  1. I've been playing around with REXPaint (A fork of Asciipaint) to find something to help with screen and graphics creation. As a start I've created some Aquarius font png's to drop into REXPaint: Download REXPaint and add the png's to the \data\fonts directory of the program and edit the _config.xt file to add the following lines: Still early day's yet, the default screen is bigger than on the Aquarius so may be possible to use it as a virtual map? I also need to have a look at exporting from REXPaint to make use of the data all help appreciated!
  2. Hello, Back in the early 1980s I was yearning for the computer component for the Intellivision. I didn't get any magazines and the Internet was not around then so I had no clue that it was scrapped and the ECS would take its place. My parents knew that I wanted to get the computer expansion for my INTV and during the Xmas of 81 (maybe)my parents got me a new 13 inch color TV. I had been using a 12 inch black and white that was dying Anyway, one of the reasons my parents picked this particular TV out for me was that it was made for Mattel Electronics Aquarius Computer. I was not sure what the Aquarius was and it didn't really matter because later that year I got my Atari 800 XL. I have checked the net and didn't see any info regarding the TV. The set itself doesn't indicate anything about Mattel but the box does. I found the box in my parents attic. I still have the TV, but it is buried in my garage. As of 10-15 years ago it still works. Attached are the pictures of the box depicting the Mattel stickers. Does anyone know anything about this? The unit was purchased at Kiddie City a toy store competitor to Toys R Us. It was owned by the Lionel corporation.
  3. Does any one know if the Aquarius mini-expander ports work with any other controller for example Intellivision controllers? jaybird3rd has mentioned the possibility of a miniexpander II so it would be interesting to know what the options are Barnie
  4. I'm trying to get my head around the compatibility of the Aquarius mini-expander soundchip, It's seems that it is the less common AY-8914 is this correct? If so how does this effect porting sound from another Z80 based system that might use an AY-8910 or AY-8912 are they functionally identical in regards to programming? Finally is it exact same chip in the Intellivision? Barnie
  5. I remebered where I had seen the link between Radofin & Add-On http://www.worldofsp...kly04800003.jpg Bottom left news item on this page states that Add-On was created as a venture between Radofin & Custom Cables International. In my early computer days I read Home Computer Weekly and I vaguely remember adverts for Aquarius games and news items
  6. I'm looking to resurrect some of my attempts at Aquarius programming and seeing a activity on the ZX81 recently there is some mileage in lowres pixel style games. Is anyone planning or working on anything at the present?
  7. From the album: Intymike´s collection

That´s my Mattel Electronics Aquarius collection. The computer is a PAL machine and seems to be from UK. But the power plug was changed to a continental version.

  9. Maniac is a 10 episode mini-series that premiered on Netflix on September 21st, 2018. Although seemingly set in modern times, the technology in the show has an interesting retro (and often dystopian) aesthetic as discussed here. Tonight I was watching Episode 9 and spotted an Aquarius Mini Expander and 4K Memory Cartridge! The image of the Mini Expander also has a second (unknown) cartridge and the tips of two controllers. A couple of pictures and a short clip are attached, and I'll include a little bit of additional information in spoiler text below. There seems to be another thread on AtariAge about Maniac, but I thought that it would be more fun to post this small detail in this forum. ManiacClip.mov
  10. Hi all, I've been hunting for Peter Goode's rare Aquarius Program Book (mentioned in this old thread) for almost a year, and I finally tracked down an eBay UK seller who was willing to ship it my way. I've now scanned the book and uploaded it to the Internet Archive (and attached it to this thread), so it is rare no longer. I haven't typed in any of the programs yet, so if you do, please share the results here. ========== Nathan metopal.com pre83.com Peter Goode - The Aquarius Program Book (1983).pdf
  11. Hello all, I have been very busy working on trades and just wanted to show off my recent acquisitions and thank a few people.
  12. All, Just wanted to share this link of someone at retrominute.com who made a 3D model of the Aquarius computer. Kind regards, Martin
  13. Hello, I recently found an Aquarius in one of my Totes in the basement, I have the system itself in the original Box complete as well as something called a Mini Expander also in box with a few games in box. Just wondering what the collectability is like for these, I seen a few eBay auctions going pretty high just for games and a system with no box? Do I have a gem here? Sorry im new to the forums unsure of how these things work. Thanks! - Rex
  14. I was wondering if anyone could point me at a good rez schematic, the only ones I've found so far are unreadable. -John-
  15. Just curious. Jaybird3rd is considering making a second version of his fabulous Aquaricart that will include games that require the memory module. These games will either need to be reworked in order to run without using a memory expansion, or people without the Mini-Expander and it's extra cartridge slot would be SOL.
  16. Hello, I have just acquired a Scart / Peritel Aquarius 1 computer and the computer does not display certain colours properly on my plasma TV. I do not think that the plasma TV is a problem as other Peritel consoles (including the Intellivision 1) run properly on it. I have been testing the machine with an Aquaricart as well as normal carts and most of the splash screens appear all dark. See picture 1. The only splash screen that displays properly is the one of ADD Treasure of Tarmin. Certain games function properly after the splash screen (e.g. Burger Time or Astrosmash). However, other games like Snafu or Chess do not display certain colours making it impossible to play the game (see picture 2). I wonder if someone has experienced similar problems. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Picture 1 Picture 2
  17. I was thumbing through an issue of Electronic Fun (July 1983) issue. Anyways, I got to an article titled "The Age of Aquarius" - pretty good read. On one of the pages it shows the Aquarius w/ the add-ons as well as software. One thing caught my eye - a boxed Lock 'n' Chase. Hmmmm... don't recall that one! Anybody else know about this one? Is there a proto floating around of this? Sorry, I don't have a scanner to scan the picture but the box does look cool!
  18. From the album: Aquarius Stuff

Found this "accidental" Aquarius T-shirt on Ebay.
  19. From the album: Intymike´s collection

That´s my 3. party Aquarius stuff. It includes 10 games on cassette, a Basic program book and the Aquaricart by jaybird3rd.

  20. Back in the days when I had my Aquarius, I bought a MSX gamebook with an adventure written in BASIC. The adventure was a text adventure with drawn images in the book as a graphical aid. I got the program working on the Aquarius with minimal modifications. Recently I came across this book and decided to write the program once more and to scan the images to a PDF file. The zip file at Google Drive (1Gb) contains a README (this text), a PDF with drawn images and a text file which can be loaded into the Virtual Aquarius emulator as a quick type textfile. The story: A long time ago, king Wohar I ruled the country of Longlifia together with his wife Grünhilde and his three sons Wakahl, Meihr, Clohar. When the king died the middlest son Meihr seized power and everything went downhill. The story of Longlifia became a sad tale of woe and misfortune, and a curse was casted. Bandits and monsters are now roaming the land. According to legend the spell can only be lifted when the trinity is reunited. Now, go traveler! Solve the mystery of Longlifia, lift the spell and bring back the peace and harmony. Please use this thread to share your adventures and to find help. Regs, Martin
  21. Would it be possible to create an interface to connect an Aquarius cartridge to USB? I was thinking about a simple Aquarius emulator which starts automatically when a cartridge is inserted, it would enhance the Aquarius experience Some kind of USB EPROM reader? Any ideas for a simple schematic? Regs, Martin
