Hey folks, Stumbled across a post on Reddit about an unidentified game in the 1981 Atari catalog. The game in question is the pink/magenta box to the right of Dodge ‘Em on the bottom row on the left. Redditor /u/HKT-3020 skewed the image from a higher resolution source giving us this image. The layout of the art is similar to Slot Racer, with an arc in the bottom left and some sort of sphere or orb in the upper left, but definitely not Slot Racer. The letters themselves are impossible to read but it almost looks like a hyphenated title. Does anyone have any ideas? I checked the box scans for all the games in the catalog and nothing matches up.

Yeah, so, I thought it would be fun to pick apart or give credit to bad, good or excellent game art. I started this over on Lemon64 but no takers so I thought I might bring it here, to a wider audience who might have fun with it. To kick off, I think John McEnroe here might be better off with an actual Tennis Racket rather than the Frying Pan he seems to be holding.

I've noticed some alternate box covers for Frogger. There's the original Parker Bothers, silver cover and then there seems to be a second version that looks like the silver Atari branded copies. Did Atari acquire the rights to publish Frogger and make their own boxes? Are these just competent photoshop jobs? A few of the Atari branded ones I've seen have price stickers on them. Does anyone have an idea of what's up with that?

Hello, Everyone! I spent roughly two weeks completely reconstructing every single Atarisoft box front, as I needed them for my own purposes (I have a smart home system that contains media functionality), and thought they might be of use to everyone else! I had to go through and carefully match the fonts against my font books (from when I did professional fontography and typography layout), and carefully match colors to Pantone against the real boxes that I could find of each type. I think I've done reasonably well, at least they are all consistent. There were many Atarisoft titles which did not have official releases, so I had to make new box art for them, and using the same pattern as the existing ones, I took the illustrations from Atari's existing catalogue, in all cases. I wasn't sure where to put this post. I got a homebrew of Megamania called "Mega Metal". I was thinking about Activision art work and thought it could use a box. Then I thought of a better designs for sprites. Can someone point this newbie to the correct forums/posts to teach me to redraw sprites on Megamania. Here is the box art work in progress. Hello all, Not sure if this is just old news, but the LAKKA OS seems, to me, to be the best way to view/manipulate Atari roms. Meaning, the roms aspect ratio can be changed to almost anything you want. Being able to play any Atari 2600 Rom, in a 16:9 aspect ratio in full true HD, gives you the best modern viewing experience for these games. I play the roms, thru the Lakka OS, which is installed on a modern Intel PC as the sole dedicated operating system. Although the latest Atari Flashback 8 HD does a good job as well, the aspect ratio of the games is not great as they don't fill the screen. With this emulator, you can even view box art while flipping thru your list of games. If you like to experiment you can install the OS on a Rasberry Pi, or eqivalent, and fit it inside the original case of an Atari 2600. Apologies if this topic has already been discussed, I've tried going through a few different threads but things got a little confusing. I'm trying to determine which box art style came first. Take Moon Patrol for instance; There are at least 3 different box art styles for this game - One red, one silver (matching the style of other similar Atari boxes), and a second silver with its own full-cover sized artwork. The release dates are one thing, but then they could be NTSC/PAL boxes which brings in an entirely different question. Does anyone know the order in which these were released? Thanks in advance!

It's the vision of director Rob McCallum, who has done a bunch of other great work, including the documentary Nintendo Quest. I'm serving as a producer on the documentary, and hope to provide some context, connections with artists, and an overall look at art and design in the classic gaming era. The Video Game BOX ART you see often depends on where you buy it. This video will compares the Japanese Box Art to US/North American Box Art on the Playstation 2. I now realize that European box art is often similar to the Japanese art. Which console should I cover next?

Hello fellow Colecovites and Colecovisioneers, Looking at who may be interested in having authentically remastered, high-quality replacement cardboard boxes for their collecting appeal. At this time I have one flavor available, Donkey Kong. I wanted to start more or less chronologically, and DK is a good candidate due to its limited box availability. These are 100% re-rendered, 600 dpi color laser images transferred onto boxes made from high-density, 180 lb. semi-gloss card stock. They are Made in the U.S.A. and 100% "home-brewed" by yours truly. There are only a few minor details that differ from the original box--the main one being an actual screenshot of game play on the back side--rather than the original artist's rendering of the level 1 screen. If I gather enough interest from the AA Colecovision community, I'll start taking names. I hope everyone is having a very Colecovisionesque December so far. Cheers to you all! Greg

Hello all! My production company just started a Kickstarter campaign for the Atari 2600-themed film CHRISTMAS BYTES. Set in 1982, the film -- produced by Dule Hill (Psych, West Wing), featuring Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire, Man of Steel) with a soundtrack by The Residents -- is about two fourteen year-old boys, one wants an Atari 2600 for Christmas.
