  1. I've decided to create a backlog, as I keep losing track of future games I want to play. This thread will serve as a place for me to document my journey through retro gaming history by providing reviews of each game as I finish them. By all means, feel free to join along and include your own recommendations/backlogs. Here's the format I've used, but feel free to use whichever one you want. This should be pretty self-explanatory. I will be posting updates as I finish games, and at the end of each month I will post the updated backlog to reflect any new games and/or games completed. This will happen on my future blog posts, which will be linked once that comes out. Oh yeah, and for the sake of organization, I've included the 3DS and Switch. Which are not retro by any means, so feel free to disregard those. They're just there to help me keep track of those systems as well, and keep it all in one place. 2. I'm selling two of my Jaguars as complete starters sets (No box/manual/inserts, but all the "useful" stuff that came with the launch kit). One is on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/134505699892 - SOLD! The other, I'm selling here for significantly less, with the caveat that I'm hoping it will go to someone who will actually play it or develop on it, rather than just put it on a shelf or resale it, so interested buyers will have to PM me and make your case a little. I'll ignore inquiries that don't at least attempt to tell me about how you plan to use the unit. If you already have a Jaguar and are looking for a second, or if you want a showpiece, look elsewhere please. I'm hoping to help someone get started here. I can't verify anything. You're on the honor system, but keep in mind I know the serial number of this unit, and I like to browse eBay just for kicks. This Jaguar console has a small cosmetic blemish on it, as can be seen in the pictures, and the Cybermorph label has been partially peeled back in one corner, so they're not exactly "collector quality" anyway. Everything is, however, 100% functional, and I've given the cartridge edge and the cartridge slot a fresh cleaning to ensure no (Minimal? You're always going to hit these on occasion with Jaguar games.) red screen experience. See the picture of this actual unit & set of accessories connected up together and functional. If there are any questions about the condition or quality of the items, please ask them here in the thread so others can benefit from the answer as well. I'll ignore such questions via PM. The price is $300.00. Shipping will be $20 for USPS priority mail in the US (below cost), and at-cost for USPS international priority mail for international buyers if needed. I'll accept either Paypal or Venmo as payment. This is an NTSC/US unit. See my small user feedback thread here: But note I also sold nearly 100 Skunkboards with zero returns or complaints here as well, so I like to think I'm a known quantity around here at this point:
  3. We should have a thread dedicated to advertising of our beloved classic games, computers, consoles, etc. We can share television commercials, print ads, circulars, etc. I'll start us off with this Commodore 64 television commercial. I remember seeing this commercial on television that touted how amazing of a gaming machine the Commodore 64 was. Of course, if those kids came knocking down the door at my house, I'd call the cops.
  4. While there is lot of discussion about Taiwanese carts, I was wondering about Taiwanese consoles. And since I did not find much information at AtariAge, I started searching the web (using Google translate). This seems to be an interesting forum, the linked post talks about quite number of Atari 2600 consoles which I have never seen before. And a similar post from another forum here. Given these two posts, there must be much more hidden behind that language wall.
  5. Hi, I'm in my late 40's now. I am kind of new here but, been reading for many years. I work in IT and do the home theater thing so I know A/V stuff very well. If you have been watching my posts over the last month or so, I have been trying to get all my classic consoles together, I am going to buy a 6' X 6' Ikea shelfing ( https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50360146/#/70301537) and MODIFY it so it can fit all these consoles, put a back on it(white back sheets) so you cant see through it (keep wires hidden as well). Route out a channel on the tops so I can put LED lights to light up each shelf with a central dimmer so I can adjust the brightness. My wife is not too crazy about this idea but, she knows it's GOING TO HAPPEN. Personally, I think it's going to look epic. The lay out of the cabinets will allow me to setup 20 classic consoles (bottom level will be used for storage, controllers, etc), with another shelfing unit that I use for current consoles. The TV in this room (the layout would not allow a 2nd tv, so no CRT) is a LG 65" 4K TV. I have about 20-25 classic consoles NOT including anything from the last 8 or so years (Wii is classic, WiiU is not... for example). I have been testing them ONE BY ONE, all controllers, games, etc and they are all in a large spreadsheet with serial numbers So, rattling my brain around this one. It's a VERY, very complex setup. The first part, get everything connected so it can be switched to use each system (I have a PRONTO remote that can do that). Then show/play on the TV with the best results. So, we have RF, Composite, S-video, component, AND HDMI. The other major issue I have noticed. Lower res stuff over HDMI deals with a level of HDMI lag. I have read that it's close to 50ms on some res on my TV (cant replace it). Part of the plan is to modify classic systems to get AT LEAST composite out of them and PREFER S-Video, run into a few RetroTink 2X to HDMI, HDMI swich to Scaller (push everything up to 4K to assure low lag) then to the TV. We also have range, so some controllers will need extensions and other classics with bult in controllers will need to have enough cable to pull close to seating with out showing cable on the shelf. The RetroTink does not do auto switching, or does it have remote control to change sources, so I will need a few of them, one for each type of source (one for S-video, One for Composite, one for Component) and run them into a HDMI switch. I AM in the US so going to RGB is not something I want to do. I was VERY, VERY lucky to find a S-video/compsite switcher that does 12 X2 (so 12 S-video/composite inputs and 2 outputs so I could do muli-source down the line) so this should cover MOST composite / S-video devices. A very expensive device from many years ago. The Questions I am really wondering... As there is possible HDMI lag, SHOULD I keep these analog (then you deal with analog issues), get them all to component video with a scaller, and keep them in analog. Or stay with HDMI ? People saying get rid of the TV and just get a CRT is not helping. A CRT cant happen. I am sure others have taken on this type of project, not sure if anyone has done it at this scale (setting up one cabinet to run 20 consoles) Any advice on this one, as I am looking for others who have tried this type of project, one of those "People who don't know history tend to repeat it" type things. Just really looking for some advice on this project ! Thanks in advance ! -Dave
  6. This is my current setup. I'm more of a hardware nerd than anything else.
  7. What are consoles that (in your opinion) make owning other similar consoles of the era (or current) redundant? Here is my take on a few: -Having and XEGS makes the 5200 redundant. Both A8 computers that have been consolized, XEGS has more power and access to a larger library. -Having a Genesis makes owning a Master System Redundant, you can play the whole library on a Genesis with a power base converter or on an everdrive -Having A Genesis or SNES makes owning a TG-16 redundant. Most of the best 16 bit titles went to those two systems. -Having a Saturn/PS1 makes owning a 3DO redundant. Pretty much all the good 3DO games are on Saturn or PS1 -Having a PS2/Gamecube/Xbox makes owning a Dreamcast redundant. Most of the best titles from the DC were ported to those later systems. -Having a PS3 makes the PS1 redundant. All models play PS1 games quite well. -Having a Wii makes the Gamecube redundant, backwards compatible. -Having and Xbox one makes the Xbox 360 and Xbox redundant, the system is ever increasingly backwards compatible. -Having a Gameboy advance makes the Gameboy Color and Gameboy redundant because of backwards compatibility -Having a New 3DS makes having a 3DS, DS redundant because of backwards compatibility Thoughts?! What did I miss or get wrong in your opinion?
  8. Hey, I am an electronics engineer student and as my final career project I want to create a game console in an FPGA. It is going to be a 2D video game console, the maximun amount of colors is 256 and is going to be developed in a Spartan6. I want to know your thoughts or any question you have. And if you can, please fill in the survey.
  9. Hello fellow Atariagers!!! Well, I started my account here in 2012. But never really did much. So I've become active since the last month and really got quite comfortable around here. I like to show my game room. "The Compound. I'm going to have to do several posts in a row on this thread due to many pictures I have taken. Well, to lead it off. Here is what I have console wise. 10. What do you do with broken stuff? I get most consoles repaired these days, but I have a few controllers I really like (a six button w/turbo genesis controller, multiple 2600 controller, and a translucent green N64 controller) that I just can't figure out what to do with. I also have an extra Apple G3 laptop that I should sell for parts or repair. As I see it we have a few options with any given item. -Hoard until parts become available and you can fix item -Fix item -Sell for parts -Toss I'm torn. I hate throwing away something thinking it could be fixed, but also don't like having broken crap taking up space in my collection. What do you do for various items?
  11. Hello everyone, I just wanted to reach out and introduce myself here since I've been asked by some of the Amiga owners I have done services for about other systems as well. My Name is Paul Rezendes, and if you follow the Amiga scene you may know me fairly well. I do a lot of upgrades and repair work in my free time on classic systems, consoles, vintage home audio gear at times and several other projects. I am located in the USA in S. California. I haven't added much to my web site about non-Amiga related items just yet, but I do them quite often by word of mouth. If you're interested in getting recaps done on any of your machines please feel free to ask. The only catch is it may take some time to complete due to the nature of my full-time job. I work as an Engineering Tech and travel quite a bit, so this is done on my spare time. I usually get recaps back fast, but repairs can take quite a bit of time to diagnose and return. Just please be understanding of that and I can take good care of you. Here are some examples of some recent work I have done and some of the prices I charge. I've heard I am very reasonable in prices asked. My web site is located at http://www.acill.com(Its a work in progress and I hate the Shopify service so it may close and change soon) Typical cost for a recap on the A600 and A1200 is $58 and the A4000 is $68. I use Panasonic Hybrid caps only and this adds to the cost. I have done some for less when the owner insists on sending a cap kit from Amikit. In that case it usually is about $38. Replacing simm sockets is $25 each which includes the new socket. Battery circuit repairs on A4000 can run from $120 and up depending on the work involved. CD32 recaps using hybrid caps is about $80 depending on current price of the caps. This is because of the high nimber required. 12. I recently bought an upright arcade machine and I am working on selling off a bunch of excess stuff so that I can buy the parts I need. Please check out my auctions here... eBay Seller: bluec300 Thank you and I will be listing more video game and arcade stuff soon!
  13. I've noticed newer TV's having less and less RCA and Component inputs, also S-Video is well gone and buried. I've also noticed people increasingly having issues with newer TV's and classic consoles where the AV input will keep popping up on screen or other bugs/glitches because of the old tech/new TV. Obviously we can always seek out older tube TV's and early era flat screens, but can we expect that in 5-20 years a TV won't be able to play a 2600, NES or Genesis? Will this make classic gaming inaccessible to most who don't have the time/resources/space to seek out and set up in a special area a "retro gaming" TV? What are your thoughts on this issue?
  14. I've listed a bunch of Lynx and 7800 games fulfilled by Amazon Canada, search or click through them here: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aag/main/ref=olp_merch_name_2?seller=ASVVEHBRLZEPV I didn't spend a lot of time setting prices, feel free to make me an offer on here if I've overpriced something and I'll reduce it on the site. I listed them here because I need to get rid of a whole load of stuff and I shipped it all to Amazon in a single box for CAD$10 - packing up and calculating the shipping for 60+ individual boxes is just too much effort for me. Also shipping is cheap (or free if you have Prime or order enough) within Canada, and hopefully shouldn't be too bad from the US either.

  17. Hey gang!! I searched the forums to see if this thread has been discussed previously, but don't see anything. Which console in your collection do you enjoy the most? Your most favored? Or prized possession? For me. I have to go with the Sharp Twin Famicom. I bought it a few years ago. It was released in 1986 by Sharp Electronics in Japan as a two in one system and licensed ny Nintendo. It plays Nintendo Famicom carts and by sliding a switch underneath you can play Nintendo Famicom Disk System games. It works excellent and plays flawessley. I only have a few disk system games. Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels), Doki Doki Panic, and Moero Twin Bee. Overall it is a fun and unique system. I always wanted one of these puppies and so happy to own one. What are your favorites everyone? :-)
