This is probably the best documentary on the Amiga that I've ever seen (and I've seen quite a few). I only know a tiny bit of German, but even if you don't understand it, you can get the gist of things pretty easily. Plus, I think most of us know the main plot points in this story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuAsF245G4Y&t=1s

Facebook | YouTube | Twitter AtariAge, here's a feature-length documentary in the works covering the subject of the transition from physical media to a digital marketplace. Its focused around local video game shops and collectors. Here's the thesis: Some of the places we've visited: The Library of Congress Game Zone in Salem, MA eStarland in Chantilly, VA Control Freak Video Games in Pigeon Forge, TN Arch City Gaming Company in St. Louis, MO Classic Game Junkie in Glenside, PA Iceman Video Games in Toronto, ON Robot City Games in Binghamton, NY Lost Ark Video Games in Greensboro, NC Digital Press Video Games in Clifton, NJ Thrillhouse Games in Tulsa, OK We currently have about a year to go with our production and a year under our belt as of today. You can see an overview of the story behind the movie in the campaign video if you're interested. Here's a clip from Digital Press Video Games in Clifton, New Jersey if you want a quicker look. The film will dive into internet accessibility in rural areas, the benefits of buying retail or going digital, and the history behind starting these stores. We're talking with game developers and physical media manufacturers, too. I've seen this subject come up countless time on Gaf, on how the march forward into digital distribution has plenty of hurdles left for consumers and publishers to jump. Needless to say, my discussions here over the years have influenced the film. I hope you dig the idea. We're aiming to have a rough cut in early 2018.

CBC TV have recently launched a documentary series "The Artists is the story of the creators that were at the forefront of the early video game revolution. It explores the first three decades of video game history." It may only be available in Canada, but maybe worth a try in the US. Someone tried it unsuccessfully in the UK. https://watch.cbc.ca/season/the-artists/season-1/6ec08750-b8fd-4841-9d62-5d05760af9be

Hello, on kickstarter there is our new documentary and this time it's about Atari. I'm sure you can be really interested! This is a short description: "Before Google, Yahoo and even Apple, before the Silicon Valley cliché of informal dress code, skateboards running the corridors and wild creativity became commonplace, one company embodied the digital economy lifestyle and business style: the one firm coming out of the Age of Aquarius was Atari. The story of Atari is two-thirds the story of Nolan Bushnell, founder and visionary, and one-third the first and probably biggest boom and bust of the new economy some 20 years before the new economy even existed. Atari was showing that technology is cool, way before the personal computer revolution took place and they were reaching out to an ever-growing audience with something that is still cool today: video games. Atari literally introduced the digital world to the mass consciousness. Nolan Bushnell and Atari have a huge collection of firsts: the first successful video game company, the first coin-op video game ever, the first general purpose console to win the market, the first marriage between video games and movie industry in the history of entertainment, the fastest growing company in history, the biggest industry crash ever, the weirdest anecdotes in Silicon Valley, the coolest brand on the planet… Atari is a story to be told for two main reasons: it is pure fun and it is impressively educational." You can read a full description of this project on the kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1744798558/easy-to-learn-hard-to-master-the-fate-of-atari Thanks! Bruno

Atari: Game Over (film documentary)... ...what a great/awesome film! After trying to watch it for free via the Xbox Video website (after downloading and installing the latest bloatware version of Microsoft Silverlight, which it demanded I have in order to watch the video), the video never played back and seemed to be in buffer mode/black screen infinitely.....I finally gave up and just paid the $17.99 Canadian dollars to Apple's iTunes for the high def version to download and install on my MacBook, and it played back perfectly (thank you Apple iTunes and screw you MIcrosoft Xbox Video website/Microsoft Silverlight extension). Anyways, the film documentary was superb! So thank you Xbox Originals...I will now be deleting that Silverlight junk off my MacBook's harddrive.

The poster for the upcoming Gameplay: The Story of the Videogame Revolution documentary film is now ready, and shown below. When the Website is ready, I'll post again, and also once distribution details for this year are finalized. The film, which is based on the Vintage Games series of books by me and Matt Barton (we're also writers and producers on the film), covers the history of videogames from the perspective of those who made it happen. Those interviewed include Nolan Bushnell, John Romero, Todd Howard, Daniel Murray, Darion Lowenstein, Eric Lindstrom, David Crane, and many, many more. The narrator is Cain Devore. The film also has a Facebook and Google+ presence, although Armchair Arcade is still a great place to find out new details (in fact, here's the same thing as a blog post there so you can see the PDF).

Long story short -- I usually do a DVD sale to help us cover our bills. This year, we need to do some show infrastructure improvements (more Doc Ock power!!), and we've already spent all the proceeds from this year's show! These are all US prices including shipping. Email me if you're international for a quote. This is a 'while supplies last' sale, or until I decide to cut it off. Most of these prices are near wholesale prices, and if you pick 6 or more, some of them will be BELOW wholesale prices... Pick 1 - $16 per item Pick 2 - $14 / item ($28) Pick 3 - $13 / item ($39) Pick 4 - $12 / item ($48) Pick 5 - $11 / item ($55) Pick 6+ - $10 / item Here are the items with short descriptions if necessary: - Tilt: The Battle to Save Pinball double DVD set - Pinball 101 (VERY few left!) - The Pinball Collector (few left) - Star Worlds: Pocket Full of Tokens and I'm Heading to the Arcade Documentary DVD (it's a short film, about 30 minutes, but REALLY well done about this great arcade in DeKalb, IL and even features some footage from the MGC! Oddly, the video quality seems low res, although that may be because I was playing it through my super huge TV. I was surprised by how much I loved it though.) - Once Upon Atari (four 30ish minute documentaries about what it was like to work at Atari during the day. Note - if you get this it may delay your order slightly, as I need to figure out where they went still...) - MGC "Tetris" ringer shirt (these are white with either blue or black rings) - MGC "2600" shirt (Has Midwest Gaming Classic on the front in 2600 cart logo, back looks like a cart with controllers and stuff on it) - MGC "Pinball" shirt (Has Midwest Gaming Classic on front with pop bumpers and flippers, pin layout on the back with "It's more fun to compete at the MGC" on it.) If you're interested, you may add this to your order too: Nintendo DS import - Crystal Mines. Long story short, a few years ago I made some levels for an Atari Lynx game called Crystal Mines II. I found out at this year's MGC that a company from Australia had licensed the Lynx game, updated it and put it out on the Nintendo DS. I LOVE the game, and picked up just a few to stock in my online store (the GOAT Store). It's really hard to get a hold of, and I love it -- I played through the copy I bought myself, and I would guess it was at least 25 hours of great puzzler gameplay! If you'd like to add one of these, I can do it for $40 shipped (usually $40 before shipping). It's VERY hard to get this! For any shirts, please indicate sizing. Because I have some of this stuff both here and in storage, it may take me a little while to complete all orders. (I'll try to get pics of the shirts sooner than later.) Also, anyone who orders, I will include both a free copy of the Dreamcast game Feet of Fury that we produced and was released at our 2003 show, as well as a free Twin Galaxies Midwest Gaming Classic trading card while supplies last! PayPal is easiest, although I'd love to get checks or money orders too, and can set up credit card if anyone needs it. Please either PM me or email me if you would like to order anything, and we can set it up! I and the future of the MGC thanks you!
