color computer Two updated games for the CoCo: Awari v2 & Mille Borne v2
hloberg posted a blog entry in HLO projects
while back I posted these two games for the CoCo; Awari and Mille Borne. But I wasn't too happy with the quality of the job I did so I pulled them. I have since worked on them a little and now I'm fairly happy with the results. Awari; You can choose the background color (if you have a CoCo2b or better) and who starts 1st and if you want random placement of stones or traditional. Mille Borne; I cleaned up the code as I had a couple errors and sped it up a bit. So for CoCo fans, Enjoy. Games.zip -

Good new classic gamers ! I am designing a graphic accelarator cart that will work will all models of the Color Computer . This will allow WiFi ,Multiplayer, Animated Sprites, Tilemaps, Backgrounds, Mp3's , Parallex scrolling , raytracing and more on this open source software to run on your standard coco . Step 1 , load your tilemaps, sprites, sound files and backgrounds on a sd card. Step 2 Play advanced games on your coco or design your own games / applications even from Basic ! Enjoy real world images (.bmp ) files , mp3 music , all from your coco's native monitor/tv set. I am using the funds from my kickstarter game to develope this bleeding edge technology that will allow games like my Space pirate Kimiko game to run on real hardware and still enjoy actual soundtracks and fast graphics. No special programs are needed to use this pre loaded cart. Just as simple as .. POKE 49440,3 will play song 3 from your sd card. So please support this project ! Thanks, MrDave6309

Hi, I recently purchased a TRS-80 Color Computer model 1 on ebay and have a few questions I'm hoping someone will be able to answer. The unit is an early model with the chicklet keyboard and badge on the left. Cosmetically it is close to near mint condition. However, when I turn it on there are vertical lines in the picture. My Color Computer model 2 does not have these lines. I also noticed that the colors appear washed out on the model 1 as opposed to my model 2. Is this normal for an early model 1, or are some capacitors possibly starting to fail? I also noticed that there is a noticeable buzz coming from the power supply, is that normal? My model 2 does not have this buzz. There is also a loose solder connection on the RF input jack, as when I move the RF cable the picture flickers. Should I just send the unit back for a refund? Thanks.

Wasn't sure where to put this since it isn't Tandy-specific. That and it's retro, yet new at the same time: In other news, here's a working link for Windows port of the original 1982 version: https://www.blitter.com/~nebulous/otherworld/DoD.zip

As I cannot delete my thread and given the revelation below, I will still be taking offers on this system with and without a working drive. Color Computer 2, 64k, Extended BASIC, with FD-501 system, Tandy Computer cassette recorder, two CoCo joysticks, Coco-to-Atari joystick adapter, a bunch of disks and books. The system turns on and runs fine except for the disk system. Formatting a disk returns an IO error, as does trying to get a directory of a disk. I have done some repairs to try to fix it to no avail: replaced leaked caps on the floppy drive, replaced the 7416 transceivers in the FD-501 cartridge with 7406s, tried a different cable, as well as a different drive (with proper settings.) Bingo results. Even more odd is SOMETIMES after a DSKINI0 the system will lock up or show garbled characters on the screen and only a power-cycle will fix it. At this point I suspect the 1773 is bad but have no spare with which to test. Stricken above: it turns out the "known good" drive I was using is, in fact, bad. I pulled out a DSDD 3.5" drive and VOILA! I can format, get a directory, and print the number of free granules. I have several 5.25 DSDD drives available and if you desire I will test to find one which will work in the unit (thought I cannot promise a black face.) The system came from the home of a heavy smoker. I have completely disassembled the system and cleaned it up, including a full disassembly of the keyboard (holy crap that thing was gross -- you smokers are KILLING your machines!) The system was upgraded to 64k and comes with Extended BASIC, per the photos but note with the FD-501 attached it shows "DISK EXTENDED BASIC 1.1" The books, disks, and original computer box all smell of cigarette smoke and I have tried to deodorize them without ruining them. Shipping for the computer and accessories will be a good bit, though I can ship the books and floppies via media mail. Taking offers. Please indicate interest and PM me. Pictures in the gallery below. I let my phone battery go flat so I will have to post more pictures later (including the fully re-assembled computer and drive system, as well as the accessories. Will NOT include RF cable or TV connections.

http://retrotinker.blogspot.com/2016/08/using-receipt-printer-with-cocomc-10.html Just a fun little write-up about what I did to get my CoCo and/or MC-10 to use a modern-ish RS-232 receipt printer for normal printing duties...enjoy!

I just bought this unit today. It is an original 4K version of the Color Computer 1. After fiddling with the inner RF box, I finally got a nice picture and the unit does seem pretty much untouched, even though the tamper sticker and screw under it was missing. I've tried a few cartridges I had laying around, but so far it doesn't want to play them. At most I get garbage on the screen or just a green screen, even after cleaning a few times. I'm hoping it's just a case the carts I am trying are too big for this unit's 4K of RAM. I have a slightly later unit with the 32K of RAM, but I always figured I would pick up an early 4K version if I found one in decent shape. And yes, it is only running Color Basic 1.0!

I'm extremely new to actually using the CoCo 2 and basic code in general. So I found some sample basic code in an old december issue of The Rainbow that does a little Xmas demo and i'm wondering if there is a way to type it in on my modern computer(this one is a Macbook Pro, but I can also run windows so i'm fairly platform agnostic) in a text editor and convert that file to a cassette image or a disk image I can load on the CoCo? Does this even make sense?
-
I've seen a couple different tape decks on eBay and i'm not sure which is the proper one to use for the CoCo, but in any event, I was hoping to acquire a cheap deck with the audio cables, say the $20 range if possible. I have exactly one cassette game that it took me weeks to track down and I am hoping that my girlfriend will actually be able to play it on her CoCo on Xmas if she wants to open the package.
