MANIC MINER and BEST PORTS! TOURNAMENT ROUND! OK I need a catchy name for this round We'll cover 1 game from each system that has a port to the Atari 8 bit. I've picked some big games so this round will be nearly 4 weeks giving time to play. Play as many (hooray) or few (boo) as you wish! Round NOW ends *SUNDAY 29th May* 12PM UK time! Scoring 1 HSC point per player per game; so if 5 players play a game the top score will get 5pts. Bonus points and challenges may appear too so check this post. This is a big chance to climb the HSC current standings! EVERYONE welcome to play, there are some great games here, including some new ones which never seem to win the polls and several not played in the HSC before, including one of my all time favourites Bug Attack! HERE ARE TWO DISK IMAGES WITH ALL THE GAMES ON: HSC13 R8 Ports and New Games - Disk 1.atr HSC13 R8 Ports and New Games - Disk 2.atr Late breaking Atari news Manic Miner has been released so we'll add it to this round! (ATR/XEX). NTSC version being worked on. Bug Attack (Apple II) Fantasic Centipede style game I didn't realise it was a port until I researched this round. Released by Cavalier Computer in 1982. Info. Perplexity (BBC) One of the best ports from recent times, thanks to Fandal It's 3d Pac-Man just in case you were wondering! Info. Level codes can be used. Scoring 1pt for each level completed, max 10 for top 3 players. Frisky Tom (5200) When I found this one at first I thought "too hard" but after you learn to avoid the falling thing it's a surprisingly good single screen game. Thanks to Mike "homesoft" Langer Originally a Nichibutsu coin-op. Info. Score not shown at end of go. You need to collect/catch the blocks dislodged by the mice and climb up an press fire to fix the pipes, keep as much flowing as you can until the level ends.... then it's Hello Nurse! The orange mice can be knocked off but the red ones kill you and later start kamikazeing on you so lure them and get out of the way fast. Movement is a bit tardy but the game is very good once you get engrossed. Watch out for them lighting the fuse on the left side - you can wrap round the screen to get to it quickly. Deathchase XE (Spectrum) Motorbikes Ready? Joystick Ready! Charles Bronson Ready?! One day we will get an update of this Let's see if we can complete the 8? levels. Port by XXL Info. ATR on link but have found an XEX ver. r Bobby Bearing (C64) Balls! Marble madness style game. Please play and give the guys some much needed feedback. By Mariuszw, Jose Pereira & Poison in 2016 Supports stereo! No scoring but I think you are trying to re-unite your balls (ouch!) if you do you will score 2 points for each one. Crash 31 Instructions & Review 94% - plus4world Map - Atari Release Info - Interview with Marius. Galaga (Commodore PET) We played it before but it's just so darn good. [Option] to change colours. Ported by Norbert Kehrer. 2013. Info. Parsec XL (TI99/4A) I don't even know what this is! Ok I have a small clue from the screenshot below! This may be the bad one in the bunch! Info. It's not bad, movement is though! Pressing Select chooses lift 1-3 (during the game) but I can't see what this does. Update: If you limit your horizontal movement the game is quite playable, if you clear the first round (approx.10 waves) the background on the panel changs from red to purple. There was a refuelling tunnel but I crashed thinking you had to land on the flat bit so don't do that!! Spectipede (Commodore Plus 4) Another one we played before - there is a no dots version which is easier on the eye, thanks to Xuel. Info in game. Very playable game ported by Gary "rybags" Ryan in 2010. Metagalactic Llamas: Battle at the Edge of Time (Vic 20) A Jeff Minter classic. Sorry it's PAL only so NTSC guys will need to use emulation or play another port of their choosing. Ported by Sal Esquivel, Mario Krix, Karolj Nadj, Michal Szpilowski. 2008. M.Lamas Info.txt Probably don't need this as full instructions are in game, pull down on stick to page through them, scoring and hints are on the last 2 pages. Stampede (2600) Last but not least is Avery Lee's recent port of the classic cattle round-up game! Play on default skill 1. Instructions. Have Fun, let me know if you need any help. Regular single game HSC action will return after this round!

If you missed round 1 you can post a late score and join in here Funny I thought Super Pac-Man was a shoe in for round 2 but Zybex dominated the poll! Zybex Best budget game ever. Horizontal shooter, not too hard, 16 stages and you can pick which order you do them (after stage 1) completable too, in two weeks? We'll see. You automatically fire, pressing Fire changes weapons. Hints: Some stages have extra men to collect so when you have found those you can then do them early on! The waves only appear after the last one is cleared (including bonus icons) so use this to your advantage. Swoop in close to destroy things then get out. Keep moving as you have a better chance of seeing the enemy shots "you never see the one that hits you" [Hey McKong it's not Queen] So the consensus is we stick to two week rounds, but probably want bonus games (sometimes)! Download Zybex from Fandal XEX, he created a stereo version too XEX, I bet that sounds good. Anyone got a stereo Atari? Instructions on atarimania or Post #4 below. Yes the music is fantastic - check this out Post score plus how many stages you complete we'll decide which we use later. HSC record is 172,600 [_Fandal_] Bonus games now, if I asked you to name the last Atari game, alphabetically speaking, you would probably have said Zybex? but no... Zybex 2 XEX by Sergio Boassi (he also created Zybex 3 but we'll save that for another time - forget it it's way too hard!). Again post score and levels completed. Warning this may be difficult! And then also with 3 versions there is Zyclops ATR Use the modified ATR on post #60 with level 4 "fixed" so this will be the other bonus game. Turbo BASIC platformer from KE-Soft. Looks like it's ok on NTSC too. Warning pressing Escape aborts you entire go so press K if you get stuck on a screen and cannot get out (like the one shown below!). Pressing N skips on a screen but we won't be using that! Looks like there are 60 screens I'll post a link to Yoda's web site if I can find it. There is a full 2 weeks for this round, so have fun, if you only want to play the main game then that is fine. I encourage players to post scores as you play, it's more fun that way and of course to comment on the games, good or bad If you need any help just post Round Ends Sunday Feb 14th 11pm UK time Game On Atarians!

Very temping to play both games as the poll was tied, but as ballyalley nearly picked IXION instead of Super Pac-Man, I've selected IXION for the first round. Super Pac-Man and all the other games will go into the next poll as they all got votes. IXION Welcome to Season 13 of the High Score Club, nice to see some new, and some returning players The first game is the fantastic IXION, a game that everyone should enjoy. If your version has corrupted graphics (your gun turret glitches, plus it doesn't turn and fire in all directions) and is missing sounds (how would you know?!) then you need to download the later version: Fandal XEX. Read the comments from the programmer Fred Mack on atarimania. Game Info from the 2600 and from Sega Retro Hints: Collect the letters IXION before the timer runs out to complete a level. Shoot or bump the orange balls around to fill in "heal" the blank tiles so you can move around more easily. There are bonus levels where you need to heal all the tiles. Try and shoot the balls at the start of each level to get them moving, and keep them moving. Learn to let your shots travel as they bounce around the screen, rapid firing is a mistake, and... don't stay still for too long!! When you get the destructive brown balls on, use rapid firing to keep your shots from reaching it (good luck!). You might notice you can fire before moving to stay still or fire after moving to slide along firing. If you don't get all the letters in time you get another (usually) harder version of the same level. Option is pause. Scoring 12pts for 1st place, 1pt for 12th place. Extra scoring places from 4th (9pts) for additional players. Simple Rules: Just play and post a score Bonus challenges (1pt each) - to be played as part of normal goes. #1 highest score on first life #2 NOT for players who have ever won a HSC round: Highest score on first two screens, in 1 man (1 screen and a bonus screen) players must collect all the letters #3 Everyone: Highest Score on first 4 screens, in 1 man (2 screens and 2 bonus screens) players must collect all the letters on both main boards. #4 Set new HSC record [trbb 489,370] Round finishes Sunday 31st January 11pm UK time (We'll try 11pm this season!) If you've not already done so, add 5 games to the Play List. Please don't be put off if the same few players win each round, enjoy the games and you might find a few new favourites for your Atari 8-bit GAME ON! IF YOU MISSED THE START OF THE SEASON JUST JOIN IN ON THE CURRENT ROUND, THERE WILL BE CHANCES TO CATCH UP!

Welcome to the Atari 8-bit Computer's High Score Club Season 11 is here and we're having a few changes to keep things interesting Everyone welcome to play - all you do is vote, play the game and post a score or two. Simple. Screenshots optional. Play on real hardware or emulation. The Beginners Guide has all the details but just ask for any help or send me a message. If you miss [or have missed] the first [any] rounds don't worry just join straight in Usually we play each game over two week periods, often we have a bonus game of dubious quality for those wanting some extra action. We will have a few special rounds and tournaments along the way and some friendly competition of course Please don't be put off if you are near the bottom of the table, there are a few top players who will nearly always win, getting into the top 10 is a good target to aim for. Changes for this season: Each round will feature games from a letter of the alphabet, so for the first round we have games starting with letter A! Voting will feature 7 selections from each letter, you can vote for as many as you like (even all of them!) The top NTSC player each round will earn a bonus point. The vote for the first round will start tomorrow and the action will start at the weekend: I've already pencilled in the first games selection but if you are quick your choice might make it into the vote. Use this post to suggest games for each round as we play, or list an A-Z of games (1 from each letter) that you wish to play. If you suggest more than one with the same letter highlight which is your main suggestions. General suggestions welcome too... [trbb turns on the shredder] [edit] Brace yourselves here is the New Scroring This Season Stilll 12 HSC pts for 1st place but going down in 1s until 12th place. For every extra player there will be an additional high scoring place starting with 5th place 9pts. The top four always get 12,11,10,9 and the bottom place always 1pt; but more points in-between, making it closer overall to stop some of us running away with things! If we have a round with more than one game, each will get place points, these are totalled and used to make an overall table. Ties are decided by total score for both games. [edit] Have fun and see if you can get some friends & family to fire up the Atari too. Hopefully I'll be rounding up a few players over the next couple of weeks trbb

Remember to vote for as many games as you like - otherwise this multi-poll business will not work!!! A tough call with so many great "B" games so I've doubled some up again and added a few of my favourites that you might want to play, so we have *9* yes nine choices. Hopefully there is at least one selection of each player The Brundles is are great but would take too long to play BBSB and BD II are enough to keep players occupied by themselves, but the others should be ok for two weeks, we can always extend things if needed. [Checkout Atarimania for any instructions] 1. Blueprint with Boulders and Bombs as bonus game (B&B needs OS/B or Translator Disk) Blueprint is a nice game; find the pieces take them to the blueprint, easy eh?! apart from the bombs and flower-pot throwing fish guys that is! Not played B&B though but might be interesting... 2. Rawhide: Beef Drop and a Beefy Bonus or two! I had this from last time we played Beef Drop "Note there are two versions - check the title screen shows Feb 2005, the .com file on atarimania is ok". I think there is a newer version still ? Christmas 2012 ver perhaps? [Found It! See Post #2] For a bonus we'll check out the clones and ?! 3. Bounty Bob Strikes Back Awesome 4. Boulderdash II We've played BD "1" so thought "II" should get an airing - we'll probably go for screens completed and make use of the multiple start points for most players, so don't worry about getting stuck. The 25th Anniversary Copy is the same (info here) but has the neat title screen (below), and the XBIOS version (ATR) has a special loading animation [link somewhere on AA!] 5. Splatting: Bug Attack & Bug Off Bug Attack is fantastic 10/10, probably the best game yet to be played in the HSC! If you like Centipede then you'll love this one. Bug Off is a real finger killer but good. 6. Classic Blast I: Blaster & Beam Rider Blaster seems to be awesome but not played it much. Beam Rider quality shooter, gets pretty intense too! 7. Classic Blast II: Bellum & Bandits Bellum great Scramble clone, and you can complete it with a bit of effort. Bandits is surely due a HSC play soon! 8. Beach Head I & II Both arcade games made up of 4 mini games (I think). Quallity action. 9. Bristles with Batty Builders as a bonus game Bristles is another fantasic game, again multiple levels to start on. Batty Builders is tough but fun, catch and stack the blocks; might be too fast on NTSC though?

Bring Your "A" Game Welcome to season 11 First up it's Atari Invaders and AE Links Use Fandal to download the games Atari Invaders (XEX) & AE (2 disk ATR) Use Atarimania for the instructions Atari Invaders & AE, Amusing review of Atari Invaders on Post #37 Settings Play each game on the default level AE will need a disk swap (I can't see a file version of the A8 version just the 5200 port) so emulator users will need to attach Disk 2 when prompted to "Turn The Disk Over" on the title page before pressing fire. [Altirra File Disk Drives D1. Atari800win+4.0 File Attach Disks Drive 1] APE users it works ok (tested on my 130xe) Load Disk 2 to Drive 1 when you get to the menu and leave it mounted (it takes a little while to load between stages) Atari Invaders can be paused with Ctrl-1 Scoring Each game will earn place points these will be totalled and then converted to real HSC points; this will become clear when I do the 1st table Bonuses (1 HSC point each) Atari Invaders: Game 9 (press Option[f4]) highest score only Atari Invaders: Beat HSC record of 57,510 (trbb S7R4) Top NTSC player of each round Join in EVERYONE, have fun and I encourage you to post scores as you go as it keeps things interesting.
