I've been curious about what hardware is actually inside these new carts and been searching for information about them. What I found out from the Official PCB renders posted by @alex_79 and the official blog post is that the Limited Editon carts with LED marquee have a T-shapped PCB and other carts have a normal sized PCB. From the production picture @Mockduck posted, the carts contains: 128K flash chip (SST39SF010A) room for a RAM chip (probably 8K SRAM) Xilinx CPLD (probably XC9536XL) voltage regulator (probably AMS1117 3.3V) Oscilator (probably 50MHz active Oscilator) On the back of the PCB are some configuration jumpers. one to enable or disable the RAM and two more to configure the banswitch mode (probably 4K/8K/16K/32K). The official documentation says "The multi-mapper replaces five variations of three existing mappers" these variations are most likely: 4K ROM 8K ROM 16K ROM 16K ROM with RAM 32K ROM with RAM Since the RAM jumper is not grouped with the bankswitch jumpers, it wouldn't surprise me if RAM could also be enabled with 4K and 8K ROMs. Other interesing things of the PCB is that there is a JTAG header for programming the CPLD. Pin 12 of the cart, which is normally connected to GND has a special function. It is not connected to GND but connected to R1 and then (most likely) to the CPLD. A reason to do something like this is if the cart is programmed through the cart slot. The resistor R1 is a so called pull down resistor as it is connected to GND. They've probably done this for systems that use this pin as a way to detect a cart. Oops! Did they make a mistake? While looking at photos and frames of @swlovinist youtube video to see if I could identify the CPLD partnumber I noticed something odd about resistor R1. The text on the SMD resistor reads 104 meaning it is a 100K resistor. This is a very high value for a pull down resistor. Systems using pin 12 as cart detect will have a pull up resistor connected to this pin so a 'low' pin of the cart can be properly detected. The value of that pull up resistor will usually be from somewhere around 10K (external resistor) to 50K (internal pull up of micro controllor pin). So the 100K resistor on the cart is not able to pull the pin low enough to be detected. I think someone accidently made a mistake with the BOM (Bill Of Materials) list and entered 104 for the resistor instead of 102 (for a 1K resistor) as 104 is a common value used for decoupling capacitors (also on the PCB) ) I think when resistor R1 is replaced with a 1K resistor (102 text on 805 SMD resistor) the cart will be properly detected on troublesome systems. That's all I found out sofar. If anyone has more info or better pictures. PLease post them here! I'm looking forward to get some of the new carts and have a look under the hood myself

Hi, I´ve made some time ago a little project, but haven´t found the time to finish it. The hardware is ready and works fine, but the important thing - the flash utility - is not ready. And without a flashtool this PCB is useless. So I´m looking for somebody who agree to write the flash utility for this little piece of hardware. I´m not the best 6502 coder, and, I need too much time. I have so much other ongoing projects - I would be afraid that this project will never be finished. The special thing about this PCB is that it fits in the genuine brown Atari cartridge shells with metal plate on the back. It can be switched between 8 KB mode and 16 KB mode. Banks are selected by address lines, so an access to $D500-$D57F would select bank 0...127. Any access to $D580-$D5FF switches the cart off. This is the same scheme (for 8 KB) like AtariMax did. So you can use this PCB in two ways: - Flashing a 1 MByte (8 Mbit) AtariMax Workbork Image to it - Flashing one of the several ROM compilations floating around (mostly "63-in-1" called) using the 16 KB mode Write-access can be denied by removing the "WRITE" jumper. For bad flash processes the DISABLE jumper can be set during power-on to prevent the computer from locking while start-up if the flash-ROM content is bad. So the job to do is coding a flash utility for the Hyuandai HY29F800BG flash chip (it´s 1 MByte x 8 selected, this flash can be accessed in 8 or 16 bit). I would prefer a solution doesn´t require a memory expansion, should be possible, because this flashchip is very versatile in programming. Of course I would provide 2-3 fully populated PCBs free or charge and shipping with an example content (flashed before with an external programmer) Anybody interested? Jurgen

Is there a way to get games to save data when using the Atarimax MyIde 2 ? When using the MyIde 2, I noticed that when i play a game which saves high scores, etc, it isn't there the next time i power up and load the game again via MyIde 2. Do programs running on the computer ( in this case i use with 800XL and 130XE machines) have the ability to write data to the SD card in the Myide 2? Thanks! -Eric

I have literally about 3 Jaguar Rom's that I would like flashed to carts (homebrews that have been made available for personal use) not production games or anything piratey. I've been doing a LOT of research and it seems like (flashing EPROM) is something thats going to be a little out of my capability. These are for personal use and never to be re-sold. Hi to everybody, I have coded several Action Script emulators such as Sega SC-3000, Sega Master System, Coleco Vision, MSX1 and some arcade games ( Pengo, Crush Roller, Pac Man, Lady Bug, Solomon's key and Bomb Jack ). I always have wanted to learn more about the TI-99/4a, and maybe to code a special online emulator. Can you suggest me a good doc to read to learn how this computer works? I mean, something that let me go deep in the hardware, which talks about hardware specs, memory map, bios, functions, I/O, everything... Is there something that explains what happens when you turn on the machine with or without a cartridge, or how the memory mapped I/O ports are read or written ? What is the Ti99 Bible ? Thank you.
