  1. Pong Music Demo from the BCC#18 Party in Berlin recompiles the byte code for the soundtrack on every level! There were some errors during playback on the live stream, here is a 10 minute video of the C64 and Atari 2600 Supercharger versions showing the AI composing new sound tracks. Which pieces do you like best in the video? How it works: Music is mathematical. A complementary algorithm changes frequencies, tempo and instrument definitions based on the existing musical score. The algorithm is then called recursively against each set of outputs (new songs) created. The Atari 2600 Supercharger makes dynamic code recompilation possible like on the Commodore 64 by replacing ROM with RAM. PongMusicdemo.bin pongmusicdemo.prg Playing the demo: To play the demo push up to enter player mode, push down to resume demo mode. You can let the demo keep playing and hear new songs for hours from the AI!
  2. Christmas Inertia For the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64 Christmas Inertia is a fast-paced demo and game where you pick up friends in different zones. Each zone has different inertia pulling you in different directions making it challenging to pick friends up. If you prefer to watch the demo the AI can pick up friends for you! xmasinertia.bin xmasinertia.prg Design Written in Atari SuperCharger BASIC using graphics commands. Three Display Lists are created using the ASCII art virtual world drawn in the program listing. The Display Lists split the screen up to create Windows on the virtual world. Each Window has a separate camera view. Create Display List Games and Demos Display List Windows are familiar to Atari Home Computer programmers but new for the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64. Programming Display Lists are limited only by your own imagination. 3. Interesting discussion on the Lemon64 Commodore forum regarding a flicker free artifact color mode for the Commodore 64. Turns out this mode is supported on the Atari 2600 too. Flicker free 256 color mode is achieved by adding motion blur to 30 FPS scrolling visuals and games. Backgrounder on MBR Technology For anyone who doesn't know what MBR Motion Blur Reduction is, it's been built into modern Television sets for about 10 years and is a technology that reduces motion blur when there is movement. I invented this innovative tech over 10 years ago with the parallel research on Blurbusters.com creating the same technology around the same timeframe. We were both working on advanced display technology and discovered it accidentally as a byproduct of research. This Technology primarily benefits entertainment industry companies like COMCAST, NETFLIX and AmazonPrime Recently MBR technology may have morphed to include frame interpolation which is not how we originally designed it, there's an interesting article here with Tom Cruise asking you to turn this default option off on your modern Television or LCD monitor when watching the new Mission Impossible. I just saw MI7 last night and it's a great movie btw, I highly recommend watching it. How to Turn off Motion Smoothing and Why You Should (variety.com) Flicker Free 256 Color mode Demo example on the Atari 2600 and flicker versions to compare So here's the example of the flicker free 256 color mode demo on the Atari 2600 - Silly Venture Fluid City B side, 1st place finisher at the 2019 Atari Art Party in Gdansk: SillyVenture2019_Fluid_City_B_Side_PAL.bin And here's the 256 Color mode in the Smiley Artie demo using flicker as already previously implemented on the Atari 2600: smileyartie.prg Here are the Commodore 64 versions, these the same ROM binaries running inside the Atari 2600 emulator for the Commodore 64: fluildctyb.prg fluidcty.prg smileyartie.bin To try out the flicker free 256 color mode demo you will need a real Atari 2600 classic console and a PAL or NTSC classic CRT Television or Monitor. Instructions Start the game and you will see the extra colors from changes to the luminosity on either side of the buildings. Hit the throttle (push to the right or engage the BW switch) to see the extra colors vanish as the speed of the framerate increases to match the Hz. The buildings will also become crystal clear with no motion blur, it's the motion blur that causes the extra color shades on the retina. On the Commodore 64 you will see the same extra colors created from luminance changes. Interestingly, the flickering version works in VICE and Javatari emulators, but the flicker free version does not. The Motion blur still increases the size of the buildings, but the shape is different and there is no additional luminosity change to create the extra shades. Anyone have an idea why?? Note I have not tried with Stella yet. 4. My innovative Atari 2600 Emulator for the Commodore 64 has been stolen in a malicious Cyberattack. The cyber thieves hacked the emulator and a recent Arok Party production of Arkanoid AIR DOH to create a broken version, and created a Facebook page to promote it giving me credit for the broken sourcecode. Arok Party loved the original production calling the game fun and challenging and presented it first in their line-up but the broken version is harsh and unpleasant deliberately making it unplayble and offensive. Worse still the cyber thieves deliberately incorporated a disturbing theme found on AtariAge creating a "DNS" attack on the IP by incorporating the details from my post in response to suicide poster regarding a fake suicide caller attacking my business with a DNS attack consisting of endless calls to my business. The malicious Cyberattack was successful and people were tricked on multiple forums to think I had produced the bad emu and offensive prod. This type of malicious attack is no different than someone deliberately stealing the Stella emulator to promote a broken version on Facebook crediting the Stella team, or hacking AtariAge and Facebook to create fake sites and promoting them as Albert's work. How would the Stella team feel if this was done to their emulator? How would Al feel if someone did that to AtariAge? This kind of malicious Cyberattack could easily affect a business acquisition by Atari or emulator licensing contracts for Stella. Copy Steal and Ridicule is the formula used by unethical businesses to appropriate architecture and designs they did not create. Perpetual GRANTS protecting IP RelationalFramework has two Perpetual GRANTS from Microsoft for Technology Innovation; these were achieved by the extended interest of the entire Database and Sofware development teams; literally thousands of people. And then simply turning down multiple offers that looked too much like acquisition; I'm eclectic about my IP having written commercial software since the 80's. Perpetual Motion Machine GRANTS for innovation make RelationalFramework a prime target for acquisition because they stay with the Company forever. And innovation is always a target for outright theft or can simply influence other design innovations. Here's a closed thread about influencing design innovation for Atari and AtariAge to review that's simply about sharing design credit. Questions about both are welcome on this thread and everyone is welcome to participate in a civil discussion. @Albert and @TrogdarRobusto please moderate any unfriendly posts or insults, but not an exchange of ideas and perspectives. Here is a link to the latest development on the C64 Atari 2600 emulator adding compatibility with Defender III for the Atari Flashback Portable, I haven't released the updated source yet.

  7. My friends. My Commodore 64 went poop. I have some toys for someone. I'm asking 75.00 for the pair. Here's what I know. First this is a modern version of the Epyx Fastload cartridge. From my understanding it WILL work with the SD21IEC Next the SD2IEC plugs into a commodore 64 and you can load d64 images from a memory card. I was using the SD2IEC card reader at the time my Commodore 64 crapped out. I had ordered the FastLoad and it had not yet arrived. So didn't get to test them together. The SD2IEC I know works awesome! I was half-way though a game of Forbidden Forest when something happened to my commodore's graphics chip and it blacked out. The SD2IEC works with standard SD cards. I had a 32GB card in when I tested. Format the SD card, copy this file browser to your card. https://commodore.software/downloads/download/29-disk-menus/1140-cbm-filebrowser-v1-6 The download d64 C64 images onto the card. Load the file browser, LOAD"*",8,1 just like any disk drive. Then you can browse into each d64 image on the SD Card. I watched a you tube video and figured it out. Just search for SD2IEC. If something happens and the FastLoad doesn't work with the SD2IEC (Since I couldn't test), I'll refund 25.00 back on the purchase.
  8. I have never owned a C64 before, but just acquired one from my neighbor to evaluate and possibly purchase (Serial # S00067211). I have been getting more and more into retro computer tinkering and modding, and I started blogging about my projects at https://blog.codesurfer.dev I opened the case to test the electrolytic capacitors before powering it up (I also tested the power supply separately), and noticed that all of the ICs are dated 1982 with the possible exception of the PLA, the sticker on it reads "C64 REV 3 8411". Does that mean that the PLA is a 1984 version? Is this a particularly unique/rare version of C64 with collector value, and should I avoid doing any mods on it? A few interesting things happened when I originally powered this unit up. Firstly, even with the power switch in the "OFF" position, when I connected the power supply to the computer and then plugged the power supply into the outlet, the "POWER" LED came on! Secondly, my monitor registered a signal (the "no signal" prompt went away) but it was the "black screen" that I have read so much about. Needless to say this was bittersweet, I was hoping to see something come up on the screen, but figured, "now I can learn & blog about this C64 while troubleshooting it". I downloaded a copy of the C64 Service Manual from The Internet Archive, and checking the board schematic saw that the POWER LED should only turn on when the main +5VDC is available. The schematic showed that the power switch interrupts the +5VDC coming from the power brick, and one leg of the 9VAC supplying the other voltages on the board. So I opened it up again, but this time removed the board from the bottom case half and tested the DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) power switch with my multimeter. The switch checked out just fine, so before re-assembling it I connected the POWER LED and then the power brick. This time the LED did not come on until I turned on the power switch! Seeing that I decided to connect the monitor using my DIY Atari 800 A/V cable (The 5 pin DIN pinouts of the C64 and Atari 800 are similar enough to make this possible) and I got a clean yet monochrome screen!!! Has anyone else experienced something like this? I am thinking about looking for short circuits under the RF shielding before re-assembly. Any advice from the forum is greatly appreciated.
  9. My friends I’m looking to buy or trade for a working Commodore 64 Computer. Even 2 if we’re trading. Power supply possibly too if you have it. im ok dealing with money. Or I have a ton of Atari 2600 stuff for trade.
  10. Anyone here remember the 1983 game B.C.'s Quest for Tires? Based on the comic strip B.C. by Johnny Hart (1931-2007), this is basically a clone of Moon Patrol. You play the character of Thor from the B.C. comic strip (not the Marvel comics character), who rides on a stone wheel dodging obstacles on a quest to rescue the Cute Chick. I played the port of Colecovision. It was also ported to the Atari 800, Apple II, MSX and Commodore 64. It was a fun game. Given its similarity to Moon Patrol, I'm surprised that it never got a port to other platforms like the Atari 2600, 5200 or 7800. (Cue to homebrew developers out there!) Anyone else play this game?
  11. I have 4 binders full of copied disks for the C64 (approximately 150 in total). Free to anyone who wants to pay shipping (they are a bit heavy). Here is a sample page from the index to give you an idea of what’s on them:
  12. StarBlitz_v5C_30hz.txt STARBLITZ is the first 30 FPS shooter for the Atari with 30 FPS of full screen animation. GameLoader is an Atari 2600 emulator for the Commodore 64 that adds fantastic Commodore graphics to Atari games by recompiling the source into a standalone executable that runs on the C64. 200% Overclocking GameLoader Turbo Edition is a new version of the emu that overclocks C64 Atari 2600 emulation by 200%. This effectively moves the bar from 1 Mhz emulation on a 1 Mhz platform to 2 Mhz emulation on a 1 Mhz platform. Overclocking Example and Technical Limitations STARBLITZ is now running at 200% speed, going from 30 FPS to 60 FPS of full screen animation on the Commodore 64: There are no changes to the game code, GameLoader Turbo Edition recompiles the source into a 2X Overclocked standalone executable for the Commodore 64. This video camera does not capture it well but STARBLITZ renders fluidly at 60 FPS double speed with no dropped frames. Television signal Limitations Limitations in the classic Television signaling specification prevent Silly Venture Fluid City, the first 60 FPS Atari game from speed doubling to reach 120 FPS: Availability GameLoader will be released at the Silly Venture Atari Art party Winter Festival in Gdansk.
  13. Running Atari 2600 programs on my NTSC C64! This is a Cross Compiler for the C64 that runs Atari 2600 programs written in Assembly and BASIC (SuperCharger BASIC and Flashback BASIC) with no changes to the BASIC or Assembly code. This is accomplished by abstracting the Atari 2600 virtual machine RUNTIME including a soft ANTIC blitter like Atari home computers bringing display list technology to the Commodore 64! Double the fun of racing the beam with the classic Television Threading Model on the Commodore 64 allows game loops that repeat 30 or 60 times per second with full screen animation each frame creating faster action scenes than are usually seen with the C64 design. The rich BASIC provides graphics and sound support and a camera object for panning around the virtual world, or with abstract Assembly programming (ASDK api). The next version will add color and audio support, check out some of the Atari 2600 BASIC and Assembly games that will be supported online here: http://relationalframework.com/Atari2600gamesonline.htm The Commodore 64 and the Atari 2600 Video Computer System are the two most popular retro computer consoles, write programs that run on both! Details: The soft blitter, camera object and display lists are running and functional, I dropped the compiled Atari 2600 BASIC Assembly code and the bitmap right into the 64 Framework and it ran the same in the abstracted VM on my Commodore 64. I can cross compile some of the BASIC at this point and am adding the RUNTIME subsystems that are missing. Adding sprites, sound and color next... the Tracker/Sequencer for the TIA chiptunes is going to be tremendous fun on the 6581! C64 Extra tile detail: The VM abstracts each 1 bit textured phat tile the TIA draws into 4 characters on the VIC-II text screen allowing both tiled patterns and background patterns to be drawn, I chose the same graphic for the 4 background tile quadrants in the demo. There's inspiring concept innovation with prior art if a prototype was ever produced!
  14. The Game Modem PlusCart exclusive Fluid City B Side Throttle Control is an interactive Atari 2600 game that runs at up to 60 FPS of full screen animation. Game Loader the Atari 2600 Emulator for the Commodore 64 I am working on is running the game at full speed and my camera cannot keep up with the CRT Television image at 60 FPS of animation: This is true Atari 2600 emulation on the C64 I haven't changed any code in the game from the link above, Game Loader dynamically recompiles the source to add Commodore Graphics to Atari 2600 games and loads them on the C64 as standalone binary. VICE jammed for some reason but not the real hardware this time, sometimes it's the other way around.
  15. I thought I would include a Commodore 64 video from the same guy who reviewed The Mystery of the Missing Princess, the Army Men games, Kileak: The DNA Imperative, Captain Claw, and various NASCAR games. Warning: Contains cluelessness and nasty language.
  16. I am a very loyal Atari 8-bit fan with cubic meters of hardware, kits, boxes and software. However, out of curiosity, I also have a TI99/4A, Apple IIe (& platinum), CBS ColecoVision (& all the add-ons), very old MS-DOS laptops, and ... since very recently, I got cheaply 2x C64, 1x C128, a 1541 drive. I bought a Kung Fu Flash cartridge (very handy) I know the Atari 8-bit games very well, I've been playing with my 800XL since I was 13, in 1984. And I still play today thanks to my FujiNet to Boulder Dash, Montezuma's revenge, The Goonies, Burger Time, Mr TNT, Drop zone, Bruce Lee, Galaxian, The Great American Cross-Country Road Race, etc, etc. But the C64 is brand new to me. I don't know where to start the exploration. I'm just looking for some advice: if you are familiar with Atari 8-bit and C64 games, which C64 games do I really need to play? Good C64 games that don't exist on the Atari 8-bit... Good C64 games that are really better made than their Atari 8-bit counterpart... (the opposite also exists, I know some)... Do you have any suggestions for me? After this escapade, I promise, the Commodore hardware will be back in the basement.
  17. I've been refurbishing old consoles and building a new retro gaming center for myself, this year. I figured I would dump the photos here from the past few months so I don't lose them. It all started when I found this really nice old Sylvania flatsceen TV that is still old enough to not be widesreen ($7 Goodwill). After that, it was a matter of cleaning dust and grime off the old consoles, which had been sitting dormant on bookcase shelves, and diagnosing which controllers worked, and which were defective. At this point, my Atari controllers were stuttering or intermittently unresponsive. The Atari was still dusty, and lots of cartridges really needed to be jiggered around to get them to work. Without any cleaning for this, the problem resolved on its own after some use swapping cartridges on the console over a few weeks. The Intellivision II functioned, but still needs serious jiggering to get cartridges to load, but none of them were found to be dead. The playstation 2 works beautifully, but none of my memory cards were recognized. Some of the controllers turned out to be broken, especially the "clear red plastic" one seen plugged in here. I found a nice woodgrain cabinet for a stand at goodwill for 5 bucks, and used an old xetec Amiga hard drive casing for the stand to raise the TV up a bit. Next, I took apart the 2 sets of Atari paddles, which suffered from "Jitter," and cleaned them. Reassembled after cleaning the residue and grease with alcohol and swabs, they worked perfectly. The next challenge was to open up both joysticks, remove the clear adhesive over the boards, clean them, and reassemble with packing tape over the boards. Both of them worked very well, aside from an issue with one of them: The cable plastic seemed pretty stiff, and would lose control if it was not held in a certain position - ultimately a small tug downwards of the connector end plugged into the back of the console got whatever connections were loose to connect. But, this one went into my "museum" for non-use, ultimately. Next, I took apart the console and cleaned the case. I found three areas on the RF cable where the plasic cord exterior had torn, but it seems that the cable is still working perfectly, so a little electrical tape was wrapped around the frayed parts to protect them. Ultimately, I want to replace the cord and fix the connectors in the B&W switch, and get a second Atari joystick, but this is good enough for now. After the next photo was taken, I popped the caps off the paddles and cleaned them some more. Next, I identified two playstation controllers that still functioned, though only one PS2 dualshock controlled worked, so a PS1 controller was borrowed from the old console which is in my "museum." I added a VCR to the mix, running the PS2 through that. Finally, I set up a spare tablet to be able to quicky hit a website with atari manuals on it, for reference if needed, and bought myself a Harmony Cartridge for the Atari for loading games from my organized rom library on SD card, which I continue to explore and learn about. My Atari Keyboard Controllers needed no maintenance - so they will be nice to have for Star Raiders. Finally, the Commodore 128 (64) computer and accompanying Commodore 1571 (Disk Drive) were set up as part of my functioning retro gaming center. It's still going to need some refurbishing to get it all cleaned up and "retro-brighted", with the 128 boot not functioning, lots of keys lacking spring or being loose, and the old RF video cable lacking proper RF shielding to prevent interference. But, it functions and I have access to all my old files and games. This was my primary computer literally from like 1985-1998. I'm making good on my "perpertual student" label for myself. Pacing myself, but aside from some repairs on this and the Atari, I still have two Commdore 64's and an Amiga 500 that will need to come back to life. The Amiga will need cleaning and retrobrighting, keyboard fixes, proper video cable, and a boot disk. The 64's with need to have their problem diagnosed. I have a Timex Sinclair 2068 with no cables, and an Atari 5200 that has a rusted end to it's RF (Power?? WTF) cable, which sparks when turned on. My playstation 1 is probably fine, but with the PS2, there's no rush on that. I'm definitely going to need a proper belkin surge protector instead of these two cheapo power strips. Projects for much later.
  18. I came across a booklet called Programming Pitdall Harry" mentioned in "Enter" Magazine, issue #11 (October 1984), here: https://archive.org/details/enter-magazine-11/page/n27/mode/1up According to "Enter," the booklet was give away at computer stores or you could get it directly from Activision for 25 cents (that sounds like a bargain). The booklet is described as allowing you to reprogram your Pitfall disk on the Commodore 64. I did find the booklet for the C64, here: https://pcmuseum.ca/Brochures/ProgramPitfall.pdf The lengthier-than-I-expected BASIC program included in the booklet allows you to "change Harry's speed," change the scene, "make Harry's shirt red... and more!" Has anyone seen this document before now? Was there an Atari version of this booklet? Adam
  19. Here we have a Quickshot IX "Deluxe Joyball Controller" by Spectravideo (SVI). You don't see too many of them around and it's a very interesting concept. Works best for maze-type games in my opinion. It's not a trackball, and rather you push the ball in the direction you want to go and it will click (think microswitches). It is meant to be played horizontally, not vertically (note the left hand/right hand toggle switch). It also has an autofire switch. All four suction cups on bottom are present. This controller is in good shape cosmetically and has been fully tested and functions as it should. Please see the attached pictures for more details. $25 including shipping to anywhere in the US takes it. Willing to ship to Canada but will need a little extra for shipping across the border (and all bets are off on transit time). Shoot me a PM with questions or to finalize a deal. Thanks!

  23. I am stuck on level 141 in Lode Runner on the 64, and am wondering if anyone knows if the keys can be redefined? (the U and O keys for digging are too close to the direction keys for me to use well.) All I found remotely resembling useful was https://entropymine.com/jason/lr/misc/controls.html, but I could not get this to work on a C=64. (tried a THE64, and a real C=128) Thanks in advance!
