Music City Multi Con is Nashville's largest annual Gaming, Comic, Cosplay, and Pop Culture Convention. The three day event is taking place October 29-31, 2021 in the 79,000 sq ft Farm Bureau Expo Center in Lebanon, TN. Music City Multi Con is the expansion of the Grand Ole Gameroom Expo that ran from 2016-2019. The Grand Ole Gameroom Expo became the largest gaming event in Tennessee, and with the new venue we have expanded the show to be a full multi-fandom convention with over half of the convention still dedicated to arcade, pinball, retro gaming, and modern game consoles. We have added over 20,000 sq ft of vendors, artists, multiple panel rooms, table top gaming, cosplay contests, and game tournaments. I haven't posted about VGS 2020 since we announced it back in march, because everything was being put on hold due to Pandemic. Well here's some Bad news and some Good news in regards to the show. Bad news: Due to Pandemic, VGS 2020 at the Odeum has been canceled. Good News: in it place we are happy to announce our first virtual show being held on Facebook Live (at the Video Game summit facebook page) and on Zoom Meetings. on July 11th from 11am till 4pm and July 12th noon till 5pm. Zoom will feature Vendors and Guest in break out rooms witha time table for Vendors and Guest to be featured on the main stream thats shown on facebook live. for more check out our website http://videogamesummit.net

Fest 99/4ATX will be Friday-Sunday Aug 9-11, 2019 in Austin, TX. UPDATE: please use this Google Form to register yourself. We need to know how many folks want food! All are welcome. The main activity will be sharing what we know about the TI-99/4A computer, demonstrating projects and new products, and so on. Fixing broken 4As, soldering kits, and programming are all likely to happen. It really depends on what you want to do! The venue will be an air-conditioned classroom, with tables, whiteboard, and two large screens, at ATX Hackerspace on 9700 Dessau Rd. There is a lounge/kitchen/eating area. (There will be guided tours of members-only areas like electronics lab, laser cutter and 3D printing.) If anyone wants to do a presentation/stream, you would write that on the Google sheets schedule. Outside of the agenda, we will share about things TI, much like Chi-Friday. Set up your gear, gather in small groups, share, learn, fix things. The only charge will be $10 for official registration, which includes a raffle ticket, badge, snacks and drinks. Otherwise it is open for casual observers (I would expect others from the hackerspace and the local C-64 group.) For Saturday food, we are putting together a group order for Cheko's breakfast tacos (a few dollars) and County Line BBQ ($15 each person). Details: Venue: ATX Hackerspace on 9700 Dessau Rd. Has air conditioned classroom, a lounge/kitchen, and wi-fi. Guided tours of electronics/laser/shop/3D printing. Format: BarCamp style. Attendees can announce a presentation in the classroom, otherwise free form. Security: we can put gear in a locked room overnight. The building is keyed entry. The classroom has doors but does not lock. Hardware: I can provide stock P-Boxes, 4A consoles, monitors so you can travel lighter. Electronics lab available. I'm not sure how well known Free Play Orlando is in the retro game community, but they have an event coming up in November that I'm thinking of attending. Since I live about 10-15 minutes away, it might be worth $25/$30 + $5 parking to check it out for 1 day. Attending as a vendor isn't all that expensive ($175 for an 8-foot table + internet + power outlet + 2 weekend passes). It might be fun to set up an upgraded ColecoVision Flashback unit as well as a Coleco ADAM or ColecoVision + Super Game Module and show off some of the newer releases. The next RetroGameCon date was announced - Saturday, November 14. This year's event will be held at the NY State Fair in the Center of Progress building. Which means bigger event with more vendors, more activities, and more tournaments. This year they're adding an Artist Alley, and still have a number of panels. Hey Gang, ZAPCON is back! It's going down April 12-13th once again at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel. Tons of games set to free-play! Films! Seminars! Tournaments! Vendors! It's mostly the same deal as last year: Bring a game, get a weekend pass. Bring 2 games, get 2 weekend passes, etc. Game contributors also get in an hour early, and get an exclusive badge that non-contributors will be envious of. If you're interested in bringing games PM me your real name, phone number, and what (fully functional) pins or arcade games you'd like to bring. Unfortunately due to budget constraints we will not be doing game pick-ups this year. I am, however going to facilitate people going in 2-3 ways on rental trucks or carpooling. Send me your name, phone number and what part of town you're in, and I'll try to connect you with like minded people in your area. There is no southeast retro gaming convention that I know about. Have I missed one? Is anyone near the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area? Or even with a few hours of this area that are interested in starting one? I can help organize it. I have personally never been to a gaming convention. So experienced people would help. I've attended comic conventions before. Anyone?

On September 21, 2013 video game collectors and enthusiasts from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and even further will travel together to the Spirit Bank Event Center in Tulsa to celebrate the history, hobby, collecting, and entertainment of the video gaming industry. “Before the OVGE, people from the surrounding states had to travel across the country for events such as this,” said Jesse Hardesty, founder and organizer of the OVGE. "And since the OVGE first began back in September of 2003, we have inspired many other retro conventions in the surrounding areas." In 1972, the release of the Odyssey by Magnavox, the first multi-video game system for the home was a new technological curiosity. Seven years later in 1977, Atari released the 2600VCS and both created and changed home entertainment forever and the beginning of a new industry! Then, in the year of 1983 an overflow of poor games and even poorer sales resulted in the great crash of the video game industry. A crash that wouldn't heal until 1985, with the introduction of the Nintendo Entertainment System, video game sales and popularity have flourished ever since! Still, many video game players find themselves returning to classic video games. With the advanced high definition graphics and motion control of today’s video games, why are so many people fascinated with the classics? “Even though modern game systems have amazing graphics and sound, the most important aspect of any video game is that it actually be fun to play. Because classic game systems, like the Atari 2600, had very simple graphics, game designers had to focus on the game-play. Those same games that were fun in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s are still just as much fun today,” stated Albert Yarusso, modern video game programmer and co-founder of AtariAge.com. It is this simple pick up and play philosophy that makes for quick gaming and is a philosophy still active today with the rise of mobile games and powerful portable handheld gaming systems. "With video gaming being today’s main form of home entertainment, the history behind it should not be forgotten,” said Hardesty. “The Oklahoma Video Game Exhibition provides today's youth and their parents a chance to visit and interact with that past." I represent a group that is seriously looking into putting together a California Extreme style (though smaller) arcade & pinball convention in Phoenix, AZ. We already host an annual con (KoL Con) and we've been consulting with Dann Frank, one of the administrators of the Wild West Pinball Convention that took place back in the 90s, so we've got the chops to make this happen. Right now we're putting out feelers to see who'd be interested in attending, but more importantly who'd be willing to put up some of their pinball and/or arcade games for a weekend.
