  1. Hi! I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who's visiting the US for a few weeks. He's looking to pick up at least one of these while he's here: 1) Apple Mac 128K 2) Apple Mac 512K 3) Apple Lisa He's open to any accessories/software that you'd want to bundle with it. Preferably in working condition, but he's able to do minor repairs on his own. He'll be in the Bay Area (California) and can pick up if local otherwise could receive the packages at the hotel or local UPS Store/FedEx Office. Feel free to PM or respond to the thread Thanks! Joe
  2. Hi all, please enjoy my lighthearted review of the Apple Macintosh LCiii vintage computer from 1993 on my YouTube channel , which was kindly donated. RGVX. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZqKeOnzUmo
  3. Hey guys, just putting out a feeler here to see if anybody has a Mac Mini G4(tested, confirmed working) or similarly specced PPC Mac that can run OS 9(hacked installer or otherwise, but not classic mode in OS X) they are willing to part with. The Mac Mini 1.25GHZ/power supply I just got off eBay and that I am in the process of returning due to it not working properly ran me about $50 shipped, so I was hoping for something in that neighborhood. I was really hoping for ~1GHZ or more clockspeed if something other than a Mini, but again, this is intended to be an OS 9 rig and I don't have a ton of wiggle room on the price including shipping so no 2.0GHZ upgraded G4s, sadly. Just as an aside, I wish Apple had made something with the performance of a Mac Mini that had the form factor of an iMac G4(and that could run OS 9, yadda yadda). What a beautiful machine.
  4. I bought a Mac Mini G4 1.25GHZ on eBay, it's in the mail as I type this so I don't have it to hand at the moment, and in the photograph, the top of the case is yellowed like the yellowing you see on beige box computers from back in the 80s and SNES consoles from the 90s, etc. I'm wondering whether or not this is the same process, and if it is, would retrobrite treatment work to restore the white color; can retrobrite even be done on the white part of the top of the Mac Mini case without messing up the rest of the case? Secondly, how difficult is it to overclock the Mini G4 and how stable is it at the various clock speeds(1.5GHZ being the obvious choice)? If I proceed with doing the OC, is there anything I should be concerned about? I've done soldering on an Xbox 360(glitch chip, JTAG) so the size of the resistors and the simplicity of the soldering doesn't really intimidate me, but obviously I don't want to break something if it's extremely sensitive.
  5. Hey guys. I was at my local Habitat for Humanity today doing a bit of thrifting to kill time before work and stumbled onto what I consider to be quite the find, at least for my area. There was a Power Mac G5 1.6 GHZ tower sitting there with no price looking a little worse for wear but otherwise in pretty good condition. The resident tech expert guy and I had a bit of a conversation about the unit and he agreed to test it out and value it so that I could decide if it was something I wanted to grab. On power up, the fan would spin and the single white LED on the front would flash once every five seconds. Being that there wasn't a chime sound, I knew immediately the system wasn't POSTing successfully and explained it to the guy, who thought for a moment and said that he really didn't want to deal with it and offered it to me for $5. Yes, please. A bit of research has led me to suspect the ram as being the culprit. I tried removing and reseating both 128MB sticks, trying them in the various slots, but no change was observed so I ordered a couple replacement sticks to see if they can make it work. I have also read some amount of anecdotal evidence suggesting the early G5s are prone to solder joint failure, particularly on the ram slots which is a bit worrisome. I have limited experience with Macintosh towers. My experience with Macs in general comes from an iMac 600MHZ I used to have as well as a couple of iterations of laptops. I figure the absolute worst case is that I can use the machine for parts if I can't make it work, but I wonder if it's worth swapping the logic board or whether there are any potential pitfalls I should be aware of?
  6. I picked up an Apple Macintosh 512k for Christmas. Though I am not much of an Apple guy, I always wanted one of these in my collection. So I'm trying to find a list of software, not so much for the 128k but for the 512k system. I've done several searches on the world wide web and haven't found a single, easy to read, list. I'm looking for both 1st party and 3rd party software that was available in the time frame that system was being sold. I know, I'm asking for a lot but can anyone help me?
  7. Hi all, I have a new video up showing my adventure as I try to get an Apple ImageWriter II printing with a Macintosh LC II Hope you enjoy! Steve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LQiUcjZayM
  8. So I recently found a lot on craigslist. I've been looking for an apple II to add to my collection and this lot had that and more. After coming to an agreement on price I met with the woman to pick up everything. When I did I was blown away by how much was actually in the lot. She explained to me that she used to work at Apple and, without giving her name and actual title, I will say that she was high up in the education division at apple. She also had a big hand in the EWorld network that apple tried to get off the ground to compete with AOL. So I'm not quite sure if I've got something really good in this lot. Here is just a small list of some of the things in the lot: Apple II+ with monitor and disk drive (all work fine) Apple II GS complete setup with 3.5" and 5.25" disk drives (boots up but have not tested the drives Mac SE setup in an official apple Mac carrying bag (boots up) Hundreds of boxed software titles from games to Office programs to educational tiles. tons of sealed titles Lots of sealed titles labeled DEMO, NOT FOR RESALE, and EVALUATION COPY ONLY (games, educational titles, and office software - inlucded a sealed "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?" labled as a Review Copy) Apple promotional items like pins, bumper stickers, water bottles, mugs still sealed in the packaging Apple computer club shirts Apple eworld shirts Apple Employee convention lanyards Apple Employee Christmas cards and gifts Mission Impossible/Apple cross promotional posters (huge posters) Disks sealed in envelope withe "REVIEW ONLY" stickers on it (Apple system update disks for employees I believe) There were a lot of items labeled as DEMO and such because companies would send her software for her to review for Apple to give the Ok. Much of the copies here are not opened and still sealed. What's really cool to me is that I grew up using an apple II and IIGS at school. Because of her position, the computers she gave me were the ones she personally used to for work. So to think that the computers I just got had a hand in the development and review of the software I used as a kid is just really great. I paid $200 for everything. I'm just not sure if all the demo sealed items (also some not sealed) are anything special or if they are common enough. And I don't know much about the promotional items, whether they are particularly collectible or not. I will upload pictures as well bit by bit. (my computer is giving me issues with this)
  9. Since I pulled it back out to check on it, I wonder what all I can play on my Macintosh Plus 1MB? I got this boxed system years back and due to the lack of software, haven't done anything with it besides make sure it's still alive. It is a straight 1 Meg system with an extra, external disk drive and the system diskettes that came with it. There are diskettes and a reference manual for a Hypercard, but that's about all I know about it. Would really like to do a little more with it since it works so well. Cracking open a Mac is not for me (done it before on Mac Classics that always seem to die), so want to just keep it as is.
  10. New LOT o' Stuff... Update: unearthed more boxes revealing a few similarly sized Performa desktops with internal CD ? Stay tuned for photos and details on them. They are thicker so therefore heavier. Probably won't fit in the same box as the shorter ones. Today we're going back to the halcyon days of Apple I have more than one of many of these; All-one-computers: (Black & White built in monitors) Mac Plus Mac SE Mac Classic Pics of the Mac Classic Booting like its 1990 ? This thing is 16.1 pounds without keyboard or mouse I found a snug box from Amazon that is 14x12.5x9.5 I think snug is better for this . One layer of bubble wrap and a piece of thick foam over the screen should do nicely Keyboard, mouse & whatever I figure out for networking will fit in a separate box This may be a situation where you need a floppy drive that can read and write Mac floppies. I need to research that end of it Small form factor desktops in color output with CD-ROM Capability, internal hard drives with OS7xx or OS8xx: LC (II & III I think) Quadra Performa (various, some with internal CD & Floppy) These small form factor Macs can be shipped in a Regional Rate Type C box For between $8.75 to $18.75 depending on where in the US you are They require monitor adaptors of which I have a few to dole out with these Packages as well as special networking hardware dongles. Some of these have Ethernet . First come, first serve on those. I've posted screen shots of specs for these Macs here Software: 27 (possibly more) "Mac Addict" magazine CD-ROMs These are full of free utils, apps and games along with other stuff Official KINKO's Computer Department Software Install Disks These are the official disks all Technolog Managers (of which I was one) used to do a clean install on our Power Macs that we rented out. Full Adobe, Office & ofher apps for mod to late 90s OS9xx Power Macs Don't ask questions yet until I have a chance to research, test & update. More photos & details will come at any time so if you want to be first In line, subscribe to this thread Photos from last LOT are here in case anyone wants to buy stuff from HyperBoy until he can make his own thread . PM him for details. He will have this stuff in a couple days as it is packed and labeled, & out for pickup from USPS

  13. It's crazy, but that's the point of all of my "Wishing for..." posts. I can imagine taking the Ultimate Flashback concept to the absurd level by placing it inside a Macintosh AIO case (Mac SE, SE/30, Classic, etc) for a truly portable, better-than-Vectrex-like experience. There would be so much space inside the case that there would be room for a super-large battery, so taking the whole thing to the park to play would be possible for an hour or two. What could better on a picnic than playing some Sea Battle? Actually it would be very similar to http://johan.kanflo.com/another-raspberry-pi-powered-macintosh-classic/now that I have done a Bingle search to see if anything similar has been tried...

  15. Hello, I've always been interested in old Mac computers ever since I saw some at my school back in the late '90s/early '00s. I bought a Powerbook 100 some time ago, but didn't have good luck with it, but I want to try again with another Mac. I'm excluding the black and white models because I think the color display Macs have more software and I think I'll stick to the laptop lines for now. Basically, I'll use it for messing around: gaming, creative software along the lines of photoshop, that sort of thing. I don't have any specific software or specs in mind, except for color display and ability to use both floppy and CD (doesn't have to be at the same time, floppy/cd can be separate units). For OS, I'm thinking OS 7-9 since X seems too modern for what I'm picturing and 6 and older is black and white era. Is it a good idea to buy a '90s Mac or should I look elsewhere for my old computer fix? The only old computers I've owned have been PCs. Thanks in advance.
  16. I have a few Atari ST items up for auction on ebay. "Cleaning out the attic". These items were from my own Atari ST setup back in the day. These auctions end today (sorry about the late notice). The most interesting items is probably the Spectre GCR (by Gadgets by Small) hardware Macintosh emulator. Here is the wikipedia page for the Spectre GCR: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectre_GCR You can also find some youtube videos of this device in action. My current Atari ST auctions. Spectre GCR http://www.ebay.com/itm/301850740308 520ST power supply: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301850753109 Power supply for SF354 disk drive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301850759871 (another) Power supply for SF354 disk drive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301850761482 I also have some auctions ending today for some Atari 8-bit stuff. I will be posting up some new auctions for Atari stuff (8bit and ST) soon. Check out my other ebay listings here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/chris82369/m.html
  17. Hello, For years I've always wanted to own an old Apple computer and last month I finally bought one for $25 at the local flea market complete with batteries (which were dead), power supply (tip was cracked), manual, carrying case, floppy drive and floppies (1 OS, 1 system tools, 1 Microsoft Excel). The computer is in nice cosmetic condition, but it has a couple of problems: 1) It doesn't recognize the hard drive 2) It makes this weird buzzing sound on start up before the boot up music starts. I opened it up and didn't see anything wrong on the motherboard (no busted caps, all cables were connected). I didn't open up the monitor. Anyway, the computer doesn't boot to the OS anymore. It did boot to it from the included OS disk, but now it won't even do that. It just gives me an image of a monitor with a question mark. Oh well, I've been dealing with used hardware for years and know that sometimes you buy something that ends up not working. Nothing new to me. At least I got to experience old Mac OS 6 and I quite liked it. The trackball mouse was different, but I liked that too. It came with a sticker sheet that had unused stickers featuring the old, and in my opinion better, Apple logo, so I guess it's not all bad. Still, I wished the Powerbook actually worked. It's now the oldest computer I own. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
  18. I'm selling a bunch of ST games and Atari 8-bit and Mac software on eBay, low starting prices: http://www.ebay.com/sch/alandavies780/m.html - if shipping from here is expensive, I'm happy to ship untracked (at my risk) for people with good feedback or who contact me on AtariAge.
  19. Hi, Looking to get hold of these games in the condition listed if possible please: (also any other unusual Rise related items like Brian May signed photos for example). RISE 1 PC DIRECTOR'S CUT (complete only) RISE 1 Mega Drive (sealed Acclaim blister pack version) RISE 1 US Game Gear version (complete or with manual at least) RISE 2 Saturn (sealed blister pack version) RISE 2 Macintosh (does it exist?) Cheers!
  20. I stumbled across http://www.bigmessowires.com/page/8/ today after someone in my local classic computing mailing list pointed out that he's got a working prototype with custom made boards, instead of just wire-wrapped ones. I know it's been done already, but apparently it hadn't been done for classic Macs, and it's interesting to read about how he's got 800K disk support, but still wants to add 400K and 1.4M support. Not to mention all of the sneakernet that had to be done if you were still doing this without such an emulator! If you start at the link above and work forwards, you can see the whole thing start to finish.
