  1. So, I see that there have been made lots of (seemingly) top notch homebrew games for the Atari 8-bit series the last 20 years or so. The AtariMax should provide extra power to run things (sorry for the general wording here, I’m not a natural born tech-geek) which the 5200 native wouldn’t be able to run. Must such 8-bit series games be ported/converted (as to format/file-type or other), to be used and run succesfully on the AtariMax Ultra, or is it enough to download, say a top-notch homebrew, un-zip it and put on the SD-card…? Any info concerning this, or eventually - if games must be made individually to work on the 5200 (+AtariMax Ultra) -, which games are ported/converted from 8-bit series to 5200 would be very welcome. [I guess it’s not impossible the question have come up before, but going through many of these threads can make for quite a long read, and some stuff are worded in insider-language. Links are welcome. Explaining of just listing in straightforward wording is particulary appreciated. Guess some here can pull the know-how from the top of their heads]. Thanks for any input folks! - - - Here is the video of top-games, that made me interested in whether or not these now can be played on the 5200 using the AtariMax Ultimate:
  2. Hello all, I bought a 1050 drive from a nearby vendor that knew nothing about the drive. When I took it apart to service it, the shielding was still in place, so I assumed it was a stock drive. Because my original 1050 had an ICD chip i wanted to find a way to bump this drive up to true double density and high speed I/O so I eventually bought a Happy board from Atarimax. A couple nights ago, I opened the unit to install the Happy board, and following the instructions, I removed the shielding, and that's when I saw the double-height chip with the letters "ICD" on top. So, now the question is, should I go ahead and install the Happy board and remove the ICD Doubler, or just leave the Doubler in place and move on? I suppose I could buy another 1050 unit and install the Happy board in that... I'm not really concerned about the other features of the Happy board, I'm not going to be duplicating copy protected disks, so I'd probably just use it in ICD emulation. Are there any reasons to use the Happy 1050 over the Doubler?
  3. Anybody know what has happened to Steve Tucker of Atarimax? I was in the middle of an email chain where he was helping me with a APE OS that I was having a problem with then he just vanished. I emailed him several times and no response. He has usually been rather quick and responsive when I have emailed him before.
  4. In the past, in discussions concerning which Atari-8bit(family), could be converted to run on the 5200 console, a common theme has been that the 5200 either lacks certain specs. My question is: can the extra capabilities found in the AtariMax, be of use have more Atari 8bit games converted to run on the 5200 console?
  5. Hi friends, I recently bought this wonderful AtariMax SD Multicart, I would like to trade it with a fully working and in good shape Atari 5200 trak-ball (+Centipede bonus ?) . This Atarimax cart originally contains Beef Drop and Venture (which I will miss) and is loaded with the usual 5200 stuff. The reason I am selling it, imo it is taking a bit of the magic of taking out a cartridge from the box and inserting in the 5200. Note : I asked Steve of Atarimax, to send me the unit without the label on the cartridge so I make a custom one, but I never did. It will be shipped with the original label and stuff.

  7. Has anyone ever made a universal game case insert for the Atarimax SD Cart for Colecovision? If not, would a Photoshop inclined member be willing to create one for all to enjoy? I have found staples does a good job of printing and cutting them on glossy paper. Thanks in advance!!
  8. I have created another video as I love doing doing this, this one for Atari Max, who is next on my free video creation kick? Shall we promote Atari BBS's in my next video, I need some actual screens from the BBSs that are up and running , maybe an AtariAge video would be appropriate , how about it admin? I can do anything in a video, as you can see... Russ AtariMax Video
  9. Hello guys After drooling over AtariMax's "SIO2PC Universal USB DUAL SIO Jacks", I finally bought one a couple of month ago. Without noticing that AtariMax doesn't seem to have Mac software available. So now the question is: How do I get this to work on the iMac (running High Sierra public beta 2)? Sincerely Mathy
  10. Hello all: I just purchased a complete Atarimax USB kit with ProSystem, is this a good purchase or would my 10502USB device have been sufficient for copying Atari disks. What all can I do with this new AtariMax hardware and software that I can't so with the 10502USB device? Actually maybe you, Nezgar can tell me this is its right up your alley so to speak, maybe you will get an extra 10502USB device in the mail, who knows? Russ
  11. Hello guys With permission of Steven Tucker, I have published the dimensions of his AtariMax cartridge shells on my Docs page. Thanks to both Steven Tucker and Dropcheck (for asking). Sincerely Mathy

  13. Hi all - kind of new here. This is my 1st forum topic. Getting ready to go for this Atarimax Ultimate SD for the 5200. I guess I will ultimately figure it out, but weary of wasting {free} hours/days, which will translate into month(s) before I get it all figured out and can focus more on simply enjoying the games. I'm not finding a lot of how too info. on this stuff, and the Atarimax forum topics seeking help when problems do arise don't seem to get much attention. Anyway-Is my worry for naught? Is the finding and downloading games process pretty straight forward? Any other tips or guidance on best places to grab games (should I be saying ROMs??) or how to do it if/when I do get it? Not as clueless s I may be seeming, but I just don't have much interest in having a "can not open/access file"-type experience right now. I hope I got this out in a way that can be found by others here & Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. Also-If anyone has Sean Kelly or the like that they might be happy to part with in order to build funds to get their own Ultimate SD, I may be able to help towards that end. {but, I should note that I may move on this before the 7/27 deadline they currently have going, which could, but not necessarily, affect my interest in that regard} - Thanks again.
  14. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything. Is there a tool that will convert binary images to and from the old / new format? How is it different, banking order? I found a file I want to use with my Ultimate SD cart, but Altirra shows no .car type for it. File is attached. Steves OSS-ICD Multi-Cart (8mbit Maxflash Image).zip
  15. I know I'm gonna get some hate posts but I wonder when the full, finished version of Tempest for the 5200 be out as a rom (or other 5200 codec) for all of us to use on our AtariMax SD carts??? Those of us who DID buy the physical cartridge (including myself) would be SO stoked to have the finished version on their AtariMax SD carts too!!! I hope Keithen will allow it considering the tremendous success of the cart release. Also, I wish all of the Mean Hamster Software and First Star Software games (like Flip And Flop, Combat 2: Advanced, Adventure II, and Haunted House II 3D among them), which were available only as limited carts, be available for all of us who didn't (or couldn't) get the carts of those. Also, some few years back I bought the so-called Space Invaders "Arcade Version" (an obvious hack) on eBay and wondered if it will be available as a binary as well. With the most recent release/leak of Venture as a rom (and I DO have that on my AtariMax SD cart too) why not???
  16. Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my AtariMax flash cart for the 5200. It plays most ROM's just fine, but there are a handful that just won't play. They will start up, but after a second or 2 they crash - scrambled graphics, sounds, etc. until they are unplayable. This is always on the same games, and always in the same manner. Amongst the games that don't work are Frogger 2 and The Last Starfighter. I've tried altering the settings, using different ROM images, using different SD cards, and running the self-diagnostic. Nothing seems to work. Looking at the status screen, I have firmware version 20110125. I compared with my friend William Culver and he has version 20130504. I'm thinking mine is out of date somehow (even though I got the cart not that long ago). Does anyone know how to update it? The Atarimax website has an FAQ, but the section that explains the firmware update is greyed out. I've reached out to Steven, but haven't gotten a response from him after a couple of emails. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! -Matt
  17. I am looking for a simple example of: a) A MADS based program. b) ... which will use an AtariMax 1mb or 8mb cartridge when written to it. c) ... which then can switch in any bank from the cartridge. I'd also like some clarification of: - If a 2 megabit file is added to the 8mb cartridge, when you're addressing bank 0, is that bank 0 of the file that is being addressed or bank 0 of the cartridge as a whole? I guess the latter.
  18. Hi All, I noticed a problem with the Spelunker cartridge conversion on the Demonstration workbook of Maxflash cartridge studio. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/239287-in-development-sd-card-based-multicart/page-3?do=findComment&comment=3280461 (I'm starting a new topic in the hope more people will see it and somebody may have some insight). Basically, the game doesn't load first time on my PAL 130XE (upgraded 65XE), but will work the second time as long as I only turn the power off very briefly. Power off for more than about 5 seconds and it fails subsequent times too. I noticed this while testing my SD card based multi-cart, but playsoft has confirmed the same behaviour on a NTSC 1200XL. Does anybody else have these problems with disk conversions using Maxflash studio and atarimax cartridges? Robin
  19. Is there a way to get games to save data when using the Atarimax MyIde 2 ? When using the MyIde 2, I noticed that when i play a game which saves high scores, etc, it isn't there the next time i power up and load the game again via MyIde 2. Do programs running on the computer ( in this case i use with 800XL and 130XE machines) have the ability to write data to the SD card in the Myide 2? Thanks! -Eric
  20. In the end I disabled GWX to stop the nagware, but I am told the free upgrade to Windows 10 ends soon. Can anyone confirm if Atarimax's SIO2USB and APE software works ok under Windows 10?
  21. I have an Atari 800XL and a 1050 drive. I have old games, written when I was in junior high, and I would like to move them to the PC, where I can casually enjoy them via emulation. Likewise, I have recently hacked a couple A8 games (Popeye and Donkey Kong Jr). I would like to be able to enjoy them on my ACTUAL 800XL hardware. I really liked the idea of Lotharek's SIO2SD. However, I heard it can be tedious to cycle through a lot of software with 1 line of text and 4 buttons. Even though it would require my laptop nearby, I think I am leaning toward the SIO2PC/SIO2USB solution. The problem is that there are two different items with the same name. (One uses caps in the product name). Which one is the most versatile and uses the best software. AtariMax has an SIO2USB, and I have been eyeing that for a long time. My understanding is that it uses WinAPE software. Lotharek has an sio2usb. It is tiny -- the size of an sio plug. I am not sure what software works with it, but he seems to have a lot of good stuff. So WHICH ONE? I would like to be able to use .atr AND .xex files. Can either of these units handle both formats? Which one has easier to use software? Will either one be better for transferring my old games TO the PC? (Will they both act as a 1050 emulator to my PC?) Is it possible that neither of these will work for my purpose, and I need to go SIO2SD? Finally, are there any solutions I am missing? I have searched SIO2USB and SIO2PC in the forums, and I seem to get way too many irrelevant posts..
  22. Not to sound like an ad for Atarimax but I just created an Action! cartridge using the maxflash device and it was real easy and cheap. With Action! cartridges going for some ridiculous prices as of recent to make one for about $25 was nice. Here is my blog on the process: http://8-bitretrocomputerguy.tumblr.com/post/143402124019/creating-an-atari-8-bit-action-cartridge-and P.S. also made a nice manual for Action! and had it bound for about $5.
