystick vector move.l (a1),joymorg *Save original one (which is just an rts) - for restoring at PRG end move.l #moni,(a1) * put there address of own code to pick joystick state ******* moni * Joystick monitoring, very simple: * it is at joyvec address set with XBIOS 34 addq.l #1,a0 *a0 is odd move.w (a0),joyc * first byte is for joy 0, second for joy 1 rts It activates every time when some joystick action is performed. And during ACIA interrupt - that's why must be fast. SW can now simply read when want values at variable joyc . Of course, it can be done different - so, for instance that joystick interrupt initiates something immediately. But normal usage is just reading joyc periodically. Bits for joystick status: 7 - fire, 0 - down, 1 - up, 2 - left , 3 - right Active when bit is set.

I was talking about pulling out some of my old disks on the Atari Museum on Facebook, when I mentioned a program I found years ago called 'TOS'. Basically, it was a simple graphic user interface for the 8-bit computers that allowed the joystick to be used to do some simple functions. I don't have a working 8-bit compatible mouse or trackball to see if it works smoother with those. I'm not sure where I got it or who wrote it. There's not much info in the program itself. Under Desk: Basic, Boot, Info (TOS, v1.0, for public domain, © 1985) Under File: erase, protect, unprotect, rename, format SD, format DD Under view: Directory on screen, directory on window Under Options: Request on, request off If anyone has any information where this came from, please let me know. By the way, the attached screenshot is from within an emulator running as a 130XE, but it originally was running on my stock 800XL using DOS 2.5, a stock 1050 and a standard joystick. I haven't tested it with any other DOS versions, drives or machines. I've attached an ATR file with just the TOS program on it if anyone want to try it. It does require you to load DOS first, but apparently will work with or without BASIC. My original disk had other... er... unlicensed software on it. TOS.ATR

Just curious. Anyone using EmuTOS on EPROM on real hardware? Sounds like quite a project. I watched some videos of it in action on YouTube. The only concern I could see was that DRI's GEM icons are not exactly attractive compared to the Atari's versions we're all familiar with.

Hi all, I'm trying to upgrade the TOS on my 520STFM from 1.02 to Rainbow TOS (1.06). The chip vendor is understandably a little vague on how to do it, is there HOWTOs available on how to do it? It appears there are 6 chip (28 pin) versions of TOS 1.06, so should it be a case of a straight swap, or do I have to mod it for 2 chip? Many thanks

I've noticed that there's some memory and TOS upgrades floating aroud for the STE. I was thinking of putting some extra SIMMs in mine, but when I had a look inside the machine I found that it had slots for SIPPs rather than SIMMs. I'm presuming that the two types are not interchangeable as they're physically different - unless there's some kind of adaptor that I can use to fit SIMMs to SIPPs? (If so, that would be quite helpful as the only memory upgrades I can find use SIMMs!) Still on the subject of upgrades - is there any reason to upgrade to TOS 2.06 (which I've also seen on sale)? Of the sites that I've looked at, some mention compatibility problems with software written for earlier TOS - so do you think this makes the upgrade more trouble than it's worth? The other option, I guess, is to leave the TOS currently in the machine as it is and find a TOS 2.06 emulator for my PC instead.
