  1. Since most of us Mac users like single clicky launch thingies, I thought it might be a good idea to have a single thread for macOS Altirra to make it easier to find all relevant information and files for each release. Altirra 2.8 Lets start with Peters original thread for a Wine bottled Altirra 2.8 (32 bit): http://atariage.com/forums/topic/256928-altirra-28-wine-port-for-macos-sierra/?hl=%2Baltirra+%2B2.9&do=findComment&comment=4081583 Altirra 3.0 Then move to the his Wine bottled Altirra 3.0 thread: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/278822-altirra-30-mac-wine-port/ I polluted that thread (my bad) with an update for 3.1, including all the instructions for what it took to get it both 3.0 and 3.1 running under macOS 10.14 Mojave. Instructions that were cobbled together from the threads: 1) Take Peters original 2.8 download (bottle) and extract it. 2) Move the "altirra.app" (from extraction) to Applications folder. I also renamed it to "Altirra" from "altirra". 3) Take the download from post #15 (in the 2.8 thread above) for MacOS >= 10.13, and extract it. 4) Open Applications folder, and choose "Show Package Contents" from the context menu (right click) of "Altirra". 5) Open folder where post #15 (2.8 thread) was extracted, and choose "Show Package Contents" from the context menu of "Altirra.app". 6) In both windows navigate to the Resources folder. 7) Copy the following files from the post #15 Altirra.app Resources folder into the Altirra.app Resources folder from Petes bottle: - File: Wine.bundle - Folder: wineprefix Close Finder windows. Launch Altirra, run through setup. You'll need to navigate to your ROMS and CARTs folders using the / folder and then the tree where its stored. Seems the Wine stuff doesn't respect any aliases. I zipped the 3.0 release Wine/Altirra Application (package) in a zip that can be extracted and run as is, without having to go through all those steps. Here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n8q30oexq5ymrju/Altirra30_Mojave.zip?dl=0 Altirra 3.1 I then updated the package for the 3.1 release by performing these steps: To get this, I took the 3.10 binaries from the Altirra site, and copied them to the folder "Altirra.app/Contents/Resources/wineprefix/drive_c/winebottler". Files: - Additions.atr - Altirra.chm - Copying - Altirra.exe - Altirra64.exe Just replacing the files still launched the 3.0 version. I did some additional thread digging and found that I also had to remove the following (one or more of these had cached data). Your install may vary in name: ~/Library/Application Support/Wine ~/Library/Application Support/Avery Lee_152528885525251 ~/Library/Application Support/com.altirra_15264834116685 (current bundle identifier) I then zipped the 3.1 release Wine/Altirra Application (package) in a zip file that can be extracted and run as is, without having to perform the additional steps. Here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xhsvfxs38y3z1vi/Altirra31_Mojave.zip?dl=0 Alternate location in 7z format with smaller size (thanks Roland). Remove the .txt after downloading. See post #12 for details on extraction: Altirra31_Mojave.7z.txt Status 2018.12.14: This was working fine before the 10.14.2 update. With 10.14.2, it still works but will generate a warning about application compatibility in a future macOS release. 2018.12.14: Updated the 3.1 zip after editing the package metadata. Altirra in macOS application title now shows as proper case. Package version info also shows as 3.1 instead of 3.0, and Avery is credited. 2018.12.20: Added 7z version of Altirra 3.1, served directly from AtariAge.
  2. Does anyone use The Newsroom by Springboard on Altirra? Attached are the .atr files that I have, but no matter what options I choose, I always end up with a message "insert the newsroom program disk ..." See attached screenshot. The .atr files that I have are also attached. The instructions for The Newsroom are available on Atarimania. Regards, Bill SpringboardTheNewsroomAtari.zip
  3. I was not sure who to address this question to Drac030 or Phaeron or where on the forum to post this question. When I type ? fre(0) in MultiBasic I get 13089 bytes free. I have High Memory addressing set to None (24-bit addressing). Also I do not see a setting for the amount of 24-bit addressable memory to allocate. Is it possible to get more free ram for MultiBasic?
  4. I have come across an interesting issue with Altirra and keyboard input. I mentioned this in passing within the Altirra release discussion, but thought it was worth a thread to itself. MyBIOS requires you to press Start+Select+Option simultaneously in order to enter its setup menu. These Atari keys are emulated by Altirra with F2, F3 and F4 respectively. So far so good. However it seems that my keyboard - and from what I have read most PC keyboards - will not register three key-presses at the same time. Judging from the appropriate section of the Atari "Self Test"; any combination of two from Start, Select or Option DOES register, but not all three. It is impossible therefore to enter the MyBIOS setup menu! Again. this seems to be a Windows/Hardware problem and not a shortcoming within Altirra. I was wondering if Avery or anyone else could suggest a solution?
  5. I am interested in pixel art and I am investigating different tools to produce it. Unfortunately I do not own a tablet. I discovered Atari programs using a tablet can be operated with a mouse in Altirra*. I have, however, a problem. I was testing with the Atari Artist ROM archived at atarimania (http://www.atarimania.com/utility-atari-400-800-xl-xe-atariartist_s13326.html) When capturing the mouse for Tablet emulation, it displays the high-res cursor displaced down and left from the XY position of the stylus. How do I fix this? ========= *I followed the following procedure: 1. Input > Input Mappings... 2. Click Add... call it "Mouse -> Atari Tablet" or similar 3. Highlight your new mapping, Click Edit... 4. Add Controller... , choose Tablet (Atari touch tablet), OK 5. Axis 1 -> Edit... , Source : Mouse Pos X (pad) 6. Axis 2 -> Edit... , Source : Mouse Pos Y (pad) 7. The Stylus button was a button on the pen. It draws when the stylus is DOWN, and toggles the tool screen when stylus is UP. I mapped the buttons on the pen & tablet as follows: Stylus button -> Mouse LMB Left tablet button -> Mouse X1B Right tablet button -> Mouse X2B Raise stylus -> Mouse RMB Press MMB to un-capture mouse from the emulation window.

  7. I wanted to move this over to a new thread, as it really doesn't relate directly to Altirra updates at this point. Here are the files I've posted in the Altirra thread so far, plus the NTSC (PAL to be posted later) ACO file, which is a "Swatch" file for Photoshop that contains the color palette data from the ACT file plus descriptive text for each entry. I've edited the descriptive text to be the Hex, Decimal, and Binary Atari equivalents -- which will appear as a tooltip as shown in the swatch image below. Some of you might be asking what's the use/point of these files compared to the regular 256 color palettes available as output from Altirra and included with some other emulators. The point is that most Atari graphics modes (read non-GTIA) are only going to have 128 of the 256 colors available for display. So if you index your non-GTIA artwork using a 256 color palette, your graphics editing program is most likely going to choose some colors that aren't possible for your selected Atari graphics mode. The palette images are just for use if you want to open them up in your selected program and use the eyedropper to select colors, rather than using swatches/palettes, and also as an additional reference. As noted in the Altirra thread, these files are all based on the "Default" Altirra palettes, with no manual adjustments. Atari 128 Colors - ACT (NTSC, PAL).zip
  8. 1) Is there a way to turn off the "PAUSED" display overlay when the you manually pause the emulator? When taking screen shots using an external application, the "PAUSED" message is in the way. Using the save frame makes the image smaller than I want. 2) Is there a way to emulate an Epson FX printer? I can get text and binary data to the printer window, but would like to have it go to emulated printer like Atari800MacX. Atari800MacX emulates the epson, and allows the collected output to be saved as a PDF. I saw another thread about this, but it was older. If not native, how can I route printer output to a file? Thanks Wade
  9. I was playing around in Altirra yesterday. I wanted to create a disk image with some Basic games on it that I wrote long ago, and had as .BAS files on my PC hard drive. I made a new .atr disk image, I wrote DOS files to it and then.....I went "hmmmmmm". Is there a way in Altirra to import a file into an .atr? If not is there some other utility out there that can do it??? And while on this topic, what options exist to turn atr files into real Atari disks? 15-20 years ago when I still had dial up service, I spent one weekend uploading files and game disk images to my PC to use with this "awesome new atari emulator thing" (I think it was the "rainbow" emulator). Of course now I have no more dial up, my PCs don't have modems anymore, everything is wifi or Ethernet. But I've downloaded a few atr's for the emulators through the years that I wouldn't mind having on my real 800XL. Any way to do that?
