Well hello my fellow Atarians. If you're like me you still use the old Atari (either real thing or emulated), but you also use a modern computer like a Windows PC, Linux PC, or Mac. In that case you probably have cause to use text files from one system on the other and visa versa. As some of you know, I developed a program for the A8 to do converting called AAC. You can get info on that over in it's own topic. This new topic is about a different program with the same name that does the same job, but runs natively on the new machines. It is written in Python so has the ability to be cross platform. So here is AAC v0.1, 32-bit Windows, for your testing pleasure. It works fine as expected in every case I have tested so far, but I like to get feedback from others too. Once any bugs (if any) are ironed out. It will get it's v1.0 release. If you need a Linux version to test let me know.

Hello everyone , I now have had for over a month a fully working copy of my BBS Screen Creator with ATASCII screens being fully implemented, of course on the PC they will look weird , unless you are using syncterm with ATASCII turned on ..... I am working hard on the program to make it so you can convert between ASCII ,ATASCII, @BBS codes both Wildcat and PC Board, and Mystic and Synchronet screens. When I am all done ytou will be able to run a stanmd alone program to convert between any formats , and an online program that does the same but allows you to download the screens that you have created. Atascii and ASCII 40 column screens are coming to Christ Followers BBS , with a special login section that asks you what translation you want, probably a first for Wildcat or Winserver , should be al the way coded in a week Finally if anyone knows how to squeeze 48 hours of work into 12 hours, let me know, hahahahaaha. Russ PS: I have got someone looking at the IDE Kits for the Portfolio, now that the pandemic is a little lifted in restrictions there should be time to solve the problems in writing to hard drive, either there is faulty wiring in the Parallel interface or the prototype. And PPS: I now have a custom Serial port and Wifi adapter for the Atari Portfolio, compliments Petr Kracik from Chec Republic, now to design and 3D print a case for the two boards. Catch ya all on the flippy side.

Before I start with the breakthrough, I deeply want to thank 3 big users of the community: Bill Lange, Mark L. Simonson and Prof. Mark Grebe. Today, we have a game changer for all and easy to use. It all started when Bill send me a printout with all special fonts from our beloved Atari. At this time, it was a little complicated, at least for me. Meanwhile, in over years, I even did not manage to upload this to the Wiki. Shame on me. ? Besides this, Mark L. Simonson developed the Atari Font for modern computers: https://atariwiki.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=Atari True Type Font for PC and Mac No general assembly of ABBUC without his font, you know, we couldn't read anything... He further developed the font with the German special letters, too. WOW, like flashdance, what a feeling. ? Combined with these both, I asked Prof. Grebe, whether they may be a chance to insert this into a printout for our beloved Mac emulator? Guess what? He did it! Ladies and Gentlemen, we now have the chance to preserve the source codes 1:1 with all special Atari characters!!! :-))) That is so incredible! :-))) Therefore from all five continents: all soooooo much!!!!! :-))) So, how is this done? First, please download the new Atari800MacX 5.2.0 Alpha 1.app: Atari800MacX 5.2.0 Alpha 1.app.zip It is now in Alpha 1 status, but working fine yet and doing it's job for source code preservation. Please see the results below. When the program is up, choose: from the control panel. Once done, load in any source code you want to print out. I have taken for example SCRAM. First, I loaded in the LOADER program from BASIC: LOAD"D:SC*.* Then I typed in the command: LIST"P:". After a short wait, I choose the button: "Preview" form the control panel and the emulator switched to: Here, please press the marked button with the red arrow. You can save the result into a pdf file. ? Doing the same again with the main program in the largest version available results in: Scram 24K Source Code.pdf So, you can see, time to: One last beg from me, please don't contact Prof. Grebe, he is working very hard on the release version. I am sure, we can find the answers here in the forum. May you all have a great sunday and the force with you, always. ? Scram 24K-Version (english) (Basic).atr

Hi everyone! How can I transform ALL ATASCII codes including 128-255 into screen codes in mode 1 (20x24 5 color text mode)? I am having a hard time with the ones above 127. Subtracting 128 and applying the same rules as 0-127 does not work. For the ones below 128 I have used: if(screen_code<128) { if(image->_imageData<32) { screen_code+=32; } else if(image->_imageData<96) { screen_code-=32; } } but doing the same (after subtracting 128) does not work. I need to get the write screen code with the RIGHT COLOR. Fabrizio

Does anyone have the G: Handler? IIRC, You could LIST"G:" to print ATASCII on an Epson printer. I really need to print some ATASCII files I have so I can make them as consistent as possible. COPY MAINMENU.ATA, G: should also work as well. I had this BITD, does anyone remember this? Basically, I want to print all my BBS menus, etc. so I have a reference when editing them. I want to make this look nice. I definitely remember the G: handler. I just hope someone else does as well (that has the file).

Hi everyone. I've been working on a project I'm calling AtasciiTube. It's a HTML5/JS app to play for ATASCII animations. I'm still refining the code, but it's working pretty well so far. Check it out: http://breakintochat.com/collections/atascii. Also, I want to send out a plea to anyone who saved any ATASCII animations from years ago. I have found quite a few, but I know there have to more out there. If you were an 8-bit sysop or user back in the day, or maybe you dabbled in creating these animations yourself, please give me a holler! I'd love to add any animations you can send me.

Hi, New/old A8 basic coder here (haven't touched it in ~30y). Trying to remember how to use ML strings to redefine character sets... My most immediate problem is that I can't get certain characters on the screen. CHR$(127) does not output the right-facing triangle character. I need to get that in a string to redefine my character set but I'm forgetting how. The screenshot attached shows another person's program that contains said character in a string, but I don't know how it was done. I have access to Atari800MacX, Envision on a windows XP VM, and I'm open to other mac/win/a8 tools if there's an easy-peasy character set generator that outputs what I need. I also don't mind converting the values by hand into ATASCII but I figure there's easier ways My requirements are that the code be self-contained in the basic file and that it be as compact as possible, so I can't use external files to load the charset data, and I figure strings are better than data statements.

Does anybody know if there's a way for Paperclip to save files as ATASCII? I couldn't find anything in the manual about it, but I have a feeling it should be possible. I know AtariWriter can do it, but the reference for how to is pretty obscure in the manual, so that's why I think I might be missing something here with Paperclip. Thanks...

Recently I coded up a program to allow converting ASCII and ATASCII files. The program is command line driven and intended for use under SpartaDOS X (earlier versions may also work). I posted this program in the Sparta DOS 4.47 topic, but am moving it here to its own. I am hoping for testing and feedback. When the program is finally done to the level of performance I am happy with, hopefully it can be made part of the SDX Toolkit. But if not, anyone will be free to add it to their own tools collection as they see fit. So, download it and give it a try if you like. Keep the following program usage in mind because right now, very little user entry validation is performed. It is therefore important that you spell out your device:filename entries. AAC (ASCII ATASCII Converter) is designed to copy a source text file to a destination text file, doing a text translation in the process. Only the output format is specified. It will be assumed the input file will be the opposing type. For example, if an ASCII, (either DOS/Win or Unix) output translation is used, then the input file is assumed to be in ATASCII form. Usage: AAC <source> <dest> /[T|A|U|H] /T = convert to ATASCII /A = convert to ASCII (DOS/Win) /U = convert to ASCII (Unix) /H = this help summary Eg: X AAC.EXE D1:COOLINFO.ASC D2:COOLINFO.TXT /T If using COMEXE you can get by with this: AAC D1:COOLINFO.ASC D2:COOLINFO.TXT /T Download the program.

For quite a while now, I have been looking for a ROM of the ATASCII Animation program that was for the Atari 800, "Atari Toons". I used every search engine I know of, trying to find a ROM of it, and I have also been to a ton of ROM sites as well, but I can't seem to get ahold of one. I also can't find any physical copies of it on eBay or Amazon. Can someone help me out?
