  1. You can use the Atari2600 joysticks, if they in the Atari2600 Plus and its connected by its USB-C cable and plugged into the PC(a USB port) and then make sure the Color Switch is on B/W, then Hold Down the Reset switch and then switch the power the on and keep holding it down for 2 to 3 seconds, then if you open Settings(on Windows) and then type `joy` in its search box it will come up with `Set up USB game controllers` and click on that and its box with come up and you see the USB Controller in there under the name `THEGamepad` Because its one controller, both joysticks are one gamepad so you can use one for Analog Port 1 or one for Hat Port 2. So if you wanted to, you use this with Stella on the PC... or any other emulator. That means any DB9 joystick that compatible with the Atari2600 Plus you should be able to use as well. This works the same way as if you added a DB9 connector to THEC64 Joystick, its the same idea, well it was first done on the C64 DTV because no one liked its joystick and wanted to use old DB9(Atari ports) joysticks with its C64 simulator, it was the closes thing to a real C64, made by Jeri Ellsworth, that came out in 2004 so before the Atari Flashback(2005) so its the godfather of the Direct To TV devices like the Atari2600 Plus and exactly 20 years ago, they should make a special C64DTV now, 20th Anniversary Edition, well they do it with Atari all the time... .
  2. I am looking for Atari 5200 joysticks that are not working. No matter the condition. Drop me a line.
  3. Sold I have a crate of various joysticks and paddles, most are OEM Atari, there's a super stick and a gem-stick in there as well. As-is, untested. I will give them an exterior cleaning before shipping out. $20 + Shipping obo EDIT: the cx10 controller is currently being repaired and will most likely be sold separately sorry about that!!
  4. I am interesting in purchasing and/or acquiring non-working 5200 joysticks. I'm getting into repairing them as a hobby. If you have any you'd like to sell or get rid of, please let me know. It doesn't matter their condition.
  5. I figured I'd post this here, as it's more relevant here than in the ColecoVision forums where I normally post: I don't know what knocked Robotron into my brain recently, but something did so I started looking into making a controller for it. I knew there were decent ports of it for the 5200/8-Bit/7800 systems (but unfortunately not the ColecoVision), and as I have an XEGS hooked up, I figured I'd see what I could come up with. I found several pictures of controllers "made" for Robotron: 2084 online, and they of course always feature a twin-stick control scheme. But I didn't come across any, that I felt, really captured the aesthetics and ergonomics of the arcade cabinet, or made use of the proper period-correct hardware. So after a bit of research I ordered a bunch of parts and started working on the artwork while I waited. So here it is, my Robotron: 2084 Edition - VVG Experience Controller. The artwork had to be scaled down from the full-sized arcade CPO to fit on the 20" housing, but what I didn't scale down was the separation/distance between the joysticks. So while cosmetically they are further away from the center map graphic (and closer to the blue vertical striping), they do feature arcade-accurate spacing and are new reproduction WICO 4", 8-way leaf-switch, red ball-knob joysticks, and they are properly installed with the dust washers below the CPO. On the original arcade cabinet the P1/P2 start buttons were on the right side of the CPO within the blue vertical striping, but as this housing is a little smaller than the arcade, if I put them over there, my right hand would be resting on them during game play and I didn't like that idea. So I moved the 2084 logo down a bit and squeezed them into the center of the panel. Obviously these buttons aren't required in Robotron when playing with 2 sticks, but as I liked the looks of the translucent blue pushbuttons, and they help to complete the look I was shooting for, I decided to include them. They are wired as 7800 buttons...so this controller is compatible with all joystick only 2600/8-Bit/7800 games, 1 button 2600/8-Bit/7800 games, and all 2 button 7800 games, using the left stick and 0, 1, or 2 of the pushbuttons. The buttons also illuminate: I know the Atari consoles provide 5V @ 50mA at the controller ports, but since I had already figured out the battery pack & power switch when I built my Mouse Trap controller, I figured I'd just duplicate it. Plus I can illuminate the buttons on display without having to have it hooked up to a console whenever I want. Components used (2) WICO 4", 8-way leaf-switch, red ball-knob joysticks (2) IL concave translucent blue external leaf-switch pushbuttons (2) 5V IL-lumination RGB LEDs (only the blue is wired) Custom 12' cable-set, combined in braided expandable sleeving for the first 11' out of the enclosure, then y-split into (2) 1' sections at the end for connection to the console. Here's a pic for size comparison: Now hopefully with some practice, I won't suck at Robotron: 2084!
  6. I'd like to build an arcade stick for my Genesis - I'd be using it for games like Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Thunderforce IV, etc. Any recommendation on brands for the hardware? I can't think of a reason why the same type of 8-way stick I use for fighting games wouldn't work, but there may or may not be nuances out there of which I'm totally unaware.
  7. I have eight ( 8 ) Atari 5200 joysticks that I am looking to unload. They all have varying degrees of functionality but all are in serious need of a repair job to restore full game functionality. I would prefer to sell all eight together. Figured someone who enjoys repairing and flipping them could be interested in this lot. Was thinking $79.99 with FREE PRIORITY MAIL SHIPPING would be more than fair, given that single untested (read: broken) joysticks often go on eBay for $20 each. Hit me up if you are interested. Thanks!
  8. So I'm sure it sounds amazingly lazy of me, but with the myriad of controllers out there, I hate having to swap them out in the console itself. I thought: man, it would be fantastic if some sort of "hub" existed where multiple controllers could be plugged in and selected via a switch. So ... does anything of the sort even exist for 9-pin controllers like those found on the 2600?
  9. I know there are some pretty talented hardware guys here in the TI forum on Atari Age. I also know there are many ways to accomplish the same task. This made me ponder how, and by which means or methods you guys would take towards creating a wireless joystick. 1) Would you design & create your own interfacing methods? 2) Would you use pre-existing off the shelf components? Basic Questions.... A) Is there something 'out there' that could be modified to work as a receiver dongle for the joystick port? B) Anything small enough to fit in a joystick as the transmitter with the battery? C) What pre-existing joystick would consider using? As I've been focusing on my modernized and updated small footprint system, I'm thinking of other ways to pack more punch into the limited space?
  10. With all these new games coming out for the TI, it's time to retire the 'Hand Buster's', (the original TI joysticks). I was going to make my own, but realized I just don't have the time. Anyway this Wico joystick looks good so far.... ... or is there something better and longer lasting out there that you can recommend?
  11. 1 2 3 4 I snagged up a box of controllers since I wanted another set of paddles but it came with a bunch more controllers so I thought I would offer them up here. There are 4 of them. Pay what you want plus shipping and I will send them. I don't have a number in mind on any of them since they are in various states of condition. I will post pictures later since I would like to take them apart and check innards as well. The one with no rubber topper has some stress wear on the plastic ring but none of them have loose bits or failed to work.
  12. Hey guys, thought I'd show you some flight yokes, gamepads, and a very unique way to play 5200 Q-bert (along with a number of other great games). Here you go: All of this would not be possible without bohoki's PC Gameport to 5200 adapter and the Masterplay Clone of atariguy1021. Thanks much for making the world of Atari a brave new world that's very much worth exploring with a good assortment of controllers
  13. Howdy all, I'm in the market for a replacement joystick (or two) because the two I have are borked in two different ways. The first is a Sears Video Arcade II controller, and from what I've gathered, its unresponsiveness is endemic to the model. The buttons only work about two-thirds of the time. My other joystick, which I love except for its glaring flaw, is the Atari Power Stick, a handy little number that's comfortable, ergonomic...and for whatever reason, can't input diagonal directions. My local game shop has a few different options for ~$13 each. I have heard great things about WICO joysticks, and they've got a few in stock: This one, which I recall as being the comfiest. This one, "The Plug", which uses the same base as the last one but lacks the stick-button. And this one, which had a good physical feel but the joystick seemed excessively slick. They also have some standard Atari joysticks, but I have to confess: I can't hold one of those for more than five minutes before my hand cramps up. Who thought a cube would be comfy to hold in your hand like that? With the controllers I currently have, playing, say, Berserk is a nightmare, because I'm either limiting myself to the cardinal directions, or gambling every time I want to fire. What should I look out for so that I can take on Evil Otto like god intended? My local shop is run by cool people, so they would probably be open to letting me bring my console in and test each stick firsthand, not only so I can see which one I like, but also so I don't end up with another Malfunctioning Eddie. I imagine it doesn't matter to much which one I get, but what are you guys' favorite non-standard joysticks? Any other recommendations I could consider? Part of me wants to get a Sega Genesis controller, since those are evidently compatible with the 2600, but the purist in me says that if it's old school Atari, it's gotta be a joystick, not a D-pad. I'm also wondering if any of you guys have any experience with the Space Age controller, which kind of had a trigger-like design. Looks comfy, but I figure I'd ask you guys if it's any good.
  14. I have a bunch of broken Atari 2600 joysticks and paddles. Rather than waste time + money fixing them when I already have many working ones, I want to find creative and easy ways to repurpose them. So far I am using 1 joystick as a door stop, and 2 as book ends. I really need an idea on what to do with the 2 broken paddles I have. I can't use them as door handles, anybody got any thoughts?

  16. Hello, I just have a simple question about terminology related to arcade machines. What is the "art" on the flat or slightly slanted part of a typical machine that contains the buttons and joystick(s) called? Not the side art or marquee, but the part with a simple design that fits around the buttons. Thanks!
  17. tl;dr: Play games (from 20th-century systems) and post your times! Once more we've reached a new year, and with that it's time to move from the old thread to the new. We're now in the eighth season of our gameplay tracker, and still going strong, but new members are always welcome: the more the merrier, quite literally! So what is this? The basic idea is to post what games you played during each week, and for how long. You don't have to time it down to the minute (though some of us do), and estimates are acceptable. Then, at the end of the week, the statskeeper (that's me) totals everything up and we find out which games and platforms are seeing the most action. Each week, we have top 10 lists for consoles/computers and for individual games. We also have a separate top 10 list for games released on platforms that predate the US release of the NES (i.e. roughly the tail end of 1985). That way, arcade-style vintage gaming doesn't get totally lost in the shuffle of RPGs, collectathons, and other games that take 10+ hours to complete. However, in 2014 the #1 game by a mile (and for the fifth year in a row) was Kaboom, the quintessential old-school VCS game, so the old consoles (and computers!) are more than holding their own. Guidelines: 1. Be sure to list the system, the name of the game, and the length of time you play. Please note if the game has any alternate titles by which it's better known (i.e. Air Sea Battle vs. Target Fun). If you list multiple games, please group them by system. If you play on a backwards-compatible system, e.g. Atari 2600 games on the 7800 or SMS games on the Genesis, the game should be listed under the older platform's name. 2. Each week runs Monday through Sunday (at midnight), except the first and last week of the year. The deadline for posting stats is now 3:00 PM (EST) on Monday to allow for different time zones. 3. Playing on actual vintage hardware is preferred, although emulators are certainly allowed. In some cases (homebrews in development, rare arcade games) there's no alternative to using an emulator. 4. Our cutoff year is 2000. That is, eligible consoles and computers have to have been released (in the US) before 2000. This includes Dreamcast and N64, but excludes the most recent systems like PlayStation 2, XBox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, et al. You're welcome to mention gameplay on those systems, but as of now they won't be added to the tracker. The same goes for computers: we count Windows 95 and 98 games, but not XP; Mac OS 9, but not OS X; and so on. 5. Arcade games up to A.D. 2000 are permitted. So are emulated compilations of arcade games for modern systems, as long as they're not rewritten or otherwise massively "updated" versions. If you play 45 minutes of Robotron via Midway Arcade Treasures for the XBox, those 45 minutes are counted towards the arcade game. When you're playing arcade compilations, be sure to list each game separately (don't just put "Midway Arcade Treasures - 45 min.") 6. You don't just have to post a bare list of times -- comments, stories, gripes, and helpful hints are always encouraged! If you're struggling with a level, got a new high score, or have some thoughts about what's great or what stinks about a particular game...well, that's the kind of stuff that makes this fun to read. How to make the statskeeper's life easier: - If you post a big list of games, please consider alphabetizing them first (after grouping them by platform). - Posting your times in minutes, rather than hours + minutes, makes things a little simpler. - Even if you don't know the exact time, it's better to post a specific number and say it's an estimate. If you say you posted a bunch of games for "between 20 minutes and an hour", I'll just average everything out to 40 minutes, but it'd be better to have a sense of which games you played more and which ones you played less. - If there's room for confusion or ambiguity, please address that in advance so I don't have to research it myself. Non-US releases, homebrews in progress, alternate titles, and expanded re-releases can get especially tricky. That about covers it. I've just posted the summary for 2014 (starting here), including the all-time top games, so those who like stats are welcome to check that out. One more thought: If you haven't participated before, or if you did and got busy with other things, consider taking part in 2015! You may find that it has some interesting side effects -- I've found that keeping a log dramatically changes how I think about my own gaming, and mostly for the better. P.S. Past years of the tracker: 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014
  18. Looking for two new old stock Atari CX-40 joysticks in the common, text-only "Replacement Part No. CX-40" Warner-era box. I need a pair of Atari-brand sticks in unused, like-new condition (stiff, not yet "broken in"). The quality of the boxes' condition isn't critical, but I'd like to have them included. Please PM me with an offer if you have some you're interested in selling. Thanks in advance.
  19. Looking to buy 2 or 3 joysticks in very good working condition for the 2600. I do not want the new, clicky type of CX-40 that comes with the Flashback consoles. I have found these to be much too fragile! Thanks
  20. Recently, I picked up a boxed but incomplete Sears Video Arcade 4-switch. But I need to get a cardboard insert for it. I guess it's the same insert as a regular Atari 2600 4-switch insert? I'm also looking for a box, insert, manual for my Sears Super Video Arcade (Intellivision). If anyone can help me out, it'd be much appreciated. I can do cash via Paypal, or trades.
  21. Hello Everyone! As a few of you already know, I have a massive amount of Atari 2600 games and accessories. I've been looking to sell them off for some time now and I believe it's time for a dedicated thread! So over the next week I'll be listing everything I have in this thread, I am going to organize it by manufacturer and then by variation and I will have separate sections for carts, manuals and boxes. If I have something CIB, I'd be willing to sell the individual parts separately or all together, but will list them separately. I will also have joysticks, paddles, systems and miscellaneous 2600 related items like comics or posters here as well. Numbers in (parenthesis) will indicate how many I have of said item. Anything in [brackets] will be additional information about the item that's not already self-evident and anything in {braces} are additional information unrelated to the [bracketed] information. I will also put cross-outs through items which I'm holding for someone and remove anything that's been sold. I don't really want to get into the extra time of pricing everything so if you're interested in something, post here or pm me and I will respond with High-Res pictures and a price, which would be negotiable as anything is only worth what someone will pay for it. I am also open to trade for just about anything and everything, even non video game stuff. All games are tested and in working condition with top and end labels intact. You can get as many or as few items as you want, even just one. I will ship anywhere, in anyway you want, no matter how big or small an order. As long as you pay the correct shipping. I prefer PayPal gifts so there are no fees, but if that's not possible it will cost a slight bit more to cover the fees, but not much. *THIS LIST IS STARTING SMALL BUT WILL GROW RAPIDLY OVER THE NEXT WEEK AND ONWARDS* *I WILL BUMP THE THREAD AND CHANGE THE DATE IN THE TITLE WHENEVER I ADD THINGS TO THE LIST* Cartridges Atari Text Label 1. 22. Hello guys, I'm looking for a lot of joysticks and/or paddles for Atari 2600, they dont need to be in perfect shape, I can repair them, unless you know they are really useless due to broken cable or stuff like that. To be shipped to Brazil. Thanx
