  1. Hi folks! I have an old Atari 800 computer with a 1050 Disk Drive and haven't messed with them in years. I recently set things up and the computer comes on just fine...cartridges boot just fine and games can be played as usual...without cartridges, Memo Pad comes up as expected. When I hook up the 1050, put in a disk of any kind, DOS, blank, bootable files, I get the same result...computer drops into Memo Pad and no disk access occurs (without cartridges), or pops into BASIC with that cartridge installed, but, again, no disk access of any kind occurs. If I have the "READY" prompt in BASIC, and type "DOS" it drops into Memo Pad. If I type a LOAD command with the correct syntax, I get an ERROR 130. What do you suppose is the problem? I have 3 different i/o cables and the results are the same with all three. Do I have a bad circuit board? Keyboard works, sounds and graphics all work. I am puzzled. Thanks in advance for the help!
  2. I have a fully working Happy1050 Disk drive for sale, complete with 9V power supply. The case is clean with absolutely minimal yellowing - photos available on request. The 'Happy' upgrade allows the 1050 to write disks at true double-density, gives a much higher SIO transfer rate and various other imaging and backup features. The 5.25" floppy containing the Happy diagnostic and copying software will be provided. I am asking either a flat £65 or alternately an direct swap for a working "Ultimate1MB". Given how bulky the 1050 and power adapter are I can only offer this to a buyer within the UK. I am expecting the postage to be around £10 for basic ParcelForce delivery and somewhat more if insurance is required.
  3. I recently purchased an Atari 400 computer, a handful of games for it, and a book on learning Atari BASIC. Now as I begin learning BASIC I could really use a way to save my programs and play disk based software, so I'm in the market for a 1050 disk drive that is in good cosmetic condition and proper working order with the power supply included. I'm looking to spend around $85 shipped on the disk drive and it doesn't need to have any custom modifications like Happy or anything like that, a plain old standard slow speed drive will do just fine for my needs. I'd also be interested in purchasing a 48K memory upgrade for my Atari 400 at some point, though acquiring a 1050 disk drive and some blank 5.25" floppy disks to use with it is my first priority. Thanks for taking the time to view my ad and if you happen to have a working 1050 disk drive in nice condition that you'd like to sell then feel free to shoot me a PM about it!
  4. So i've really been enjoying my 1050 DD. I did notice that it's just a little more finicky then carts as far as reliability goes, and though it's amazing how many of them work (considering their age) I have received a few bad disks in the mail recently. Last night I heard some squealing and squelching noises coming from the device and had a "boot error" on the screen. My concern is that one of the rings thats glued to the inside of the data disk (pictured) may have come off in there and is gumming up the works. Luckily when I heard these noises I shut it off and was subsequently able to load all disks. I guess my questions are: -What is good regular maintenance to do on these devices (I.e. should I blow a duster into it, or take it apart and clean it regularly?) -What is the preferred resting state of the device for longevity? (Should I leave it empty, a disk in, a disk in and closed?) -If the glue has dried up on those center rings, best to re-glue or just take them off. Or should I consider the disk dead and not risk putting it in the machine in any condition? -Other thoughts? I already make sure to only play my Atari Discs on that side, not flipping to any other side in fear of the disc spinning the other way and particles coming off. Easy enough to do since why would I play the Commodore 64 side on an atari? Thanks!
